  3. Yes, several are running it successfully on Windows 7.

I'm running it on XP SP3 on one computer, Vista 64-bit on another computer and Windows 7 64-bit using a different drive on that same computer.

All three run fairly smoothly. Also, I can run it on XP on my 7 year old laptop as well. It's not pretty by a long shot, but it's enough to get me by for minor stuff when away from home. The main XP computer is getting rather long in the tooth, and coud stand some upgrades to be able to tweak up the graphics settings, but given the age of the system, it's easier just to use it for backup usage now.

Okay, I have to ask this.

If a fix for the animations was available this quickly, wouldn't it have made more sense to have waited 1 day to release the SuperScience Booster pack without the bugs?

Yeah, I know people have been whining all over the forums that it isn't available yet, when will it be here, etc. But 1 day to have a fix and it gets pushed out buggy anyway?

If it was something that was going to take several days, I "might" be able to understand not waiting, but 1 day? Seriously?

Someone take a pipe wrench and beat the Marketing people over the head repeatedly, please.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe it's simply because the programmer wasn't able to identify the cause of the bug in time. They decided to publish since the bug is VERY minor and doesn't affect gameplay or anything important in itself. Then the programmer realized the bug was a simple fix that he hadn't thought about and quickly fixed it, tested it and it was released the day after.

Being a computer tech I know how a simple ; at the end of a line can be missed 20 times before someone sees it. it's called tunnel vision if I remember well, you see the same code so often that you "assume" something is right and you don't actually see the error until you take a break ( 5 min to a couple hours) and when you come back you find the bug and fix it ..... then you think how stupid you were not to have seen it before.

[/ QUOTE ]Been there, done that, burned the t-shirt! Worse is after you've spent hours going over it, someone else just glances at it and sees the error instantly.

I expect the ones asking why they didn't just wait a day has never worked in a professional programming environment. Or done any complex programming at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, yes, I have a degree in programming that I no longer use. I've done my share of programming. I know the frustration of not finding the reason a particular piece of code is not doing what it should or is doing something much different than it should.

I still do scripting for several things here on our network, mostly vbscripting, but I still have to watch my syntax and all just like in a real programming language.

If it were a case of someone seeing something finally that everyone else had been overlooking, why not have someone pop into one of the threads where Castle and/or BAB has commented already just to say "Hey, we finally spotted the problem and it's going to be a simple fix, but we were too late to make it into the patch going out today". To me, that would have been preferable to giving the attitude that "we'll push it out anyway, they'll pay for it, we'll get that fixed eventually" that some people already seem to think they have. Am I one of those people? Nope. But I see their postings here enough.
  5. Bah, you are correct. I always forget that point when I'm typing it out.
  6. I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

    chat bug

I love how after BAB commented about if you can give steps to reproduce it 100% of the time that the programmers would love you and everyone is crawling out of the woodword with "these will always do it" steps that seldom get the chat bug to happen on my system. One of them even goes so far as to say "this will happen 90% of the time" on their procedure.

Gee, since when is 90%=100% ???

If it were as easy to fix and reproduce as some people seem to think, then I'm sure that between Garth, Graham, Vince and C.W. they'd have figured it out by now and the whining on this particular item would have stopped.
  8. If you want to know if the laptop will handle the game, follow the instructions in the previous post, then post the results from CoH Helper and we can give you a good idea about how it will likely run and possibly some suggestions on improving your game experience on the laptop.
  9. No problems, unless the laptop won't handle the game.

Easiest method is to copy (across a network if possible) the game files from the first computer to the laptop. Create a folder called C:\Games\CoH on the laptop to put the files in. Copy the Updater to the Desktop of the laptop. Launch the Updater, but do NOT accept the default location. Instead, point it to the C:\Games\CoH folder you copied the files to.

    Good to go.
  10. Why would we reply to it? We haven't seen it.

I never use the board's search function. I google it with the qualifier site:boards.cityofheroes.com

Much more accurate and I can make multiple searches all within a few seconds rather than having to wait between searches.

They made an announcement on the forums yesterday.

This is pushing a patch to fix an animation issue on the character select screen and at the tailor. The one that's caused people to create about 150 new threads in the past day.

Calm down, have a cookie. It's just a game.
  14. Pull out the Nemesis staff or Blackwand.

Fire off Enervating Field or any power that uses the two-handed overhead "throw" cast animation.

You wind up with the Nemesis Staff or Blackwand in hand AS you cast EF using an overhand smash. It makes it seem as if EF is coming out of the Nem Staff or Blackwand.

They probably have limited control on when NCSoft turns on the billing for this sort of thing. If the billing was up, people bought the booster, then couldn't access it in-game... Well, that would obviously be bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

NCSoft owns the whole shebang. Why would they not have control of when the billing is turned on?

That's a Marketing thing if someone is saying "It must be released on X date".

We've had plenty of other items that weren't released until they were ready or at least the known bugs weren't going to be such a simple fix as to delay the release by 1 whole day.

Paragon Studios is the "new" name of the NC² offices. If you aren't sure where the NC² came from, it is NCNC or NCSoft NorCal (Northern California). Aside from the name change (and the hiring of more staff) nothing has really changed about who owns what.
  18. Your free space on your drives is rather low. Windows and CoH are both installed on the C: drive and you have a mere 22% free space available for them to use.

That's .... really pushing things in my opinion.

Your RAID drive has even less free space, so there's no moving stuff to that drive to free up space.

I'd burn some things off to CD or DVD if possible to free up space on the C: drive and see if that has any effect at all on how the game runs.

    Game of DOOM

To me, the first part of that looks like the output from Microsofts System Info tool that is in Accessories > System Tools.

But yeah, that memory info looks totally whacked out.

Either a dxdiag or CoH Helper output would be much preferred.

  21. Dust of course is one of the most common sources of heat.

I generally remove fans and heatsinks in order to fully blow out all of the little crevices and such where dust collects.

Also, while the system is running, look at all of the fans, including the GPU fan if there is one. Are they turning freely? Are any seemingly slow to start spinning or have a loping action in one area?

Oddly enough, seized fan bearings are one of the biggest causes of heat-related failure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

512125125You know, there's something just all-around nice about seeing dev hatred for a bug.

    Here's to a successful hunt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only bug I don't hate is the one with using any power that calls the "Smashcast" animation while you have the Nemesis staff in hand.

I've been very slow to 'fix' that particular one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And it IS appreciated that you are being "so" thorough in making sure that you have "every" iteration of this bug squashed in internal testing "before" pushing it to Test or Live servers.
