They probably only sold 200% of something instead of the 210% that they predicted. That seems to be the logic that drives stock prices down for companies. Never come in lower in sales than you predicted you would even if you are coming in with a handsome profit.

That is a perfect description of my opinion of Cloverfield. And yes Skyline sounds like the same kind of movie. Nice special effects and we have to put up with annoying characters until they are killed.
-
Ok, this demands posting Howard Tayler's review of the movie.
Quote:I saw Skyline today with my friend Jeremy. At least, I think we're still friends. He didn't punch me in the throat after the movie was over.
Bad stuff had barely started happening to the cast when I realized that I liked exactly none of the characters. This made the movie much more enjoyable, because I took a certain perverse satisfaction in each of their gruesome deaths. And maybe that's what the filmmakers intended the viewing experience to be like. At any rate, the movie clears my threshold of regret by exactly one slot, and comes in at #29 for the year. The performances were competent, the effects seamless, and Los Angeles needed a good culling.
Bob Defendi summed up his dislike for the film for me later in the day. About 40 minutes in the military shows up, and our protagonists (who have yet to protag anything) look out the window at the ongoing heroics. And Bob said "that's the movie I want to watch. I want the movie about that sniper, and the guy with the bazooka."
I guess the effectiveness of the protagonists is what spells the difference between an action movie and a horror movie. Independence Day was an action movie. Skyline is a horrible movie. Oh, whoops. Typo.
Meh. -
Quote:Oh exactly. Having the occasional movie, book, or series be gritty/realistic is great. Having them all be that way is tedious, boring and unwatchable/unreadable. What is fine in little doses becomes nothing interesting if it is all you can find.Gritty and 'realistic' are nice, and they can add depth to a show/novel if they're used correctly. But that sort of thing does become tiring if it's used too often, which it currently is.
Thats why I found the dismissal of No Ordinary Family as to Disney etc so fascinating. Frankly it makes a nice break from the dredging the bottom of the well with the too gritty etc shows.
I watch/read for entertainment not to be depressed or otherwise given a downer. I generally want to smile at the end of a show. -
Ok, that was a win. Just watching XXXX XXXXX the XXXXX was worth it.
That it was a Norton ad is irrelevant.

Magic It is alchemy.
Natural - It is the use of natural toxins found in nature and utilized through your extensive knowledge of natural herbs and toxins.
Mutant - You naturally generate poisons and toxins in your own system.
But personally I'm fond of Magic/Alchemy as the explanation of poisons. -
Quote:Exactly, I regularly eat out at least once a week and my meal costs $13 - $18 depending on what I get. I can easily afford a once every few month pack for $10.00.They're aiming these at players who don't mind spending the equivalent of a movie ticket, six pack or frozen pizza to spruce up their characters, not people who think ten bucks constitutes a "pile of money".
Opt in, opt out, your choice.
But please don't pretend the price tag represents some kind of undue financial burden.
And yes I'll be buying this one.I saw some aura's and capes I want.

Exactly, I'm sorry that Chris and the others are gone. I liked Chris' posting style and enjoyed the work he did on the game that I know of. It definitely made things better. And I wish him and the others long and successful careers that start as soon as they want.

