    Otherwise no.
Those settings are some that ATI cards are known for having problems with using the In-Game settings. If you want more information, Bill Z Bubba explained it much better than I ever could in his ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations post that is stickied in this forum.
  2. When you say "everything else runs perfectly", are you referring to other games?

Are those games DirectX or OpenGL?

If they are OpenGL, like CoH, what version of OpenGL were the games written for?

Do those games use the Cryptic Engine that CoH uses?

If they are DirectX, you are comparing Apples to Oranges. DirectX and OpenGL use very different calls to do things, and hardware manufacturers don't always write their drivers to handle OpenGL correctly, or at least not as smoothly as they do DirectX.

If they are using a different version of OpenGL, you are comparing Oranges to Tangerines. Newer versions of OpenGL handle things that older versions can't, or in ways that they couldn't. When City of Heroes was written the only version of OpenGL was OpenGL 1. Some elements of OpenGL 2 may have been included with CoV, but the game engine wasn't really designed to handle them.

If they are using the Cryptic Engine that CoH uses, that game is called either CoH or CoV. Nothing else uses that engine.

Without information that would be provided by a CoH Helper report and a HijackThis log, it's really difficult to tell what the cause of the problems may be.

For instance, different Operating Systems may have different problems with the same video card driver version. Without full information, we are all just playing a game of Blind Man's Bluff.
  3. Also, turn off Vertical Sync, Anisotropic Filtering, and to be safe, Desaturation effects. But yeah, those video drivers could stand updating.

Ok. The 1 Gig of RAM is a bit low.

Also, your driver installation is corrupted. Download DriverSweeper and install it, but don't run it yet. Download the correct video driver for your card, uninstall all ATI display driver and Catalyst Control Center stuff from the Programs and Features setting in the Control Panel (it used to be known as Add/Remove Programs). Reboot into Safe Mode (press F8 rapidly as computer is booting up until the menu comes up), run DriverSweeper to remove all ATI Display Driver and other video related software, reboot into normal Windows, cancel any automatic installations that try to come up, then install the video drivers you downloaded earlier.

I'm not certain where the HD 2400 falls in the video card ratings, but since it is an ATI card, I would recommend setting your CCC and in-game video settings to those in the first post of Bill Z Bubba's ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied in this forum. It gives reasons for most of the settings and is a good baseline to start with. Once you get things running smoothly, you might be able to tweak some settings up 1 settings at a time, or you may just want to not mess with a good thing, especially if you aren't sure what each setting does exactly.

I prefer not installing my games to the C:\Program Files directory, especially those that run updates such as CoH. Instead, I install to a folder called C:\Games so that my CoH install is at C:\Games\City of Heroes instead.

Also, you have a LOT of unnecessary files starting up with Windows, as shown by the 04 entries in HijackThis. I'd recommend going into msconfig and going to the Startup tab and killing off unneeded programs like Adobe Reader Speed Launcher, Java Update Scheduler, the QuickTime task, iTunesHelper, etc. Those programs will launch when you start something that needs them, so it is using up resources you are already short on at startup.

After doing these things, post a fresh CoH Helper and HijackThis log and let us know how it's running for you.
  5. Also, the map is generally the same map as the mission you just exited, and I think that each time I've run it the glowies were in the same place as the previous mission as well.

Easily doable, but as Agge said, designed to be failed as noted by the text being the same whether you Fail the mission or complete it.
  6. Wow, that was quick.

    Thanks Niv/Avatea/whoever.
  7. Welcome Red.

Glad to see an introduction post for one of the enigmatic new rednames that have been showing up in the Currently Active Users section of the front page of the forums.

Now, we just need a few more to crawl out of the woodwork.

    Supremo - $27.95 - choose 4 items & 1 dessert, incl soft drinks, coffee & tea

Link to Buca di Beppo (apparently I can't get it to link directly to the banquet menu.)
And oddly enough, that one went to the Buca main page making me pick a State, then a City.

It may be that you can't link directly to the menu since it is based off of the choices of State and City. Hard to tell, but I'm going to test something and then check it on my other computer after posting.

And yes, the prices become very reasonable per person.

EDIT: Well, my link goes directly to the Banquet Menu, so I'm not sure what you were doing wrong Red. Maybe it has something to do with my superior computer skillz.

  9. And having seen the effects on the civillians that Ishmael had, I don't think the Mayhem clustering can even come close.

I basically gave up hope with customer service and never posted another reply to the ticket after that suggestion from them.
Not all of the Customer Service people with NCSoft are this daft. You may have gotten ahold of a fairly new CSR or one that, quite simply, isn't thinking really clearly. Many of the CSR's are more competent in different NCSoft games.

This would be another reason to ask, pollitely, that it be escalated to a Senior GM since the one you have isn't really assisting you in resolving the problem.
  12. Download the video drivers from nVidia's website. Uninstall your video drivers from the Control Panel. Once you have them uninstalled, reboot the computer into Safe Mode (press F8 rapidly as it is booting), run DriverSweeper and remove any nVidia Display drivers listed, reboot into Windows normally cancelling any driver installations that pop up, install the nVidia drivers.

