Whoever wrote that?
They need to do more. Like, lots more. In-game.
I like. I like much. -
Quote:What? That makes less than no sense.Because then the game would be over. There'd be nothing more to do. Or at least it would have to transition into such a different game that it wouldn't really be anything like the one we have now. (which is impossible for all sorts of reasons)
not to mention that us "winning" would imply all the heroes "losing". Which means 80% of the playerbase gets shafted.
That's the problem with heroes and villains. Heroes are reactionary: They defend (and sometimes repair) the Status Quo. Villains seek to tear it down. If your villain succeeds and takes over the world how would you continue to play the game? And how would others?
Heroes 'win' all the time. The villains get arrested, the super weapon gets destroyed, the hero gets the girl.
And yet the Villains are still there and keep coming back. They WILL get out of jail, they WILL gather new minions, they WILL plot again.
So why the hell can't the Villains win? The Hero gets beaten up and sent to hospital. The bomb blows up the Senators house. The girl dies.
And guess what? The Hero WILL recover, there WILL be a new love interest, and Justice WILL take another crack at it.
Any argument counter to that is just damn lazy. -

Quote:Buggered if I'm paying for something that SHOULD be free....One is forced to wonder if being able to charge, say, 800 paragon points for such customizations wouldn't increase the priority on this. I know that I've skipped entire ancillary and patron pools because the current colors clash with my character's colors, even if mechanically those pools are the best thing for me to take.
Since they can't (won't) do it without a greater incentive, maybe the greater incentive will do the trick. -
Quote:Then why are they NOT actually in charge? Why are the Heroes capable of genital-slapping not only the Grandville defence forces, not ONLY the Patrons, but also Recluse himself tanked up on super-jesusbeam steroids machine. And you're demanding to be the god-moded player, who demands to be treated like a special snowflake and to be able to ignore any kind of existing power-structure in the world, just by virtue of being a player.
And that's stupid. There's a world. There are powers in it and you mess with them at your own peril. You don't get to mess around with the Lady of Pain or traipse into Nessus or fight Cain or kick Khorne in the shins or have tea with the Dark Powers without issues.
Personally I wouldn't mind an option to say Screw you to Daos... That would then show a cutscene of you being killed and delete your character. Because that's what would happen. You shouldn't be able to beat Arachnos in a straight up contest of power. Because to dos o would be silly. You're one superpowered person (albeit a strong one) and there are thousands of them in the world.
To quote an old Jedi saying: There's always a bigger fish. Or in this case, you might be a Great White Shark but Arachnos is a school of Piranhas big enough to swallow the moon.
And why then are we, a team of eight villains, able to do what Recluse and his apparently powerful army have been unable to do for YEARS, punch right into the heart of Paragon and kick the ever loving snot out of the Vindicators, Ms Liberty AND the entire Freedom Phalanx, right under Atlas' globe?
Paragon without it's Heroes would have been reduced to rubble and anarchy by now.
And, in turn, Arachnos without it's Destined and begrudging metahuman allies would have been broken over the lawful worlds knee by now.
That's the whole reason the game has a status quo to maintain, it's why it's so successful despite people beating up Heroes and Villains so many times; they counter each others movements. Heroes put away Villain X, bad guys bust him out. Villains capture Captain Y to torture and finish him off 'once and for all!' Heroes go and beat up the guards and rescue him.
I can deal with that whole scenario. Except that it's not even; Villains, with the exception of the more recent arcs (which are great, might I add) get treated like lackeys and like they need Arachnos.
Wrong. Dead wrong. Arachnos needs US. -
Quote:^ This, QFT and agreed withThat's my meme, actually. And you have to admit that Recluse's obsession with the Statesman went beyond Dr. Doom and entered into creepy and weird a long time ago. The man isn't trying to rule the world or increase his power, he's content to just show up on the Statesman's doorstep and throw smarmy remarks at him like a spurned lover. And for his part, the Statesman abandons his calm and flies into an emotional rage every time he sees Recluse (check out the tutorial loading screen comic on Beta) like they had a bitter break-up. I honestly feel that the narrative would do Recluse a HUUUGE favour if it stopped identifying him through his relationship with the Statesman.
What really sinks Recluse's sense of power and villainy is that he runs a shithole that he doesn't really run. Aside from that one signed order to Arbiter Sands, it doesn't feel like Recluse does anything at all but exist as a figurehead, because his entire organisation is corrupt, mismanaged and highly unsuccessful at actually running a nation that runs itself behind their backs, for the most part. The reason people praise Tyrant and poopoo Recluse is that Tyrant is the villain with dignity. He rules his nation with an iron fist and everything that happens is said to have been thanks to him. Recluse, by contrast, simply exists in the Rogue Isles and lives among garbage and ruins. If anything, City of Villains looks more like a post-apocalyptic Earth than anything else.
Fixing villain-side would require giving Recluse a little more dignity as the de facto lord of the realm, possibly by giving him a zone that's less of a shithole, and at the same time giving players more opportunities to oppose him successfully, giving them the sense of having overcome a credible threat. Right now, the game's biggest fail is Arbiter Daos threatening to bring the full might of Arachnos on my head and the game playing my character like he's actually intimidated. Yeah, Arachnos, the dudes I've been slapping around like errant stepchildren since I was level 1, and I'm supposed to be afraid of them? Give me a break! -

