Quote:I'm not sure YOU understand the usage of the word nerf as it relates to computer role playing games or video games. They're intentionally not using something that would make them more effective. Yeah, they're nerfing themselves, and to say they're not is just being dishonest ( Or showing that you don't know what the term means ). It's like saying a petless MM isn't nerfing himself by not taking pet powers. Yeah, it's possible to play without them and one can even be decently effective...but the difference between having them and not having them is rather dramatic.
Perhaps the term you are looking for is gimp.
I'd still say it's not really gimping a character by using a SO/HO build since the game is designed around SO's and not around IO's. Because of this, it's still an effective and valid build if you aren't IO'd out. It may not be a fully maximized build, but it's still not a gimp build.
If there were a design change that made it so that the difficulty of the game was designed around IO's I'd agree that a SO/HO build was gimped.
As one example, when they first put the Alpha unlock into Beta there were players that were complaining that it was impossible to defeat Trapdoor solo. Most that were complaining were mentioning their IO'd out or even Purple''d out builds. TopDoc and another player (sorry, I've forgotten the name) were asking for specifics about their AT, Primary and Secondary then rolling up characters with that build and outfitting it with only SO's then defeating Trapdoor with that SO only build. In several instances they noted it was the first time they had played a particular powerset that was being used or at times it was a powerset and AT combo that they hadn't played.
I had to agree with TopDoc and others that were arguing that Trapdoor wasn't too difficult to solo since I'd run the mission on an Ill/Emp controller, a DM/Regen Scrapper and a Fire/Dev Blaster using my normal SO/HO builds. I've run it on Live with non-IO'd characters even after the changes to the mission that negated dragging him into the Lava or pulling him out of that chamber.
An SO build is still valid, no matter how much you want to claim it's not.
It's a shame the forums went down this morning at 4:45 AM Central since I was in the middle of typing the above post when it went down. If it hadn't, my reply would have been directly after yours. -
Quote:There are however 2 Trials with a minimum level of 24. The Terra Volta Reactor Trial (Jane Hallaway as the contact) and the Tree of Thorns Respecification Trial (Sparcetriel as the contact).Moonfire's task force has a minimum level of 23. Citadel's and Ernesto Hess's task forces each have a minimum level of 25. There is no task force with a minimum level of 24. Therefore, there is a precedent in the game for skipping 24 and moving straight from 23 to 25.
So there is a precedent for Heroes getting one thing with 24 and Villains getting something similar yet different with 24. -
And as I said in my previous post "it's possible that the GM involved had already been told or had determined that Neo would not be allowed."
Just as several of the Neo named characters I saw generic'd before we got trenchcoats. -
Quote:Their little coffee talk sessions are not official enough to define something as specific as whether 24 will come in-between 23 and 25 or not.
I'm sorry, but you will have to bring forward better evidence if you hope to convince anybody...
So that would make all of the discussions of the changes they've announced as coming in I24 (such as this thread) threads that need better evidence? -
I'd ask Arcanaville to explain it to you but I wouldn't wish the resultant headache on anyone.
-
Since we don't have confirmation yet that we'll get customization in I24 or any additional pools (purchased or free) in I24, it's still only 50%.

Quote:Good luck.Aww, they ended up giving out codes early to make up for the maintenance window.
That aura is something that I want, so I'm going to try and get it even though I hate quickfire reaction exercises for single-use codes like this. Having a promocode active for a timelimit (like what's been suggested elsewhere) might be a better option worth exploring in the future, perhaps.
If the speed of the people claiming the Coralax codes was any indication or the speed at which codes were claimed Wednesday afternoon for the Kirby Dots codes are an indication then I'm fairly sure you'll need all the luck you can get. -
Whether the name Neo was in use on other characters or in the name of the SG doesn't matter. If anything, it could make those characters a target for being generic'd as well.
There have been several characters with Neo in the name that have been generic'd over the years. I've known a few of them although it's been a really long time since I've seen them so can't recall their exact names.
Mostly they were generic'd for one reason. Or for The One reason. Neo.
Since that character was one of the characters used in the little comic strip in the Prima guide when they were talking about originality in characters and names, it's possible that the GM involved had already been told or had determined that Neo would not be allowed.
Many of the ones I know of that were generic'd was before the addition of Trenchcoats. After Trenchcoats were added I know of several more that were generic'd because they tried to copy the look as well.
It's also possible that it was interpreted as being a reference to the fictional race called Neo in the X-Men comics.
Yes, as a prefix neo means new, but that's as a prefix. The way you were using it in the name it isn't a prefix. Now, if you'd named it Neofuhrer it would have fit into the usage you described as still being common in Germany and would have fit the definition of neo as a prefix. -
Quote:Tails as a separate entity from belts. I'm sure those came after capes and auras (Issue 17 was when tails were moved to Lower Body to separate them from Belts, Capes and Auras were added in Issue 2).This gets referenced a lot as a reason why whatever new kind of costume option can't/won't happen -- thigh/upper leg options, hair with hats, elbow/knee pads, and so on. Nobody ever has a quote, but everyone, including me, remembers some dev saying it at some point in the past.
The thing is, the way I remember it, the statement was closer to being "we only have a limited number of connector points we can place on a character model, and we're close to that limit already." So while my memory mostly jives with yours, the part I keep focusing on is "close to that limit."
"Close to."
Not "at."
I'm trying to remember the last time an entirely new connection point was added to the character model, and unless I'm mistaken, the last things added were capes/back items, and auras. And I'm one hundred percent certain the statement I'm partly remembering came after those were introduced. So it seems like there might not be many connection points left to work with, but it sounds like there are at least one or two.
I guess I'm asking what they think they're saving them for.
I "think" that ears as a separate selection may have been after capes/back items and auras, but I can't recall when they became a separate selection. -

