I volunteer to massage Castle! Since Castle is the only dev I haven't seen a picture of, I MUST assume that Castle is a HAWT FEMALE...

    ...ummm.... named Floyd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, are YOU going to be disappointed. Here's a pic for you:
    Click at your own risk!

That's Dark Watcher, Me and Synapse (Left to right).

EDIT: I see JJDrakken beat me to the punch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Synapse might give Jay a run for his money for the title of sexy dev.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I second this... can we get a pic of JLove? I think I saw one several years ago...I think I can equate the feeling I get when I try to imagine what my CoV friends look like in Rl like I used to want to know my teachers first name. We would sit there and quess until we were purple...

    [/ QUOTE ]

This one is a couple of years old, from the Meet & Greet at the D&B in Milipitas. I've seen some from last years HeroCon, but I'd have to dig for them.

  3. If you have trouble getting into the game long enough to adjust the settings, download TweakCoH and you can set these settings before launching the game.
  4. Turn off Vertical Sync
    Turn off Anisotropic Filtering
Turn Water Effects to Off or Low
    Turn off Bloom
    Turn off Depth of Field

Those settings are ALL in the ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread I linked to earlier.
  5. Ooooookay.

Can you please post the CoH Helper and HijackThis logs that were requested?

You don't have to list your items for high prices. If you really want to follow the golden rule, list all your salvage for what it'd sell for at a store.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, that's what I usually do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For salvage, I always list it for what stores pay for it. 250, 1000, or 5000.

And I still stay ahead of the game on money coming in because someone inevitably has some ridiculously high bid in on a piece of salvage that I list. Sure, sometimes I have to leave it there for a mission or two, but I've not gone more than 3 missions without selling everything I had just put in WW in quite some time.

    Likely before AE came out.

  8. I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

Since you are using an ATI card, I'd recommend setting your CCC and game settings to the settings in the first post in BillZBubba's ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied at the top of this forum.

Also, WoW and likely the other games that run fine are DirectX. City of Heroes is OpenGL. Apples and oranges.
  9. Well, you obviously got someone that is Tier 1 support. Yes, they copy/pasted the wrong text since it is obvious that this is not Guild Wars.

Keep after them, politely answer their questions, but if they keep up with the Guild Wars stuff, politely point out that the game the problem was reported on was City of Villains, not Guild Wars, and that you would appreciate it if they would escalate your ticket to someone that knows how to work with City of Heroes/City of Villains or to the next level of support.

I used to do Tier 3 phone and email based Tech Support, and I know that many companies have scripts written for many of the Tier 1 support staff but the Tier 1 staff doesn't always follow the script path they are supposed to. Heck, I spent 2 weeks figuring out how to fix a badly messed up install for one of our products, built a step by step walkthrough with screenshots on our support website for the techs to use and emphasized at the very top of the page and every third step that each step must be followed exactly or they'd have to start all over again. Guess what, 90% of the time they skipped steps and had to repeat the processes. Or they'd have the customer so irritated that they had to escalate them to my group, and within just a few minutes we'd have them working correctly just by following each step. The worst part was that even after showing them where they messed up, and why it was necessary to follow the steps exactly, they'd pull the same shortcut crap the next time, botch it up worse, and have to escalate it to us again.

Nothing irritates me more than knowing that the correct steps are written down for techs to follow and then they are either too lazy or (in some cases) not intelligent enough to follow the proper chain of steps or deciding they know more than the people that wrote the steps and just skipping willy-nilly through things.

The thing is, stay polite in your conversations with them. Don't give them any reason to cut you off for being rude with them.
  10. Sure, go ahead and /bug it in game.

It's a known issue, but we need to keep the pressure on to get it fixed.

    No problem

Actually I think, even though he's taken, that Hero 1 is probably the hottest of the devs I've met. I'm also quite partial to Russ the marketing guy too. Tall and hot.

    >_> Sigh.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please. Show some decorum. Ross is Marketing. Marketing is ebil. Ross was the one giving Castle the evil-eye at the M&G when he started telling us "things Marketing did not want us to know yet but that Castle thought we needed to know".

    Yes, the quotes are mine.

    Seriously though, a Marketing guy?

    Eeeeeew!!!!!

Won't even let you get away with that one on your birthday.

Try it some day. Guaranteed that if you spend most of your time behind a computer desk typing? You're not gonna want to stand more than an hour before you get a huge back and foot ache.

