  1. What I do is keep a backup of the entire CoH directory.

If I need to reinstall, or install on a new computer, I can use these steps:

Install the NCSoft Launcher (I don't use the default directory, I install it to C:\Games\NCSoft)

Once the Launcher is installed I start the download of the game and point it to the directory I want the game installed to (Again, I don't use the default directory, I install it to C:\Games\CoH)

After letting it run a minute or so I stop the installer

I close the Launcher then copy over my backup to the directory I installed to (C:\Games\CoH in my case)

Once the files finish copying, I restart the Launcher, right-click on the CoH entry and select Repair (Consistency Check).

This speeds up my download time and I have all of my logs, screenshots, custom costumes and characters for AE, missions for AE, etc.

I do the same for Beta and Test installs and keep backups of all three installations for cases such as this.

I hate to tell you this Zwhoopsydaisy but most women I know HATE being referred to as broad.

They also hate when you refer to any part of their anatomy as broad.

Oh wait, you meant broad in the sense of "not limited or narrow; of extensive range or scope".

    Nevermind then.

    Carry on.
  3. D'oh, totally missed the Redside part of the title.

Editing my post above to reflect that.

EDIT: Oddly enough, the ParagonWiki entry for Lastri Kayumanis says that you need to complete the Tip mission A Window of Opportunity before you can begin the arc. Time for me to test what the truth is on one of my few villains I guess. Do premiums that haven't bought access to the Alignment system have access to Tips?

EDIT Part Deux: Okay, that's odd, talking to Lashtri tells me that I have to complete the Tip mission first. Looking at my Tip window, I don't see it listed. But, going through the Signature Story Arcs entry on the Contacts tab allows me to get to the Begin Prologue entry that selects that Tip mission. Really strange design there.
  4. You can also narrow it down to a specific forum or forum section if you are looking for something specific.

For example, if it's something I know I saw in Announcements, I'll narrow it down to that forum section by clicking on it on the Advanced Search page.

Or in the alternative, I'd click on the News, Events & Announcements section in that list to get results from the Announcements and the Discussions sections.

I've seldom had to use Google to search these forums effectively. I had more trouble with the search on the old UBB forums than I have on these vBulletin forums.
  5. If you are VIP (and unless the forum software is being wonky and showing your name in goldenrod when you aren't VIP) just open your Contacts tab. At the top is the Signature Story Arcs entry.

Click the button labeled Access. It will open an entry allowing you to select SSA #1 (Who Will Die) or SSA #2 (Pandora's Box). Clicking the entry to Access Volume 2 will open another window. To start the first Episode click the Begin Episode 1 entry.

That will open the dialog allowing you to accept the mission and start it.

The contact is Lastri Kayumanis in Sharkhead.
  6. While their FB post may have mentioned animators, none of the job postings on that page are for animators (in the job title or description).
  7. It also allows you to post on all the forum sections, not just the four sections labelled ALL ACCESS.

This includes the Justice forum section. The only really important one.

Also keeps all of your characters available to play.
  8. I'd love to take a trip to Vegas.

Unfortunately, finances don't agree with me.

If finances had allowed it, I'd have been in Vegas the last week of June.

    But teaming? Not tempting enough.

Now, standard code rant applies, but how about this -

1} You decide to "reinvent" a character. Something happened and, while they're still the same person in terms of history and accomplishments, they need to start over from scratch.

2} You're taken to the character creation screen, and go through the process of creating a new character - different archetype, powerset, even name or side if you want. The original character still exists in the database for now.

3} Once you complete the reinvention process, you're asked one last time {I suggest the "Type in your original character name" type confirmation you get from standard character deletion} if you're sure you want to go through with it. Once it's completed, the database retrieves the historical data from the old character - badges, contacts and souvenirs come to mind, temporary powers... probably not, for balance's sake - and inserts it into the database block for the new character. Once that happens, the original character is deleted entirely, and irrevocably, ceding its space in the player's character roster and the character database itself to the reinvented character.

As for why the devs might want to do this, well... it would make players who are attached to their accomplishments happy, and they might be able to charge for the service.
Well, the name is the unique identifier in the server database, so you can't have two records with the same name on the same server. That's why there aren't two characters on the same server with the same name. That's not a trivial obstacle to overcome.

And from your example you lose any enhancements slotted in the character? Possibly quite a bit of time invested or at least inf invested in those enhancements. What if the person doesn't have Enhancement space to hold the Enhancements that the new character can't use?

There's a lot you aren't accounting for. The Devs have to account for all of those things. Trying to find a way to handle them isn't trivial.

    linux client

People are already running CoH on Linux and have been since shortly after launch (if not during beta).

