Nope. That's why they kept making announcements to clean out your PM's and set your forum name. Those that had tested the new forums during I13 Beta remarked on the name change no longer working, so the Community Team kept making reminders that people didn't listen to.

I believe they tried to get a script to do just that, but there is a problem in that.

The old posts all had numbers on the UBB forums. The transferred posts have numbers, but they are not the same.

If you try to create a script to match the old numbers to the new numbers you wind up with the script running at times to fix a link pointing to a post that hasn't been imported yet. If you wait until after the import, it has no reference for the old numbers to be able to translate them to the new numbers.

It's a bit of a Catch-22. This means that the people that write guides or have links in their scripts will need to fix them on their own. Luckily, the editing window on those posts is still open for now.

If you run across a bad link in a file and you know that the person that posted it is no longer an active subscriber, if you search and find the correct link you can PM the Community Support team with a link to the post that needs to be fixed giving them the bad link in the post and the corrected link in the post. It may take them a while to get it edited in since they have quite a bit going on with these new forums and their other duties.

That is EXTREMELY odd, as I've not seen anyone that is using IE having problems at all, only Firefox.

You ARE using the boards.cityofheroes.com link to log in aren't you?

I've stayed logged in using IE for over 24 hours on one computer, with the only real activity being to use it to check PM's, look at different index pages for updated posts, and adjusting or finding adjustments in the UserCP.

Actually, for Vista 64-bit that looks like the default installation path.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.EU.exe

For Vista 32-bit the default path would be as follows:

    C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.EU.exe

One thing I would recommend would be to right-click that shortcut on the desktop, go to Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and put a checkmark in the box for Run As Administrator and then click OK.

As for the EU updater, I'm sorry I can't be more help but I'm just not that familiar with the EU servers and updater.

  6. Welcome back Djeannie.

I noticed you have a typo in your sig that is not letting the color tag work correctly. You have a space between the = and yellow that is breaking the tag.

The link doesn't work for me, so I can't post the full corrected code for you. If that was a link from the old UBB forums, you'll need to search to find it here (luckily you should know which forum you posted it in, and possibly the title) and then you can fix the link so it works.

  8. Ok. Let's start by getting a little information first.

What Operating System are you using? Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X, or some flavor of Linux?

What is the name of the file you are clicking on to start the game?

Are you playing on the North American servers or on the EU servers?

I eagerly await your reply so that I can try to help you get back into the game.
  9. Now, you need to figure out how to make this work with other browsers such as IE8.

Firefox has other problems on the new forums that will keep me using IE most of the time on here.

I had the same problem yesterday using Firefox Zloth. Apparently I'd been off the forums long enough that some timing string that Firefox read concluded that the threads were no longer New or no longer had New Posts.

I opened up IE and those same threads and posts were marked as New.

Chalk another one up against Firefox.

I'm glad you have such an option Catwhoorg. Unfortunately, unless I want to go back to dial-up (ugh) or spend wads of cash putting in a HughesNet satellite system that will be laggy, I don't have that option.

I had two minor LCMS messages that lasted a few seconds this weekend. ALL of my other problems were due to my ISP. 3 times I lost internet for nearly an hour.

But as long as my ISP connection was up, the game ran smooth for me on Justice, with the 2 minor exceptions noted above.

I wanted to elaborate on those situations, and your post seemed like a good starting point to do so.

Again, I'm sorry if it came across as implying that you advocated a position that you do not.

In that case, we're good with no problems.

It was the wording that had me concerned. I even had someone I work with read it to get his impression, and he thought the same thing.

    No harm, no foul.

But we still need more options to deal with images.

Ugh, and better smilies (yes, I saw the post that they are coming, I just loathe these enough to bring it up again).

I'm still puzzled by the description the OP gave.

I hope I did enough to that one word above to bring it to people's attention.

Not everyone is running the most current versions of all software. Previous version of Firefox possibly, a java version with a vulnerability, a flash version with a vulnerability, etc. could all lead to problems.

Since I haven't seen any reports from the OP's system, I have no clue whether everything is current.

What we need to remember is that on the old forums the posting of images was limited to the Dev/Community team, while on these new forums *everyone* can do so. Consequently it was rather rare to run into images on the old forums, but now that everyone can use them we can expect them to be used *much* more frequently, hopefully to good effect.
We're going to see people using screenshots to help describe problems they're having, graphs in balance discussions, and pictures of fuzzy kittens in photo albums.

Not only are we going to see images used much more often, we're also going to see cases where multiple images are set to be displayed adjacent to eachother. This is great for comparisons, and provides an overview that is not trivial to replicate with links to images.

We also have a rather extreme example in the City Scoop. Try reading an issue of that with images disabled. It's... not quite the same.

Basically, disabling images in order to avoid signature images comes at the cost of the functionality offered by our newfound ability to post images. As people start taking more and more advantage of that ability, that cost can become quite high.

The alternatives aren't exactly great either.

Sure, we can turn signatures off entirely, but signatures can contain relevant information, and many use their signatures to bring attention to interesting threads. In other cases, the signatures can actually contain the answer to a question, or at least part thereof.

We can also use adblocking extensions to block individual signature images. However, these blocking rules must be applied individually to different image locations, which means that as you keep reading threads with posters you haven't seen before, you have to keep adding blocking rules, something that can become especially cumbersome in big threads, such as the "official" threads about various issues.

