Quote:Actually it looks kind of like this.Query:
Although Freedom players will only have 2 character slots. Will each character have 2+ costume slots?
And will CC_emotes be available to Freedom players too?
Anybody got info on that?
Free Players get
* 2 slots
Premium players get
* 2 slots
* +1 slots per year subscribed VIP/PreVIP. Total actual subscribed time.
* +2 slots per expansion purchased
* + any slots purchased.
VIP Players get
* 12 slots per server unlocked for free up to 36 unlocked per server.
* + 1 slots per per year subscribed VIP/PreVIP.
* + 2 slots per expansion purchased
* + any slots purchased. -
Quote:Ok, based on one of the examples in this thread I think it will be 2 tokens per expansion purchased. The example only mentions 2 expansions so I'm basing my deduction on that. Still I think that is accurate.I'm not 100% sure on the GR slots. I'm hoping that we get 2 more tokens for owning GR when i21 launches and not just the 2 for the slots we got with GR. The only reasons I hold out that hope are: (a) Posi specifically mentioned 2 GR tokens rather than lumping them in with the other tokens for slots such as those from i12, and (b) my belief that the devs have bent over backwards to be generous with rewarding current subscribers so that with GR becoming free in i21 those 2 tokens mentioned are there to give those who bought it something to compensate for not getting that free addition. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part. Also, Kat may have assumed this in her count of slots for my hypothetical, and that's why her total was 2 more than mine. Anyway, for now let's just assume that isn't the case and that Premium players who own GR will get 2 tokens for the 2 slots that came with it and not 2 additional ones beyond that.
In that case you can just add up all your slots in excess of 12 on a server plus any slots you have yet to claim then add 2. So if you have 3 extra slots total you'd get 5 tokens. In your case that seems to be 2 free plus 2 for GR and 1 from some other source such as a VR. Here's ParagonWiki's list of character slot additions
It makes sense when you think about it some of the expansions came with extra slots originally and some didn't. I expect that the simplest way to figure it was +2 tokens per expansion.
So we know of the following you should get.
* 2 tokens
* + 2 tokens per expansion
* + 1 token per year played. -
Inside of instances. This game is almost entirely instanced. It has become easier over time to get ways to move around as well. So you don't see players standing around somewhere farming outdoor missions in the general zone instead they are all inside of missions playing.

Quote:Given that they want to encourage anyone who has tried the game to come back and play it I am expecting that this will never happen.Oh please do this.
Players, if you thought finding a name that hasn't been taken a problem before, you haven't seen anything yet.
Better start getting ready to add numbers to your names.
Your better off pushing for the unique name restriction being lifted. And letting say 100 people on the same server run around with the name Bob The Mighty if they want.
And yes I know some people don't like that but it is more likely to happen than a name purge. -
Quote:Yes we assume because anything else that they could do for the number of slots on the VIP server would be stupid.We assume; I'm not sure I've seen this specifically addressed by a redname?
So yes based on the red name comments indicating that VIP's have a 12 unlocked slots per server that this includes the new VIP server. -
Quote:Hi Samuel, you might want to check out Ghost Falcon's post in this very forum. He lays out that the 400 PP's = US$5.00 and gives some sample prices from the store.I'd like to see a red name say this, however. As players, we're really just guessing and fearing and hoping.
Interestingly he points out that VIP's get the 400 points, 1 free server transfer, and free access to the signature mission arc a US$5.00 value.
So from what they have stated we will be getting 1 story arc a month released along with regular booster pack level stuff along with regular issue releases.
So for my money I think we will be seeing at least as much content as we get now and probably more content released than we have seen in the past. But that is just my take on it. -
-
Thank you for that post Ghost Falcon. That was a nice informative list. Now I have a solid feel for where you are going to aim prices in the store and what a Paragon Point is worth.
-
Quote:My fuzzy memory says that was answered in the massive thread up in the announcement forum. Anyway as I remember it the points are awarded on your billing date.Okay, I haven't seen this other question I have clarified, so I'll ask it. Regarding the 400 Paragon Points (PP) we current subscribers get each billing period after July 1st. It says 'every full billing period after July 1st'. My billing cycle is set for the 30th of each month. So what happenes, do I get 400 PP for the July cycle, awarded on July 30th, or do I not get any until August 30th? Am I going to have to let my account lapse for 24 hours - something I'd prefer NOT to do - in order to start gaining those 400 PP right off the bat?

Quote:I'm guessing that they put some of the feature unlocks in as automatic rewards given out based on time. IE you can pay to unlock something or if you expect to play for a long time there is no need to pay to unlock it.This seems kind of odd. One of the features being touted for Paragon Rewards is the fact that we get to choose how to use them. Why also build into the system rigid rewards that Paragon chooses instead of us?