[/ QUOTE ]Try my job. I work in factory walking around 8-12 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week, in steel toed boots on a concrete floor. I work with 300 degree steam heated presses. The temp and humidity are often quite high, and added on top of heavy lifting and manual labor. I do that at least 5 days a week, at least 8 hours a day every week of the year. So give me a break, standing around in a crowded Con for a couple of days is nothing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    And as I said:

If you worked like the devs do, in front of a computer 350 days a year, this would not be acceptable.

Good for you that you are a hard-working tough-guy. Grats.

The rest of us are deskjob schlubs who are NOT used to it. You dont' get a cookie for being snarky in my thread, nor for trying to diss people who are producing the game you apparently enjoy.

    B'bye.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Pwnt.

  13. I'm with BillZBubba on this one. Just nuke the post count and don't even use it on the new boards.

Post counts mean little if the content of the posts is not useful.

And that includes my own posts.
  14. And asking here for a response? Highly unlikely.

You'd have better luck sending PM's to Positron, Niviene, Moderator 08, Avatea, EMPulse, Ghost Falcon and The Dark Watcher.
  15. Update Windows Vista to Service Pack 2 through Windows Updates. If it is not showing initially, you will need to install the other updates that are showing first, then check back and repeat until you get SP2. And you have the most current video drivers from Acer, so you can't upgrade the video drivers.

    Turn Vertical Sync off.
    Set Physics Quality to Low.
Lower Water Effects to Off or Low.
Lower World Texture Level and Character Texture Level to Low.

Once you have it running smoothly, then you can slowly increase the settings to find where they need to be set. I wouldn't take the World Detail Level above High personally, and possibly the same with Character Detail Level. I'd definitely leave Water Effects on Low or Off and leave Vertical Sync off.

Really, there's not a lot that you can do to increase the video, it's mostly going to be turning it down to make the game playable, due to the limitations of the graphics card.
  16. Turn off Vertical Sync and Anisotropic Filtering. Take a look at BillZBubba's stickied ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread towards the top of this forum. You can pretty much set it at the settings in the first post of the thread.

With the older card you have, you may need to leave the Character Detail and World Detail down a bit as you have them now, but I think you might be able to bump them up to at least Medium for WD and High for CD.

You are a bit light on memory, especially for having so many things running at startup. I'd recommend upgrading to 2GB (motherboard's max) as it should make a rather noticeable difference. If it were me, I'd replace the 1GB you currently have with a 2GB kit so that the memory is the same speed and brand to cut down on incompatibilities. I really like the looks of this Corsair kit, and with the Rebate it makes the price fairly nice. I only buy memory that has a full lifetime guarantee, and Corsair has a great RMA system.

I'll leave the HJT log to someone else.
  17. I doubt that any of the regulars here will bust BillZ on this.

And he did say that he is betting it is a backbone or server side issue.

The backbone he speaks of is the path between the connection leaving his house and arriving at the game servers.

Bill just uses the correct jargon.

After all, he is our Tech Devil.
  18. It's a forum where those who pay for their accounts can post. You may have asked for an open debate/discussion, but you cannot control the postings of other players, nor will the moderators as long as they are within the forum rules.

You can't control how or what they post any more than you can control how they play the game.

EDIT: And you ARE getting discussion. It's just not a bunch of people QQ'ing and agreeing with you. Mostly it's people pointing out that there are already dozens of threads just like this and that we really don't need MORE of them. If you want to discuss it, just post in one of the existing threads instead of making another QQ AE broke the game thread.
  19. I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

  20. Could be one of the hops between your ISP's and the servers is having some problems.

So, that's Mod08, Bruce Horatio Harlick, Vince The Dark Watcher D'Amelio, Matt Positron Miller, Brian General Manager Clayton, Joe Hero1 Morrissey, Ross Marketing Borden, Unknown Woman, David Nakayama.

Who is that Unknown Woman... Mynx?

And congratulations to the guy who teabagged Positron!

Fixed that for ya Z_M. At least I refrained from putting (Foxbat) in with his name.
  22. So, how'd you manage to get CoH to run on the G1?

    I smell h4x!!!!

    Updater Issue

Copy the CoHUpdater.exe file and paste it into the folder on the desktop.

    Not the path, the file.
  24. Texas Justice

    spyware

Similarly, if you have trouble installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, rename the installer to something other than mbam-setup.exe since many of the spyware programs are written to keep that program name from running.
