Alternatively, one can just filter out such responses in one's head. Which has the added benefit of working even when such posts get quoted. It also sidesteps the apparently inevitable temptation to post an "I don't see what everyone's getting so riled up about, all I see from Poster X is 'You are ignoring posts from this user' messages" reply, which is kind of the forum equivalent of sticking one's fingers in one's ears and going "LA-La-LA I'm not listening!"...

Out of the Rocky films, I like the first movie second-best.

I didn't have any expectations going into that movie, since I was unfamiliar with the source, and I ended up finding it rather enjoyable. I read the comic book/graphic novel some time later, but I don't really recall it.

If there were any movie that I could easily place on the top of my disappointment list, I think it might be Star Trek IV: Save the Whales. It *might* be the only movie I'd have on such a list. While there are numerous movies I dislike to varying degrees, there aren't that many that I was expecting to be better than they turned out.

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but the only one that comes immediately to mind that might need to be altered is where Captain Hammer defines what the Hammer is.

Until one of those characters gets their own title? It seems to be a nonsensical distinction to me.

And would it also be nonsensical for the world of The Amazing Spider-man to be destroyed simply because The Spectacular Spider-man's world was destroyed?

Or, going back to Superman, for the world of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen to be destroyed?

Putting aside that the difference between "constant" and "occasional" is quantitative rather than qualitative, the lack of a visible cause isn't an inherently bad thing. One doesn't need to be shown a glass being dropped in order to see a broken glass. Is it bad writing for an issue to reference something that happened in a (potentially distant) prior issue within the same series that the reader happened to miss?

If they hadn't killed the aggro cap, I'd still take my high level Tankers on a Perez Park Parade every now and then. I miss those.

See, from my perspective continuity is just continuity. Differentiating it as "shared" when there's more than one title involved makes as little sense to me as doing so if there just happens to be more than one character involved.

The best way to deal with that is to cultivate ears that act like pitcher plants, with hairs that keep 'em from backing out and a slurry of digestive earwax. Yum!

Yeah, I've created a few characters on Exalted, but Virtue is my home server and I see no reason to move. Now, if Exalted was always on double XP or something, then I might frequent it...

It's not a picture that I find disturbing. There's nothing to even properly indicate size, so the spider could be big or it could be tiny. ::shrug::

Probably a VEAT that doubles up on the Leadership abilities and focuses on Power Pools. Buffs for everyone and powers that everyone can use.

A terrible attempt indeed, given that I didn't specify any individual nor is there necessarily anything insulting about applying a stick to one's backside (indeed, some folks around here have a math-stick positioned rearward, and are invaluable because of it). Insult was not my intent, though it was a bit cheeky. I was rushed for time and glibness was a necessity. I'll attempt to be more detailed now, and I'll even bring it back around to anime.

The problem as I see it isn't necessarily bad writing. Some might jump to that conclusion given inconsistencies that arise, but even if comic titles were treated as 'separate shows with shared characters/circumstances' rather than a conglomerate of continuity (as the article was suggesting) many of these inconsistencies would change very little if at all. The Hulk could still be the Hulk in his comic and a super-hero in The Avengers title. What would mainly change is the perception of the reader, and if that's what's important to change then it isn't the writing which is bad but rather the reading.

Inconsistencies are bound to arise even within a single long-running series that isn't carefully planned from beginning to end. This is particularly true if multiple writers are involved, but could happen even with a single writer. A number of inconsistencies may naturally be overlooked by many people, but there will nearly always be a group of them that analyzes and dissects it to find things that the average person won't see without it being pointed out. And the more episodic the content, the easier it is to overlook such errors.

And that brings me around to anime continuities as compared to comics (and from this point it'll just be a general statement more towards the topic at hand that just happened to segue from this sub-discussion)...

Anime are often based on manga that had a single author, and some of the best, IMO, are the ones that have a definite beginning and end - particularly if the jokers in charge of translating it to anime don't feel the need to throw in a couple-hundred episodes of pointless, meandering filler. Unlike most - western? American? - superhero comics, they get to tell a complete story (often originally constructed by a single author) generally without much unplanned discontinuity. Indeed, some of the more highly-lauded "western" superhero stories share this self-contained kind of presentation, free of ties to a convoluted morass of current continuity.

That tickles.

While I'm amused by the article and can at least partially agree with the sentiment, the proof kind of falls apart with the simple realisation that just because the child daydreamed St. Elsewhere doesn't mean the characters involved couldn't really exist outside of the daydream. Heck, the daydream itself isn't necessarily real - it could have been part of the Dallas dream (which was all the fault of Q anyway). Playing Tetris with the various bits of continuity to try and get them to fit together is half the fun, as the author proved by having fun doing just that.

Interesting. I was expecting that the smoke/flash bomb power would end up becoming an AoE DoT/debuff/taunt gas bomb of some sort. But I find the prospect of having Envenomed Blades and Burst of Speed in the set intriguing.

I know what Exalted is, and am passingly familiar with the mentioned poet, but even that and the protection afforded by your parenthetical statement weren't enough to stop my brain from imagining a sort of Homer-Simpson-and-Guts-from-Berserk hybrid...
