No really. I find it funny. You came to a game based on playing comic book superheroes and then say it's lame.

Yup, I know that's what gets me to play games. I look at it, think the subject matter is lame and then totally want to pay a monthly fee to play it! \o/

Don't let the way CoH is now fool you. It was created to be a superhero MMO. It even said as much on the website untill less than two years ago when it changed it to "Be a hero!"

This doesn't mean you can't mix a few things, but the really funny part of it all...anime style doesn't stop anything from being superheroes. It's a style of art work. Warren Ellis can pull off manga style artwork and still do a superhero story. It's about the look more than anything.

And that image of Bass_Awkwards character...it is AWESOME! But the poster had a point in that it looks more WoW and less superhero comic.
No, I call ANYONE but me dictating how my characters HAVE to look to 'fit in' in a Superhero game to be LAME on a scale of unscalability.

So, because one of my characters doesn't wear their pants on the outside they are, somehow, NOT a super hero? They have super powers? Check. They save lives and such, generic heroing stuff? Check.
    Do they wear spandex? Uhm...

"No? Oh, sorry, you're not a Super Hero."

    BULL **** ALERT!!

I like Heroes. I like Villains. I like being able to choose how the smegging hell *I* want them to look, without any smeg-headed stupid enforcement on what is and is not a 'Superhero' or villain.
WoW didn't invent fantasy. Fantasy itself is not exempt from being 'Super Hero'y. Hell, they even did a mini-series of Spawn/Witchblade crossover set in a Fantasy variant world! I guess that doesn't count as comic book enough for you?

I find this whole argument utterly bloody stupid. I, personally, don't tend to make spandex characters, with two exceptions BECAUSE IT WORKED FOR THOSE CHARACTERS. If someone then told me that spandex is the ONLY valid 'Superhero' outfit, I would tell them to get the hell out while I laughed at them. End of.

What we have in Lore for Rularuu.

I swear that it was something to do with Rularuu somehow being trapped within his own mind, something about the fragmented parts of his mind, such as Lanaruu the Mad etc.

I know that sounds like a call for group hugs, but on the contrary, we need to remember that other games will always come along that can do fantasy or anime or furries better, as a main focus. When those games come, many (not all, but many) of City of X's "die hard fans" who aren't comic book fans will pack up their bags and leave, dissatisfied with City of X's lack of big eyes, small mouths, or animal heads. (Regarding faces and bodies, you'll never see anime's characteristic unrealism in a game where the art direction leans toward realistic human features.)

I want an inclusive game universe, not an exclusive one, and there's no better place to have that than a comic book universe. But this thread isn't about those other genres. And comic book universes are about superheroes first and foremost. And I'm sure Paragon Studios knows on which side their bread is buttered. So we need to ask for what we want. Paragon Studios has welcomed our ideas. There are already a ton of great ideas in the past few pages. So for anyone who thinks the superhero theme has been exhausted, you probably haven't read the thread, and you CERTAINLY don't read enough comic books. As a comic book reader, I can ASSURE you, Paragon Studios has not exhausted all the great superhero tropes. Not even close.

So, anyway, how about those Superhero Pack/Zone ideas?
    ^
    This is a good post.

And as for Zones, they need to finish revamping all the old ones first

Very cool looking, but if I didn't know better I'd think this came from WoW or Aion or some other fantasy game, not a superhero game. Everyone is of course free to make their character look like whatever the costume creator allows, but if you want examples of why the game looks/feels less like a classic superhero comic book world, you need look no further than (the countless) toons like the one above.

I don't think the problem is one of costume piece/set selection, or even power set selection (though I think we could have done without guns and maybe even swords), but of players who have no particular love for four-color superheroics. They are anime fans or fantasy fans or just plain fans of immature irony. They have probably logged more hours watching Full Metal Alchemist than reading The Mighty Avengers (if they read comics at all).

