If you put a check mark in the box Remember Account Name on the login screen you can move your characters around and it will stick.
It writes the character order to a file in your game directory and then reads that file when you login IF you have that checked. The reason that the Remember Account Name has to be checked is because the file playerslots.txt is stored in a directory named the same as your Account Name. For example, if my Account Name were TechGuru there would be a directory inside my CoH directory called TechGuru and it would contain a file called playerslots.txt that lists the characters and what slot number that name should be in.
Normally, the characters are listed in the order they are created but that can change if you delete a character or two and then create a new character in that slot.
Since they put in the capability to move the character order around I haven't had my characters change places on the screen. I had seen it previously and I assumed it was just a database lookup problem getting them mixed up.
Why they didn't write that feature so that it doesn't require you to check that box and instead just look for the directory by that Account Name when you log in is beyond me. It's possible that they tried to do that but couldn't get it to work right. I really don't know. I just know how it does work so I leave it at that. -
That means it's being bumped to Account Support. I'm not sure what time they get to work in Austin, but I know that they only take phone calls from 12 Noon to 5 PM. Hopefully they are spending the earlier parts of the day clearing up email items, things that came in on support tickets, etc.

Better hurry if you want to buy tickets to PAX.
The 3 day badge is already sold out as is the Saturday badge. The Friday badges and Sunday badges are still showing available, but there's no telling for how long.
In other words, with the CoH Panel being set for Saturday and the Meet & Greet set for Saturday, you can't buy tickets to PAX that will cover that particular day. -
I'd take a 5850 over the 260M any day of the week.

I have the Razer Naga, for now, due to the contest. The scroll wheel behaves normally in CoH.
Not sure I'll keep the mouse, not really that impressed with it. Then again, I'm not big on fancy mice or keyboards in the first place.
I'll likely have some type of contest on FB or Twitter to see which of my friends wins it. After all, if FB and Twitter are good enough for CoH contests they should be good enough for something won in a CoH contest. -
steveb, RivaTuner and the variants are a program designed specifically for the nVidia cards. They don't run with ATI cards.

It's open. I logged in with no problems.

When FF kept giving me the "connection has been reset" message last night, I took it as an indication that I needed to get away from the computer for a while.
Getting to sleep early didn't work well, my body refused to cooperate and I laid awake tossing and turning for a few more hours until my "normal" bedtime. -
Sounds like a good slogan. Even if you make a goof like changing mid-stream from a Pre-Order plan to a Pre-Purchase plan, when players repeatedly ask for clarification about how it's going to affect your previously stated Beta Tiers just give them an answer. Publicly, just like the previously stated Beta Tiers announcement. That way you don't cause continual problems like this one.

Looks like your CoH Helper output got cut off as it's only about half there. Please post it again.
If it's only one character now in a particular zone, see if another character can get to that zone okay without locking up. If that one locks up, file a /petition using the Stuck option and let them know that Steel Canyon on the Defiant server seems to be a black hole zone and that you have two characters there. Give the character names and ask them to move them to another zone.
If the second character going to Steel doesn't lock up just file a /petition using the Stuck option and give the character name and state that he is in Steel Canyon on Defiant and that you are unable to log in to that character but can log in to others and go to Steel Canyon. Then ask that that character be moved to another zone. -
Sounds like a corrupted video driver installation.
First thing, reboot the comupter and try again.
If it still does it, download the most current drivers for your video card and Driver Sweeper. Install Driver Sweeper but don't run it. Don't install the drivers yet.
Uninstall the video card drivers and any associated software from the Add/Remove Programs in XP or from the Programs and Features in Vista or Win7.
Reboot into Safe Mode and cancel any Installation windows that open. Run Driver Sweeper and have it remove the nVidia Display remnants and anything associated with the nVidia disply such as PhysX drivers, etc. Make sure you don't uninstall chipset drivers, network drivers or anything like that. They should be clearly labeled in Driver Sweeper. Reboot when it finishes and load into Windows normally.
Cancel any Installation windows that come up and then install the drivers you downloaded before starting this. After the reboot you should be fine.
If not, post the results of CoH Helper and HiJackThis logs so we can see what we are working with. -
I would say it.
One of the teacher's came on campus the other day and saw me walking down the hall. She asked me what I'd done to hurt myself. I was puzzled until she said I was walking like I was injured. My only response was "48 years old and having been run over a school bus will do that to you."
Unfortunately, neither part of that answer was joking.
I've noticed that I'm moving a lot slower but didn't realize how it was affecting my walking and how I stand until she brought it up.
Ah well, getting old sucks but it beats the alternative. -
Scooped by M-B as I was typing it up. Guess I'm just old and slow.

