1. No. Click on the Updater, on the first screen click Next. On the next screen with the EULA put a checkmark in the box labeled Safe Mode BEFORE you click Accept.

This will load the game with very minimal graphics.
2. We've got some folks over on Justice running the various TF's required for TF commander, in order. Tuesday they ran Synapse, so I asked in the thread about the merits.

This was the response I got that indicated they did receive the merits.
3. Thanks. Good to know that you got them, even if you didn't get a message about it.

True! I was "dead" on Justice for the last 4 years.

but.... I got better.

That's because Mister Frog only rezzes the good stuff.

5. That is the ONLY way I would ever install XP64 on a system.

That's why we have our own resident practitioner of thread necromancy.

Mister Frog.
7. Well, I'd just put a /signed here, but don't want the Mods getting mad at us on this.

Has anyone mentioned the CoHHelper and Hijack this programs yet? I think they may be needed to help solve this issue.

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably
9. The other thing that may be causing problems for CoH Helper is the .Net Framework 2.0 may not be installed or may be corrupted.

You can get the .Net Framework 2.0 and later versions through Windows Updates. I believe that with XP they are listed in the Recommeded Updates or Optional Updates. Can't remember what it's called since I'm not running XP on a daily basis anymore.

I have nothing to add to this until logs and such, but until then...

Sorry, there's just no way I'm going to say any man is sexy. No matter who it is. Now don't get me wrong, Jay is a heck of a nice guy, but sexy? Fuhgeddabowdit.
11. Now appearing daily, Mandu the Magnificent.

Not only is he a tech guru, he's psychic as well.

12. I've been doing a small amount of research since so many times we get comments of "well, my computer runs X, Y and Z MMO's without any problems so it should run CoH".

The majority of the major MMO's that get listed here are running on DirectX, not on OpenGL as CoH does. Yes, WoW can run in OpenGL, but the default installation runs it in DirectX mode. From what I've seen, it's not always easy to get it to run in OpenGL mode.

Even a certain MMO that is scheduled to be released in a few months by a game studio that we are (mostly) all familiar with is running on DirectX with their new engine instead of the OpenGL engine they created previously.

The DirectX vs. OpenGL status of the games is likely why the other games don't have some of the problems that CoH has. Video card manufacturer's, especially ATI, don't always write drivers that handle OpenGL very well.
13. The only thing I can think of to add to this would be, if you've been asked for certain information (just as an example, CoH Helper logs or HijackThis logs) and you haven't provided them, don't bump if you've gotten no other response.

Otherwise, looks good to me.
14. Docam, did anyone have problems with Synapse TF not awarding merits? I only ask since someone is claiming in the Tech forums that it's bugged.
15. I'm having no problems with running CoX on the RC for Windows 7 64-bit. I did have to update my driver as the one Win7 loaded looked fine for everything but wouldn't run CoH at all.

Everything we've tried here in my school district with XP 64-bit met with disaster due to lack of driver support. Using the same hardware on many of the systems that had trouble with XP64 we've had no trouble with Vista64, and often the drivers are already loaded in Windows for the printers. These are the same printers we couldn't find reliable drivers for in XP64.
16. Also, grab the newest ATI drivers for the regular 3650, get the Mobility Modder and follow the instructions on that site to mod the newest drivers to be able to work on the laptop.

After that, yeah, the output of CoH Helper and HijackThis would be the most useful.

Also, you may want to download TweakCoH as well. This will allow you to set the graphics settings before launching the game. Look at the first post in the ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied at the top of the forums. Set her video settings for the Catalyst Control Center and the game according to that post.
17. Yeah, Grandville was the one I was thinking of, just couldn't get my brain to function fully that late at night.

Using the /unloadgfx right before zoning into RV may be of some help.
18. I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

20. It "looks" like you hae a Compaq SR5350F desktop computer. That computer has an empty PCI-e x16 slot, but I can't find any information on the power supply.

Without knowing what the power supply is, it's difficult to know what it will handle.

You may be able to find out what size and type of power supply you have, and possibly what video cards your computer will handle, by calling Compaq/HP Technical Support.

I'm not certain, but I think there was an issue with RV being more graphically intensive than most other zones, but I can't remember. It may have been Grandville I'm thinking of. Right now I just can't remember for sure.

Yes, you caught my typo. I originally had something else there that the word "wouldn't" went with, but then changed most of it and missed making that change. Also, the word you are looking for is meant.

I'll repeat again what I've been saying in other threads. I have one of the lousiest internet connections possible, barring dialup or satellite. It's a Wireless ISP. Not wireless from my computer to the router or modem, I mean I have an antenna outside my house pointing to another antenna on the water tower that is around 2.5 miles line of sight from me. A tree growing in the backyard has branches that have spread out so that they are between my antenna and the water tower, and when ANY amount of breeze blows, those branches move and interrupt my internet connection.

That being said, I had 2 problems from Friday on, and one of those was loss of internet for over 2 hours. One was a minor disconnect during a Rikti Invasion in AP.

If it were a problem with the servers I'd definitely be affected more.

As far as NCSoft looking at what is between their servers and your cable modems? They do, but only if people report it with enough information for them to find a common pattern.

They've worked with ISP's to get things corrected on the ISP's end, they've worked in conjunction with the ISP's and on their own to get problems corrected on other pieces of network equipment along one of the many routes to their servers.

But, they have to have reports filed that contain useful and solid information and not the rants and whines that are so often all that posts on the forums contain. If you file a polite useful report with specific information that they can use to help troubleshoot the issues and continue to work with them through the problem, they can get something accomplished. If they want to blame it on your system, give them proof in the form of tracert information showing where the problems are coming up or other diagnostic information that shows it isn't on your end. If they try to blow you off ask politely that it be escalated to a Senior Customer Service Rep or Senior GM.

23. Looks ok to me, don't see anything really out of the ordinary here.
24. Well, while it is supported, that video card is not one of the best for gaming. It is one of the few Intel Graphics cards that IS listed as being supported.

But that's kinda like saying that the game will run on 512 Mb of RAM. It will run, technically, but it won't be very enjoyable.

Considering the video card you have, you want as little running as possible while gaming.
25. It would be helpful to have a bit more information to work with.

A CoH Helper log would be a good start.
