Rather than shrink the window down because it displays things you don't need to see, why not EDIT the tab to remove the things you don't want to see?

Rebooted is just turning your computer on and off.

    Reinstalling windows is... Reinstalling Windows.
Rebooted is what I asked, rebooted is what they answered.
  3. Download and run CoH Helper (right-click the file and Run as Administrator), then paste the output from the program into a new post here. It will give us system information and show your ingame settings to help troubleshoot.
  4. Phoenix_Wrath, did you right-click on the CoH Helper and select Run as Administrator?

If you did that, how long has it been since you rebooted the computer?
  5. Update to Vista Service Pack 2. I'd also recommend installing any other Windows Updates available.

Update your video drivers. Those are VERY old and are going to have many problems with the game. The nVidia Verde Notebook Release 197.16 drivers "should" install on your Asus laptop.

Did you try to install the drivers from the Intel website? It won't hurt your system at all if they won't install due to Sony tweaking the system to not allow them, but they "might" actually install and help resolve your issues.
  7. Why not post the output from running CoH Helper and HiJackThis. It'll give us more than vague information and guesswork to ponder over.

And no, you can't edit the title of your post. You can however PM either theOcho or Avatea and ask them to change it for you. If you explain the mistake you made, they will likely not have a problem with changing it for you. Of course, they've likely gone home for the weekend so it would probably be Monday at the earliest before anything was done.
  8. *sigh*

First we get rednames that don't show up in either Digest (Tex and GPU).

Now we get a whitename showing up in the Dev Digest.

What next? They make some gibbering idiot with an attitude a member of the OCR team?

    Bah!

*the gibbering idiot with an attitude waves his cane at all the young whippersnappers as he exits stage right*
  9. Saying your drivers are all updated is fine. Not providing enough technical information for people to begin to look for problems is not fine. Calling out the Devs is not fine, and is in fact against the forum rules.

So give us some information to work with. I've seen The Television, Tex and GPU repeatedly ask people for basic information, and we have a tool that provides most of that info in an easy to read format. Download and run CoH Helper and paste the output of that into a reply here. Same for HiJackThis. That will give anyone that looks the information they need to begin to try to troubleshoot your issues.

And this isn't an official Technical Support or QA forum, it's mostly players helping players. Fitz made an obviously joking comment and you classify it as an insult and snide remark? I hate to say it but that's not a way to get other people to be willing to try to help you. His second line of text tells you what programs we need the output from and that without it it's pretty much rampant speculation. He closed with "Hopefully things get better for you." and yet you opened your post referring to "obvious insults and snide remarks"? If you'd responded to me with that type of post when I'm spending my free time trying to help you'd have hit my Ignore list pretty quickly. I love helping people and don't mind having to re-explain things that they didn't understand, but I won't tolerate people responding to me in a rude manner the way you did Fitz. There are plenty of appreciative and polite people that are willing to provide the requested information and work through the problems.

I decided to do two tests, one at the graphics that CoX thinks my computer can handle, and then one at absolute minimum. I have tried a few fixes (like a fresh install of CoX, clearing out my hardrive as I am on a laptop, and running it in safe mode) but none of them have fixed the problem. Typically the crash is accompanied by a massive spike in memory usage, usually around 3,000,000 k that is observed with the Windows Task Manager from a base line of around 1.5k.

    Test One:

---System information gathered by CoH Helper version 0.2.0.2---

    DxDiag gathered at May 21, 2010 15:11 (-05:00)
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_ldr.100218-0019)
    System Manufacturer: Sony Corporation
    System Model: VGN-NW150J
The latest drivers on the Sony website for your laptop are the drivers you have. You can try to install these drivers from the Intel website, but I don't know if Sony has done any tweaking on their laptop to not allow installation of any drivers except for Sony drivers (a common OEM practice unfortunately).

I do see another big problem, which is why I left the top portion of your CoH Helper report. You really, really need to upgrade to Vista Service Pack 2. You can do this through the Windows Updates on your computer, sometimes you have to install other updates before this one will show up, but you should make it a habit to install any security updates or recommended updates in the Windows Updates list. If needed, install what updates are shown, reboot, go back to Windows Updates, install what is shown, wash, rinse, repeat until no more updates are showing.

Or, you can at least install Vista Service Pack 2 for 64-bit systems using this link from Microsoft.

Yes. And as Father Xmas pointed out, not all of us know which veteran reward is which off the top of our head. Even those with 72 month rewards can't keep track of which particular reward does what all the time.

And you don't have to be a noob to not know how a particular feature works. I have no clue what month reward most of the costume options are attached to or whether there are coloring restrictions, mostly because they don't interest me much. Same with the Bonus Packs costume pieces.

You even stated that you didn't know if it was relevant but that you had just gotten your 18 month reward. It wasn't clear from your post which boots specifically you were referring to. Until the part labeled Update. I'd assume that was what you edited last since it would only make sense.

Nope. Especially not when recoding the product to work with poorly coded drivers may cause problems for people using products with properly coded drivers. Yes, they've been talking to ATI about the issues for some time, and several of us hoped that having Agent Ruby posting on the boards (albeit for a short time and apparently only for a promotional appearance) was going to bring much needed changes to the ATI drivers.

