  1. Great seeing you again man. Lots of good things coming to you in your future I'm sure.

We didn't have an Aussie chick giving us directions this year. We went with an upgrade.

    Yoda.

I'm just glad my nephew didn't get the R2D2 download for his GPS or Brax would have forced us to use it.
  2. Gratz to all the Justice nominees.

Mekk, additional gratz for the Trivia Contest win. That was some really cool schwag to win.

Nice getting to see you again this year at HeroCon as well.
  3. Happy Birthday Arwen.

    Us 27ths gotta hang together.

Thanks for all the help at HeroCon. Love ya lots.
  4. Happy Birthday Chloe. It was fantastic getting to meet you at HeroCon.
  5. I was SOOOOO glad I decided to chance the Bacon Waffles, even though I knew it might cause me problems. They were sooooo good.

Bob's looked even better though after being covered with strips of Bacon.

I think I could hear his arteries hardening from the far end of the table.
  6. Gratz on the degree man. It'll be good to see you again this weekend. I'll keep good thoughts going for you in the job hunt, especially with Paragon Studios looking over resumes and such this weekend.

Players do. Look at the bottom right of the page and you'll see a link for Edit Tags.
  8. Update Vista to SP2 and install all the recommended security updates.

If it were me, I'd free up some space on the C: drive to see if that helps any, and also I'd lower the PhysX Quality to High.

I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
  10. Staples. At least one drain may still be in place, although it's unclear whether it will be removed beforehand or not. Right now it has a metal clamp on it, and they are looking at the output from the other one to see if it can be removed.

Yeah, it was the big surgery, no laprascope for me. Haven't really had much pain luckily, except when I try to get up from laying down flat and that's mostly resolved now that I'm at home and able to sleep in my recliner again. It was mostly the raising and twisting at the same time that was getting to me.

10 pound weight lifting limit won't come close to being touched if I can help it. Luggage has wheels, I'll just be paying/begging for the lifting help. I'm carrying nothing on the plane but me, so no worries about the overhead bin and will be checking my luggage at the curb (if it's available in Austin) or having one of the Continental people lift it when I check in if my sister doesn't insist on coming in that far with me just to handle the luggage (very possible).

I'll have fun with the security anyway, with the extra metal it may take me longer to get in and out. Unless they accept the note from the doctor and do one check on me then wave me through the other lines.

When I mess things up, I do it big. My biggest worry Friday was that I was going to knock myself out of the trip. Yeah, I know that shouldn't have been my biggest concern at the time, but it was anyway.

    I gotta get a life.
  11. Much as it pains me to say it, the most help I'll likely need is for people to act as a bit of a buffer to keep from being banged around too much by exuberant friends, especially during hugs.

Ah well, this should keep the ladies happier to be around me knowing I'm restricted in this manner.

  12. I really NEED to be there. For my mental health at the very least. If I'm unable to go I'll be beating myself up for no reason for a long time, even though I know it isn't my fault.

Plus, you folks don't realize how much I have been looking forward to this for stress relief. No, I won't be getting out of hand like I did last year, or anything remotely close to it, but hanging with you guys and gals is the outlet I need to keep myself stable. A bit of a family reunion as it were, or high school reunion without the bad side effects, just remembrances of good times and enjoying good company.

Yeah, I have no real life here, just work and the people I work around. That's not healthy in the long run, but such is life in a small town.
  13. I'm sleeping over at my sister's Thursday (30 miles away) and she'll be driving me to Austin to catch my flight. I'll be able to sleep in the car, probably, and some on the flight. She works nights so she has no problems being wide awake for the nearly 3 hour drive. It's possible that due to our travel times we may be able to cut it closer to 2 1/2 hours.

Due to some R/L issues, elaborated on elsewhere, I'll likely kick back somewhere during the event and just chill with some others. No alcohol, but it's not needed anyway.
  15. I'll post this here, since I'm sure most of the HC attendees will see it.

I DO plan to be at HeroCon, and DO plan to partake of the festivities as much as possible.

    However....

Friday I was admitted to the local hospital for tests, and sent to the hospital 30 miles away for surgery as soon as they had test results they could confirm.

Several large gall stones were removed as well as my gall bladder. I just got home Tuesday evening from the hospital and MY plan it to attend, but I may not have the final say. The surgeon really doesn't want me going since it's a flight and I'll still have a bit of hardware to deal with. Also, he's a putz, but he was the one on call.

My sister is planning to drive me to Austin to catch the flight and then pick me up Monday, so that is covered. But my doctor's appointment isn't until Thursday afternoon so it will be a bit late to try to change plans by then.

I may have to back out of strenuous stuff like the Live Mission Event but I really want to have time to visit with my friends on Justice, so I'll be doing whatever is needed to make the big gatherings. This will likely cut me out of things like the trip to the Tech Museum and any other side trips, but it's more important for me to visit with my friends than any of the other stuff.