You can create two different shortcuts to launch the game and on the Target line you can specify the resolutions and then use one shortcut for the laptop's screen and one for when the Desktop monitor.
I'm leaving work now and don't have the commands handy, but I'll look them up as soon as I get home and if someone hasn't given the commands I'll reply here with them.
There may be a windowsave and windowload command that can set your window sizes after logging in but I'll have to research that more to see if it's just a default file or if it will let you specify different files. -
Quote:Since you are getting the same problem as the OP and he DOESN'T have an ATI card, that is evidently not the entirety of the problem.well it is not a overheating issues cos i have the same problem and my graphic card has water cooling but i have been told it is a OpenGL problem with ATI cards
What drivers are you using for your ATI Card? Which ATI card do you have? What Operating System are you running (Including Service Packs and whether it is a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version)? Those would be more telling of where the problem actually lies. -
nVidia makes the chipset and I believe provides a reference design for the cards but doesn't actually make and distribute video cards. ATI does the same. They partner with various card manufacturers that make and distribute the cards using their chipsets, often tweaking clock speeds, offering different cooling methods or other minor changes or even tossing in various software packages with the cards. Those are the manufacturer's names that you are seeing. XFX has a really good warranty program and good cards, ASUS cards are generally well made, the EVGA cards seem to be rated well although I've not used them.
I've gone more to the ATI cards of late since they generally outperform the same level of nVidia chipset in CoH, they generally use less power than comparable nVidia cards and often run much cooler as well. -
Glad you got it working Leandro.
As I read your post and saw the IP address I checked my own trace route and saw a different IP and was going to let you know what I was getting but kept reading and saw that you figured it out.
Hopefully, this information will help other players that are having similar issues.
Instead of using Google's DNS as you do I often set mine to use a Level 3 DNS of 4.2.2.1 or 4.2.2.2 and always can tell if it's a DNS issue due to that. Level 3 is one of the top-level domains and a CLEC and their DNS servers seems to be updated much more regularly than most ISP's DNS server or even Google's DNS servers. Actually, the 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.6 addresses are all DNS servers owned by Level 3.
You can add more than 2 DNS servers in XP and up, so I keep mine set to use my ISP's DNS servers as the Primary and Secondary then add additional DNS servers using the Advanced settings to keep 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 as my fallback DNS servers now. If the first two fail to resolve the address then usually one of the fallbacks will resolve it. If it doesn't resolve, then I know that the problem is worse and I go from there. -
Have you tried flushing the DNS cache Leandro? It may be holding some bad data. It looks like something may be holding a bad route at the hop after it leaves the telefonica network.
Of course, if the latter is the case you'll have to wait until it's fixed at that hop. -
I'm having no problems accessing the NCSoft site, My account pages or the Store site.
What country are you in?
What Operating System are you using? (will help if needing to give instructions). -
That GT 320 is likely an onboard chip and not an actual graphics card. Also, it's in the low end of the 300 series and not designed for gaming. Something in the 200 or 400 series with a x60 or higher or an ATI 5770 or higher would be a better choice for gaming and being able to run the graphics pretty much maxxed out.

Has anyone heard from Con lately? I miss his posts.

Quote:Then this should pacify you.i dunno about everyone else, but knowing that they are AWARE of an issue and trying to fix it is good for me *shrug* even if they don't give specifics on the issue. i don't like being left hanging to simply -hope- things will get better. *shrug* and while i realize the game hasn't always been stable nor will it likely ever, i still want to feel my devs and tech team care >.>;; this recent issue has been fairly bad compared to some other times. and certainly more consistently bad. i think the issue here for most is simple peace of mind....
