  2. Are you in VG mode? That can cause odd color issues. If so, check your settings in the VG edit window.

Yep, I use to have a nVidia card but it burnt up hoping to get a new computer before the start of the new semester of school.

Yea both are installed but Avast is only active. Don't know how to get rid of McAfee and since I'm not subscribed I assume it's not active.

    Thank you for helping anyways.
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, you should be able to find the entry for StarDock, WindowBlinds, the nVidia video drivers, and McAfee. If there is no entry for the nVidia video card, you can download Driver Sweeper and run it in Windows Safe Mode to remove the nVidia display drivers and such. Be careful not to uninstall the Aegia PhysX card software when you do that.

Sorry I couldn't offer a better solution but cleaning some of these up should help in general.

It's possible, but since Lasher mentioned that they didn't have access to reboot the router I assumed that they don't have access to the configuration of the router either.

Not knowing anything about the router (brand, model, etc) I don't know if they would need to forward the new UDP ports or not.

In a little over 6 years of playing the game and going through 4 different routers (minimum, I'm not counting work routers) I've never had to forward any ports on my routers to get things to work. Some people do need to forward the ports, but they have to have access to the configuration pages to do that.
  5. Oh yeah. You have several instances of CoH running in the background. Try rebooting the computer completely to unload those extra instances and start fresh.

Well, the first problem is your onboard graphics solution and it's drivers. Dell has a newer driver available, unfortunately it's not much better being from July of 2006.

You can try to install the newest Intel driver for your card using the Intel Driver Update Utility from the Intel site. That's not going to do much good either though since the newest driver for that card is from 2007. You're basically out of luck for up to date drivers for that old of a chipset.

Also, your free space on your hard drive is at 13%. Windows can do some really weird things when it gets under 20%. I'd recommend freeing up some space and defragmenting your hard drive.

As for your HiJackThis log .... well ... I'm going to leave most of that to someone else. I'll mention a few things that stand out to me but I'd recommend posting that log on one of the sites that specializes in analyzing HJT logs.

First, I see that the Stardock is still running. This is from the same company that makes WindowBlinds and could be sharing some of the same code.

Second, even though your CoH helper shows you have an Intel video chipset, I see entries for the nVidia video card drivers in your HJT log.

Third, you have a LOT of programs running at startup. Way too many that don't need to be running all the time.

Fourth, I see entries for both Avast and McAfee. Do you have two anti-virus products installed? That can cause conflicts. If you have Firewalls enabled on either of those, make sure that the CoH folder and executables are set as exceptions in your firewall.

The rest is way more than I'm able to deal with. Hopefully someone with a lot more HJT knowledge will stop in and help with that.
  7. If you are running Vista or Windows 7, be sure to right-click on the CoH Helper file and select Run as Administrator.

I'd recommend doing the same with HiJackThis when you click on the shortcut for it.

Good to see that you aren't on a school or work connection. That will likely narrow things down for troubleshooting.

    Strange shadows

I believe that's a buffer issue. It's quite possible that some images are not getting flushed from the video buffers and are carrying over into CoH.

The only things I can see from your CoH Helper report are that you should update to Service Pack 3 and you should really free up some space on the hard drives. Windows does some really odd things when the free space gets to that low of a percentage. When some of the pieces of Windows were originally written we had much smaller drives available so rather than write them looking at the actual size of the free space in Mb or Gb, they were written to look at the % of free space instead. Since the game is installed to the C: drive that is the one I'd concentrate on freeing up space on. Ideally, you want at least 20% free space if not more. Once you get some space freed up, defrag the drives as well. You'll likely need to free up space to be able to install SP3 anyway and possibly to be able to defrag the drive.
  9. You don't have to be able to get to the login screen to run either of those programs. In fact, it's best if you DON'T have CoH running when you run them. The programs will give us most of the information we need about the game settings, your computer specs and any other software that may be running while you are gaming.

Just run them and paste the output into posts here.