Quote:Wait a minute you hadn't heard about the black clad teams of assault troops that Paragon Studio's keeps to send to posters houses? I thought everyone had heard about them.Really?
When did they issue MP5's to the mods and start 'disappearing' troublesome posters?
Just a moment I have to go see who is knocking on the door. ..... -
Quote:But that is just it, the lawsuit in this case isn't frivolous and the corporation can lose a lot of money fighting and losing the lawsuit. Blame lawyers and the way the laws are written.Shouldn't a big, bad corporation have the courage to slap down frivolous lawsuits?
They were written with the intent of 'protecting' people but the side effect is that they enforce such silence policies on a company. Even when the company would love to praise etc someone. -
Quote:Actually legally it is. Bob can turn around and sue for a lot of money because of that simple statement. Blame the government and blame lawyers. It is because of them that businesses have to have no comment policies on employee separation.Wouldn't that be due to the fact that Bob either wasn't putting in the effort or wasn't with the company long enough to garner any huge awards?
Two words: Big deal
As the example that your dismissing shows even glowing comments about departing employees can and often will be turned against a company by other departing employees.
So basically as annoying as the policy is it is a big huge CYA policy. -
Quote:SGU improves as the season goes on but not a lot.I've been catching up on Season One now and again on netflix. Im not a fan, but i keep watching mostly because it IS a Stargate show and the fanboy in me just can't let go. Im through the first 10 episodes, but can anyone let me know if the show's actually improved, or is it still Stargate Galactica?
I'm not sure if I'll bother watching it this season. I suppose I'll go ahead and give it a try simply because I watched all of season 1 and they look like maybe they have a clue where to go this season. But it is low on my list of shows, I'm more watching it because of inertia than because I like it. -
Quote:Exactly, people stuck with Heroes because it had potential. The problem is that it never appeared to even try and reach any of that potential. Even with that Season 1 of Heroes was pretty good.
Folks aren't saying that NOF will be great; they're saying Heroes already sucked.
NOF actually had the story move along in the first episode which is something that Heroes would have taken several episodes of Heroes. That is why people are saying that NOF is what they wanted Hereos to be. They wanted the story to move along not drag out while the characters angst this week over this or that. -
Quote:Except to have the story move along at a decent pace. Heroes would have taken 6 episodes to get to the teleport vs ss/inv fight there at the end of episode 1 of NOF.My point is that, so far...in only one episode...NOF has done nothing that Heroes hasn't already done.
In part that is because there were so many individual story lines to move forward in Heroes. Mind you the first season of Heroes was good but it never fully lived up to it's promise. -
Quote:Exactly. Heroes had all that awesome potential and didn't do anything with it.When a show achieves in a single episode what people wanted, what Heroes wasn't able to do it in it's entire run, that's how.
-npHere we had an awesome knockdown fight between a teleporter and a SS/Inv right at the end of the episode. With the expectation that we might have more such fun action in future episodes.
Earlier someone mentioned that heroes was built around an event at the end of the season while NOF is built as an open ended story. Oh certainly there appears to be an intermediate threat lurking on the horizon of the boss and the meta's working for him but the story doesn't revolve around that.
My guess is that much of the problem with Heroes was that every season basically revolved around the end of season event and so every story line in it had to aim for that. This limited its options.
Anyway here is hoping that No Ordinary Family lives up to the promise of the first episode. It has gone on my DVR to watch along side NCIS. -
Preview for next weeks episode does show her being worried about the potential health problems.

Quote:Yes but while the higher powered characters are more powerful so are the weaker powered characters more powerful. And we are still far short of the power level of the most powerful characters that existed prior to ED and GDN.Do you really think characters are more powerful now than they were in the days before ED and the GDN? Back when you could make hasten permanent on SOs? And health and stamina provided 1.5 times the bonus they do now? And there was no cap on aggro or AoE abilities? I don't think we've even reached those levels yet, let alone surpassed them.
Basically ED & GDN narrowed the gap between the least powerful characters and the most powerful characters. The most powerful characters where gutted by these changes while the midpower and lower characters generally didn't see any change in the power of their characters.
Since that time the changes that have come along have acted to boost all characters in power while keeping the gap in power between the least and greatest narrower than it used to be. And this has allowed for nice things to be given to us of which making the fitness pool inherent is just the latest. -
Actually I realized after thinking about it that you won't have to respec if you haven't used your alternate builds. Since nothing changes with the existing character either to benefit or harm. That said the pain of using the alternate build would be having to find enhancements to slot which you wouldn't have a problem with if you repec your primary build. Ah well the fun of choices.
-
I would say about 2/3rds of my characters take the axe over sands of Mu. That is either because they can directly benefit from it's special ability or it just fits their character better.
-
Meh I don't actually care about it. Out of 60+ characters I only have 2 with stamina. One of them a stone brute who took the fitness pool for swift.
I'll look at it as a bit more end, toss a recovery into the slot of stamina and move on. I'm more considering the headache of possibly respecting the two who did take fitness, though I may not do that just because I'm not sure if it is worth the 3 extra powers or not. hmm, ok the 3 extra powers are cool and all but what a pain to respect, then again I think I've only respected three times since the game launched unlike some who seem to do it on a weekly basis.
On second thought I'll probably not respect either of them but will go ahead and do their 2nd build which I've also never gotten around to doing because I didn't want the hassle of 2 sets of enhancements, this might be handy for that. -
From the Moar Power badge.
Praetor Keyes's anti-matter reactors are a boundless source of energy, once supplying all the power for the entire Eastern United States. It was their presence which led Emperor Cole to declare Praetoria City as the capital of the new world. Even at peak demand, barely one-third of the reactors' full power is needed.