It didn't happen, but I still wouldn't want PS to recode the game and possibly break several systems that worked correctly since the drivers were not a problem. I run more than one computer at times, and if a change to accomodate poorly written ATI drivers breaks things that work with properly written nVidia drivers, I will be posting in favor of a patch rollback. And I suspect several others are in the same situation and would likely be joining in the call for a rollback.
  14. There is nothing in Service Pack 3 that would have caused problems. In fact, it is a recommended upgrade especially since Microsoft is ending support for Service Pack 2 on July 13.

Another problem with the integrated graphics is that many OEM's make changes to the chips and/or software so that only THEIR drivers will install. To make matters worse, they don't update their video drivers, especially for older computers. There is a slightly newer driver on the Sony site, but I doubt it will help as it is from April of 2005.

Looking at the Intel site, that chipset has been discontinued. The most recent drivers I can find there for Windows XP are from January of 2007. That's not a whole lot better than what you currently have, but it's the best possibility that I can see. It won't damage anything if Sony tweaked their system to not allow the manufacturer's drivers to install, they just won't install.

You can also try the Intel Driver Update Utility to see if it can find a better driver for your system.

If you can't update the drivers or if updating them doesn't resolve the problem because the drivers are so old, you still have a few options but they will cost a bit of money to upgrade your computer with a newer video card and possibly a better power supply. The Spec sheet for the computer shows it has an empty PCI Express x16 slot on the motherboard, so that gives you a reasonable graphics upgrade path.

There are a few caveats here. If you decide to upgrade the video card, it is EXTREMELY likely that you will also need to upgrade the power supply. However, I can't find any specs on the power supply about what it is rated at or it's dimensions, so I'm not sure if it is a standard sized power supply. Also, whatever video card you upgrade needs to be 9.05 inches long or shorter. Otherwise it won't fit. If you have a local computer shop, take your computer to them and ask them to check the size and rating of your power supply to see if a standard power supply will fit in your case. It should be relatively inexpensive to just look at it and get the sizing. If you have a computer savvy friend or know someone that does tech work on the side, they'll likely give you better pricing (and not be so bent on trying to sell you something you can't use).

If you decide to go the upgrade route, post back here with what you find out about your Power Supply (rating and dimensions) and the price range you can work with and some of the tech-heads here can likely point you in the right direction.
  15. Not that I've noticed. Not knowing what your rep was previously, it's a bit difficult to determine how much you were lowered.

If someone with a high rep gives you rep, positive or negative, it carries more weight than someone with a relatively low rep.

I've had rep comments adjust my numbers by 2 or 3 and I've also had them move it by over 30.

If you aren't a prolific poster, it's easier to check on your rep. Do a search for all posts you've made. Go to each of those posts. Click the scales icon at the bottom of the column under your name. It will show your rep, if any, on that post. I think it also gives an indication of whether it was a positive or negative rep and possibly how much. I'm not certain on the last one though, so don't quote me.

If you post as much as Bill Z Bubba or Zombie Man (just as a for instance) it's a lot harder to check on them since there are so many new posts each day, sometimes each hour.

If you go through checking your comments and find a particularly offensive one, PM one of the mods about it. Rep comments fall under the same rules as forum posts.
  16. Sure ... come to the forums instead of your tech savvy friends. I see how you are.

Easy fix. Copy the CoH Updater to your desktop. Don't create a shortcut, just copy and paste. Run that copy. Easy peasy.

I'm not sure what game you are playing, but the fix for the Respec crash is currently on the Test server, not Live.

The current version on Live is 1800.201003300904.20T5r (this has several fixes, but not the Respec crash) and the patch notes are here.

And that has absolutely nothing to do with what Pum described.

Pum already knows that I'd have tested it if it weren't for the fact that it's on those dirty villains. And with the one MM I have, it's still sitting in Breakout.
  19. Video drivers need to be updated. That is likely a large part of your problem.

You may need to use the ATI Mobility Modder to be able to install the drivers.
  20. That would be the Server Engineers.

By the by, there's a job opening for that position as well.
  21. Nicely done Bayani. I think you pretty much covered everything I had questions about as well as some things I hadn't considered.
  22. I use keybinds more than macros, so it takes me a bit to change gears. For macros, you don't start them with the / before the command.

For example, of the few macros I have on TJ (from targeting at a pre-I9 Hami Raid) I use the following format in the macro:

Request "really long message I didn't want to type repeatedly"

Of course, to create that macro it was as follows:

/macro 1st Request "really long message I didn't want to type repeatedly"

That created a button called 1st and when clicked, said what was in the quotes in the Request channel.

I know that chan_send is the command I used in my binds to start chatting in a particular channel, so in your example instead of using send you might want to try it with chan_send instead. I know that beginchat is supposed to start chat-entry mode with the given string.

I know there used to be a guide to macros, and I'd have thought it was in the Guide to Guides post.
  23. Have you tried starting with beginchat in the macros? I think all of mine are still working, but I'm not at a point that I can get in game and check on them.

I do recall seeing something at one point about the beginchat portion though.

    /em shrug
  24. Perhaps they were supposed to move and able to be targetted since the mission was introduced and finally that was corrected. Perhaps it was a risk/reward issue.

If you've been sending /bug reports on it for at least two Issues it is either deemed to be WAI or has a really really low priority for a fix, if they can even identify the source of the problem.