As far as the ISP, what I'm trying to find is if you are on Dial-up, Cable, DSL, Satellite, a Wireless ISP, a school campus, a business network or what? If it's a business or school connection, you may be out of luck. They made a change in some of the ports used by the game and they may be blocked. Avatea made a post about it in this section and it can be found in the stickies under the name UDP port range changes. Or, you could just click that link.

    CoH crashing

Issue 17 was a major graphical update. Old video drivers were known to cause problems during testing. Luckily, you have an actual video card and not some onboard graphics solution like some players do. I'd recommend the 10.5 drivers since they are the newest and seem to be quite stable with the game and XP.

Also, make sure that your Catalyst Control Center settings are the same as your in-game graphics settings. I'm referring to things like Anti-Aliasing settings, Anisotropic Filtering settings, etc. I've found that setting them to "Application controlled" works best for me. YMMV

EDIT: One of the benefits of Ultra Mode (the graphical update) is that they finally got rid of the main problems that ATI users had previously. You should be able to increase your graphics settings to give you a better visual experience without lowering your framerate.
  11. Not enough information to accurately troubleshoot.

First, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Then, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

What type of ISP do you have? Do you use a router or not? Is your computer using a wired or wireless connection?

    Targeting Drone

I loaded up TJ (Fire/Dev) to check and I can see the Targeting Drone. I can even see it faintly when I turn on Cloaking Device.

I then loaded up my Arch/Dev blaster and can see the Targeting Drone.
  13. Are you by chance in SuperGroup mode?

If so, check your color settings in the SuperGroup setup window.

Well, if you don't want help resolving the problems you are having, I won't waste my time here.

Apparently you just want to complain.

    Carry on without me.

If you look at the Going Rogue site, you'll see that the release has been changed to Summer 2010. Summer doesn't end until somewhere around September 21 or 22.

As for what you would like to know, well, the answers haven't changed in 6 years. They send invites to Betas on their timetable, not ours, and they usually don't announce their plans for them.

In 6 years of playing the game on three different versions of Windows, I've never had the Microsoft error dialog pop up on a crash. I've had the games error box pop up asking what I was doing when the crash occured, but never the Microsoft error reporting message.
  18. My suggestion would be, if this is a serious thread and not some showing off of photoshop skills or demoedit skills, to do the following:

    1. Reboot the computer.
    2. Defrag the hard drive. Defraggler will even let you defrag specific folders and is free.
    3. Lauch the updater but don't click Next. Instead, click the Verify All Files button.
    4. Once all of the files are verified, enter the game.
    5. If the problem is resolved, go to the first sentence after the numbers. If the problem persists, file a /bug report and take several screenshots to post to Photobucket or ImageShack and put a link to the folder on whichever site you choose in the response section on the support website.
    6. Delete the Piggs folder in the game folder on your computer and then launch the game again and let it download clean versions of the pigg files.
    7. If the problem is resolved, go to the first sentence after the numbers. If the problem persists, back up your CoH installation folder then uninstall and reinstall the game.

If the people that had previous threads similar to this (that Aggelakis mentioned) reported this as a bug, it may give the QA team enough data to be able to figure out what causes it and they may have a solution.
  19. Support isn't making this a minor issue to deal with.

They keep asking questions that were explicitly answered in the original /petition.

They've replaced the missing items with Enhancements to account for the items attached to mails in my global inbox that expired after they were 30 days old. Enhancements that are NOT my Origin and so far above my level that all I can do is sell them. That is NOT replacing the items that were deleted, it's just being too lazy to check the database backups and logs to see what was actually deleted and replace it. I realize they are likely swamped due to this enormous mistake in deleting emails without informing us PRIOR to the deletions that there was a time limit, but that's no excuse for not replacing what was deleted with the items that were deleted.

It certainly didn't help my attitude much when the GM "suggested" in the response that I not try to use the email system as storage. If he'd read the initial /petition he'd have known that wasn't the case, but I guess he's following the pattern of the previous GM's that responded by asking questions already answered in the /petition.