This is further complicated by people using "cycling images" (using image links that refer to alternating images). In these cases, each cycled image must be covered, which means that sometimes it's not enough to make one blocking pass through someone's signature. Sometimes you'll have to add one more blocking rule just by hitting refresh on a thread (repeated until you've gone through all their alternate images). Sometimes you'll be able to block several alternates at once by using rules for a specific directory, but this will not always be possible (people using different locations for different sig images), and sometimes you'll run into people using the same directory for both signature images and other images (which means that if you block out all their alternating sig images with one rule, you'll also block other images they might post).

And of course, some people are using more than one signature image, which again means more work to block them all out.

As more and more people start to use signature images (and also *change* those images), the work to keep them all blocked will continue to rise (and the number of applied blocking rules will become quite high).

Basically, all options suck to some degree, including the option to completely remove sig images, since there are obviously people that like having them. In my opinion, removing sig images would be the option that sucks *the least* though.
Please, re-read the first sentence in the text of mine that you quoted.

    To wit:

    Quote:

I agree that we need more control over what images we turn off.
With the way your post is worded, it sounds like you are implying that I don't want more images, but am just proposing everyone turn off images altogether.

That ain't right. And it ain't what I'm about.

There is no excuse that I've seen that gets around the fact that people should have the ability to say "no" to images (either embedded or as img tags) in signatures.

That may be one of the few times I've mentioned disabling images without also mentioning needing MORE control over what we disable. If you look at most of my posts about it, you'll see that I'm a proponent of more control, such as the ability to turn off ONLY images in ONLY signatures.

I need access to the links in some peoples signatures, and unless someone gets witty with ASCII art, the Text sigs don't bother me, but I'd rather be able to turn off Images in signatures so that I don't have to be bombarded with things I don't want to see unless I choose to.

I'd have to go back and look to see who I was responding to, and how their post was worded, but I think the reason I worded it as I did was due to how theirs was worded.

I'm glad I'm not in your shoes of working on the City Scoop and having to have images turned on so that the Scoop looks right, and in consequence having to see all of the images in signatures.

    No problems here.

I've sat on the login screen several times this weekend due to ISP issues and losing internet connection.

No problems at all with the CCC.

Aha. it was Moderator 08 that commented on it.

Someone, probably Zombie_Man, has a thread here that started as a makeshift Dev Tracker, but we found some problems with it but there is a solution in it that works. Somewhere.

I just went to my UserCP and my Contacts link, added each of the ones I want to track as Contacts (but did not send Friend requests) and when I need to see what they've said, I click their name there and then click the link for the posting activity.

It's a kludgy fix, but it works for me until they get the Dev Digest and Community Digest working right.

EDIT: It was Zombie_Man that started the post. It's already slid to the second page on my view of the forums.
  19. It's worked well the way it is for some time now.

I see no need for a change.

I can't agree with that, and I know of very few others that would agree with it either, especially considering how many people have been asking for a Show All button for each thread.

I'd wish you luck getting support for the idea, but that would be dishonest of me since I would be against it.

I set mine to 100 per page, which is the max. From what I gather, being able to set a higher number really stresses the SQL server calls, which would result in slower forums.

There are very few threads I can think of that 100 posts per page isn't sufficient for, and even for those long threads, I'd rather have some kind of breaking point for going back and looking for some old post. I understand that there is some addon for Firefox or Opera that will preload the next few page for you as you near the bottom of a forum page, so this may be an option for you. But not everyone runs Firefox or Opera or wants to take the time to hunt for addons.

    Known issue.

Basically, when they imported all of the old posts, they all got new numbers. The links in guides, signatures, and anywhere else all pointed to the numbers from the old forums, and in some cases UBB used a rather odd format to how it configured the address, depending on how you got to it in the first place. A script couldn't make the changes becuase it had to have the new numbers to be able to change it, but they couldn't have new numbers until they were imported so they lost the old number so the script didn't have an old number to replace with the new number so ....

Yeah, it gives a headache just thinking about it. This is likely one of the things that they were trying to get worked out before the changeover that delayed moving to the new forums so long. I imagine they tried several solutions before giving up.

The good news is that it appears that they left the Edit time on posts open ended so that the guide writers or managers can go in and manually search for the new addresses of the posts then edit the guide to reflect the changes without having to PM the Community team to have them edit the posts.

Can we get the option to view all the subforums grouped straight on the index?
Or hell, not even the option, just make it work like that.
I know these boards can do it. Do it!

I see absolutely zero point in having to follow the menu to a submenu of subforums before actually going where you want to go. I especially hate it when the internet is acting up- I already have to drag myself through hell to view each thread, do I have to do it again for each subsection of subforums?

Which reminds me of a feature that I don't think is supported on these that I would still like to dreamily wish for- View Entire Thread.
Are you looking for something along this line? If so, just bookmark that page.

If it is something else, I'm not understanding you well enough to know if there is something similar available.

Me? I preferred the old Favorite Forums view, and figured out how to make an approximation of that view here and then wrote up a brief guide for it. It doesn't get it perfectly like the old Favorite Forums view, but it's close enough for my needs.
