Quote:You shouldn't be buying anything a second time. When you bought Going Rogue, you should have received an account code. That account code needs to be entered through the ncsoft website (added to your CoH account), assuming you still have it and have not used it already. No account activation has ever gone through steam; steam just launched the CoH client.Hi, I bought City of Heroes: Going Rogue on steam before it went free to play (It was the full CoH game + the expansion). Now that I can finally play, I made an NC account and CoH account, to find that I have to buy going rogue again to access City of Villains. I feel like I just got screwed. AM I SUPPOSED TO BUY THIS A SECOND TIME!? Please reply, someone. I spent a good chunk of my money on this, and bought a copy for my friend. I finally get to play, and I don't even have the full thing I paid for. VERY frustrating.

Kind of like the UVA pep band: "The Award-Winning Virginia Fighting Cavalier Indoor/Outdoor Precision(?) Marching Pep Band, & Chowder Society Review, Unlimited!!!. " I believe at one point they were banned from the stadium and would play just outside the gates.

Quote:First of all, streetweeping perez park (the original farming hotspot) is a wonderfully easy way to score tons of Luck Charms. Second, the new player has to have money to buy the recipe and craft it. Eliminating a straightforward and relatively fast revenue-generator like that for them doesn't seem so helpful. Third, in the time it could take to slot out with all 15's, the new player will likely be getting higher level DO and SO drops.I just want the lowbe to have a shot at crafting that shiny lvl 15 Accuracy recipe that they pickpocketed from a thug they just mugged before sending him to the Zig.
I think crafting a bunch of the level 15 and 20 IOs, then auctioning them for cheap would be far more useful. -

I'll sign up as an alternate - I haven't really played in....months

Chaulk it up to really good marketing and a good book -- I really, really wanted to like it, but felt the movie was underwhelming...probably due to the hype machine. It felt very clipped/overly edited, making it feel superficial. I can easily see people who have no familiarity with the story saying, "so what..."
-
It's been stated a few times, but I'll also recommend it -- John Carpenter's The Thing. It's truly a phenomenal movie without much gore (except for one scene...you'll know it ; ' )
Paranormal Activity has a nice slow build that's entertaining, assuming you really get engrossed in a film. No gore.
The Descent is a very claustraphobic film, a bit of blood if I recall.
The Mist (Thomas Jane/based on a Stephen King story) was great, again if you can immerse yourself in a film. -
Aside from really amazing work, it's fun to see the progression from concept to what is now near-completion. As someone lacking that skillset, it really creates a sense of appreciation.
Again, great job! -
Quote:Lothic, I'd actually say that what The Walking Dead is doing and has done so far has been undermining the kind of ensemble character work that made Lost so successful. I bring this up specifically because of the "island" reference. I think fans of Lost could agree that the show was prone to stumbles when the exploration of the mystery as to the island's purpose became more important than the characters stranded on it. Even though The Walking Dead hasn't turned the zombies' origins into a great mystery to be explored, it's become clear that the writers want mystery-induced drama to maintain a presence (Jenner's whisper, the ominous barn, etc). The problem here is that we aren't given the same quality of characterization and presentation to forgive the lack of delving into the background mysteries or the blatant introduction and wringing out of those mysteries.Quote:It's funny that someone took the "bait" of my indirect Lost reference. I suppose I can now shock you by admitting that I never bothered to watch even a single episode of that show.
I'm hoping that the Walking Dead, although the comic series is still ongoing, will have a more fleshed out plot line with a definitive ending, much like Breaking Bad has an ending set for its final season (season 5 starting soon!). -
Quote:Don't let it bug you -- Daryl saw the tracks but Shane was intentionally trying to throw everyone off by pointing and suggesting a different direction. They split into pairs and around nightfall, Glen and Daryl return to the starting spot, to which Glen states as much. Daryl's response is to the effect of "Might as well do it the right way", meaning following the tracks.Daryl is coming off more and more like the genius in the group. (Though why he couldn't find anything to track when it was daylight and then could track at night bugged me...)
So, now my question for the group. The shot was fuzzy, but was the zombie that attacked Glen and Daryl actually a zombi-fied Randall? I couldn't tell and then the next shot of them is Daryl kneeling over the corpse stating it looks like he died of a broken neck only.
If that's the case, then we can create another hypothesis for turning without a bite-- it's passed through blood. Randall had cut up his wrists trying to escape the cuffs and then we have Shane bloodying/breaking his own nose, thereafter wiping at it. This would explain why we don't necessarily see every person who died from a non-bite simply popping up as well as the accelerated ressurrection.
Making Shane the Leader right yet again, and Rick the Leader wrong (as opposed to delusional Shane the man). -
Quote:I would assume Molaro (78 episodes) or Prady (105 episodes). other than Lorre, the other folks don't have nearly as many credits and I assume Lorre would not be a gamer (based on stereotyping alone.)Wikipedia gives the writing credits for the episode:
Story: Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Tara Hernandez
Teleplay: Steven Molaro, Eric Kaplan and Steve Holland
From its presence on the show, one of these people must play CoH. They may also read the forums.
Step forward to accept kudos and you will not be harmed.

