Basically they are adding 1 brand new shiny server with the release of COH:Freedom.
If you are subscribed, ie are VIP, you can create characters on the server and play on it.
If you are not subscribed you can't create characters or play characters that are on it. Though you can use a transfer token to transfer a character from it to any other server.
That is basically it. -

Quote:Frankly I'm completely confused over why you are all bent out of shape over the 1 lone single VIP server that is completely optional to use. I mean really its an optional thing that you can safely ignore with no consequence. That's a much better way of handling an F2P transition. Here's hoping that Paragon Studios will poll their player base to determine whether we'd prefer "VIP" servers or F2P servers to be launched with COH Freedom.
The other benefit of this approach is that it leaves the decision up to P2P players about when to move to an F2P community instead of everything happening all at once. Conversely, it would be fair to allow F2P players to spend their Paragon/Reward Points to move to P2P servers. And in either case, actively committing to a given server psychologically encourages players to be good community members instead of taking things for granted. -
My understanding from what he said is that you should have enough Paragon Reward Merits to buy them again if you want.

It should be fun. And you can safely ignore the one lonely VIP server if you want. I don't actually expect that many players will rush over there. Some will but most... Meh they will stay happily on their existing server.
As for attitudes, you get some people being self righteous no matter what. Ignore them it is better for your blood pressure. -
Quote:Um, no.Not about to read through 29+ pages of the other thread so if its been discussed sorry.
Why does it feel like the VIP server is just a sneaky way to get consolidate the server lists without actually merging them all into one? Next step is to eventually remove the old non VIP servers. And you have one left. Then its all gone.
Doom?
The VIP sever Roger is there to allow VIPs one more server than everyone else, to run away and hide from the premium and free players, and to try and grab names that might be locked on others servers. Thats about it as far as I can tell. -
There also seems to be the assumption that players do certain things for fun. Not because they may need do something to allow them to engage in what they think is fun for a short time before going back to the tedious work stuff to allow fun again.

Ice Wall there were flashes of brilliance showing that a fairly decent fun film was screaming in agony trying to escape from the film and be born. Pity, clearly there were elements of a much better movie in there but they got killed and strangled by what was put on the screen.

Quote:Eh you can get them to reset things. If your account was old enough you didn't actually have all of the security questions and the system wouldn't work for you. Basically the reset things for me so I could login and rest my security questions and viola I'm set. My answers still bear no relation to the questions but are things I can remember the answer to.See, the thing is Claws, I actually (usually) go down the other path.
I typically put in either total nonsense characters or at least an answer that bears no relation to the actual question being asked for these security questions.
Then I remember my USER NAME and PASSWORD. That way, there's virtually no possible way that anyone can guess my security questions to reset my passwords on me.
Which works/worked great, so long as the security question was only used for validating the reset of passwords (which I don't need).
Now that it's required just to even access my accounts, even though I know my UN/PW, I'm basically hosed.
I can't get into my accounts, I've tried multiple e-mail chains to support and since I'm unable to give them all of the info they want [it's been over 6 years since I put in the CoH id's and the actual master accounts are even older than that due to other ncsoft games] they just keep sending responses back that I haven't provided them the info they want.
I've been trying (off and on) for months now to just get my security questions cleared so that I can re-enter them. Continually noting that I don't need the user name or passwords messed with, just the stupid security question.
And the really, really annoying part is that I even know what the answer to the security question is, generally. I just don't remember the EXACT capitalization, punctuation, spelling (if I used leet speak or not, sometimes I do), and spacing of the answer. -

Eh it was ok, not great. I simply took my disbelief and tossed it off a cliff and forgot all about suspending it. Then I sat back with a drink and some popcorn and watch guns fire, and things blow up.
It was adequate from that point of view and it doesn't hurt that I really haven't seen or read any of the jonah hex comics.
It wasn't a good movie, don't get me wrong but it wasn't a horrible movie either. There are really really bad movies out there and this one wasn't one of them. I generally get bad B horror movies and sci fi movies on netflix in hopes of catching the occasional gem and I'll rate this one as an eh... not horrible, not good but not horrible. -
I wish that resort feature was a little more obvious. I actually wanted to use a server transfer for the very first time to move the character I created off of Freedom and onto my preferred server. My server choice wasn't showing up and it isn't clear that clicking on the name will resort the list. Ah well thankfully I found this thread while searching. Now I'm not on Freedom again.