Don't. Run. Keyes.
That thing is the work of Satan! SATAN I TELL YOU!! -
Quote:I quite honestly do not have enough back reserves of sarcasm, disbelief, questioning, annoyance and bile to answer that statement in a satisfactory way.Apparently he rolled one up during beta.
Yeah, it was my reaction, as well. After quite a bit of incredulity and laughter. It goes into "Ridiculous dev statements," not quite as high on the "WTH" scale as Jack's "Gameboy" story though.
I don't even think I have an appropriate facepalm picture.
Although this expression sums it up pretty damn well, now I think about it;

Quote:That's because Recluse's 'Destined' scheme actually treats you like a lackey working for bit-part schmucks that I could EASILY grind under my iron-clad boots and then slap the rest silly with the remains of the curb-stomped.When the devs designed CoV, players complained that they were forced to serve a crazed dictator and his evil organization - they took that feedback onboard when designing GR and the Paretorian storyline, and now players are complaining about being forced to not serve a crazed dictator and his evil organization
Whereas Cole is the real deal; you CAN do it for the glory, and GET the glory. Heck, you can even join Scott and do it 'for the evulz' but you eventually have to turn your back on that as well...for some reason.
It's like the recent CoT costumes, actually. 'We're giving you the stuff you asked for!' holds bugger all weight when its NOT the same stuff you asked for. People asked not to have to work for the 'lackey's-ville' villains, NOT the Villain that actually gave you what you asked for. Much like people asked for Circle of Thorns costumes, not lame WoW-ripoff clones that looking nothing like the parts they asked for...
But then again, none of this post will matter, because you'll give it the same consideration you give ANY post that doesn't fit in your ideal world view that's as patronising and 'as you like it' than any dictatorial view out there... -
Quote:As a Bots/Traps player...I concur.I'd like to read a pro person argue how MM knock is anything but a liability. The whole argument of how you simply LRN2PLAY and use it efficiently doesn't work that way.
Especially given how pet A.I. is even derpier these days than it used to be. -

It seems that Arbiter Hawk (the dev responsible for the latest Kheld changes) believes that KB must be kept in a Kheld's powers because, REMOVING KB would make a Kheld TOO POWERFUL. KB is not kept because a Kheld needs it as mitigation; it's kepts because it's needed as a LIMITING factor so that a Kheld's AoE potential won't be overpowering compared to other sets (Super Strength was the example given).
What I read is, straight from the Horse's mouth, is Knockback is viewed as purposeful negative hindrance, as a tool to reel back a toon's power.
How the Devs see no-KB as overpowering for a Kheld is beyond me, but that another argument. What I'm asking is that if the Devs themselve see KB as a limitation to a power, how do you pro-KBers keep suggesting it's not?
No, seriously; What the hell?
I'd like to have serious words about that. A bat with nails through it might be necessary too...
I take it he's never PLAYED one, then? Ever? I mean, bloody hell... -
Anyone who has played that godawful section of turret shooting in Deadspace 1; it's that. All over again. "Ok, I'm not too b- OHJEEBUSWHEREDIDTHISCOMEFROM?!"

