If I could play this game offline and mod it to my heart's content it would be even better for me than it ever was as an online game.
-
I wish you luck in this endeavor, but I don't expect it will bear fruit.
-
I'll probably be around the forums until the end, but it's likely I won't log into the game again. If I do log in, I'll probably delete most of my characters and spend a bunch of leftover points on soon-to-be-useless items.
-
I'm a fan of anthropomorphic characters. I'm particularly a fan of dragons. I often like monstrous characters that are far from human - one of my favourite creations is The Grey Amoeba.
-
All I can think about regarding this fiasco and videos is that scene in Fox & the Hound...
Goodbye may seem forever...
Farewell is like the end...
But in my heart's the memory...
And there you'll always be...
Alright, just thinking about that made me tear up a bit. That's the movie that always makes me cry - everyone gets *one*, right? -
There's been a number of 'boycott NCSoft' threads and sentiments passed around...
And while I'm not actively going to boycott them, I can say that without City of Heroes they have *nothing* that interests me. -
And the depressing wistfulness continues to pile up...
-
My characters will probably be wherever they currently are. I doubt I'll be able to bring myself to log into the game before it finally shuts down. But if I do, I might spend my couple-thousand points on ridiculous things like Super Packs.

Quote:I played DCUO a great deal during beta. There were things I really liked about it (in particular, it presents a city environment that's far more impressive than the other two superhero MMOs), but I found the characters to be too fragile for my liking in the long run (I had a similar issue with Champions). I may find myself giving it and/or Champions Online another try when the superhero bug bites me. Both games are more action-oriented than CoH. I'm not sure I can take playing Champions again, though... I still have nightmares about shutting down ALL of the beacons because they're transmitting a high frequency signal that drives the Qularr insane... *twitch*I kinda want to give DCUO a try, if only because I love the DC verse. Not so big on the fact that it's SOE though.
So, what's Tera like?
TERA (it's an acronym for The Exiled Realms of Arborea, I believe) is a fantasy action MMO. It actually works by default with the XBOX 360 and PS3 controllers. The advancement in it is pretty smooth and quick and I personally enjoy the combat, though the instanced dungeons can be difficult. It's the only fantasy MMO that I've ever advanced a character near the level cap, and I may be playing it for another month or two at least. It's not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm having fun with it. Alas, though, their forums (not the community but the forums themselves) are terrible. -
Quote:My understanding was that a significant part of the six million or so dollars NCSoft was under for Q2 was due to gratuitous marketing expenditures for Guild Wars 2. I don't blame the game, I blame NCSoft.I've actually seen a few people blaming City of Heroes' closure on the launch of GW2, which is really kind of sad and baffling since Guild Wars is developed by ArenaNet and is PUBLISHED by NCSoft.
Really, the sad truth is that Anet and its games are just as much at the mercy of NCSoft's 'keeping the books LOOKING good' as Paragon Studios has been.
If I say anything negative specifically about Guild Wars, it's because I hated the series before any of this happened. -
Thanks, Zwill, and everyone at Paragon. If I've managed to annoy anyone there at any time, I don't really *apologize* for it, but at least take it as given that there was no ill will meant.
*sigh* I just cancelled my VIP sub, with a slightly weighty heart - and not just from the fat. -
Unfortunately, I've never found another superhero game worth sticking with for any length of time.
But recently I've been playing the heck out of TERA Online. It's the first fantasy MMO to really grab me and keep hold for any length of time. -
Personally, I've been playing TERA a lot lately. I wish there were a decent superhero game to move to, but alas...
-
NCSoft doesn't have anything else I'd spend money on.
-
I found Iron Man 2 disappointing because it gave us a Supervillain and then failed to give us a decent climactic battle with said Supervillain.
-
...but despite all that I've stuck with this game more ardently than any other (except, perhaps, Rock Band). This news has struck me nigh senseless straight out of left field with a blind-side tackle that would put Shonuff to shame. And, apparently, the employees of Paragon Studios were similarly shocked.
I've had somewhat heated arguments with numerous people, but I've never held it against any of you. Indeed, it wouldn't be inaccurate for me to say that I've spent far more time on the message boards than in-game, and have maintained my subscription at various points solely for the purpose of posting here. I will miss you all when the forums close down. -
Darn our attractive warm-bloodedness and enticing habits of sleeping within dark caverns of insulative cloth.

Quote:All manner of arthropod creep me out (especially centipedes - in one apartment I lived in there was a centipede that would come out of nowhere and do a couple of laps around my wall at the same time every night), but I'm generally happy to avoid them rather than destroy them when possible. Despite the fact that they (particularly spiders) seem to want to make my home their home. As long as they keep out of my personal space, I don't mind them, but some of them seem *determined* to invade my personal space. Even then, if I can orchestra a way to transport them outside that's my preference. My usual policy. Don't tick it off, and it won't try to kill you. Don't make it feel threatened, don't invade its home, and you'll be fine. This has served me when encountering copperheads, rattlesnakes, bears, bobcats. No idea what I ever did to tick of recluses, come to think of it...

Quote:Well I'd agree those two might have to fight for "which was the 3rd or 4th best Indiana Jones movie so far".
Followed by The Last Crusade, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and finally Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in order of preference. Had Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ended differently, it might be close for me between it and Raiders. -
Quote:That spider is only slightly creepy (it's no Eye Spider)... and from the way it's stumbling around, slightly drunk as well. The Cthulu Spider (Argiope) on a human hand, for scale. And pants wetting.

I don't watch the Coffee Talks. I find the video format to be tedious, and I prefer the Lumpy Space Zwillinger voice my head generates for LSZ's textual words to the real thing.
That said, I enjoy the information that trickles onto the forums from the Coffee Talks - moreso when it's new and exciting, but sometimes the pointless silliness serves to amuse as well.
I miss the breakdowns that that one guy used to do (was it Von Krieger or something?) with the various screenshots. -
I'm not a fan of Brutes. I find them a bit too squishy and don't care much for the quest for Fury.