I've never really been into the Big Bang Theory, but that quote may have just done it (more for the Grand Theft Auto humor than the COH reference, admittedly). Time to hit up the netflix.

Quote:I would lke to take this moment to emphatically recommend Breaking Bad. The Walking Dead is pretty good, Dexter is better, but Breaking Bad is the best and the coming season will be the final one.PS: Walking Dead is literally the only NEW show I've picked up in the last few years that I salvate to watch the next episode of......last time it was season 1 Heroes.....
Quote:Also, I wish they'd go ahead and shoot Shane. I can't stand arrogant 'alpha males' like him. I really enjoyed this episode.
So, I'm seeing things from Lothic's point of view and have been thinking about it for a short while since catching a thread about who you would want to lead the group... Rick, Shane, Hershel, or Dale.- Dale most certainly represented Civilization with a big C. Justice and Humanity. Unfortunately, justice and humanity, that higher-level philosophy/outlook, is a luxury that one simply can't afford when very basic survival is on the line. A generation of men have to make compromises in order to sow the seeds of "civility". Dale's death most certainly represented the end of civilization as we know it (and it died horribly).
- Hershel was pretty much a good Samaritan with misplaced values in regards to the Walkers. He's not a leader, but simply a guy with resources (for now).
- Shane adapted to the new world quickly. Dale said something to the effect of "You're perfect for this world" and I think that was an unfair characterization, especially considering how Shane was portrayed as keeping the group together. When Andrea claimed, "you're decisions are mostly good, it's just how you go about it that is problematic" was far more appropriate. Something that was bothersome was how quickly everyone latched onto the "Shane killed Otis" theory, which is really all it was and it felt very mechanical. Until Daryl's comment that Shane came back with Otis' gun, there really wasn't any reason to give credence to that line of thinking. As an audience, we knew more, but the characters in the story really didn't. Shane does have flaws, like his obsession with Lori, but as a leader, his judgement give the circumstances is pretty sound.
- Rick somehow took over leadership of the group as soon as he arrived and that was annoying, especially given the wishy-washiness he presented. I'm assuming Shane must have been a deputy to Rick and that structure just fell into place, with everyone falling into line behind Shane's lead. The problem is that Rick got people killed. He's wishywashy, slow to decide, and making decisions for the group based on what he feels is right for his family. Ultimately, Rick does the things that Shane would do, alebit with more deliberation.
Darryl's whineness/passive-aggressiveness -- he's feeling a bit like the Boba Fett of the group (an ancillary character with moments of "coolness"); I think he survived because he had his big brother looking out for him (Merl? -- the guy that cut off his hand to escape the roof).
Lori bugs me as much as everyone else I think. I think the characterization that she's the self-entitled queen of the group is pretty much on the mark. I applaud her attitude that they need to try and keep the "home life" going, but I also question her mothering ability since Carl seems to be everywhere he shouldn't be. What does she do with her day?
Which leads me to the group. Cattle break through the fence and none of them are doing a single thing to help out--that's a food source the group will need, especially if stocks are thin already. Sure, someone keeps watch and occasionally you see the women help cook a dinner, but if the group is committed to staying at the farm, why aren't they actually working. I know Hershel recognizes the importances of having guards after the encounter at the bar, but he should be asking more people to step up, especially given the losses he's suffered to his family who helped maintain the farm.
Anyway, I'm enjoying the show -- For now I find it more compelling to watch and see what happens next. Hopefully it doesn't turn into another Heroes, although without a set ending already in place, I can see it fading away. -
Quote:Well, I wasn't thinking about comparison so much -- more just that after you get that first 50, life usually gets a little better in terms of your inf making ability and that typically translates across the viability to enhance all of your toons, i.e. your entire gaming experience.Texarkana:
"I don't want to be rich, as long as I can live comfortably and have everything I need."
If you're concerned about your economic standing ("How I measure up to others") there may be some inability to make progress.
If you're concerned about acquiring five sets of Kinetic Combat, though, I don't think it's ever been easier.
in totally different news, I typo'd "Texarcana" and now I may have to get the gunfighter costume package.
And, yes, I have thought about the a Texarcana variant for a magic based hero too, but I've stuck with the "k" variety. Get the gunslinger set, it's nice and will get a bit better as more pieces get proliferated too ( ' : -