Quote:Yes, but said characters in Anime (Example, Alucard) always have something else as well, not just pistols. In his case it would be a SS/DP/Badass powerset hybrid. Having JUST pistols doesn't work. Sword/blade and pistol, yes.Well a power set is a slight De-railment of the thread, though the OP would highly desire it. But who said it had to be exclusively melee? Something like a 1-2-3 combo that sends an enemy flying with kb and then pumps a few rounds into them as they fly for good measure could be a "melee" attack. You have a good ole fashioned pistol whip, which is used real world lol. You could also be very short range (say 20 ft) with some attacks and still be forced to be in the thick of things. Look at whip attacks, 20-30 ft.
I mean really all you need to do is watch anime, read comic books, and be creative. Heck as a finisher you could uppercut someone, send them into the air, and unleash on them with your pistols. To keep in line with the very non-realistic comic book flair this would chain a kb on a delay after the KU so that the pistol barrage then sent them flying. See that I just came up with 3/4 attacks required on the spot that wouldn't be truly melee with your pistols as much as it is meleeing with your body and complimenting it with pistols.
Just...meh. We may have to agree to disagree. Because I personally think a Pistols only SCRAPPER set would just look damn silly. -
-
Quote:Which isn't what was being suggested in this thread and never has been to my knowledge, I thought we were discussing an epic pool. Which in the case of scrappers contain all RANGED powers, so pistols make perfect sense.Quote:
There is nothing saying that scrappers could not get a pistol set with slightly different rules than the blaster set and yet use the same animations. Add a melee strike/combo or two (possibly involving hitting AND firing their gun), give them 1-2 ranged attacks like other sets, give them the PBAOE with different values.

Quote:Is that TheO in the long-coat?I've started putting up some of the pictures from the event, and they can be found here
I'll be adding the screenshots to it later

Quote:The Bane Spider EB exists, but only in a *very* (stupidly) limited level range.sunstorm always felt like a fairly generic PPD PB thats an EB/AV
on the arachnos side of things, kind of got me there, i think the only signture that looks fairly generic would be regent korel for AVs, and i think there is an EB ranked bane spider executioner (night widow nocturne is pretty good for generic night widow, but that will limit your arc to a specific lvl range)
thats all i can think of though but i know it doesnt cover as much as we could do with custom enemies
And you're so stuffed if, like me, you want EBs and AVs that are named and slightly customised Banes, Widows or Crabs. -
Quote:^ AgreedFirst Ward is a different situation as that's aimed at expanding Praetorian lore, so everything within would expand the world of Praetoria and either peel away another of Cole's layers or add more depravity to the Resistance. I haven't actually poked around in there on Beta though.
Regardless First Ward expands Praetoria, RWZ was expanding both Paragon and The Isles. It fails horribly at expanding the Isles, First Ward even if slanted towards Resistance will still be expanding Praetorian Lore.
That, and First Ward DOES cater to Villains; you can make some quite nasty choices and cave in more than a few skulls if you so choose.
It's the choice that's important, and everything GR and since related has that choice, I find.
Previous stuff, not so much. -
Although that would mostly be for balance; most melee sets seem to have a cone at the very least in them.
Otherwise, fully agree with the ST-heavy suggestion -
I'd personally hide all serves except Union from the list.
Since, y'know, that's the one I play on. The others are just something to sometimes mis-click on for me... -
Quote:Fan of KnivesI think a knife set would be more focused on fast ST attacks. Knives really don't have enough range to justify all of those AoEs. Also, I think it really makes much more sense as a stalker set instead of a scrapper one.
I do like the crit bonuses though. I think it's an idea that would go quite well with this concept.
Moderate Lethal Damage, Cone
Voila.