It's still highly doubtful that they'll ever list it as a supported Operating System.
  11. I haven't seen any NCSoft job postings, so I don't know what they require. But we aren't talking about NCSoft, we are talking about Paragon Studios. Yes, they are a part of NCSoft but they are their own studio and have their own hiring system.

I have seen quite a few Paragon Studios job postings and I've never seen one that required a degree in Game Development or any other degree unless it was on a line that included the phrase "or equivalent experience" or "or equivalent professional experience".

Going by the current postings on their Careers page, only 3 of the 10 list a degree or equivalent experience in the Qualifications / Requirements section. Those three are Sr. Server Engineer, Client Engineer (Next Gen MMO) and User Interface Engineer (Next Gen MMO). Sure, I can see where one of the Engineer positions might list a degree as being desirable, but even then it's qualified with the phrase "or equivalent experience".

None of the postings that include Art in the name of the position list a degree or equivalent experience in the Qualifications / Requirements section.

There is only one position with Engineer in the name of the position that doesn't list a degree or equivalent experience in the Qualifications / Requirement section and that is Sr. Engineer.

I'm not certain since I've never asked them specifically about it but I think there are several Devs with Paragon Studios that don't have a degree in Game Development.

So, there goes your "it's a matter of principle" argument with regard to requiring a degree.

No, their Careers page isn't currently listing anything with Animation in the name of the position, but what would it hurt to send in your resume and maybe list some of your ideas. Or apply for another position that you might meet the qualifications for and prove your worth to the company then pitch your ideas.

Alternatively, start up conversations with some of the Devs that post here that deal with Animation. Honey Badger comes to mind immediately of the current team. Perhaps through discussions of ideas you might pique his interest enough that they consider hiring you on a temp contract that could turn into something more long term.
  12. Since my accounts are currently active, I can't see it.

It may show on the Game Account details page or on the Billing Summary page.

I've looked on all of the pages, but since they are VIP I'm not seeing the same things I saw as Free (Premium).
  13. Belated Happy Birthday wishes to you Warboss. I've been ... off the forums for a bit.

Nope, not a ban, just busting my hump trying to get computers on campus upgraded before the staff returns.

PROTIPS: Type the first few letters of the name and find the name in the drop down list. For example type "Hit " (without the quote, they are there to show the space after Hit) and select Hit Streak (first entry on the list). Type Zwil and his name is the only result. You have to get to freit to make the short list.

Also, you can go to the Community Digest, select one of their posts, click their name in the box on the left and select "Send a private message to" and you can do it without having to spell their name at all.

and also I just finished a 5 minute animation a few months back, It was for a friend's final graduation assignment in university, she passed.

also, the devs are business men and women, if something free comes allong and offers to do things that they think would take a lot of time, believe you me they'll take it.

to be honest I can make the whip all on my own, animations included.
How much experience do you have working with the Cryptic engine that this game uses?

When people with actual experience with the game engine and the animation system tell me that it's quite a bit of work and difficult to do in this game, I'll take their word over ANYONE that hasn't.

If you think you can do better than the people that are working on the game or have worked on it in the past, go for it. Apply at Paragon Studios and implement all of your ideas.

  17. Organica, you've finally gotten me interested in actually looking at the market and how to make it work for me.

You think he should take Castle out? What about poz? He's been gone even longer.

I believe Shannon Posniewski is still at Cryptic Studios and the last I heard his title was Principal Programmer.

He came to work on the game around the time they were doing their reboot in early 2003 and finishing the game before launch. He's responsible for designing and implementing the combat system, chief designer of the UI interface as well as some of the side systems in the game such as vendors, rewards, badges, plaques and more. (I'm not sure what all he worked on for CO but I believe his title on that was Executive Producer. I'm sure he had a lot of input on the code in that game as well.)

Actually, I'd say neither Castle nor poz should be removed from the flowchart as they probably have as deep of an understanding of the game code as anyone currently working at the studio.

Especially when it comes to determining the difficulty of a change to the game code.

Mostly because we have no fingers.
  22. Positron said something on one of the uStream chats (I think that's what it was) somewhere around the time that Freedom launched (shortly before or just after IIRC).

I don't recall the exact wording but the gist of his comment was that they'd looked at AT respecs and Powerset respecs and that it would require too much work to ever be likely to happen for AT respec and for the powerset respec it would be so much work that he had no idea what they'd have to charge for that option to make it worthwhile to even begin to start on such a project. Much of that is because of how the core of the game is built around the initial AT and powerset selections.

And that's to say nothing of what they've said over the years about this concept invalidating their design and replayability of the game through alting.

    VIP to Free.

It may not be a full 10 slots. You also likely have a few granted slots from yearly rewards in addition to the purchased slots. You might get 2 for having GR, but I can't recall what they said on that as it's been over a year ago.

Yes, you can choose which slots to open.
