Quote:Because heaven forbid things ever be different from Test to Live, and that the Devs are also doing hardware changes/upgrades and server moves...The VIP Headstart is doubling as an extended beta/stress test. Anyone who says otherwise is putting the spin on it. I totally understand why and also understand why they don't want to refer to it that way.
Owait. -
Quote:AUGH! Why did you have to mention those damn pauldrons?! I'd just managed to forget about it, tooSince we're talking about unfairness...
Why can't I get access to the Witch Hat Villain Side?
What do I have to do to get the Task Force Commander Pauldrons unlocked?
Yes I know those are Costume parts and not powers but they require specific Badges to unlock. So do the Patron Pools. -
Quote:tl;dr version of the above;ARGH!!! <slams head into desk>
Will someone please let Positron know that PvP isn't Magic:The Gathering where if you see someone playing a Yellow Deck (i.e., has Hasten on) then you change the strategies of which cards you pull and play.
"Oh, no! I see that he has Hasten on! That changes... EVERYTHING!!!!"
So, Posi, this "Really?!" goes out to you:
You think that being able to see which powers are being used by a player foe has a significant effect on PvP? Really?!
Really?! Even after Diminishing Returns, it's important to know how much recharge another foe has, even though there can be up to another 100% recharge working invisibly in the background from IO Set buffs? Really?!
You think there's someone out there, who, if they could hide the fact that they have Hasten on, they would be overpowered in PvP... Really?!
<heavy sigh>
This tirade brought to you by how long it's taking to enable Power Pool customization and the inability to even say it's coming.
[CENSORED] PvP, give us the customisation for PvE! Hasten and SS BOTH look fugly as all hell. They are probably the fugliest sfx in the entire GAME. Yes, we get that it needs coding as well as art time. Given HOW MUCH people want PP and EPP customisation, maybe you SHOULD just allocate the coding time and FINISH the damn thing? Just, y'know, throwing that wild curveball nutty idea out there?
And my gods, they ARE working on fixing AE being buggerated?
Well, first time for everything I guess... -
Quote:I think low level Praetorian mobs have a whole host of problems, even if they didn't/don't have different toHit values. But that's a whole other topic.Well, I won't argue that Praetorian enemy groups are more difficult than the garden variety Skulls, Outcasts and Mooks we fight on the Primal side.
I'm just sure it's not due to base tohit values. I ninja-edited my previous post to mention that some goldside groups (Resistance comes to mind) do have +tohit powers.
DE doesn't show in tip missions until the high level ones when we have the powers to deal with them anyway. I won't complain here since the softcap is so easy to reach. It's inconsistent with other groups, yes, but I think the proper correction would be to bring the others up.
Really, really disagree with the second part. Just because it CAN be easy to softcap...well, 'easy' if you consider 'millions of Inf on the market and specific, defence heavy builds' to be easy. Which I for one do not, nor do I believe that should EVER be considered the norm in a game such as this. Standard DE can give my level 47 Invul Tank problems enough as it is in large numbers WITHOUT 65% base acc (story arcs with a friend proved that)
65% base AND Quartz eminators mean that the mobs are pretty much all hitting nearly every time. That's enough to chew up Tanks and Brutes, let alone squishies and SR toons. I do not see that as balanced or, more importantly, fun. -
-
Quote:Well, I simply noticed they seemed to be nastier than Primal mobs, until I noticed one of Arcana's posts on it. If I'm wrong, I blame that. I did check the combat logs a few times and notice higher than normal numbers, however. Are you absolutely sure about this? I was sure that only the Preatorians in iTrials have that value of base accuracy.
Tip DE apparently 'suffer' (i.e. make us suffer) from the same thing, hving 65% base instead of 50%. -
I was just going to quote part of Arcana's post, but it turns out ALL of it is relevant.
And this is where I, again, swear that Posi sometimes really doesn't have a smegging clue about what a lot of us think, ESPECIALLY those of us who give two feth's about the lore.
ALL of my characters are tied into the lore in some way. ALL of them exist in the 'CoHverse'. If they didn't, I wouldn't have made them. I wouldn't play CoH. I play the game and make the characters because the lore and universe interest me.
It's like CoHverse is the slate, and I am the Comic book writer. I can make characters, plot lines, histories and cross-overs.
That ALL goes out the window when they decide to retcon something for stupid metagame reasons (Puddle of Annoyance, looking at YOU)
Short version; Without CoHverse, I would have no characters. Great stories can work just fine within established lore. In fact, it's a sign of a BETTER writer who can make great stuff within existing lore than one who NEEDS to twist stuff just so they can 'make things work'. -

Tell you what, YOU go and do a better job than they are doing, and THEN you can kvetch and whine with some foundation.
Until then?
"WAAAAAH, OUUUUWAAAAH! AAAHAHAHAHA! CRY SOME MOAR!"

