Respec Trial. As in Respecification (or something along those lines).

Also, you might want to join the global channels "Justice Badges," "Justice for All," and maybe "Chrome Support." Any of those channels might be a good place to recruit for a respec trial or any other trial/task force whenever you want to run them--rather than having to plan so far in advance.

How about deleting some of these olds threads, or letting them die out?

    How about not starting fights?

How about not posting pointless stuff just to PL your post counts?

And how about not ganging up on people?

Anyone with me? It's time for a change.

  4. There have been several holes like this since CoH Beta.

I spent several hours hiding in the trees in Perez Park playing pranks on other players.

Others have found other holes in other maps as well, some would let you "under" the world, some would let you into the Faultline Dam area before Faultline was revamped, and several other places.

There was a rather famous incident with groups trying to fly to the moon from under the world that I believe occurred on Justice, and if not, it was accomplished by several players that made their home on Justice.

So ... really nothing new. Hopefully you filed a bug report from the location so that they can fix the hole.

  6. Odd. I'd have expected a portal opening from *shudder* Virtue *shudder* to have deposited catgurls rather than a puppy.

    Luckily, I like dogs.

Still, it IS from *shudder* Virtue *shudder*.
  7. As others have said, I've been opted in and my email was correct the entire time, but I've stopped receiving newsletters as well.

Yes, I've verified that all of the information was correct and that I was subscribed to the newsletters. All of my email comes in, I've got my SPAM protection set to deliver anything it "thinks" is SPAM to a separate folder. Nothing in there either, and I check it every day or so. I've been checking it every day this week since I didn't get the Going Rogue email. Unless it's an ISP block, in which case NCSoft needs to make sure that the email addresses they are sending from aren't on Blacklists, especially for the large free email providers such as Yahoo, G-Mail, and (ugh) Hotmail.

I do know that the information on the site works since I've received emails from support in response to bug reports and petitions, I've received emails from individuals on the community team as well as phone calls and they explicitly stated that they got the information from my Account Profile.

Seems that the "not getting newsletters" syndrome happens on a fairly regular basis, and has for some time. And eventually, without changing OUR settings, we suddenly start getting them again.

Hopefully, someone will find where the problems are occuring and find out how to resolve it.

I guess we need to get an enlarged image and create an outline image so we can number each of the faces. Then we can post names of the identified people with the number.

As for the Krispy Kreme question someone asked, I think I know who gets them in the morning, but I don't think the donuts last long enough to get inside the building.

  14. That one works Tic.

As a hint to anyone else that follows the link, if you are using Internet Explorer you need to right-click the Download File link and select Save Target As .. In the prompt that comes up, find your City of Heroes installation folder and open the Custom_Critters folder. Save the file into that folder. If you simply left-click the link, it will open the file as a text file in Internet Explorer. You can select all of the text and paste it into Notepad then save it in the Custom_Critters folder under the name Tic_Toc.critter but it's much easier to just right-click and do the Save Target As .. steps.

If you use Firefox, left-click on the Download File link and select Save to Disk and click OK. In the box that pops up, navigate to the Custom_Critters folder and save it.

Both save methods I listed above (not counting the text file in IE) will already have the name as Tic_Toc.critter so you don't have to enter the name.

It's nice that the .critter files are simple text files, since you can view them in any text editor. I prefer Notepad, but WordPad, Word, or any other text editor should work equally well. I know that Notepad won't add any extra characters or try to convert anything to HTML which is why I use it, plus it's part of the default Windows installation.

If you download anyone's file from File Qube, use the steps I listed above and you'll be fine.

This Public Service Announcement was brought to you by the Technical Support Staff for the letters T and J. That's TJ to most of you.

  15. Yah, I got the same error. Wonder if Tic forgot to set the Share options on the files? Since the links for mine both contain a "sh" (shfolder for the shared folder, shared for the file) and Tic's don't, that was the only thing that made sense to me.

That or Tic copied the link to the file instead of getting the Share link to the file.

Dunno, maybe Tic can figure it out and get us a working link.
  16. I've taken a different approach to doing spellchecking and such.

I just run the stories that catch my attention for whatever reason. If I notice spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors, I write them down and and offer the corrections either in feedback or another manner.

