I'd like it to change so that regular enhancements never expire, personally. Getting relatively weaker when you level up is a facet of the game that's never made sense. The existence of basic IOs doesn't make it any more sensible - rather, it highlights the nonsense.

Quote:The first thing I thought when I heard about this change to nukes, is that I finally knew where I was gonna stick that KB->KD converter on my Energy blaster.Oddly enough Nova is the only example where I'd rather have more damage with the crash, due to the knockback involved. Scattered not-quite-dead enemies, ick.
The point-blank nature of most nukes really never bothered me, since I activate them mid-jump and am at least 40 feet away once the rooting immobilizes me. (the instant acceleration of combat jumping really helps to in-and-out this way). -
There's been many times I wished we could lower it to -2 or -3. Or that when we shut off bosses in the difficulty, that it would keep us from facing Elite Bosses as well.
Those are my thoughts on difficulty. -
Quote:I could go all the way to 50 without ever getting a recipe that would readily sell at the AH, much less sell for a significant amount of Inf. I drop all salvage that will readily sell for at least as much as I'd get from a vendor plus the AH fee at the AH, the stuff that won't readily sell goes to the vendor - which is most of it. At higher levels I find that the largest amount of steady income I get comes from vending all the basic IO recipes I get.Funny, I manage to accumulate enough inf for IOs through natural play. Or do you not consider selling recipes and salvage on the AH to be "natural play"?
Generally speaking, this doesn't get me enough to fully slot out a character with IOs. When I'm really lucky I might get enough to slot one power - or just one slot depending on the IO. Of course, depending on the set I'm looking for, several pieces of it might be practically non-existent on the Market, which is yet another impediment to the process.
And at that point, there's still the part where I have to go about crafting the IOs in question, which is not "natural" gameplay for me any way I look at it. Unless I spend (what is usually, IME) a bit extra and buy already-crafted IOs. -
-
If I accumulated the resources to readily slot any given character with IOs through natural play, I would do so. But that's not what happens - what happens is that I accumulate the resources to slot the character with SOs, which are also conveniently available from vendors. So, yes, I suppose I "choose" not to get involved with IOs because the system is in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the leopard."

Indeed. It may cause me to actually bother taking Nukes with Defenders/Corruptors, too. And I'm thinking I'll have to put that Overwhelming Force KB->KD converter in my Energy Blaster's nuke now.

Love the nuke changes.
And I love the Presence changes. I often find myself running out of powers I want to take, what with Fitness being inherent and the fact that I hate the Fighting pool. This leaves me throwing in crazy things like Concealment or Presence just to fill space. -
I disagree with the thread title - if they're going to "Fix Everything", then they should absolutely fix nerfs while they're at it. Nerfs have long been in need of repair.

Quote:It would be be perfectly acceptable if I had *any* other attachment to the character. So I'd say that's less of a fail and more of a win. So your character isn't a ripoff of a song's lyrics. That's a good thing from where I'm sitting
Personally, the novelty of some of my characters is why I keep them around. My Fire/Rad controller stopped being fun in the mid-late 30s, but I've kept Sympathetic Devil around and occasionally log in with him just because hitting my "Pleased to meet you, $target, have you guessed my name?" or "What's troubling you, $target? Is it the nature of my game?" macros amuses me. It's the only reason he's inched his way up to 45.
That's not to say that all of my characters are novelties. But now I have no attachment to this Slime Creature and have to go back to the drawing board. -

