  1. Last night on freedom, around 2AM EST, 4 not quite full teams took down the LoW with about 9 minutes, 40 seconds remaining. That was by far the fastest I think he ever went down while I was participating.Good job Freedomites! ( ' :

  3. If you're going to add a second drive, why not do the install of win7 directly to it? Copy over what you want so far as data files go and reiinstall everything else. Then you could feasibly dual boot between the two as necessary (although technically, the the os license you upgraded from should no longer be used) -- at the very least, you can revert to XP very quickly if things aren't working.
  4. Seems like a more effective way to meet the spirit of the argument (restrict stacking of the bonuses using on "free" travel powers or additional travel power selections) is to impose a "law of 1" for universal travel power set bonuses and make the BotZ KB protection unique (if it isn't already). Or it could all just stay as is. I appreciate the responses.
  5. Like the subject says, what's up with that? Why are the sprints and prestige power slide limited to running and jumping enh's only? I was hoping to slot Blessing of the Zephyr into power slide. Has this been discussed, is it an oversight, or is it perhaps an oversight that won't be reconsidered now to avoid indirect stacking with ninja run?

  7. Eh, I'm reluctant to go win7 at the moment. I installed cox on a friend's machine with an 8800gts and win7x64 -- the bloom effects were overwhelmingly offputting (e.g you couldn't even read the rating on the title screen because the words were overwhelmed by the whiteout). All his other games played fine and he claimed the drivers were fine but I wasn't about to dig into it further in the timeframe that I had. 6 months, a service pack form microsoft and a few updates from nvidia before I go that road.
  8. Make sure cohupdater.exe and cityofheroes.exe are not running in compatibility mode, that seems to slow it down.

I may run late on this --I'll try to make it but you may want to mark me as an alternate for now, and, if necessary, give my place to someone else who can guarantee being there. Thanks/sorry.
  10. Thanks again for running this -- pretty epic considering the nictus! Looking forward to the next one. ( ' :
  11. Went through it twice last night on freedom, successful both times.

Chatting with a few players after the 2nd run, we were in agreement that it was fun, different from the banner event, but shared the same concern that it may suffer the same fate as the banners. That is, it will frustrate people attempting it later on in the event cycle once enough toons are badged out. Hopefully the merit reward incentivizes people to return to it.

Other than that, I bugged the fact that the message "Winter Lord drops a present" doesn't seem to show up in any of the chat channels (that i had on anyway) and to check it. It jsut blew by so fast the first time I got it, and occured in Skyway, that I was left a bit confused before hopping to Talos where I could see it in action with more people.

Finally, one thing that may be working as intended, was the gift-clicking. High levels can click on gifts in lower level zones which, if they do spawn enemies, can be way below level and make for an easy candy cane hunt. Not sure if you continousouly get the naughty message if you don't clean up your spawns though.

All in all, it's fun. As much as I'd like to see candy canes drop more frequently (I'll probably be away for most of the duration when this event is running at the end of December), I think they drop at a good rate between presents and the WL/LW that it doesn't turn into a Monty Hall situation. Pick and choose which hereos you want to gear up with Winter's gift and costume parts.

    I should be available for this. I'll bring either a 26 storm/elect defender or a 26 psychic/mental blaster.
  13. I'd love to join!

Most likely I'll bring Slickhawk (38 katana/regen scrapper) but there's an outside chance of bringing a fire/fire blaster if I make the push.
  14. /signed.

In agreement about those people just leeching while taking a dirt (saucer?) nap.

You did a great job, thanks again for organizing this! ( ' :
  16. Was playing for about 20 minutes when I crashed -- that hasn't hasn't ever happened (as opposed to the long time display driver stoppped working issue)

  17. I think Slickhawk could make it (9:45 is a tad early). 36 katana/regen scrapper. As per usual disclaimer, you can stick me on a waitlist for those who can guarantee participating ( ' :

It would be like giving everyone the chance to use a longer name. If you want to be Stratos (which I am sure is taken on most if not all servers), and you find it is taken, you ahve the option to be Doctor Stratos, etc (same as now) OR you can decide that Stratos is your hero name, and will use another name so that you can keep the main one. Thus, you would be Stratos (Mike Augustine).

I think it is a fairly elegant system that is automatically backward compatible as well.
Just uping the character limit from 20 to 32 could do wonders and be backward compatible.

Probably the ideal levell would be 14 to strip all of the trial accounts that did not subscribe. Just sayin'.

The Devs want some kind of metric that guages community participation. They don't want to make that unfair by dictating that people need to be online x hours or days to get rewards, because some people can login for a couple hours a week and still contribute a lot to the community (the guy who runs a player event or sets up a Hami Raid or something, for examples). However they also don't want to dictate that people need to make quality contributions or even play with other people, if they don't want to. It's just being there that counts. Not much of a hurdle to overcome.

Therefore, they select time the account has been active. Not time the account is going to be active, time it has been active. That makes the assumption that people are logging in and playing at least part of the time the account is active. It has nothing to do with the paying of a sub fee. They just want people to have had the opportunity to be logged in and contributing before they hand over goodies. Not much of a hurdle to overcome.

They measure being part of the community the best way they can without going overboard on enforcing people to play a certain amount of time.

What I don't get is why that's so hard to see for some people, and why they consistently think it's a matter of money or that waiting is so onerous that things need to be easier or "more fair"
I'm not missing the point and, frankly, you're one who is making attributions and assumptions, as are those vets who turn around and say it's about "experience".

As I said, I am not for changing the Vet reward system but I'm open-minded enough to suggest a compromise for those "behind the curve". Currently Vet rewards are attributed based on the following account time:
........(1.) The free month of game time included with the game,
    ........(2.) free trial time, and
........(3.) payments by credit card or game time card. Payments by credit card or game time card only include the paid time **already incurred, not future time**

Now, my point *if* there should be a compromise is that they should drop the qualification of paid time "already incurred, not future time". Will that happen? Don't know, don't care. There are a myriad of reasons not related to the game as to why they would not do it including liability to refunding money if they shut down before time was used, wanting to recognize ongoing revenues, or having a carrot to keep people subscribed when they might otherwise take 1 month breaks during issue releases.

As you state, it is up to the devs and what they think, I agree wholeheartedly. But there are those out there, such as yourself, that think they can spin any sort of answer to justify keeping the vets rewards as-is when you really don't have a clue: pot, meet kettle. I specifically called out the use of the subscription time change because a.) people have argued that basing on subcription time is fair because everyone has to "pay" it and b.) because when it is proposed that the qualifaction be removed, suddenly there are defensive remarks like "it's about game experience" which come off as elitist.

See, this is what I don't get though. If someone pays for 5 years of subtime upfront, they're commiting themselves to the game in the exact same fashion as someone who paid for that time month by month for 5 years. Veterans argue that vet rewards are fair because everyone earns them the exact same way -- by paying for it. So does it really matter if they pay upfront or not? It doesn't really to me.

Turning around and claiming that suddenly it's about life experience makes people sound desperate. What is deemed as life experience? Someone who plays 365*5 days earns city traveler? I doubt any one person has logged in everyday from day 1. If you agree, then you probably agree it's acceptable for someone who has paid for all that time but didn't log in every day to get the veteran reward. Well, if that's the case, then why can't someone who's currently been playing, paying for all of that time up front still get the reward (with badges unlocking on appropriate anniversaries)....after all, they're characters will be there for the same duration....?

It isn't, as I stated at the very beginning of the post, but that doesn't make me stubborn enough to shut down any sort of compromise.