For now, most of what I've run has been by friends, but I have run a few from people I don't know and certainly will in the future.

Whether the author takes them as constructive criticism to help polish his story or takes offense doesn't concern me at all. Whether they incorporate any of the changes or not doesn't concern me at all.

Aside from this type of proofreading, my only comments will be along the lines of "really fun", "very nice use of humor", "really creepy" or things along those lines. I doubt that I'll ever put in any negative feedback, as I realize that ego's are a fragile thing. I wouldn't want someone doing that to me, so I won't do it to them. Stories I don't care for likely won't even get 1 starred or 0 starred. I'll just exit the story without rating or feedback.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
This will likely be my only contribution through the Mission Architect, as I don't really consider myself a good story writer. I ramble too much.

Title: A Day with the South Texas Knights.
Arc ID: 42969 (somehow that number seems to make me happy)
    Creator’s Global Name: @Texas Justice

Difficulty Level: It seemed fairly easy to me as a 50, and likely medium on the 15. Then again, the 15 is a pre-ED tank that I seldom play and could really stand to burn a freespec on.

Synopsis – Texas Toast and his pals are tearing up the South Texas Knights SG Base, planting malware on the computers, and destroying pr0n ... er ... data. Yeah ... that's it ... data.
Mission 1 Contains Boss, Ally, Defeat All Enemies.
Mission 2 Contains Boss, Collection, Ally.
Mission 3 Contains Boss (EB), Ally

Number of EB/AVS – 1 EB to fight, 1 EB as an Ally

Story Type – Humor ... strictly for fun.

Mission Count: 3 - all on Medium size Maps.

Estimated Time to Play: I really don't know. I only played it in testing mode with two characters. One was a 50 and one was a 15.

Note – This is purely an ego-stroking arc that will let people team with Texas Justice, Eyes of Texas (non-Hami Raid costume), and other alts of mine while fighting my villains. People comment occaisionally that they never get to team with me except for Hami Raids, Ship Raids, and very rare instances when I'm trying to help someone else level up on a 2XP weekend or during some event. Now you can team with TJ all you want, or don't want as the case may be.

It is intended to be humorous and light-hearted, even though it turned out to be longer than I planned. I also only tested it solo, of course, and have no idea how it will scale with teams.

I'm not doing this for the ratings or feedback, just to indulge myself a bit and play around with the new features.

I hope that you at least have a bit of fun with it.

I know I had fun (and frustration) making it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has been modified slightly. Clarifications made based on feedback, and now only the first mission is a Defeat All. If you played it between the 12th and very early this morning, I appreciate the feedback given and tried to use that to clarify things and improve the arc. And now you get a much better Souvenir.

  18. To get them to Follow you, you actually have to go Rescue them by standing next to them. I guess we are rescuing them from the boredom they endured waiting for us to finally get zoned in.

Also, there is often no way to force the Ally to be the first thing you encounter in the mission.

We just don't have the tools (Yet) for that fine of a control. It's something we may get in the future if they can figure out how to make it available to us, but there are no guarantees.

Also, make sure you are using the Ally section in the Advanced area and not the Rescue section. They will behave differently. I'm not even sure if a Rescue can be set to Single since I've never looked at those settings.
  19. Reorder your mission objectives so that the Boss Fight is the first thing you put in, and set it to Back. This will force a Back spawn point to be used. Then put in the other objectives, keeping in mind that if you have filled all of the Back spawn points, any objective set to Back will then try to find some type of valid spawn point in either Front or Middle.

Also, pay attention to how many of what types of Objectives can be placed where on different maps. And be aware that even though the map window shows the floors as being consecutive numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, etc, the floors are actually placed in a different order due to Elevators etc. So that map may actually be ordered as floors 1, 4, 2, 3 or similar.
  20. Welcome Back.

Nice to know that we don't have to completely break in the new person.
  21. Jill,

It saddens me to lose someone like you, but I do wish you the best in the future.

You've meant a lot to me, both in relation to the game and as a person. Your presence, sense of humor, and especially your patience with some of us will be sorely missed. Even moreso will be the feeling that I have lost a part of my family.