Possibly followed by a Mother Ship Raid led by Mari as well, as per usual?

Quote:Not all people that are not using IO's are nerfing themselves. I've got several SO/HO build characters that are quite fun to play, die very little and can handle pretty much anything I choose to do in the game. I've just never felt the need to put in the time to research the sets or tinker incessantly in Mids just to figure out an IO build I liked. I've recently done a budget build on my main and so far I'm not noticing a huge difference, but I've not had an opportunity to thoroughly test the build since I've been working on another character trying to push it to 50.So, free players and those who choose to nerf themselves. Gotcha. The latter, that's their own play choice. The former...IMO, their "vote" doesn't count 'til they're paying.
Not all players play in a style that allows them to rake in abundant sums of inf or have little use for the market other than selling what they get as drops. Not having the inf readily available for an IO build is something many players have mentioned in various threads.
Since the game isn't balanced around IO's it is an entirely optional system that not all players engage in for various reasons.
Not using an optional system isn't players choosing to "nerf themself", it's just another example of a playstyle that differs from yours. And it's no less valid a playstyle than yours is. -
That's the message you get when someone else has already claimed the code.

Quote:Yes, but the prediction was about what would be announced today.Wait how is that 50%?
We're getting this...
We're kinda getting this too... maybe not every single power but many of them. Just look at what they did to Presence and Fighting.
While they haven't confirmed this outright... they are being suspiciously hush hush with their "we can't talk about it right now" chatter whenever it comes up. It's likely we're gonna see this finally. I'll give the benefit of the doubt.
Sorcery... 'nuff said.
That seems about 100% right to me.
PRAF was only 50% correct since they did NOT announce any graphics customization and they did NOT announce any new power pools (bought in the market or free for all).
The only two that WERE announced today that PRAF said would be announced were the first two of the four. That's 50%.
Sorcery was even more of a dodge than any possible graphics customization in that Synapse pretended he had never heard of it.
So no, they didn't announce Sorcery... 'nuff said. -

Yes, they are Kirby Dots.
And they even started the give aways this afternoon to make up for the limited time tomorrow. -
I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but I believe that was the description they gave. It was as I was logging in to Twitch.TV that this came up so I didn't get all the details.
The other detail that I did catch I won't comment on since it will only anger some. -
Quote:50% on your predictions.This.
The changes will be:
1) Addition of a 5th power to all pools.
2) Overhaul and general buff of existing powers
3) Graphic customisation
4) New pools to buy in the market
Since pools will be generally more powerful, it removes any pressure to nerf Hasten. When 5+ pools have "unskippable" powers, something has to be skipped...
You are not the Oracle we were looking for.

Quote:The word you are looking for is moot, not mute.
the the reason the name was deemed offensive was mute as the 5th column had just made their return to the game,
As for whether or not the use of the word Fuhrer was moot due to the return of the 5th Council, there are several people that would be offended by the use of that name.
The historical figure most people associate with that title was a promoter of genocide and his policies and ideologies led to the deaths of millions of people.
Even though the word may still be in use in Germany, many in the rest of the world would still find the use of that term offensive.
From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Führer, alternatively spelled Fuehrer in both English and German when the umlaut is not available, is a German title meaning leader or guide now most associated with Adolf Hitler. The word Führer in the sense of guide remains common in German, but because of its strong association with Nazi Germany, it comes with some stigma and negative connotations when used as the meaning of leader. The word Leiter is therefore used instead.
In other languages, the word is used almost exclusively as the epithet for Hitler.

Also "by itself" or "in itself". Without referring to anything else, intrinsically, taken without qualifications, etc. A common example is negligence per se.