Maybe I hate pet classes. I was told I would choose the stuffs I get for my Paragon Rewards. Now I learn that I can mostly choose, but some stuff is still chosen for me. Since I foresee myself remaining a subscriber, this is not an issue for me, but it does feel kind of odd.
Basically its just a bonus reward to players who have been subscribed for a long time. IE if they have managed to keep subscribed for 3 years than they have X unlocked for them for free if they have to drop down to Premium. The nifty rewards appear to be tied to the tokens while the rewards that link to things you could buy in the paragon store are linked to time accumulated. -
Quote:You don't spend any of your PRT's to unlock the MM & Controller. They are automatically unlocked by you reaching Tier 5 of the Premium Reward Program. IE you accumulate enough months of being an active subscriber.This is an exceptionally stupid idea. What if I don't want to play MMs and Controllers? What if I have precisely zero interest in the ATs? What if I would rather spend my 3 years of Reward Tokens on something else? You're taking away choice and that is A Very Bad Thing. You might as well leave the old Veteran Reward system in if you're going to pull this, because it sounds like it works the same way.
P.S. This change doesn't affect me in the slightest as I will probably only ever bother to play as a VIP (don't see the point in playing with so many of these restrictions, but then you don't really care about non-paying customers I suppose), and I actually do like MMs, so this is my unbiased opinion. -
Quote:After COH:Freedom launches he will be confronted with 2 or more unlock tokens when he logs in the first time. You indicate that he has an existing account so he may have more than just the 2 tokens.All right JUST TO MAKE SURE that i dont tell my friend some wrong info on this question and just to make sure i got it right to
My friends account isnt active right now and he plans on returning pretty quick here as a free player for little bit then move up to VIP but once he starts playing as a free account he will pick the two toons he wants to play on EACH sever? and once he picks 2 toons the rest get deleted?????
Anyway assuming that he only gets the 2 tokens he can pick any 2 characters he wants to unlock or he can unlock 2 empty slots on 1 or 2 servers. His remaining characters remain but are locked out of being able to be played until their slots are unlocked either by buying tokens or upgrading to VIP.
Again that is 2 tokens only not 2 per servers.
[In a fast low voice: Note that you will receive 1 extra token for each year that the account has been previously active. Note that purchases of certain expansions may give you additional tokens. Note that any already purchased tokens remain active and available for use by the player.] -
Quote:That isn't what I take away from Positron's comments. He uses Tiers in reference to Paragon Reward Tokens. As in you achieve Tier 5 at around 3 years. Additionally he states that the unlocking of MM and Controllers happens automatically when you achieve Tier 5.Actually, the way I read this, the unlocking via time played only happens at the time that CoH Freedom goes live. After that, you will buy those types of unlocks using the Paragon Points you buy/earn by being a VIP. So, you get an automatic unlock at 3 ys, but if you have two years of (paid) play time, you will need to unlock via points. It also sounds like there will be some points given as loyalty bonuses as well.
Z
There is no indication that you will have to spend Tokens ever to achieve the tiers. Instead you get a tier for accumulating enough VIP months. Basically if I'm reading that aspect right it is very like the current Vet Reward except with different rewards.
I'm also guessing that much of the current rewards turn into things you can spend your PRT's on.
So from his 2 paragraph comment it looks as though the replacement for the Veteran Rewards Program has 2 aspects.
Aspect 1 - You earn 1 or more, though probably only 1, Paragon Reward Token for each month you are subscribed. Prepaying in advance awards you all of the tokens for your prepayment. These can be spent on various unknown at this time things.
Aspect 2 - Every so many months you earn a new Tier in the Paragon Rewards Program. Each Tier unlocks something. Tier 5 unlocks Master Minds and Controllers.
There may be more to the system or that may be it. We don't know yet but it is pretty safe to say that the 2 aspects I list above are definitely part of the new system. -

Oh god I just flashed on that picture from drudge of the 65 year old guy wearing thigh high stockings, a bikini bottom and top, and a lacy shawl.
I need brain bleach.
Note: On reflection that isn't the worst I've seen. He doesn't have the body type to pull off the look but still it is ?tasteful? Anyway the people of walmart video has much worse in it. -
Quote:Thats a good example. Even better because you can pay a flat one time fee to have access to the rock climbing wall and pool. Or you can keep your gym membership active for 3 years and have them credited to your account just as if you had paid extra to access them.So... Masterminds, Controllers and EATs would be like the rock climbing wall and the swimming pool. If you don't pay your gym fees, you could come run on the treadmill, ride the exercise bike, hit the free weights or use the rowing machine... but you can't climb the rock wall or swim in the pool without an arm band.
