  1. I had assumed that, since "ubiquitous" was derived from Latin, it would be a French word, too. I'm sorry.

Go to the PlayNC store, set the language to English (US), then shop for the City of Heroes VIP starter kit. Or just go here.

For reference, the European version of the game can be bought
    here.

There are almost no differences between the two games. (Add-on codes like the costume codes the developers hand out work with only one version each, for example.)

Note, however, that you will have to pay for your subscription and paragon points in dollars if you create an North American account. This may cause additional costs to your credit card for international use and/or currency conversion. Also, some European payment options (like Paysafecard) are not available for NA accounts. You have been warned.

Name displays as Very Common for: character list, team window for teammates.

This is the weirdest damn bug I've ever seen.
I guess this is one of the "auto translation" bugs. Apparently the game looks for a certain list of words and automatically replaces them with their translations. Sometimes, the auto translation manages to kick in even if it shouldn't.

For example, the redside equivalent to an archvillain is a hero. If you're running your client in German mode, this word gets automagically replaced by Held (which is the German word for "hero"). Unfortunately, "held" is another word on the list, so the translator kicks in again and translates "Held" (as in "hold, held, held") to Festgesetzt (which is German for "stuck", or "held").
(I assure you, those heroes are pretty tough, even though they're called "Festgesetzt".)

I assume that since "ubiquitous" is the French word for "very common", the translater reads this as French, notices that your client is set to English, and replaces the character name with its "English" translation wherever it (the auto translator) is used. That's why you get the translation in some places, and the original name in others.

First of all, you don't need that many slots in Elude. Unenhanced Elude soft-caps your defense already, so all you really need there is recharge - if you actually want to keep the power at all. (It can be useful for PVP, in Incarnate Trials, when you need an endurance boost, or when you're no longer softcapped for being exemplared down to level 33 or higher, but once your chara reaches the defense softcap, you'll use Elude very rarely.)

You can move one slot from Elude to Health and Stamina. The Performance Shifter proc avoids diminishing returns and on average offers more endurance per second than the first lv. 50 IO, so you could very well use a second copy here. For Health, I'd recommend a Numina's Reconvalescece +Heal/+Recovery, or, if you have the resources, a Miracle: +Recovery. This should take care of your endurance problems.

You didn't slot Energy Torrent, so I assume you're not relying too much on that power. Maybe you could replace it with Combat Jumping? That power costs almost no endurance to run, slightly increases your defense, and could even take a special IO (like the Kismet +ToHit or a Luck of the Gambler: +Recharge) later on.

There are some set bonuses for positional defense, but since Super Reflexes can softcap without the need for defense set bonuses, I wouldn't use set bonuses for defense but build for something else, like recharge.

Finally, if you don't mind the cost (or the effort to earn all those hero merits), an easy way to get more defense is putting the PVP +3% defense IO in Tough. (Note that the bonus will be active even if you are not actually using Tough.)

On the other hand, I don't remember any announcement that it was ever supposed to award access to the Midnighter Club to anybody else except for the mission holder. (Also, while I cannot be sure, I believe it worked like this back when Cimerora was introduced.)

This might be a bug fix rather than a change of intent.

  7. If you have access to another computer who already has the full game installed, just connect the two machines via LAN and copy over the game folder (with all its files) from there.

When Titan Weapons was released, I got the feeling that they wanted to see how players would react to a "weapons pack". They might have limited the number of available titan weapons intentionally for this purpose. I'm hoping for more weapons in the future.

I'm not worrying too much about that powerset; they already stated that there would be a lot of staves to choose from.

I'm sorry for being unprecise. Usually, when the players in our SG talk about powers, "perma" refers to clicks that need to be refreshed but can recharge fast enough to be "on" continuously (like Hasten, for example). "Quasi-permanent" refers to pets that only despawn after their 27¾h timer runs out, so you do not need to click the power more than once (unless you don't need any sleep ).

So, while the two terms look similar, I used them to refer to different things. What other designations would you suggest?

I don't think it'd be hard to code at all.

Voltaic Sentinel is perma out of the box, so it's not a question of recharge. I don't believe it'd be overpowered if the power was a toggle. (It'd be similar to Lightning Field, except for not being centered around your own position and unable to hit several foes at the same time. You don't need to reactivate Lightning Field every sixty seconds, either. And since the sentinel cannot be targeted, it shouldn't be able to draw aggro.)

