Gold membership also allows you to make freeform characters rather than be stuck with an Archetype, allowing you to mix and match powers from all sets.

Brigandine says it gets better with the slotted passives, but back when I was playing being barely able to fend off 2-3 enemies was pretty much the rule with the best exception being Regeneration until it got neutered (I don't recall if it was a direct nerf or a consequence of changes to enemy damage). Invulnerability and... Defiance? were situationally strong but often got easily curb-stomped, Lightning Reflexes was a joke, and Offensive passives were meaningless wastes of time. That was one of the things that majorly put me off the game.

At the top of my list is my namesake, Tenzhi. He's a regular alter ego of mine, whose story varies from universe to universe. He usually takes the form of a short little old man with large white eyebrows and facial hair, with the void of the universe where his eyes should be. Occasionally he takes the form of a dragon (exhibiting some physical characteristics similar to Chinese dragons).
And there's Eustace Black, whose story can be read here. I never got him past the middle levels, but I really enjoyed creating his look and backstory. -
Quote:I went through the irritating process of linking my old ChO account to a PWE account and didn't seem to have any problems logging in to the game after I re-installed it from disc. It patched surprisingly quick, too.I created a perfect world account first and downloaded the client from that and logged in to the game after install. Had no trouble at all.
I probably won't get around to actually playing until this weekend (I'll probably get in on the 3-month sub for 33% off sale, unless that ends before the weekend), but regardless of how that goes, their forums (not the community therein, mind you) suck. -
Hard to say... it's the sort of thing that could potentially put me off a game for good. It took me a very long time to reroll my namesake after they killed Regeneration's appeal for me because I'm loath to lose character progress. I don't even like being temporarily reduced by exemplaring.

Personally, I like the stylized graphics for Champions Online, though I prefer to turn off the similar-to-cel-shading-outlines.

Quote:I imagine the diminished publishing and distribution costs figure into the decision.I wonder how that's doing for sales. Not everyone has a tablet... or wants to read comics on their computer.
Personally, I stopped my subscription to Shonen Jump because I was getting annoyed at the growing pile of them. A digital version would be much more convenient for me. I may look into it if/when I get a Kindle Fire. -
Quote:Being stuck in an animation means less when being able to move makes little to no difference in whether you get hit or not.Speaking of which, I also like our slower attacks here. Sure, it sucks to be stuck in a 2-second attack animation, but that longer window means the actual animation can look considerably smoother. Wow and its ilk look really spastic in this regard, especially when moving.

From the Wikipedia entry for Shonen Jump:
"In October 2011, Viz announced that Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, a weekly digital version of the magazine would be made available to the public beginning on January 30, 2012. Viz also released its final Shonen Jump print publication in March of that year after Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha was released." -
Ugh. Trying to link my account to login to the forums over there is proving to be quite a headache. And since I can't access my email from work, it appears I won't easily be able to login from the place where it's most important to me. And I swear I played Jade Dynasty, but neither of my e-mails is linked to a Perfect World account.

If it went double I'd drop down to F2P. If F2P was no longer available at that point then I would drop the game.
Indeed, at this point even if the game gets a last minute save I'm going to be a bit leery about continuing my sub just to have the rug pulled out from under me again a scant few more months down the road. -
While I'm not a big fan of blocking, I absolutely hate consumables.
Of course, I'm also not a big fan of loot/equipment-based superheroes, but given that I'm not in denial about enhancements I can't really count that as a point against ChO.
I was just looking at their official wiki, and it looks like the defensive abilities may still be rather weak. Weaker than an unslotted Tanker. Still, I'll probably give it a try again in the not-too-far-flung-future. -
Quote:I was afraid that was going to be the case. It sounded like a good idea, but then I began thinking about individually manipulating potentially hundreds of those character blocks, and that's before even considering placing them in the world where you want doing what you want them to be doing.Considering the shot I want requires a full zone, all gathered in one place, I am not demoediting individuals into the shot.

Quote:Can you use the Demo File info if we post it over in The Demo File thread in the manner described by Thor's Assassin? Or is that method liable to be too cumbersome?Yep I was on earlier. And if the beta server weren't VIP only, I'd see about having people transfer the characters there and do my filming there. Oh, well.

Yeah, the concept seemed to baffle the devs when several of us brought the complaint up during beta. I have nearly filled up Virtue with characters - and may have done so multiple times over considering the fact that on numerous occasions I had to delete characters to make room for more. Very few of them are at the level cap - most of them are mid-level.

I went through a phase of going around trying numerous MMOs, and out of every MMO (heck, every game *period*) I've ever played, EVE Online was by far the most tediously boring. Couple that with the fact that the game is essentially about socio-political-PVP of the most despicably cutthroat variety and EVE Online gets the number one spot on my list of Worst Games Ever.

Quote:Some of them do, but many of them have mouth parts that are too small to bite humans. Apparently, there's an Asian variety that's prone to biting people which has been introduced as a "bio-friendly" sort of pest control in relatively recent years that is becoming a household nuisance. But when I was a kid, the ladybugs didn't bite they just flew away home.No one without first hand experience ever accepts this as true.
Those with first hand experience will back me 100%.
Ladybugs bite. They bite hard. In a side by side with red (not fire) ants, I'd rather be bitten by the ant. Spring is a bad time of year to be around them. They get snotty and mean. -
I sincerely doubt that. How many character slots do you get? It was a rather anemic amount before. I imagine it's just as anemic now, and if they've expanded on it at all it requires gobs of cash.

Quote:Just a beloved game and beloved characters, with collateral damage done to the beloved community. That might be overstating the damage here. No beloved pets have died as a result of this decision.
'It's just business' doesn't magically remove evil from a decision any more than 'I did it for science!' or 'I was just following orders'. Indeed, the stereotypical mafioso villain often cites the business motivation before enacting some rather despicable deeds. -

I had an account for Champions once (I was there for beta and the disappointing launch and a couple months after)... haven't checked in in awhile, so I don't know if it disintegrated or got hacked or something.
The game wasn't nearly alt-friendly enough - the lack of character slots was terribly restrictive. Characters with defensive abilities were far too squishy, and characters that focused on offensive abilities weren't damaging enough to make up for being ridiculously fragile. They slowed down advancement so that instead of being able to follow different paths with different characters you had to do pretty much every story arc/area with every character.
But I liked the free-form power selection - I had a character whose gimmick was a variety of breath weapons which was the only character I got to high levels. If they've killed that with their changes I'll likely be even more disappointed with the game, unless there's been a dramatic enough increase to defensive/offensive abilities to make up for the restrictions.
