If Villains are already paying more for things than heroes are for the same item, how exactly would we not be able to compete? Heck, had they done it earlier, there would be fewer heroes that got rich by selling arcane salvage.

I just did a quick check on two items that I need.

Numina +recovery (recipe) 250,000,000 at level 30 Villain side (last sale)
Numina +recovery (recipe) 117,500,001 at level 30 Hero side (last sale)

Crafted Blessing of the Zephyr +KB protection 100,000,000 at level 10 Villain side (last sale)
Crafted Blessing of the Zephyr +KB protection 50,000,000 at level 10 Hero side (last sale)

I really don't know how I would be able to outfit my characters paying almost half of what I do now. I would probably lose my mind
You can't reasonably draw that conclusion. You're assuming that all Villains can compete with all heroes. Look at the graphic you quoted. The number of villains bidding and selling are mostly smaller even though most prices are inflated. The # of bidders might be a reflection of the population size, sure, but it throws enough doubt out there to make your conclusion weak.

That still wouldn't address the per capita inf issue that JohnX posited.
  3. It's a cool idea although I'd probably say let's just restrict it to invisible arm/hand/head and neck. This way, it can play out to various concepts, it doesn't upset the pvp'ers and hopefully not impose too much on the artists.

Maybe it could be the 69 month vet reward? ( ' : <

Vista hasn't been all that bad -- been on it for over a year. It's only now starting to make me cranky actually and a discount copy of Win7 is destined to hit a partition in the near future ( ' :

  6. First, I'm all for maintaining Veteran rewards -- I'm in agreement with the numerous reasons already stated.

Here is my compromise solution (and it surprises me that it has not been enacted yet). Unlock veteran rewards based on subscription time purchased (rather than game-time played.) Huh? Don't we do that already? Not exactly. If a new player wants his trench coat, let him buy 3 months worth of sub-time and unlock the reward (although the badge is not unlocked until 3 months elapsed.) If a player has been around 3 months and decides s/he wants angel wings, s/he can plunk down 1 year's worth of subscription time to get them.

    +'s
Players can get wings and other rewards
Veterans can't claim that new players "paid" less or are not entitled tot hem.
NCsoft is still getting money, possibly lots of money, up front.

    -'s
If rewards are meant to be a hook to keep players in game over time, that hook is removed. Sure, NCsoft has money from those people which fills an immediate need but if all of the rewards could be front-loaded, players aren't nearly as incentivized to stay in game. And if there aren't as many players in game, then other players may be less inclined to stock around.

Honestly, I prefer the existing system over this compromise but figured to put it out there. I think there's tremendous benefit to NCsoft and a sense of satisfaction and excitement for a player when they near a vet-reward anniversary. Angel/Demon wings look far off to a new player but as the anniversaries tick away, the excitement grows, especially after month 15 -- that's priceless.

EDIT: One other thing I'd like to comment on: I don't think the developers can or should alter the system to make the rewards purchaseable. I think certain things have been promised as exclusives and they should remain that way. Unfortunately, the developers have gone back on this twice now: prestige power sprints and arachnos helmets for pre-orders. I can see how the devs painted themselves into a corner with the helmets, given VEATs are arachnos soldiers but, still, that doesn't necessarily engender good faith going back on their word like that. Some might also suggest the hero kits too but, to my knowledge, those were just codes pulled from existing dvd editions and redistributed.
  7. Solo ToTing? maybe. But, assuming you strategize and open doors near a secured building with the transporter drones and near the hospital in general, it isn't all that bad. Frankly, at low-levels, group toting is more efficient to level up than running sewers blue-side or farming the first bank mission red side. It boggled my mind to see people forming sewer teams during the event and I even suggested to some that they shoudl tot instead.

My best low-level toting was on Virtue, villain-side at the first door just outside of the Mercy Isle Base, right across from Burke. Was part of a group of 8 farming for brand new villies -- some didn't appreciate the fact that I would let my brute face-plant so often because of my power choice selections. Considering I could run back from the med transporter in about 20 seconds, putting off that self-heal for an hour's worth of play (until level 10ish) was a fine tradeoff (for me : ' )
  8. Saw that when I mapserved on Freedom (along with a whole bunch of other people) -- Talos was in a ZA at the time.

I agree also. Furthermore, I think CO (and its struggles) will continue to raise the awareness of CoX too because you know they'll be talking about it on their forums.

I'm really surprised that tinkering either with screen scaling or replacing the fonts didn't help. Best of luck.

I'm pretty sure I won't be able to make the fri or sat times -- Slickhawk should be removed from the list and stuck onto a wait list on the offchance he can make it rather than possibly take up a slot someone else will definitely use.

That's all you need to read of the aritcle to decide not to take it very seriously. The article's author has no more idea what numbers have been "told" than you or I or the Man in the Moon. Or that ANY number was "told." Unless, of course, that author possesses some super Joe Biden secret ninja skills with a side order of Chuck Norris telepathy.

This is all just the author's imagination. From that little imagined acorn, the author's grown his whole oak tree of an article: Some GR performance number was arrived at and/or promised. so if that number isn't arrived at, DOOOOOOOM!!! Goodbye not only COH but Paragon Studios ... even NCSoft West!

Boiled down, the NC Soft respsonse was: that's not how we do businsess, that's not the way it works here. Here's some examples why. Pretty staright forward if you ask me. What else do you expect them to say? "Get out of your parent's basement, kid, and get a life!"?
    .
And here's the thing -- I don't think people gave the original blogger much credence -- just another fanboi spouting gibberish on the web that should have gone unnnoticed. But, given that massively decided to comment on it and give it far more visibility, I think NCsoft had to make a response. Was it appropriate? I believe so given they opted to talk to massively and not the blogger.

Trekkies will definitely flock to it and probably hurt a lot of games' susbscriber bases at least temporarily but, frankly, I think cryptic probably should be more concerned about cannibalizing their own playerbase. That is, assuming any significant number of people who bought CO memebrships for STO beta access are still even playing CO....

It was a lot of fun, thanks again for running this and letting me tag along. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was that for a level 35, I only picked up about 5 bars of xp -- the prestige contribution was nice though, maybe 10K worth. I'll certainly be up for others as they come along! ( ' :

    Random I17 ideas

Just to throw what I consider to be a few possibly low cost, high yield ideas out there:

1.) Powerset Customization -- Make prestige power slide an alternate animation for superspeed for those of us who bought the dvd/hero kit. It's a bit of a bummer that I have this cool "sprint" animation but it can't be used for actual "travel".

2.) Auras -- Expand the number of places to attach auras to include weapons and shields.

3.) Mission Maps -- Assuming a random map generator is not in the works, perhaps task a small team with the responsibility of creating a handful more maps for mission instances. The single biggest gripe, and it can never be argued, is just running through the same map over and over with it occasionally reversed.

    That's about all.
  19. I'd like to go on the waiting list -- Slickhawk -- level 35 katana/regen scrapper

    thanks! ( ' :

This was a common occurence on the Champions Online forums too -- the single-minded folks chiming in on a request from the alt-players. I'm in absolute agreement with you, can't hurt simply to ask for some consideration of a few slots. Doesn't even have to be 2 per server but, as someone suggested, give us a few of "coupons" equivalent to the veteran rewards and we'll just open them on the server we choose.
  25. Since we're getting an expansion, do you think (or know) if the devs are intending to unlock any (say 2) additional character slots per server? We started with 8 unlocked, then expanded to 12 unlocked with then the option to have up to 36 but it would be nice for the purchase if they threw in a few so we can play new characters.
