No. It's not double-dipping.

The monthly fee is access to the game and it's built-in content only. That's all.

The Super Boosters are a non-essential add-on. It gets you a few extra frilly's that are nice to have, but not necessary for gameplay.

If you don't like or want what is in the Booster, don't buy it. You aren't missing out on a thing in your game experience. If it's something you want or like, buy it. It won't make your character more Uber than another character. If you want to purchase it to support the company even though it really holds no interest, you can do that as well, and your game experience isn't changed in the slightest.

Double-dipping would be charging us a monthly fee, then charging us again each time we wanted to do something built into the game itself, such as choosing a new power.

That video card is not a good card for gaming. It is fine for running programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar programs.

That being said, there are some settings you may want to tweak down in the Graphics settings in the game. Since you aren't able to load into the game, I'd recommend downloading TweakCoH to allow you to set those values outside the game. I'd recommend starting with all of the settings as low as possible for troubleshooting (or off) and then once you can get in you can start tweaking them slowly upwards one at a time.

Also, download and run HijackThis and post the output here as well. It will allow us to see what else is running in the background.

You may also want to try to load the game in Safe Mode by starting the Updater, clicking Next on the first screen but before clicking I Agree on the second screen put a checkmark in the Safe Mode box. This will load the game with minimal graphics settings, but "should" allow you into the game. If it still won't load, there are other issues going on that the HijackThis log may point out.

Yep, you have an nVidia card and the 186.18 drivers. Known cause of problems.

You can get the 32-bit version of the 185.85 drivers here.

Also, use Windows Update to get Service Pack 2 for Vista.

I know I've seen it reported at least once here in this forum. It's likely been reported in other forums as well.

Make sure you file a /bug report.

Make sure you are using the correct password for the game account. You can have different usernames and passwords for the Game Account and the NCSoft Master Account.

According to the NCSoft Support Site, you should also receive a message that the account has been queued for activation and that once that is completed you will receive an email that the account is activated. Have you received this email?

After creating a new account, trial or regular, it may take a bit for the data to sync between the NCSoft account creation servers and the game servers.

I suppose it could be a firewall issue. Since, most likely, only another game using the Cryptic Engine that CoH uses would use the exact same ports and since no other games use said engine, it's rather difficult to test it by loading another game.

The only thing that really worries me in the CoH Helper is the Unknown on the Anti-Aliasing. Maybe Zloth, houtex, Mateo or one of the other regulars will have an idea of what causes that.

You need to go to the NCSoft support site and file a Support Ticket on the Ask a Question tab so that the NCSoft Support staff can assist you in trying to determine the cause of your problems.

BigBrotherMidas, please use my post above to get the links for CoH Helper and HijackThis and some of our tech gurus may be able to spot something causing the problems.

Being able to connect to other online games indicates nothing other than that you can connect to those games. You can also connect to the forums, but that has no bearing on getting the game to launch correctly.

I would politely ask that the issue be escalated to a Senior GM. They should be able to verify the badges were there by loading a backup of the database if you can give them an approximate time frame when you know you had them.

If they still are unable to help you, try sending a PM to Nivienne or Avatea and ask them if they can assist in any way in gettin it resolved.

Along with not seeing any animations at the Cosmetic Surgeon, drawing my sword or shield seems to put me in a stationary battle stance.

Something else that I'm seeing that I haven't seen mentioned is as follows.

My characters normal body type is the regular Male body type, with the sliders pretty much set to the middle. Playing around with the gender changes I used the Female body type and saw that if I choose the Targe shield, as soon as I select the shield the "avatar" section of the screen flickers rapidly between my character standing straight up and in a battle crouch. It can look rather amusing from some angles if you set the Targe to have Long Spikes.

I don't see this flickering on any other shield choice. I decided to go to a regular Icon employee, chose the same costume slot (without having saved the changes earlier) and did not get this flickering when selecting the Targe shield.

If I instead select the Huge model, I don't get the same flickering between stances with the Targe selected. I didn't see any anomalies with any shields aside from one I'll get to shortly that is shared with the change to Female.

Using the Cosmetic Surgeon, I selected my normal Male body type and left the sliders alone. No anomalies of any kind aside from the lack of animations that have been reported previously by others.

I used backed up and changed the normal Male to the maximum height and looked at the different shields, then did the same with the normal Male set to the minimum height.
I found no anomalies aside from the previously reported lack of animations.

Now, for the one thing I noticed when I changed to the Huge and the Female models, still in the Super Tailor screens. On ALL shields, there is a slight constant wobble of the shield. This "may" be related to the Targe issue on the Female body type, but much less pronounced. When using my normal Male body type there is no wobble of the shields whether I change height or not, so it is apparently "something" related to the body type change, not just a Super Tailor related issue.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

Please do not put the output from CoH Helper or HijackThis inside the Quote tags as it removes the formatting of the output and makes it more difficult to easily see problems.

To the OP:

Keep calling your Cox Internet's Technical Support. Ask to be escalated up a tier if the technician you are speaking to says there isn't anything they can do since it isn't on their end. houtex is right in that Cox Internet can wield a lot of weight in pressuring whoever it is to get the problem fixed.

If they refuse to transfer you to a higher tier, ask for a supervisor, calmly explain the situation and that these are the instructions you've been given by several computer techs and network techs and again ask that you be escalated to a higher tier.

Persistence will pay off, but be sure to stay polite. I know it is difficult at times when you are dealing with people without a clue, which is sadly what most ISP's tier 1 support consists of.

Being Friday morning, my first suspicion would be the normal maintenance cycle. Looking at the server status page it shows all of the Live servers to be cycling between Up and Unknown, so this could be the reason.

Guess I'll have to try out the pingplotter and see if it will run on my ISP's network or if they have it crippled like they do tracert.

I just noticed the NVidia Network Access Manager due to Zombie_Man's post.

Other users have had problems with CoH with that installed. I'd recommend uninstalling it.