This idea is as dead as the City Vault. The Devs said as much on a Ustream (don't know which one, so don't ask) and said that AE is there should you wish to do Archenemy stuff. That's the official stance.
I'm happy with that, frankly. If any char is going to have an archenemy, I want to be damn sure I have control over how the writing goes, not the Computer 'Hurr-de-durr'ing it up. -
As excuses go, I think "Moving the servers. Yes, the physical ones" is a pretty good excuse
Then again, I have Gears 3 and Space Marine to keep me busy, along with nutty housemates. So, I'm sure I'll live -
Quote:You. Yes, you, the Cthuloid one. You're both humiliating yourselves. None of this is making you look any more intelligent, it's only making you look whiny and pretentious.
Taser, I admire your guts for calling out Venture when so many other people seem to be afraid too for some reason, but going "LET'S SEE YOU DO BETTER" is in no way a rational response to the original argument. Now you're just attacking him to try and make him look bad, not trying to refute his original points.
Venture, you're just as bad because you fell for it. Did you honestly think Taser was going to end up liking your arc? No. He's just trying to knock you down a few pegs. Yet for some reason you played right into his hand and now you're in the middle of a shouting match that's going nowhere. As they say elsewhere: "Don't feed the trolls", and you seem incapable of following that rule.
God, you're all like a bunch of 12 year olds who think they're smart because they can quote things and write walls of text! Get down off your high horses, and grow the hell up. Nobody likes your holier than thou attitude.
That goes for you too Eva. And Sam on bad days. Golden Girl...uh...you have a completely different problem.
Stop reading my mind. It's creepy.

Wow, ouch...
Glad I have Gears 3 and Space Marine to keep my attention -
Quote:Forum Gods, I curse you! It's like you have a Jekyll and Hyde operating the price sheets. On one hand you have a guy going "I'll give people about 40-60 items for $5.00! I'm valuing individual costume pieces around 8 to 15 cents each!" and then another guy goes "AHAHAHAHA $1.00 PER PIECE, YEAAAAHHHH!" And then he drinks blood out of a skull and rides off on a motorcycle made of baby seals.
Why do I not have enough space in my signature to quote this disturbing yet awesome image?! -
Union has a pretty even split. Or at least all the channels I know have an even-ish split.

I like new sounds. I do NOT like new but unnecessary sounds. I mean, what the hell was the design brief and reasoning on this thing?
And Brawl. The new brawl is terribad. It's lame, cartoony and lacks ANY sense of weight. -
-
That's pretty damn sweet.
And, hey, that PROVES that games aren't bad for you -
Quote:Foolish mortal!Sam... are there shades of your opinion? It seems your "needle" for that goes from 0 to "abomination" a bit quicker than I would expect.
Seriously though, I am not a big fan of the floaty-contact-thingies either... but what annoys me most is the unintuitive color scheme.
There is only;
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGEEE!!!

Quote:So, obviously all those new players that joined up within the past seven years were so badly deprived by not having-Now where did the floating coin touch you?
Seriously, we're now complaining about a feature that telling new players "Hey Story Arc RIGHT HERE" as bad thing? You realize this is staple kind of thing of MMOs, something that people expect and would be criticized if it was absent when this game goes F2P.
No, wait, what?
They have a contacts bar. They have help channels and wikis and the like. They can ASK.
Or, heaven forbid, the 'Tutorial' could teach them about contacts?
Owait, newshiny is more important than teaching people stuff, sorry...
CoH=!Other MMOs. Why is that such a bad thing? -
Quote:Et, voila. C'est la vie, I rest my case.I would like to chip in here (as a completely new player who's never experienced this "old" tutorial)
I found the freedom tutorial overly rushed with no real sense of "teaching" you anything except how to move and (quite shamelessly) how to buy things from the store. I work out most from similarities with other MMO's (ie, hotkey bar placement, how to set up skills to be triggered, tab targeting, etc). I am now 26 and I think I have missed a hell of a lot of these training missions (The developers should consider making them mandatory if you have no other character below above x level). Almost everything I know about the game so far has been taught to me either from friends or from the wiki/forums, including a VERY CRUCIAL game feature of combining inspirations(because you never know when you'll need to do that to get an arise).
I only found out about task forces through a friend, about the sewer trial by an accidental misclick and I still don't have the faintest idea about certain (pretty important to some) aspects of the game such as PvP, badge accolades, what the fire alarm in x area thing means, or what a "bank raid" is.
All in all, the current system is very ineffective, in my view (ie, that of a totally new VIP player)
New tutorial = damn failure. -
Utterly.
The one flaw the Devs seem to have managed to snatch from the jaws of victory again and again is this stubborn insistence that "Oh, we liked it...surely you like it too, right? Right?!"
It's still not gone away, sadly.
(Either that or the Suits in charge are just bloody minded vermin who- yeah, I'll stop before I start. This time...) -
Quote:Well, that's made as clear as mud.The same way villains take out the Mediport system when reclaiming Fort Darwin.
They blew up the hospital. I don't believe it's mentioned in the tutorial, but it is mentioned in one of the Atlas Park early arcs.
And that's not even right, then. Because you have to beat up the Shivans and RoidRage Shivan and THEN you get Teleported to the 'Safe Zone'.
So...really, it has no links to the hospital at all! They just say 'These things are blocking teleporters! Be good little shucks and clear them out!'
Plotonium Rays...
