Quote:Except that you are 100% wrong about buying COV giving you Masterminds. No where was that implied or stated when COV was released. Not trying to short change anyone. But I feel firmly that if a premium player purchased the CoV expansion then that the ability to play the MM class is already built into his account.
Now, you VIPs are trying to tell me its not fair that we have to pay to get access to everything and the premium players can pay and get it all. The premium players should have to buy the content to unlock depending on where they let their respective account lapse. If they didn't by GR they don't get access to the goods from GR. If they purchased GR, they get the Dual Pistols set.
That is why I am saying nothing more.
Free NEW players shouldn't be given access to not even CoV content as that should be a purchasable area that might make money. Dangle the carrot.... -
Quote:No you aren't missing anything. As far as I can tell Bloodwynd is complaining that he can't quit paying for his subscription and have everything he would have if he were paying. For some reason he wants to short change the paying customers so that people who play for free get the same stuff but without paying for it.Uhh are you talking about premium players or new players. You keep jumping around and are not making sense.
If the point is new players, how does allowing OLD VETERAN folks WHO COULD NOT PLAY BEFORE IF THEY WEREN'T SUBBED access to 90% of the game have anything to do with NEW players. Those vets who now have access AREN'T NEW PLAYERS!!!
*boogle*
Am I missing something here?

Quote:They haven't actually said. What they have done is indicate that they will be giving a lot more information the closer we get to Freedom going live. So my guess is that we will see those details over the next few weeks.
However, you don't mention any of the following for Premium customers:- Four Stance Emotes. (Complete Collection)
- /e stancehero1
- /e stancehero2
- /e stancevillain1
- /e stancevillain2
- Access to Praetoria.
- Side Switching.
- Electric Control Power Set for Dominators and Controllers (if the premium account has unlocked Controllers in some fashion).
- Demon Summoning Power Set (if the premium account has unlocked Master Minds in some fashion).
- Dual Pistols Power Set.
- Kinetic Melee Power Set.
- Hero and Villain Alignment Merits.
- Fort Trident and the Crucible.
- Four Stance Emotes. (Complete Collection)

Quote:::blink::Alienated by no forum posting access and limited access to already purchased ATs. That is how you alienate a former player.
That is just daft. How is that alienation?
Former players DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ANYTHING RIGHT NOW!
There is that clear? How is giving them some access without them lifting a finger going to alienate them? ??? ???? -
Quote:Oh and you appear to be confused about the goal of I21:Freedom. It isn't to have thousands of Premium players. It is to have thousands of paying players. Freedom provides just enough tantalization to encourage players to spend money even if they aren't subscribed. Really their goal is to maximize the number of VIP players so of course carrots are dangled infront of the Premium players.
Now, I am only speaking for the premium players. I could care less about the New players. The current model seeks to alienate former and returning players and gives no incentive for resubscribing at all.
What you expected everything to be free and require no money after Freedom goes live? Are you daft? -
Quote:Err why should buying the box set give them access to Masterminds or Controllers? Really why? Buying the box set never ever gave you anything more than access to the game in the first place. You had to buy it to play at all. Could not play ever if you didn't buy the game.Hmmm...I did take their model and tweek it. So yea I did make a suggestion on how to implement a far better model.
So even though a premium player like bought at least the initial box set...they are no longer entitled to those ATs because screw them they quit??? How encouraging is that to potential premium players reading this very forum right now?? We want you to come back and pay us your subscription that for whatever reason you stopped paying and to top it off, the toons that you created before you left will be locked until such time as you give in to our demands and pay us.
Whereas I am saying...Welcome back, if you bought a box set or a couple of boxed sets, you get back what you bought with some small restrictions. We encourage you to pay a subscription as it will give you access to certain raids and task forces as well as full access to the incarnate system. We invite you to see all the good we have done since you left. Welcome back!
Now, I am only speaking for the premium players. I could care less about the New players. The current model seeks to alienate former and returning players and gives no incentive for resubscribing at all.
After Freedom launches I don't expect to see the box set sold anymore because you don't have to have it to play. Buying it is no longer the key to even being able to login to the game. Which it is right now.
That is all that buying the box is. Access is all it ever really provided. And note that the caveat has always existed that game play may change. Well guess what they are changing it. Now you don't have to have the CD key at all to play and have a premium or VIP account with the game.
Buying some of the boxes apparently does unlock other stuff for premium players, just not Masterminds or Controllers.
Ah you speak for the Premium players. How nice of them to anoint you their spokes being. -
Quote:1. - It was stated that Controllers and Masterminds use a lot of server side resources. Something that the devs can see and monitor. So because those 2 AT's are far more server intensive they decided to restrict them in some way from players who are not paying. This is why if you either have enough subscription time or are willing to pay they can be unlocked. What I do not agree with:
1. Locking Controllers and Masterminds for premium players who purchased at least up to the CoV box set.
2. VIP server - simply leaves a taste of elitism in my mouth
3. Forum limitation - premium should be able to post
That is it. I am arguing a small portion of this process without taking away from what they are doing. I am for Free 2 Play or Freedom which is essentially the same thing. But not one person thus far as given me a good reason as to why the Controllers and Masterminds should be locked. Positron only stated it would create server lag issues which is not a thing to say. But I think it alienates and punishes former players looking to comeback because they cannot access their former main toon or whatever.
This makes perfect sense to me.
2. Trust me you want the self selected elitists to be isolated off in their own server where they won't be disturbed by the plebeian masses. Otherwise they would be whinging constantly about it and making life more difficult for those who don't pay monthly.
3. Forums required paid staff to monitor them and manage them. Why should players who are not paying a monthly fee have any access to post to the forums? It makes no sense for those not paying monthly to have access. I suppose if they wanted to implement a 400 point per month fee for forum access I could see that. This would help defray the costs of the moderators and community reps. -
Quote:Ah thank you. I had second thoughts about that after I said corruptor. Since I remember one of the reasons for the restriction is that Masterminds and Controllers use more resources than other AT's.Controller, not Corruptor but otherwise I agree with this.
Anyway yes really it just makes sense that trial accounts convert to Free accounts. Not doing that makes no sense at all because after Freedom roles out there won't be any trial accounts. There will just be Free accounts, Premium accounts, and VIP accounts.
So the only reason not to convert existing trial accounts to free would be maliciousness or stupidity. Since I ascribe neither motive to the games developers and staff I don't expect them to just toss trial accounts. -
It is fairly strong signs that yes trial accounts will automatically convert into Free accounts. Then if they purchase any Paragon Points they get bumped up to Premium.
Really it just makes common sense. Free accounts will be essentially trial accounts that can reach the level cap and have some limitations.
Hmm, fair warning if your friend makes a Mastermind, & Controller then they will have to pay to unlock those Archtypes. Basically those two will require specific access to have them unlocked. -
You may want to ask this in the technical forum.

