There is another trick you can use with the auction house to make a quick 100K - 150K in 10 - 20 minutes. Go in and look for common salvage that is selling low, then put in bids for stacks of 10 at 5 or 10 or even 1 inf. Grab the stacks you buy and run to to the Store up on Atlas Plaza and sell them. Rinse and repeat. within 10 - 20 minutes you should have an easy 100K - 150K.
Or you can go through the normal enhancements doing the same thing and grabbing them and selling them to the store as well. -

I spent a couple minutes once trying to go in the "out" door of the tram,
[/ QUOTE ]
We've all done that. It's a CoH rite of passage.

::chuckle:: I still remember the time I left a character parked at the out door and then when I logged back in couldn't figure out why the tram wasn't working.... -

Restricting AE access in any way goes against what the devs promised AE could be used for. It was designed as an alternative to levelling using dev content so locking it in any way would be changing one of its intended purposes.
Locking it to people with a level 50 would have left it dead. There'd be nowhere near the community online than there is now. A TF/SF to access it would be the same.
Now, restricting it to level 10 and up or similar would have been a good idea but too late now. Locking the AE in any way now will cause a lot of players to quit.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most aren't saying restrict it level wise but instead move it out of the starter zones and change it so the AE contact doesn't contact you until a higher level. You could still go there at level 1 if you wanted but you would have to be able to find it first. That is a decent solution and means new players to the game get a chance to actually play before being introduced to the AE. Then if they want to spend all there time in it they at least have had an introduction to the actual game. And have had a chance to learn to play. -
You can also get there by going to Kings Row, then go to Pocket D. In the hallway before entering the main area you will see a hatch in the floor. You can take that there was well.

Being able to wear a wedding dress doesn't make your powers recharge faster.

But it does let you look cool while your powers recharge. -

I think the only way to really curb it somewhat, as someone already pointed out, would be to just remove the Ae building from MI, PO, AP, KR, and GC. That way it forces people to leave the zones and/or actually learn more about the game world. At just shy of my 33 month Vet Reward, I'm all for helping people and teaching them the ropes, but I'm not keen on having to hold their hands because they didn't have the desire to do anything aside from camp in front of the big glowie column. It's that whole "help me, help you" type thing for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly, I think it is kind of a trap for new players that it is in the starter zones. Some will realize there is more to the game than this but others will be sucked in and think the AE is all there is. We can already see that happens so this part isn't speculation.
I don't actually object to AE but I do think that it needs to be moved from the starter zones and the introduction not happen till a higher level than 1. That way the player will get a chance to start normal play, [what ever that is.], before getting sucked into the AE.

Alright...that's my mistake.
I was always under the impression that the devs said it was a mistake because it was too easy to get a character to 50.
My apologies.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope if you don't PL, and don't play every day in a team, but instead only play casually maybe in a team maybe solo it can take you a few years to reach level 50. Now if you work at it reaching the level cap isn't that hard, but you have to want to. With PLing being the easiest way to reach the level cap.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's what I always thought. I thought it was EATs that started the whole PLing phase of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was there before the EAT's. They only made it more common just as PvP made it more common. There has always been those who see the maximum level as the desired level to play this game or any game. That isn't exactly true in COX but a lot of people coming here from other games come with the idea that the game begins at the level cap. So they would race to the level cap and then find there isn't all that much special to do there that you couldn't do while playing your way up to the cap.
It is a different design philosophy. Now the devs have been steadily adding more stuff for level 50's to do but there still is not that major of a benefit to being 50. I enjoy it and I play at level 50 from time to time but I just as often or even more often play my other characters. -

Heh congratulations, you get there one post at a time.
-
I agree with this, though maybe level 10 is a better unlock point. Additionally I think the AE building should be moved out of Atlas and Mercy so it isn't in the starting zones.
-
It is funny you should suggest this. Perhaps the devs should just make it a blaster power set in the upcoming Going Rogue expansion. .... .... .... Oh wait they have.

[ QUOTE ]
Hami...farm....? Haven't run across those, but, then, I don't team that often. So, lemme get this straight: There are mobs that can be put into AE missions that don't fight back but give xp? And the devs haven't squashed that yet?
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh yes what ever a Hami farm is sounds like an exploit and should be reported to the devs and then avoided like the plague so you don't get your character penalized for using an obvious exploit. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, expect PVP'ers to cry foul at this, what's left of them anyways. Super-powered level 50 enters PVP zone and own all the regular level 50. I don't see why the devs are so afraid to raise the level cap.
[/ QUOTE ]
Mainly because there is no practical benefit to raising the level cap. -
Well the original plans for side switching per the devs way back during I6/COV beta until I7 when it was shelved had the following information.
* You would keep your AT
* You would lose all your inf.
* It would have other costs associated with it. {Note: speculation included loosing all of your enhancements.}
* Originally it would involve a special story arc where you decided the fate of a longbow agents family. Depending on your actions you would switch or not.
* It would be repeatable.
* They had considered possible exploits and worked to prevent them.
Ok additionally Positron at one point indicated a dislike for EPP's on the villain side and PPP's on the hero side. Indications are that they couldn't remove access to this was one of the reasons that side switching was back burned.
The last least to a logical deduction that if you are over 40 you probably will be forced into a respecification and have to select your powers again and have to use the new sides end power pools. If that is the case one can speculate that it will unslot and remove all of your enhancers. -
Well my satin worshiper definitely will have to go rouge. After all think of that fine red satin and then using your rouge to properly enhance yourself and set the mood.