On top of that, they made some type of mistake and had to log in to my character to correct it, so they reset my password. Now I've had to change the password that I've used for 6 years since it doesn't follow the current password requirements. It's been valid for all this time, but now it's not valid? Thanks, that won't cause me any hassles trying to log in to an account that's been active since before the game launched.

As SoyLeyenda pointed out the announcement was ... well ... not well worded. It implied we'd been doing something wrong instead of admitting that they made an error by not informing us of the 30-day time limit in advance and another error by deleting the emails and attachments without any notice. Oddly enough, if the email doesn't have an attachment it will apparently stay there until you delete it, so it isn't just that all emails are deleted, only those with attachments. I've spoken to several players that still have year old spam in their mailbox that hasn't been deleted. Nice "feature" they added here. As for the wording of the announcement, I too found it a bit offensive in that it implied we did something wrong. The current OCR team seems more interested in putting effort into their forum games of Word Search and photo captions than in effectively communicating with the players. Effective communications involve making sure that your "announcements" don't sound like you are blaming the players for doing something wrong because the OCR team or the Devs forgot to tell anyone there was a time limit until after items were deleted.

I've been a staunch supporter of the game since before the redesign, and have been categorized as a fanboi by some. I still love the game and the players, but the support team, the Dev team and the OCR team have seriously dropped the ball on this one. I guess it's to their benefit that my account is paid through September and Going Rogue is already pre-purchased.
  20. To further expand on what je_saist said in the last line:

Don't just push on the cards and connectors to make sure they are seated fully. Unplug the connectors or remove the cards and then fully reseat them. Same thing with memory.

There have been many times I've had people bring me computers to work on that they swore they'd checked the connections, and that all of the cards were fully seated but when I did a simple removal and reseating it fixed their issue.

Yes, they were emails sent to myself.

Possibly that old, I'm not really certain. I mailed some inf and Inspirations to myself so that I could drop them on an alt, forgot to claim them on the alt since his slots were full and just never got around to grabbing them. Had I known there was a 30 day limit on emails, I'd have claimed them sooner. I just didn't bother thinking they were going to be there since I've had other emails stored for over a year before I deleted them. Never saw any mention of a limit in any patch notes or Dev comments in either Beta or since the system went Live. There is also no mention of it on the website in the Issue 17 Overview. It does talk about the cap of 20 emails but no mention is made of a time limit on claiming the attachments.

Nope, mailbox had only those few emails in it at the time. Probably somewhere between 7 and 15 emails.

And before anyone pops off about the email system not being intended as a storage form, that wasn't what I was doing. I was going into a tough mission so sent some large inspirations from another character to have them available if needed. Wound up not needing them and inventory was full so couldn't claim them at the time, then haven't played that character much since so kept forgetting to claim them. I was using the system as intended, to email items to myself and not for storage, just never got in a rush to dump my inventory and claim them since we hadn't been told there was any time constraint on the emails.

Now, a few questions for Arbiter Oates since he's asking us questions that bring possible new information to us:

All of that being said, are you telling us that there is a time limit on the emails or just asking how long they'd been there?

If there is a time limit and we haven't been told about it before now, what course of action do you propose to return those items to us?

Had we been informed of the time limit I'm fairly certain that most of us would have not left the items in the system that long.

EDIT: I hadn't even noticed they were gone until now since I've been a bit too busy to play much and when I have been on it's been mostly on characters with the email turned off so I won't see the red EMAIL text at the top of the window.
  22. The 10.2's have had problems with UM since they came out. I'd recommend upgrading to the 10.5's or at least the 10.4's to see if that makes a difference.
  23. All of those Unknown entries in the CoH Helper report bother me greatly.

Did you right-click on CoH Helper and select Run as Administrator? If not, please run it that way and post a fresh copy of the output.

If you did run it that way, please run HiJackThis and paste the log of the results.