Once this is done post a fresh CoH Helper log as this will let us see if the drivers installed correctly.

As Golden Girl said, it's a known issue and is being worked on.

Devian created a CoH Digest that works fairly well, it's just not on these forums.
  14. Post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

It is MUCH more informative from a troubleshooting standpoint than DXDiag in these situations.

Also, you may want to check out jg0001's NVDIA Settings for Quality (ver 2) thread that is stickied in this forum for information on how to set your NVidia Control Panel and in-game video settings correctly.

  16. 1) Yes.
    1a) Yes.
1a1) Glorioso or Supremo to give the largest selections.

Of the Antipasti, Garlic Bread (Mozzarella Garlic Bread if we go Glorioso).
I have no opinion on the Ensalate, since I'm not much of a salad person.
Of the Pastas, Spaghetti (preferably with Meatballs, but Marinara is OK) or Lasagna.
Of the Entrees, Salmon with Pesto or Chicken Parmigiana would be my preferences.
    Of the Deserts, Tiramisu.
Of the Side Dishes (if we go with the Glorioso), Spicy or Mild Italian Sausage would be my choice. If we go with the Supremo it's possible I'll see about paying for my own order of Mild Italian Sausage and will be willing to share, depending on how big the serving is.

    1c) Nope.
1d) Well, you already know the answer, I won't elaborate here. However, if you only intended the No people to answer the 1c question, you should have made it a 1b1 instead.
    2) Cake.
    3) Friday at 5:30 sounds good to me, depending on what Niv plans and when others are arriving. I can't see pushing it back much later than 6:30 at the latest, as it will rush us too much.

As with last year, I'll be arriving shortly before 11:30, so I'll be getting in touch with DD and other people to see which In'N'Out we will be invading for lunch this year, unless a suitable alternative is agreed on.
  17. The Devs have already indicated that they want it working as it is and gave their reasons.

I doubt their viewpoint on it has changed much since then.

Then I would recommend politely asking that they reopen the ticket and help your ISP determine where the cause lies between the ISP connection and the CoH Servers.

We've had other players that have filed tickets for problems and NCSoft Support worked to find where the problem was and helped to get the problem corrected, as did the ISP. The problem was neither the ISP or the game servers, but they worked together to get it resolved for the customer.

EDIT: Also, politely remind the initial support people that just because it isn't their servers, that doesn't mean it is your ISP that is at fault. If needed, ask that it be escalated to a more senior Customer Service Representative or GM.
  19. File a support ticket on the NCSoft Support Site and work through the steps that they ask you to in order to troubleshoot the issues.

If you don't let them know there is a problem, and work through the troubleshooting steps so that they can try to find the source of the trouble, well, then there isn't much anyone else can do to help you.
  20. Turn off Vertical Sync
    Turn off Anisotropic Filtering
Turn Water Effects to Off or Low
    Turn off Bloom
    Turn off Depth of Field

Basically, you want to set your CCC and ingame settings to those in the first post of BillZBubba's ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied here. Explanations for why those settings are problematic are in the post as well. Mostly, it is due to ATI's implementation of OpenGL support in the drivers.

Once you have things running smoothly, you can tweak up some of the settings one at a time, keeping in mind the items that will cause problems.

First, install Service Pack 2 for Vista through Windows update. You may need to install other updates before it will show up, or you may need to unhide it if you have previously hidden it. You can also download it directly from Microsoft's website.

Second, your video and audio driver installations appear to be corrupted as indicated by the yellow text and the year portion of the dates.
  22. Some options you do not want to enable at all as they will cause problems.

Yes, it is how ATI implemented the OpenGL calls in the drivers.

I just set mine to the settings in the first post of BillZBubba's ATI Issues and Setting Recommendation thread that is stickied in the Technical Issues and Bugs forums and don't have any problems. I could likely play around with slight increments to a few areas to see if I can improve the graphics without causing other problems, but since it works so well the way it is, I see no reason to mess with it and get myself frustrated.
  23. Yeah, in a roundabout way, what my previous post really means is ...

    I blame Con.

  24. It could be any number of things. Usually, it means an error has occurred somewhere in the game and that it is going to have to close itself down on your computer.

To answer your other questions in order:

Yes, I'll post some info at the end so that we can see if it is something on your side.

Possibly, but not as likely or more people would have the exact same message coming up when they do whatever you were doing.

    Not very likely.

It would all depend on what is causing the message. The only surefire way to make sure you never see that message again would be to never launch the game again. Not a solution I'd recommend.

As for what you can do, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.
Second, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
  25. Buca? Sure, count me in.

Holder's for Bacon Waffles? Need you ask? I'm definitely there, especially since I'll be able to have Bacon Waffles in the presence of BaconLordBob.

Oh, and if you are inputting the address for Holder's in your GPS, be sure to input the FULL street name, or you may wind up in some residential section.

Yeah, it will be input into the GPS unit I'm taking to HeroCon. I'll blame my sister if I get lost using her GPS and spare Red and DD.