Don't really know what else to add, but maybe even witches need some kind of 'oh crap' thing to whip out when things get tough?
[/ QUOTE ]
At the tail end of level 40...
"Laugh now, my pretties. You may have shrugged off my mighty powers borne of ancient magic. But the time is drawing nigh when you will regret our foolishness. Mark my words..."
After a little montage to get to 41...
"I'm back! Remember me? And now for a magic of a new and different kind..." (Whips out the rocket launcher and blows the bums away.)

I'm suddenly reminded of the end of wizards when the good wizard whips out a pistol and shots his brother the evil wizard. -

Out of curiosity, why couldn't a witch use a rocket launcher? She's got two hands. Heck even Buff the Vampire Slayer used a rocket launcher.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the OP's point was that the character was "magic" and not "tech".
Of course, a witch could use a rocket launcher. I guess and example may have been better if a "tech" character took an epic pool to cast "magic" spells.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I suspect that is the OP's actual point about how 'wrong' it is to make a none pure concept build. Ie magic/tech. And yet the genre supports it. While there are occasionally pure concepts generally most super heroes turn out to be a mixed origin. Oh sure one might be prominent but they often have aspects of what COX would call other origins in their back story and powers.
That is why I've always been faintly amused by the people who insist on purity of concept ie the mundane who can't use technology to fly, tap into the teleport grid etc.... but must run everywhere. Come one people there is amazing high tech available if you know where to look and you are telling me a hero couldn't pick up a magic or tech gizmo to do something?
This doesn't mean a pure build is wrong, just that it is only a minor example of the ways you can build and set your characters concept. -

[ QUOTE ]
Because rocket launching witches are AWESOME. That's why.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm going with this.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am also. I'm not quite seeing why the concept of a witch using a rocket launcher is bad? Presumably by level 40 she has made some contacts in the military, or other source for military hardware and decided she liked it and wants to use it. -
It is a normal random drop. Anything that can drop a normal level 50 recipe can drop a purple. That said it is very very rare. My 50 on test has 2 he has found but on live the same character has yet to find even one. ::sigh::
-
Purples are about a 1 in 1000 chance of dropping if your in the right level range for them. The only reason increasing difficulty would have a chance of more drops is that the 3rd and 5th difficulty increase the number of mobs spawned giving you more chances per mission of getting what you are looking for.

You have to petition customer service and ask a GM to review the ban.

Ok I didn't read the updates correctly. I was thinking that was under the General heading, missed the only DOM's Heading. I was thinking they Nerfed the HELL out of my Blaster. Sorry all for the Ruckus. . .exits stage left!
[/ QUOTE ]
Well that happens, we just wanted to clarify the question and have fun at the same time.Glad your blaster is fine.
-
Ok, I'll confess I was being silly above showing the OP might have been thinking. Instead it is more likely he/she/it heard in game that it had been nerfed and rushed to the boards to post. And didn't even bother to research the topic first.
-
[ QUOTE ]
we it is probably about Dom and Psi Assault. Although it is more fun to guess what anachronism "MM" means.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can't be that. After all posting on the general boards with MM clearly indicates the Master Mind AT. After all if he was indicating a question about dominaters he would have posted in the dominater forums.
Additionally the OP is probably aware that calling out the devs and asking for an answer is pretty much futile.
Last the OP probably didn't bother to look around or find out that Castle already gave detailed answers to this in the dominater change thread in the I15: beta forum. I mean there is a nice detailed discussion of the changes there with answers from a dev. I'm sure that the OP checked that before posting.
And since the above must be true the OP couldn't possibly have been asking about Mental Manipulation and Psi Assault, but instead must have been asking about Master Minds. -
[ QUOTE ]
WTF. . . why did they NERF MM? Why did ya'll completely render MM sub par. Just becuase Farmers loved that set and used it doesn't give ya'll the right as DEVS to NERF a whole set as bad as ya'll did. I'll wait for an expo from a RED name before I go total balistic on here. So, what was the main purpose of killing a great set like MM? What was ya'lls reasoning? Was it because of the Farmer heavy use? If not then WHY?
[/ QUOTE ]
Umm which master mind changes are you talking about?
