Can I get a copy of your thesis?
I did a minor (of sorts) in Criminology while studying Business Administration. I actually did the major paper of that branch of study on cyber security. -
Quote:Saving the studio means saving the studio by any and all means necessary, yes.Hmm ...
When we're talking about "save the game" or "save the studio," under what circumstances are we talking about? Do we mean, by "save the studio," that Paragon Studios remains a part of NCSoft?
I think the employees are more important than the studio itself. I don't know the terms of their employment with NCSoft, but isn't it possible for them to stay together and form a new, independent studio? If I understand correctly, this is what happened with Westwood. When EA gave them the axe, a lot of its employees moved on to found Petroglyph. Not all of them, but many of them.
So, if they were to do that, would saving the studio mean investing in their new studio as a Kickstarter? -
I've had a growing suspicion that I'd like confirmed one way or the other.
If it came down to the choice of saving the game, or saving the studio, which would you consider the preferable outcome?
I, personally, would much rather save the studio. Games are code, and can be rebuilt. -
Quote:That's exactly true. Same thing goes for Canadian copyright.Just to clarify: this is not true. The owns the rights to use your character, but they don't own your character. That's not legally possible in the United States to do a legal transfer of copyrights without quite a bit of paperwork, signatures and potentially a transaction (may be different in other countries, though.)
I'm sure Arcanaville has her explanation on this on her clipboard ready to be pasted, though. -
I'd have loved to have a marketing position, whereby I was responsible for handling the various contests and such.
The contest I would've loved to run would be an in-game costume contest in which the winner received a real-world version of that costume. -
Indeed. I would happily lend my expertise in marketing and communications to make the press release the best possible.

A song written by everyone's favourite Mountie - Paul Gross.
Ride Forever
I was born north of Great Slave, 1898
And I rode near all my life on a ranch near Devil's Gate
And I've seen this world about me bend and flip and change
Hey, it feels like rain -- that's a thunder cloud
We'll, I've been called a coward, but I've seen two World Wars
And I lost my son, Virgil, my Korean reward
And my Lucy died last summer -- you ask me if I cry?
Hell, I'll show you tears, they're all over this ground
They're falling from these blue Alberta skies
But I'm going to ride forever
You can't keep horsemen in a cage
Should the angels call, well it's only then
I might pull in the reins
They tell me I'm an old man, they tell me I am blind
They took my driver's license, this house ain't far behind
I say jump back all you big suits 'cause you've got something wrong
I ain't gone, no, I ain't gone
I am still breathing and I still have my pride
And I have my memories, your life, it never dies
Like the wind that blows in thunder
Or the stallion on the fly, I got it all
And I'm standing tall underneath these blue Alberta skies
And I'm going to ride forever
You can't keep horsemen in a cage
Should the angels call, well it's only then
I might pull in the reins
So I say to all you old men, don't let yourself get broke
If you think the world's gone crazy
And it's scratching at your throat
It's time to dust off that old saddle, get it on a horse
Kick up your spurs, we're gonna run like stink
We're gonna tear across these blue Alberta skies
We're gonna ride forever
You can't keep horsemen in a cage
Should the angels call it's only then
I might pull in the reins.
I'd love to see someone prepare a proper version of this for our fair city. -
Quote:Yes, absolutely.TonyV - if I make so bold... should this actually work?
The title of the press release should be "Faith Manages."

"On the one hand, it is a statement of hope to anyone else out there who has a dream, to follow it no matter who speaks against you, no matter the odds, no matter what they say to or about you, no matter what roadblocks they throw in your way. What matters is that you remain true to your vision.
On the other hand, for the reviewers and the pundits and the critics and the net-stalkers who have done nothing but rag on this show for five years straight, it is also a giant middle finger composed of red neon fifty stories tall, that will burn forever in the night."
- J Michael Straczynski, on the inclusion of a closing card that read "DEDICATED TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO PREDICTED THAT THE BABYLON PROJECT WOULD FAIL IN ITS MISSION. FAITH MANAGES.", after his 11th hour success in finding a backer for the last season of BABYLON 5 -
I picture this as being the ideal public response:

I play too. -
Where am I going?
To the furthest reaches my creativity and imagination can take me, and it was the inspiration of CoX that launched me forward.
See you in the Hugos! -
-
In total? Cumulatively, I have spent over 8 months playing.
Not enough. So very much not enough. -
I will not boycott NCSoft. Nor will I direct my ire at Cryptic.
I will do something much, much crueler.
Though it will take years to do so, I will use my creative genius to make games.
These games will carry with them the spirit of the CoX community.
And in the end, we will have our vengeance. -
I will admit that many of my characters predate my creation of them in City of Heroes, and many of them carry with them the weight of their own worlds.
Xylric, for example, has a name that means "Self-Exiled Law of Pain." There are unlimited possibilities with such a character.
I, for one, am going to be taking down the most critical elements of my character's costumes, such that when the time comes, I will be able to recreate them on my own time, in the real world. -
Very simply? I am going to utilize as many of the character concepts I have created in my own works.

This game has done much to inspire my love of writing and my love of world building. I have learned so much about design both good and bad. I absolutely love the mythology of this game, and its long history.
I was never very vocal on the forums or in game for that matter, even as a VIP, but there one thing that I'd like to leave as a record:
1) Pinnacle Server was my home, and will remain my home. The community there was top notch, willing to help out other players both in and outside of the game. I met some very good friends there, and made some enemies as well, but above all else, I had *fun.*
I am not, and have never been, a social being, but I have very rarely felt so welcomed as I did in CoX. It is because of my interactions on CoX that I have fully realized my own creative potential, something that I had thought lost forever.
Thank you, all. -
Quote:Playing at being a hero is one thing. To actually have the means to fully dedicate one's life to enhancing those of others is quite something else. It would enhance my experience by making it cease to be a game. It really is that simple.Philanthropy is all well and good, but the question was "how would you enhance your COH experience?"
Also, being in Canada - Lottery winnings are not typically taxed. -
I've actually put serious thought into this...
In order:
Keep $25 million for myself
Donate $50 million to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra
Donate $50 million to the Perimeter Institute
Donate $100 million to the University of Waterloo
Donate $125 million to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto
Most importantly, I'd donate $175 million to MS Research. -
No, no. The Kheld bug predates the three extra slots, and was a bug in respec code.
-
Quote:Unfortunate. I think a great many people would have loved to see this, as it would allow people to reduce weaknesses in their builds.-
Q: 3 extra enhancement slots broke stuff badly. Has it been shelved? yes. Too much work for them to get that to work.
I do, however, recall that old bug that resulted in a Kheldian character being able to two-shot Hamidon or something like that... call me crazy, but it seems to me that part of that bug at least partially accomplished what's being considered.
If there's an old back-up copy of the code that contained the bug, it might be possible to examine and adapt it.
I'm not a programmer, though, so I wouldn't know. -
There is a closed Beta going on. I am not in the Beta, therefore I should not be able to see those forums.
However, I actually could, until I hit the refresh button.
Therefore, yes, there is a difference. -
Considering I just experienced an odd glitch where the forum considered me VIP when I haven't been for two months, that might be something to look into.
-
Oh, I get to the character selection scene very easily every time, the character just fails to zone in. But yes, it does pop up with a "you're already logged in" if I try to get back on fast enough.