Quote:I think it is, significantly, until atleast Tuesday. And, then longterm, once stock is exhausted, the "not-so-good" purples will rise to that 300m watermark, with the "good" purples rising even higher, but no where near pre-i22 levels.I think that's about right. That is about the average price. The question is:
1. Is the "scarcity" of the "good" purple sets pushing prices higher than is otherwise sustainable? or;
Quote:2. Will lower prices get more average players without tons of funds to slot them as well?
I'm actually a little concerned about the game based on this progression.- Before inventions, people basically farmed for INF directly and might occasionally score the diamond in terms of Hami's or Titans (assuming they'd be willing to sell it off).
- When inventions came, farmers had...more to farm for, but farming became more accessible to everyone in terms of reaping, particularly when it came to Magic salvage.
- Reward merits and AE tickets were the equivalent of the Louisiana Purchase -- the west was opened. More fertile land to reap in terms of salvage. People could simply buy up needed salvage with those currencies and plug it into recipes, or else could also sell that salvage off without necessarily having to invest time in acquiring INF first.
- Continuing that analogy, although the Lousiana Purchase "opened up farmland", there were still veins of precious metals out there to be found (i.e. Purple recipes and respec recipes). We call it farming for recipes, but in reality those folks were panning for gold, and when they found it, it freqently was the mother lode, as evidenced by the offline arrangement of transactions.
- Then comes along Incarnate Rewards in terms of Astral and Empyrean Merits as well as Alignment Merits. Althought slightly time-locked, purples are now purchaseable with direct, farmable currency and consequently, we have the rise of the true 1% (see The_Masque from November to December 2011 for an example) who really worked the system and profited from it.
- Superpacks come along a few weeks back and now we have Reward-merits galore. For those folks sustaining themselves on orange salvage sales at 2-3million INF per pop, I fear their days are numbered.
- And then, of course, converters come out on Tuesday, making any purple a possible unique with enough converting, which will impact all the high value uniques. In this case, getting a toon to 50 and committing to running every trial successfully every day over the course of a week in order to nail that one big 2billion inf score on a shield wall or gladiator starts to fizzle.
-
Quote:Well, initially, I expect the market for anything that has been selling for more than 250 million INF will practically halt.I'm curious what the long-term effects of converters will be. I'm kind of worried that my niche (crafting and selling damage purples) is going to collapse permanently and I'm going to have to find a new way to make money.
Looking at everything purple on WW's right now, 10am EST, Sunday, 3/4/2012, there are presently 209 purple recipes (excluding Maelstrom's pistols) and 969 purple enhancements, many of which hover at the 100-200 millionish range.
Anyone sitting on a small amount of A-merits (I have about 20 between 2 level 50's) can go in and snap up the cheapy purples and hope to convert eventually for my needs, but I don't expect I would be able to for nearly as much profit as was once possible.
Given that purples from empyrean Michael start at 40 (50 for pvp's) and non-pvp purples are minimum 20 a-merits (minimum 30 for pvp's), once the current excess is exhausted, things should pick up again. Ultimately, the unique prices will drop somewhat (as expected), but right nao folks are still going to pay a premium (especially since there's pretty much nothing else to do with INF); I expect the other purples will rise in price and likely stabilize around 300millionish as a wild guess.
The 1%, i.e. the farmers, won't really be hurt by this so much as those people who don't have a whole lot and were struggling/hoping to claw their way up. For someone without equity presently, the depression of purple prices will really hurt. With that written, I think the inevitable depression of the rare salvage market will hurt those folks even more because of
a.) the monty haul sized piles of reward merits being given out in super packs and
b.) converting an existing purple to another purple costs no salvage
The gap between classes will grow even further. -

The trailer looks pretty awesome -- probably going to have to watch captain america and thor now.
RE: WW -- Joss Whedon tried to bring her to film, but wound up separating from the project.
RE: JLA -- I don't see it happening either. Anyone other than Christian Bale as Batman would be really difficult to sell // WW is non-existent // Superman is in a world of confusion (imho, Superman is either Christopher Reeve or Tom Welling).
I would love to see a big screen Superman movie with the guy from Smallville resuming the role as Lex Luthor. -