Well it went into closed beta about 2 weeks ago. So.... Generally a closed beta runs 4 - 8 weeks with open beta being 2 - 4 weeks. Generally.
A dev mentioned before October in reference to something that is known to be in I21. So ... Really optimistic would be mid August. Not so likely so generally optimistic early to mid September. If things are tricky and take time to work out ... Late September into October. If things are really complicated and have to go back for redesign 20 times.... after October.....
Yeah, yeah Zman I know I still include October but until it is in open beta we have no real idea so it makes a good fall back month to estimate if things don't go smoothly. Given that they have been working on this for most of a year I actually think September is good for it after getting chastised by Zman. -
-
I expect it to be download only. Not only that they are saying that it will be an incremental download as in you can download a small bit and launch the game to start playing while it continues in the background.
-
1 - Closed Beta Players and the devs.
2 - no clue
3 - No plans to play on the VIP.
4 - I've been subscribed since 2 weeks after launch why would I stop paying my subscription now? -
Exactly, those details haven't been fully explained yet. But what it looks like is that Purchasable means you can spend Paragon Points to purchase it. Limited means you have some level of access to it possibly expanded by spending Paragon Points but by how much is unknown.
For example from statements it is apparent that Premium players can belong to a supergroup. What isn't clear is if this is tied into the Paragon Rewards thing or is instead a purchasable thing. What also isn't clear is if a Premium player can be a supergroup leader or create one. Even with rewards or points.
That is an example of the ambiguity that currently exists and is likely to be cleared up as we get closer to the release of Freedom. -
After all this I'm now picturing Arcanaville coming in and presenting a formula like
T = (V + (2 * G) + (2 * I) + P + 2)
Where V is the number of years veteran.
G = 1 if you own Going Rogue, else = 0.
I = 1 if you were present for the I12 release, else = 0
P is slots purchased
T is total Tokens you get. -
It wasn't a bad pilot though I'm hoping that the character ticks smooth out a bit as the show progresses. They could become real annoying real fast. Otherwise yes it has potential to be good.
-
Well WH13 I'll have to see how they work the new guy in the full mix.
Alpha's, hmm, it could be a decent show but that will depend on how the characters shake out as they develop the characters over the next few episodes. It will depend on if they tone the presentations of the characters ticks down or not. -
Quote:It's on the facebook friday thread in umm. The announcement response forum. Thanks for the answer
, I have completely missed this, several times apparently
. Think you could toss up a link so I can get a look at what I missed?
-
They have answered this several times. The answer is yes.

Quote:Heh, I used the first and only server transfer I've ever bought to pull the character I created on Freedom for the stress test off of it when the stress test was over. Because I liked the character and didn't want to abandon the poor fellow to Freedom.Yes, we are.
And just like when free transfers were offered, there was this HUGE assumption that, gee, nobody's going to want to stay anywhere else.
It was wrong then. And the assumption people will only, or primarily, want to start on Freedoom - can't say it's right, either, given the *new* players I see on my not-Freedom-or-Virtue servers.
... ... ...
And "Bigger is better" isn't always true. -
Hmm Interesting so Jack stays injured and no one else on earth can die. Heh. That's really screwed up.
Oh and here is link to watch it streaming. -
Quote:Nope I'm definitely going to have to say that it was the attitudes of the vocal PvPers in the Beta. They basically screwed everyone else over and were a major contributing factor to what happened. The devs were initially working reasonably with people until the vocal group exploded. Certainly the devs involved were one side but as much or perhaps more of a contributing factor were the militant vocal PvP folk. They essentially ruined it for themselves.I agree with a lot of what you said but not the part about PVPer attitudes being the main reason we got what we got. It would take a lot to convince me those changes were not going in no matter what - at least the ones that most people were complaining about, like heal decay, travel suppression, and DR. Hell, the anti-gank code was only pulled because it didn't work.

Well apparently there is at least one race out there that use Kheldian's as the core of their star drives. Killing the kheldian in the process. So it may well be easier to cross dimensions than space.