I hope that when HeroCon '09 comes around that you will join us for some of our unofficial gatherings, even if you aren't able to join us for the official gatherings.

There WILL be a bottle of Jager reserved for you again this year, and I hope to be able to share at least one drink with you. If you are there, I will break my abstinence from alcohol to enjoy another drink with you.

If you ever head back to the Austin area, you know that all you need do is let MissInformed, Moggie, me, infallible, or any of the other Austin folks know you'll be around and we'll make plans to get together.

Maybe we can hit Rudy's again and see if we can find a way to smuggle some Sause back with you.

This has put a bit of a damper on my plans for the evening, as I'm again going to be thinking about losing another great Community Rep and someone I'm proud to be able to call a friend. I'm sorry I missed the ITF teamage last night. I'd have loved to have broken my ITF cherry running it with you.

    Fair winds and following seas.
  22. Ok. I'll list a couple of Arcs I've enjoyed, that had some good storytelling, some good humor, some good fights or something that made me enjoy that specific arc.

After that, I'll post a couple of links to places I've been looking at for reviews, commentary, etc. I'm sure many more such links exist as well.

    Where's My Signature Character!
    Arc ID: 4372
Tells a good story and uses humor effectively. Very few Custom Characters that I could tell, but you do see a lot of characters that you've likely encountered throughout your tenure in Paragon City. It's a 4 Mission arc, rated at long, but the first three missions are on small size maps. The dialogue and text are very good. The search box for this mission will give you all the information you need to know if you want to attempt it. Well worth playing IMO.

    To Hell and Back
    Arc ID: 1026
Humorous, and a nice small 3 mission story to just see what kind of fun can be had using the MA. Yeah, it's by one of my favorite people, but he apparently had a lot of fun making it. It gives a nice insight into how creative people can be in areas you didn't even think about them working in.

    The Fall of White Plains
    Arc ID: 2248
Yes, it is a 5 mission arc. Very few custom bosses to fight, but they story ... ah ... this is a very well told story. Even if you haven't read any of the stories this person has written, know nothing of the characters or their backgrounds, you feel as if you know quite a bit of their past at the end of the arc. Part of what makes them heroes. Part of what makes them care so much about Paragon City. Part of the history of Paragon City even. It meshes extremely well with the canon of the game. And such a good story. I'm glad this author is someone I consider a friend in the game, and it makes me treasure them a bit more.

I'd recommend another, but I hear it is going to be revamped soon. It's a very satirical arc, and it may work better if you know the parties involved. Still, I enjoyed it as humor. I may come to enjoy the humor in it even more very Soon™.

Now .. as for places to begin looking for reviews, commentary, or other bits of information to help you find arcs you like.

First off would have to be the official section Mission Architect : Stories and Lore part of the forums. Some very well done reviews by many different posters. After reading through some of the reviews and stuff, I'm sure you'll find some arcs you might like. You also might find some favorite reviewers to follow since they give some really good commentary with the review.

Next would be a thread on the Justice Server forums. Sure, it's mostly about arcs by Justice Players, but since the AE Datastream is cross-server, the server the author plays on isn't that important. This is the Justice Story Arc Discussion thread. I'm sure there is something similar on other servers forums, but I don't go there so can't be certain.

Next is the Justice, Announce Your MA Arcs Here! thread on the Justice Server forums. Again, the AE Datastreams are cross-server so the originating server is irrelevant. Also, I'm reasonably certain that other servers have a similar thread. Especially since this one was started by one of the Justice P.E.R.C. Representatives.

I also like to check the Community Digest for flyers that players have created for their arc. In my estimation, anyone that has put the effort into not only creating an arc but then creating a flyer and sending it to the Community Team to post for them likely takes a bit of pride in what they've created, so it's likely not going to be something that's a total waste of my time. And if it isn't something I enjoy, I'm more likely to remember the person since I'll have the flyer as a reminder. I'll likely consider that what they create isn't a style I enjoy and be more able to avoid it in the future.

Anyway, good hunting in finding arcs you enjoy. More good ones are likely coming out soon, and I'm sure we may have better stories coming as we get more tools available to us and people learn how to hone their use of the MA in expressing their creativity.