I love the classic superhero comics so much that I often tend to model my own toons directly off of recognizable icons. Five out of the six toons listed in my sig are pulled from the comics: NOR-RAD was originally meant to look like Green Lantern, Nikki Stryker looks like Batgirl, Iron Marauder is a straight up Iron Man clone, Lion of Might is a Captain Marvel tribute (minus the lightning blasts), and Darling Nikkee spends most of her time in her Hit Girl outfit. Ice Giant Kurg is pretty much yanked from Thor, which is basically D&D dressed up like superheroes, but I don't play him much and I feel weird when I do.

Honestly I don't think that adding more spandex-y costume options would help Paragon City feel more like a classic four-color superhero comic book world. For that you'd have to almost exclusively recruit a very particular gaming demographic (the staunch superhero nerd, like me). But then you'd probably have 60% fewer players to team up with.
So, of course, you are totally against Thor, Hercules, Loki, any character in Super Hero comics who is clearly too 'Fantasy'-ish for your liking?

Oh, and Steven Strange, he's far too magicy, can't have magic in comics, thats a fantasy schtick...

Yes, you already mentioned Thor. Thor is a Norse God. The Norse, in case you were ignorant somehow, tend to revolve less around super powers and more on swords, axes and generally being walking bad@ss. Like...hmn...fantasy flavoured!

So, really, all of your post boils down to 100% opinion. Which, while fine, doesn't give you any damn right to poo-poo what other people do or do not like in game.

Personally? I find spandexy super heroes for the most part incredibly ******* LAME.
Superman? Put your damn pants on the INSIDE and...yeah, I'm sorry, I just can't stand the big blue boy scout.
Pre-changes, Captain America tended to look like a bit of an idiot, too. Now that he's got a few revamps he looks a bit less stupid. That and, well, I like his character a lot more.

You probably don't agree with me. That's fine; all the above is my opinion.
But I'm also not trying to foist my opinion on others and act like it's 'right'. The more the better, so why NOT add more options for EVERYONE?

I just finished part 4 of the SSA, and the above gets as many freaking /Signs as I can put down.

The very real possibility of the minions of Rularuu and the Rulu-Shin throwing down the eye-balled Gauntlet are getting even an un-subbed player like me quite excited again.

Some people say "yeah, I knew that". Other people complain that one of the singular plot points of the first Harry Potter book has been spoiled for them. The people that already knew say "don't bother coming here to discuss books if we're not allowed to tell you about them."

Even the person who originally spoke takes this view, saying that because the book has been out for so long, nobody should care about having something explained before they've read it.

Allowing people the choice to avoid the topic would be the polite thing to do, by explaining that they were going to talk about the plot of the book.

By forcing the knowledge on other people, they are being inconsiderate and rude.

Shadow's getting his wise on. Good analogy is good.

And, yes, the SS was 'created' by the Midnighters, in as much as it was where they trapped Rularuu.

  9. To be fair, part of the reason it's not run all that often might also have something to do with pretty much EVERYTHING in the Trial conning purple to you, no matter your settings, and nearly all being Boss level or higher.

Leastways, that was the way it was when I ran it with a group. We got to the bottom of the pit and then just ran out of time, due to the tons of Mini-Krakens and respawning things.

Uh...hardly. The Match is one of the single most ugly, old models still in use, whereas Maelstroms are an entirely new model which aren't just a rectangle with bad textures.

And this is also incredibly stupid. I mean, way to go STILL locking costume parts behind Incarnate content, and THEN making them a grind? Again?

It's still not enticing me. iTrials are still anathema to me, so tough luck.

Not a brag, just sayin', if it's crashin' it's your setup somewhere. The Updater, and Co*, work flawlessly, every time, on my machine:

E6750 Core 2 Duo, 4G ram, 32 Bit Vista Ultimate, Evga Nvidia 9600GT 512MB PCIx16, onboard Realtek audio, 3 speed on the tree, and an FM radio in it.

    ///bonus for knowin' the reference!
^ Agreed. I've never had an issue with the NC Launcher. In fact, it runs smoother in general than the old CoHLauncher used to.

So...that suggests its your rigs fault, not the launcher. To me at least. *shrug* I instantly set mine to 'close when game is running' mode. Never a problem since day 1, other than the very odd 'CoH has encountered a problem and needs to close', which I got with the old launcher too and likely has nothing to do with CoH and more to do with my net/rig having a hiccup.