Quote:Having actually seen green clouds myself, I'll have to say no I expect the photo is accurate.Looking at the rest of the picture, I'm thinking all the colors have been enhanced a bit via Photoshop work. I'm sure the clouds were green, but not that green, just as the buildings were their color but not that much their color.
All that said, I'd be taking a radio/paper mish (preferably one in a cave) and waiting until I saw the red message telling me it's all blown over. -

The list goes on. The game would have to be gutted and rebuilt from the ground to effectively make it F2P. This because every single subscription game that has converted had to rebuild the game from the ground up. -
I have to say that even after 4 I didn't experience lag until the actual invasion and combat started. Even then the lag only happened in the area with everyone fighting. And it really wasn't that bad. I've seen worse lag in the past, much worse.
For this invasion it was only about a 10 second lag from activating a power to it firing off. This though was in Kings Row 2. -
Quote:No no no Golden Girl there are millions of us who want to solo incarnate arcs. Millions I say.Interesting use of the term "a lot" - there are quite a few posts about it, but it's by the same few people
Numerical Disclaimer - Numbers used in this post may in no way resemble actual numbers of players found in the City of Franchise. Numbers also are unlikely to represent anything but the fervent desire of the poster. -
Which explains why the thunderstorm that followed seeing those green clouds was particularly memorable for heavy rain. Makes sense.

That was good, I liked when Emperor Cole threatened to turn this invasion around and go home if they couldn't behave.

Quote:And I'll give you an example of a character that I built last night to play on Freedom for todays invasion. I wound up liking the character enough that I'm probably going to buy my first ever character transfer so I can move them off of Freedom. Anyway I'll go over how I built the character. Keep in mind I am creative and when inspired can do pretty good, when not inspired I get meh characters I don't play that much. Some of those I've rescued over the years by either respecting their powers or using costume tokens to change their look.Any recommended reading? This may actually help me build a concept by giving me a nice structural base.
Anyway meet my brand new blaster. I decided I wanted to play a pistol blaster because I had fun in the beta they were introduced in with one leveled to 50 to test incarnate stuff with, but I have never gotten around to building one yet.
So Pistols. Oddly I like magic more often than any other source of power so I went ahead and picked magic. This means his pistols aren't actually real but instead are constructs of magic, explains the endless ammunition.
So I picked mental as his secondary because that fit the magic theme nicely. I then had to pick his looks. So I went with my general choice of body type, tried out different costumes and none of them were working. Until I decided to give a leopard man a try. After all he is the creation of magic so he doesn't have to be human.
Next I set his pistols to a look I approved of and then tinted his power dark blue and gold.
The last step was to give him his bio. I always try to do this for a character now because it gives me a feel for who I'm playing. And that is important to having fun. At least for me.
And his name, after several tries with already taken names for a black leopard I checked to see if Leo Pardus was taken. It wasn't and so he was born on Freedom. Pardus is a reference to Pantherus Pardus the latin name for a leopard, and of course then one needs to play on the first name Leo = Leopard, so his hero name really is leopard leopard. -
Quote:Invasion - Book one of the Secret World Chronicles. By Mercedes Lackey with Steve Libbey, Cody Martin, and Dennis Lee.Any recommended reading? This may actually help me build a concept by giving me a nice structural base.
It started as roleplaying by COX players and yes Mercedes Lackey playes COX. Reached a point they said, hey we have enough material for podcasts, and so as a group they filed the serial numbers off and moved it out of the COX universe. Eventually it reached a point that they had enough material for a book thus producing the title you see above. The podcasts can be found at http://secretworldchronicle.com/ .
If you read it you should be able to tell the character classes that the core heroes and villains have in the book and what the match back to COX character types would be. Just reading the book or listening to the podcasts might give you an idea how a character can fit into a world were a structure exists to handle super types since they keep that aspect of the COX world but change the controlling factors. -
COX is a bit different because you do have so much freedom to build a character. That can actually be to much as you are finding.
One key is find a name, look, or concept that grabs you. Even a simple back story and then set out to build that character using the tools provided by COX.
The key to remember here is that once you have a character you want to play you can make him/her as you want but you are constrained by the nature of the world you find yourself in. And in this case that means you aren't the biggest and baddest thing around for a long time. You will constantly be fighting the agents of others and the others who are just as tough as you are.
The problem is that COX is not a sandbox. It is a structured world. So long as you work with the worlds structure you are fairly free to create as you want. When you fight it then you tend to get the feeling of not being a villain or hero. The issue is that characters are not 100% free agents in COX. This is a world that has found a place for the heroes and villains and fits them into itself as part of the whole world concept. So to make a shining character you need to be aware of the limitations of the medium and then rise above them. -
I'm coming to the conclusion that it is COX + Vista + Nostromo N52 that don't play well together. Useing my COX settings I can play other games all day. Play COX and I risk a full crash to the blue screen while playing. Happened 3 times tonight while trying to do the Praetorian invasion.
I used to think it was just a Nostro + Vista problem but it only ever happens while playing COX.