I like the gym comparison it works better. -
Quote:That is how they look at it but it isn't how any online game has ever worked. Buying the game and paying your monthly subscription has only given you access. Much like a monthly lease on something.Now I could be really, really wrong, but I think a lot of Premium/historic players are looking at it like this:
Buying City of Heroes is like buying a car. You've got it, it's yours. You can't do anything with it unless you put gas in it--pay your monthly sub. They upgrade and modify the car in all sorts of ways, City of Villains, Going Rogue, various perks, etc. They may quit and rejoin, periodically--but always with the understanding that once they put some gas in the car, they can go wherever they want to go.
And in the whole MM controversy, it's like someone told them, "Here, have free gas! Forever!" And when they get in the car, they find it doesn't have any wheels anymore.
The crux of the issue is explaining the sacrifices/cost of going Premium instead of VIP, as well as recognizing that you're/we're not going to make everybody happy. I'm not saying anyone is wrong or right, I'm just trying to encourage respectful dialogue while waiting for more information.
The problem is that they haven't bought anything concrete but think that they have.
You are right that it is a conflict of vision in how things really work versus how they perceive it to work. And this conflict comes up every single time a game changes. Lots of people claiming rights based on the fact that they bought the game versus people comfortably telling them that no. They clearly have only purchased access and the owner [Paragon Studios] has every right to make what ever changes they want to.
Just look back every issue since issue 0 and you will see this conflict expectations appear. -
Quote:To quote the question.
They mean going to Premium, which means they are no longer paying.
Quote:For premium players that are in a Super Group and decide to go to the free to play mode.. Will they still be in the Super Group or be kicked out once they switch to the F2P?
Which means a confusion about what premium status is.
Just to be clear you are Free only if you have never ever spent a single cent tied to your account on anything COH related. If you spend anything at all even simply have bought the original game at some point and applied the install code then you are a Premium player for ever and ever and ever. -
-
Eh not bad questions though none are pressing and are things that are likely to be answered between now and COH:F's launch.
Unfortunately some have errors of logic in them such as asking what happens if you go from premium to free. Since you can't go from premium to free the question doesn't make any sense. -
Quote:Yes I was glad to see this clarified, my impression had been that you had to spend tokens to unlock something like the MM and Positron clarified that just having around 3 years worth of tokens credited to your account would automatically unlock them.I think this illuminates something that was not entirely clear in previous discussion, at least for me. There is yet another reward structure beyond the Paragon reward tokens. This reward structure is similar to the vet rewards, in that there will be AUTOMATIC unlocks based on length of subscription.
Can we call this reward structure something else to avoid confusion. Something like "Loyalty Tiers" or something, listing what it takes to reach each tier and the rewards for that tier. Such as:
Loyalty Tier 1 (accumulated 6 months paid subscriptions): 1 rename token
Loyalty Tier 2 (accumulated 12 months of paid subscriptions): 1 global slot unlock token
My concern here is that you will have people coming back who PAY to unlock something like access to MMs, not realizing that they will unlock it automatically with two more months of VIP subscription.
That said I expect them to have the information about what is unlocked and how to be posted either in game or on their website. Much like you can look and see what the current veteran rewards are. I won't be expecting to see if for a few months from now though. Just say around the time COH:Freedom releases. -
Quote:Let me try a slightly different example.
Mike and Bob both save their money and buy a retail box of City of Villains. Bob plays a Brute, Mike a Mastermind. They have a blast playing together and leveling up until the company they both work for goes belly up (Poor Bob and Mike). Bob and Mike can't play anymore. Paragon comes along later and says "That's cool. Ya'll can both come back for free. Plus when you can pay you can have even more fun!" Awesome of Paragon!! Bob logs in uses his Global Slot and unlocks his Brute. Smiling Bob is BACK! Bob tells Mike and Mike is now excited to play. Mike logs in, but his MM won't unlock..? He has to use points and then his Global Slot to play is toon. Bob is smiling, and is off to look for his Enzyte costume pack. Mike is still happy to play, but he wants some Enzyte too.
Your still not looking at this right.
NOW - You pay your subscription and you can play. If you don't pay your subscription you can't play.
FREEDOM - You pay your subscription you can play. If you don't pay your subscription you can play most thing but not everything. If you want to play some of the nifty extra things you got to lay down some cash.
So the lesson is pay your subscription and you get it all. Don't pay it and you don't get everything.