As I say though, it isn't my final decision as to whether I can go, but I do hope to be there as I've been looking forward to seeing you all again. I'll post Thursday night to let you know what I find out.
  16. If the leader had called in to the contact at the end of the mission and received the next mission before he logged out, it sets the mission at his level.

As far as I've seen, there is no way to reset the mission level after that.

Check Bill Z Bubba's stickied ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread and adjust your CCC and ingame graphics settings to those in the first post.

World of Warcraft uses a completely different engine, so comparisons to how it plays are useless.

You don't HAVE to click a Quick Reply button. On the left hand column is a New Reply button that opens the editor. In that window, you can scroll down and see the text of ALL of the messages before you clicked the New Reply button.

Also, if you have your editor set for the Advanced WYSIWYG editor, you have all of the editing and formatting capabilities.

Would I like to see them figure out how to configure vBulletin to not force you to click one of the icons to use the Quick Reply box (yes, it can be done, I'm told it's a rather simple setting to change), I don't see any reason to complain about it in every post. I'd also like them to set the software to enforce the signature limits, which I'm told it can do, not just print them on the Edit Signature page. In the meantime, I've found other ways to deal with Signature pics, even though it requires using Firefox for the forums.
  19. If you hear of Continental Airlines employees in Houston going berserk that Friday, well, you'll know why.
  20. Ah, ok. But, using that same example, I'm losing lots of sleep. Don't forget, you are also going to sleep 3 hours later.

I fly out of Austin at 7AM CST Friday. It's a bit of a drive from my home to Austin (2 1/2 to 3 hours) so getting to the airport at 6 (better safe than sorry) I need to leave home around 3 AM. And of course, that requires getting up even earlier, likely around 2 AM CST.

Brax, Arwen, Phantom, and a few other east coasters are on the same flight out of Houston with me (and SuperGoober at least, no idea on Neutra yet) but I have no idea what time they are having to get up for their flights. I 'd imagine it would be close to mine, only an hour earlier being EST instead.

By the time things come to a bit of a conclusion on Friday night, at least judging by last year, I'm figuring somewhere around midnight PST, which would translate to 2AM CST. At that point, I'll have been up 24 hours. While this wouldn't have been much of a problem a decade or two ago, I'm not as young or resilient as I was then, no matter how much I try to pretend I'm still young and vibrant.

Being older, my body not only needs more rest, but it doesn't rebound as quickly as it used to either. Sure, I'll likely be able to nap a bit on the plane, but it's not the same as a restful sleep. I've considered getting a hotel for the night before the flight, just to avoid the morning drive, but that's an extra expense I really don't want or need.

All in all, I'll be dragging most of Saturday morning until likely around mid-afternoon. I'll have to be careful about sitting down and being too still and comfortable, since I'd be likely to nod off where I sit. Yes, I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere, and have even done so standing up on a construction job with heavy equipment driving past me. Long story, wrong venue, ask me at HC and I'll likely regale you with that boring story if you insist.

Time change is the following weekend. Took effect in 2007 as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The change is now the first Sunday in November.

Even if we were still under the old rules, we wouldn't be getting the benefit of a time change until Sunday. Time changes are at 2AM on Sunday morning, not on Saturdays.

In any event, I'll make whatever effort is required of me to be on time.
  22. Suspicious, that is a known problem of ATI drivers. They don't play well with several of the settings in the game, including Bloom and Water Effects. You may want to check out Bill Z Bubba's stickied post ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations. It will give you an understanding of what settings the ATI drivers have problems with, and in some cases why, as well as recommendations for settings. Even though the post is old, the same issues still exist, so that thread is a good starting point for ATI users. You can tweak your system after that with a better understanding of what problems may occur.

Once you understand the why on some of them, it will really make you wish ATI's Agent Ruby had had more interaction with out game community.
  23. Yeah, sadly, it's the video card. It's an S3 video card chipset, which is not only not supported, but plain garbage for anything but text.

Won't even bother looking at the rest of it at this point, since it's a bit of a moot point.

The good news is that your motherboard has a PCI-Express slot that you can put a supported video card in. I'd also recommend upgrading the memory, since 1 Gb is a bare minimum nowadays. You may want to look at your power supply as well, and report back here on what brand/wattage it is so that people can recommend a video card that your current power supply can handle.
  24. I don't think that video card is supported, but it's hard to tell with the name given. What little I can find seems to indicate it is an S3 video card or chipset (likely onboard) and that is NOT a supported video chipset for the game.

To get a full picture of the hardware, drivers, and settings involved, please post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

It sounds like a driver issue people were having with an nVidia driver released a few months ago, but I don't recall the number off the top of my head. You may want to try rolling back to a slightly older driver, or updating to a newer driver. Since you don't list any driver or OS information, it's hard to tell what to recommend.

It's really hard to troubleshoot an issue with so little technical information.

I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.
