  1. Post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings. It gives us more useful information than the DXDiag does.

No, the link I gave is for the "All Languages" full download of SP2 for Server 2008 and Vista. There is also a "5 Languages" version, but the most efficient is the one through Windows Update since it only downloads what YOUR computer needs. If you look at the page I linked to in the section headed System Requirements, you'll see that it lists Vista Ultimate 64-bit editions.

The first two are intended for IT people (like me) that want to have a single download that we can put on a network drive or DVD and run from those without having to download it at each computer.
  3. Well, the trip isn't cheap for me either, coming from Texas and all, but ...

You don't understand how much I hate to rely on others for a ride. It was tolerable at the M&G in Austin a few years back since there were so many locals offering rides, including infallible (can't remember if MissInformed was driving any of the groups or not, sorry). But I still had a rental car if I'd felt like doing the driving on those group outings.

I did disappear for a bit and do some non-group driving around, and I'd have been frustrated without a car.
  4. I just can't stand not having a car available if I want to get somewhere and not rely on others for a ride.

    One of my odd quirks.

    One of many.
  5. I will be renting a car again this year after all, so will have "some" room for riders.

I hope that I'll have my Designated Driver from last year, Karoiseka, driving again this year, even though I'll be sober. This would likely mean The Meg, Arwen and Phantom would be with me as well, although I haven't had a chance to talk to any of them about it.

I'll post back later after talking to them about ride arrangements.

There is. Sometimes you have to do some other updates first before it will show up.

Or, you can go directly to Microsoft's website to get it.

Yes. Nice to see one of our Justice folks quoted there. But I think they should have posted a picture of Stabitha in her costume from last year along with her quote.

At least, I think it was Stabitha that was wearing the white costume all day Saturday. She got quite a few double-takes from the Quilters and the wedding parties as well. Especially the guys.

EDIT: Yeah, it was Stabitha. *cough*

Be sure not to miss the bolded part above about the DellDock. It was one of the first things I uninstalled on my Dell when I got it, and I haven't missed it a bit. Just disable it if you don't want to uninstall it. If you find that is the problem, you can make the decision then for yourself if it is worth keeping it installed.

Yep, as mentioned in previous post, upgrade to SP2. It really helps.

Those driver dates are really hinky looking and suggest corrupt driver installations. Yes, I know it's a new computer, but even Dell can screw the pooch at times.

In the ATI thread I mentioned in the other post, Bill gives a good set of instructions for correctly uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. I'll recommend using DriverSweeper since it is still free, unlike the excellent Driver Cleaner that Bill mentions. Just follow the same basic steps but use DriverSweeper in place of Driver Cleaner.

Keep us posted on how things go.

If so, it must be disabled.

My advice is to post a HiJackThis report, and let people see if there are something conflicting running.

Glad you changed the wording on that.

Installing SP2 would be the first order of business for me, but I think the culprit is likely the DellDock. It uses similar coding to WindowBlinds or is just a reskinned version of WindowBlinds and can cause problems as panthera noted above. Something you didn't install but came on your PC from the OEM.

Also, since you are using an ATI video card, I would highly recommend starting off (once you get the launcher problem resolved) by setting your Catalyst Control Center and in-game graphics settings by the first post in Bill Z Bubba's ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread. It will save you many headaches at first. Once you get things running smoothly, you can start tweaking some settings (keeping in mind the ones Bill lets us know are definitely problematic in CoH) to increase your visual settings. Bill likes his pretty in the game, so you may find that the settings suit you fine, but you may want to play with them one setting at a time on your own.

Along those lines, you may want to download and install TweakCoH which will allow you to adjust your graphics settings before you get into the game as well as letting you change some of the fonts used by the game. It likely does more that I just haven't played with it enough to know about.

One other thing you might want to try is another setting in the Properties of your shortcut to the game. On the Compatibility tab, try putting a checkmark in "Disable desktop composition". This turns off Aero when you launch the game, and when you close it will re-enable Aero. So you can have your shiny and not have it interfere with your gaming.

    Ok.

I've seen people put things on Brand New Computers that caused problems before they got the main application they usually run installed. It happens.

I've also seen enough crapware installed by OEM's to make my eyes bleed.

I've seen software that goes with the motherboard's hardware cause game problems (I'm looking at you nVidia Network Firewall, among others).

I've also seen inadvertent settings in HJT logs that had people saying "How the heck did THAT get there".

If you are going to ask for our help, please give us the information we are asking for that allows US to help YOU more efficiently. It doesn't take that long to download, install and run HJT then post the results here.

It's not like we are asking you to run a 24-hour MemTest.
  13. Someone reported this a few days ago trying to load the newest nVidia driver. I can't recall off the top of my head if they had the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista.

I'll look to see if I can find it and report back.

It may be that nVidia goofed something in their download link or packaging the file for download and it's actually got a 64-bit driver in the package or some of the error-checking for the 64-bit version in the package.

You might check on the nVidia official forums to see if others are reporting this problem as well. It's possible that there is a workaround listed if others are reporting it.

EDIT: After finding the post I mentioned, it was a different error message that he was getting so it probably isn't related.

I would recommend posting the results from running CoH Helper. Maybe we'll spot something that is causing the problem.
  14. Could be from the stench of AE PL requests in Atlas.

I'm seeing several reports in the Technical Issues and Bugs forums.

I think it may be due to some tweaking being done on the back end to try to tame the new forum software.

If so, the changes they are making are causing the unintended side-effect of old notifications resending.

    Just a guess.

But by the time (3yrs after her creation) she got genericed, she'd been going through some heavy RP transformations and had red skin, horns, and a very skimpy set of outfits. In the end, i was basically told that just having Thor in her name was enough, in this case.
Hmmm. Don't anyone tell Thor's Assassin about this, or Assassin of Thor. I think it would break his Art.

  18. Update to Service Pack 2, it helps with several issues.

Turn off Anisotropic Filtering in your in-game settings. There are known issues here. If you want to read more detail, check out Bill Z Bubba's stickied thread on ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations.

I experience none of the problems you describe, even on my old XP system that stutters and staggers like a drunk on a 3 day binge anytime I try to go to a Hami Raid, even with the graphics turned down. That computer has an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ processor, 2 Gigs of RAM, and an nVidia 6800 Ultra.
  19. Also, they can check your Souvenir's and see that you have the completion souvenir, which is again, only gotten after defeating Burkholder and successfully completing the TF.

I know of Hami Raid's on Justice that had some mapserve problems and people not getting the Merits or HO's awarded. Through polite persistence with the GM's the players were finally able to get their Merits or HO's that they'd earned.

One of the big keys is staying polite.
  20. Nope. If you look through the Members List for people like Ice Knight, you'll find that they have the normal Forum Titles like the rest of the posters. Ice Knight's is Legend IIRC.

Even special titles like Bill Z Bubba's title of Tech Devil are gone, as well as those that won the writing contests and other special titles.
  21. Ah, I keep forgetting Ice Knight is PERC as well as PvPEC. For some reason, I was thinking W-N was PvPEC as well, but without the special titles I can't tell who's who anymore.

Don't think I've seen Jack post at all.