On the other hand, don't forget that blasters are susceptible to being mezzed. An aggressive toggle would turn off when you get stunned/held/..., so you would lose the sentinel. This would actually weaken the power. Also, the only archetypes that are supposed to have quasi-permanent pets are masterminds and controllers/dominators.

So, I don't see it happening.

  12. Hi everybody!

For some reason NPC costume powers that you buy at the Paragon market show up in the "temporary powers" list, but NPC costume powers that you get from costume codes handed out at conventions or as prices for in-game events appear in the "inherent powers" list.

Now, as far as I know there wasn't too much of an overlap between the costume powers you can have, but there was a Rikti NPC costume sold at the Paragon market a few weeks ago. Does anybody know whether the Rikti code the developers offer as a price in their current forum games is for an identical costume, or is it a different Rikti outfit?

Caleb does not really appear after I get the zone event message.
There might be the slight possibility of a bug, but don't forget that Caleb is a ghost and thus has stealth. You can only see him if you get rather close to him, and he moves quite fast. I recommend forming a team for the search, and it helps if you have some perception powers like Focused Accurarcy available. Finally, throw in yellows as if there was no tomorrow.

Please note that I wasn't talking about archetypes but playstyles. Ranged powersets can be combined with manipulation powersets (blasters), and support powersets (defenders and corruptors).

While blasters do have more primaries than secondaries, you would also want to roll up a few corruptors and defenders if you're going to try out all the powersets. You'd need to save a few ranged powersets for those, so you couldn't use all the ranged powersets on blasters alone.

There are more than enough support powersets to pair up the remaining ranged powersets with, even after you've rolled up one blaster for every manipulation secondary powerset. Melee powersets, however, can only be combined with defensive powersets, so you're more limited there.

Considering the price of a server transfer, I'd assume that if such a feature was ever implemented, its price probably would have to be so high that just buying a new server slot would be the more reasonable alternative anyway.

    Time Lord's Boon

    Hi, everybody,

the Time Lord accolade badge states: "While logged out in either Cimerora or Ouroboros you will earn additional time for your Time Lord Power."

With the help of the great wiki I discovered that the power referred to in the badge's text actually is called Time Lord's Boon. However, I never ever found this power in my Day Jobs, Accolades, or Temporary Powers list, even after logging out in Ouroboros and returning a week later. Logging out in Ouroboros does grant time for my Chronologist power, though.

Is the accolade bugged? Am I missing something? Does it matter which Ouroboros is used? (When I did the accolade the chara was a hero, but by now I changed alignment to rogue, so I'm using the villains' version of Ouroboros.) How can I actually charge up the Time Lord power? Any hints for this one?

Oh, and yes, I do have the accolade badge.

  20. The new launcher is used for PlayNC's file distribution system. It may have its drawbacks, but I never experienced it trying to connect for minutes (and sometimes even hours) to a patch server to get the newest patch, like the old launcher was prone to do.

  21. Well, you can travel to the echo version of Galaxy City with it, so you can use it for new charas to go there for the badges, or just for sightseeing.

Except for the team teleporter, no base teleporter pad is actually needed for anything, it's just a nice thing to have. Back then, with less train stations, no Ouroboros or mission/zone teleport powers, a well-connected teleporter room was a major plus for any supergroup. Today, with all the new ways to travel, if you need the space in your base you could certainly remove a few telepads and probably no one would even notice.

Note, however, that the number of available blueside teleport beacons is even. If you want to get rid of a teleporter in your base, you will also lose a second destination.

This doesn't help against burst damage that can kill you with one hit (if you're already hurt), but it can be a real lifesaver when you're really unlucky and get hit by several attacks in a row.

I just discovered this thread and wanted to thank you for passing this along. I'd really like to be able to choose a larger cursor. My cursor-losing abilities are so great, I have stopped using the mouse and am playing using only the keyboard. (Unfortunately, this limits my usage of location-based powers... )

  25. A while ago I had a hero mission where all the mobs were replaced by Loyal Citizens. Which self-respecting hero would fight those?!

However, whenever the developers add new enemy groups (and/or maps) and the internal numbering scheme changes, such missions get changed again. Back then, I kept the mission for fun, but by now the mission spawns vanguard soldiers and runs in a First Ward flooded office building...