Please stop acting like close quarters gunfighting is silly. It's realistic. That doesn't mean we can't have characters with 95% accuracy rates when firing from 80 feet away in our superhero game, but it does mean that we can have people that need to be within 3 yards to be accurate (which in this game means used at all-- like how Executioner's Shot has a shorter range than other shots).
You might want to tell Dual Pistols that. And the Devs. Since they seemed vocally against giving Pistols to Scrappers (as a full power set), and have pretty much said so in every thread to date.

Also 'Realistic'? In this game? Really?

They just can't shove it in one of the existing ATs.

Although, I wouldn't mind seeing them add a Praetorian Epic AT....
The Devs said last stream that a Praet EAT isn't on the cards, due to an EAT needing 'a lot' of lore to go into it. They don't seem to think there's enough going for a Praet one. *shrug*
  18. With both sides no longer exclusive, I honestly think there is little excuse not to be looking at potential new ATs.

Note New ATs, though. Dual Pistols on a Scrapper is still a terribad idea, except as an Epic Pool. Pistols are for *shooting* people with. Yes, they are shorter ranged than other firearms, but they are still RANGED weapons. You do not scrap with them.

My MMs are waiting for that solo Incarnate content to come down the pike, I can tell you. Till then they are running no trials but the occasional BAF.

EDIT: Well ,come to think of it they might do ok on UG. I've seen MMs do well on that one.... that's it though, BAF and UG for my MMs.
It's not that the trials are impossible, per se. Otherwise Alpha wouldn't have the abilities he does.

    They ARE incredibly frustrating, however.

In BAF it's a case of getting picked off by the tower through cover, or my pets hanging around slack-jawed in the open and then getting pinged by the towers themselves. When you're having to grind into cover for Nightstar and Siege, that's a real problem, especially given the general player crush, especially when trying to re-summon.

Lambda is frustrating on multiple accounts. First of all you have the crazy race through the corridors. Since no one ever bothers to kill the mobs down here, my poor pets are left trailing aggro behind me. And when they all die? Next hit tends to be a bye-bye for me, even with defence softcapped and Barrier shielding. Because Praetorians have insane accuracy.
Then it's back outside and, guess what? Marauder bounces everywhere leading to...yup, more aggro of the mobs that pop up. And if I need to re-summon? Oh, you're too far from Marauder! You get shot by artillery! lol!
Yes, being fair the artillery does negligible damage. But it has a horrible habit of knocking me and pets around like bowling pins, meaning re-summoning takes all the longer.

And as for Keyes...well. That was the last trial I ran. True, it was the old variant. But the concept was what hamstrung the fun entirely for me.

So, I can't catch Antimatter with stray AoE, because that would be very bad. What is it Bots/Traps does in spades? Oh, thats right; AoE. Better keep my pets on passive then. Oh, what's this? Pulse that autohits? Oh well, I should be fine, I have bodygu-ohcrap.

And look, we have to kill mobs while praying like Antimatter doesnt show up, to dive into the middle of my AoE field. Can I use bodyguar- no, haha, how silly that would be.

I just gave up after that. I GET that iTrials are meant to be challenging content. I can live with that. But 'Challenging' is not the same as 'Totally hamstrung and made to traipse after all the other ATs who can blast away with impunity and feel like a 3rd string fiddle all the way'. That's called 'Not Fun'.
So, I just gave up on it. C'est la vie.
  20. Tell you what. OP can carp and whine about a bit of grammar. Everyone else can get on playing with new shinies.
  21. I still want a DP/SR character. Or an Energy/Invul ranged character. Heck, Fire Blast/Fire Armour?

I really find the lack of those options to be a real pain at times.

And, please, lets not insult anyone's intelligence by knee-jerk screaming 'tank-mage'. EATs already have Ranged/Armour powers, and are not tank mages. The Devs do know how to balance stuff in this game.

I wasn't asking for an 'I win' button, just not to get every single good point I had totally annihilated by the Trial designs. It was just too much of a chore for not enough fun, and that turned me off trying with my other 50s.
Not to mention I couldn't be bothered to go through all of them up the ITree for all the parts I'd need.