I presume that the people who make such decisions are in a better position than most (or all) of us to make an informed decision about whether CoH can or should be on Steam. I don't think there's any information we can give them that they don't already have access to on such matters. Steam isn't exactly a secret internet novelty these days. Thus, when it starts sounding to me like some grandiose Pros-n-Cons pitch to the devs I feel compelled to point out that it has already crossed their minds (and, for whatever reasons, was ultimately rejected).
I don't have an axe to grind here (if there were a suggestion that CoH be *solely* available through Steam then I would), or an argument to win.
How "cool" it would be to have CoH on Steam is entirely subjective and relies on a lot of supposition. *If* it brought in some decent players, that could be cool; but if there was more chaff than wheat it might be more of a detriment. If it brought in more money which allowed the devs to make even more new items, that could be cool; but if many of those items were Steam exclusives it would absolutely suck. It's hard to have an opinion on shaky ground like that. I can give reasons why I currently don't use Steam, many of which boil down to the fact that it's basically useless to me, but they may be moot in the bigger picture. ::shrug:: -
Quote:Fair enough. I've had similar regrets at one time or another. I only piped up here because one particular statement bugged me. I doubt that issues intertwined with the payment model will ever be resolved to *everyone's* satisfaction. But, at the very least, I hope you can get around the performance issue.@Tenzhi and Biowraith: Understand when I originally made the topic, the issue of IOs and other such was particularly jabbing at me since I wasn't logged in long enough to really re-experience my performance issues (and was too annoyed at the other stuff) and didn't get to experience those in their full glory until I logged back in later to go try to do a Mayhem mission. IOs are an important point, sure, but one that can be overcame if enough other factors work out. It's also worth noting that I'm kind of annoyed at several people making posts as if I'm just saying "GIMMIE" and am also annoyed at myself for making this topic to begin with.

Quote:You said that not being able to play your characters as you used to (read: with IOs) considerably deters you from deciding to return. That sounds like a hinging point to me, and it seems to be a focal point judging from the discussion. In other words, you're either trolling me or being dense. I never said my decision to return hinges on IO access, though IOs are important to my enjoyment of the game and just the one thing that is brought up the most in this topic.
Furthermore, your solution to that particular issue seems to involve you being able to play with IOs for free, which makes the statement "Why do people assume that someone wants everything handed to them for free when they have any sort of issue related to the current payment model?" seem a bit disingenuous regardless of other issues you may have which are not related to the current payment model (such as performance issues with the Mac OS).
That apparent inconsistency struck me as odd, and I was merely pointing it out. If I were going to purposefully "troll", I might do something like start a thread on a topic that I would admit to having past incendiary experiences with right in the OP. To really spice things up, I might use combative language and presumptuous indignation right there in the beginning. I believe I've seen that tactic used to great effect somewhere before, though I wouldn't be inclined to presume to know the motives of others... -
I make googlets (a diminutive hyperbolic googol) of characters inspired by any number of things - dreams, myths, chemical names, songs, etc. But, alas, my most recent song-inspired creation was a failure due to me relying entirely on my memory.
There I was, staring at the character creation screen, unable to create the character I made in Beta for Water Blast for various reasons and pondering options...
When it occurred to me that the set might aesthetically play well with Poison. So I chose a Corruptor with Water and Poison and went to the powers tab to green up the water, and with some fiddling I found it to be rather delightfully slimy.
"Slime," said I, "why, I could make a slime creature... from outer space!"
And then I made the mistake of going from memory of a song I hadn't heard in ages. I gave it a space suit with exposed hands and a bubble helmet. For the head and hands I chose the Bio-Organic look with blue veins (which, I reasoned, could represent fungus) and gave him Insect Eyes.
I was amused! But later, while at work, I found myself puzzling over the half-remembered lyrics and looked up the song. To my dismay I found that it was their *hands* rather than their *heads* that were covered with fungus, and they had *reptilian* skin (and an evil-looking grin). And worse, their powers would probably be best represented by something like a Rad/Psi Blaster. And the FAIL crashed down upon me. I will have to delete it and try something else. Bah. -

Quote:And sensible patrons would generally move away from puking men rather than continuing to stand near them just to have something to complain about. Reality can be a double-edged blade.bouncers would get rid of puking men long before they would cat girls, skanks and tentacle people.... just look at comic cons... strip clubs.... fantasy fairs for proof of that.
-
The biggest and most important detail that renders everything else moot is that the decision was already consciously made to take CoH off of Steam. Given that, any debate of Pros and Cons is just so much dust in the wind.
-
No, it ain't enough.
Now, if I could take all those slots on servers I don't play on and move them to the server I *do* play on... well, that would at least be far more useful to me than my growing pile of server transfers. -
One of those cheesy activity books based on a comic book property with colouring pages, puzzles, connect-the-dots, etc.

I could go for Armor/Assault (or Armor+Support/Assault), Armor/Ranged, or Armor/Control. Especially Armor/Control - I think I'd make the APPs for the AT Assault-esque.
