Fair enough. However, there is a major, major difference between creating your own distinct character and a 'what if' interaction with a canon NPC while trying to keep as close to that NPCs personality as possible going off official writing ('Riko herself said she'd be making sure that it worked out with the now canon relationship between Posi and Numina) and what was mentioned, namely commandeering an actual canon NPC name and acting how that player thinks that NPC should be, rather than what the Devs write for it.
-
Not bad. What's a 'lower atmosphere' of the body when it's at home, though?
-
Quote:Then you genuinely do not understand the concept of god-modding canon. Not one thing god mode about my concept characters I have seen far more so called original concept characters who border on god mode then my lore based characters based on research of the game and a desire to actually be a part of the game world we love.
Saying "I am the son of Recluse" is god modding canon. That is twisting the game world and lore to suit you.
Saying "I am the Prince of all Demons who empowered the CoT" is god modding canon. That is saying that anything you write for that character should be treated as lore, and thus effects every NPC and PC CoT or CoT related cahracter EVER.
Quote:Really and why would they laugh at a story using all thier own content in an imaginative way? I may be rusty and wasnt there but I seem to recall devs having so much love for us players they even hosted an in game wedding for a pair. Yes I made a character named Bentley Berkeley directly inspired by the npc hostage from two old story arc missions who in game lore has just enough interesting tidbits about him I felt compelled to try and breathe some further life into him. Sorry if that hurts your feelings so much bud.
This has nothing to do with 'hurt feelings' and everything to do with your apparent ignorance of that fact you simply do not mess with canon to the extent you apparently try to.
Bentley is a bit character, sure. He's also a Dev written bit character. In their story, he is MEANT to be a bit character. To continue the theatre analogy, this is like Bentley being a two liner member of the chorus in a major production, who you then suddenly take the role of and start interacting with the main characters with total disregard for the script. Do you simply not get that?
Quote:I have an entire SG devoted to Crey with every character I and anyone else running in it drawn from game lore based on crey, starting with my character count alphonse crey aka the invisble falcon who many wrongly beleive was murdered by crey. Crey ofcourse in our RP view is the most noble and heroic organization on earth and Statesman a tyrant in the making we have long fought to disrupt the rise of.
Like the fact Invisible Falcon has nothing to do with Count Crey, other than 'maybe' falling prey to the Revenant Project?
Or did you think you would 'spice it up' a bit instead, and have your own version be a 'better' canon than what the Devs said?
Quote:A true shame Id be happy to have you come meet any of my characters so you could at least judge them based on personal knowledge but to each thier own. And yes I am Virtue Forever as most of us who RP there are. Not like we all get along, hell I hate them damn WOD vamps beyond all reason. Maybe thats just what I am to you, your WOD vamp. If so again sorry bud but sometimes thats just the way it is.
Twilight, maybe. -
Quote:Arbiter Hawk is in a meeting, but he wanted me to post this:
Hey all, just popping in here to give some clarification on this point:
There are two ways to obtain Maelstrom's Pistols as a costume piece. The recipe has a 4% chance to drop each time you see a pistol get knocked out of Maelstrom's hand in the TPN Campus incarnate trial. This occurs twice per playthrough on a successful trial - once when you defeat him inside the main TPN Campus building, and once when you defeat him outside during stage 4 of the trial. That means there's a 7.84% chance of somebody in the league getting the Maelstrom's Pistol recipe that you are currently seeing in the auction house listing. This recipe is tradeable and can be used by any dual pistols character or thugs mastermind at any level, meaning you can send it to your friend's new level 1 character to make a cool pistol for him to use. Using the recipe allows you to craft either the left pistol or the right pistol.
The other method of obtaining this costume piece is to complete the TPN Campus trial with an Incarnate character who uses either dual pistols or thugs, and then visit Empyrean Michael. You should then find that he will allow you to unlock both pistols on that character for a moderate Empyrean Merit cost. This ensures that all characters who can use dual pistols have a way of eventually unlocking Maelstrom's guns if that's what they want. The main goal with this reward is to give players multiple ways to earn a signature costume piece from an incarnate level villain, while making sense within the story of the trial (each time you beat him, he loses a gun, until he's left with only his fists and feet in the grand finale.) The idea here is that the recipe drop feels like a "bonus" - it allows you to use the pistol on a low level alt, or on a character you haven't done TPN with - but that any Dual Pistols or Thugs character who wants to unlock the piece for having defeated Maelstrom at TPN Campus is also able to do so.
I seemed to miss the part where you guys factored in 'grindy' and 'repetetive'.
Not to mention most people simply ignore Maelstrom until they have to on TPN.
And not to mention the recipe chances is 7% over the entire league?! I....it.....
Honestly, what the hell? Do you guys even consider the people who would like the costume parts and don't run trials these days? Or is this another brilliant 'incentive' idea, where I might as well just start smashing my faceplate into a brick wall and save myself the effort? -
Quote:Except actual actor get picked for roles and have acting talent.Got to agree with Floaty, here.
I read this latest description of "Lore-based RP", and the first thought in my mind was "so, your idea of fun is to take someone else's character and roleplay as that character? Whatever happened to creating your own character and having fun with that, creating your own story, personality, goals, history, adventures and so forth? This isn't roleplaying being described, it's acting, which is a bit like roleplaying. In the same way that having a driving license is like rally driving: kind of similar, but nothing alike."
They don't walk in off the street and declare they are going to play Othelo or Hamlet. The acting company and actual actor would throw them out on their ear, laughing all the way. -
Quote:Aha! AHAH! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-hhoooAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!Oh a personal jab at yours truly? How good of you to show an example of your own shining character traits that far exceed my own RP characters controversial natures.
Which are actually reguarly complimented upon by random folk who actually appreciate the use of game lore.
On topic I am with Sam on this one. OP seems to think over simplified earns instant kudos. I myself really only give props to bios that make heavy use of game lore. veer even a little ofcourse ill send a tell explaining how wrong you are and how you can improve it to fit within the game world. Anyone who pulls the Tidus "Its my story and it will go the way I want it to or Ill end it right now" BS can go play water soccer.
Yes. Yes I just sat and typed out mad laughter. Because that hypocritical statement is deserving of nothing less. Hoo boy... -
Quote:Examples? Most examples of actually god-moding canon tend to rightly get shouted down as the tripe they are...Actually, that story isn't bad (or at least the idea of it).
It's problem is that it seems to expect everyone to follow it.
What's even more funny about this, is people like other stories that mess with canon and tend to be known amongst the forum goers, and does exactly what that poster did, but they're accepting it, and seem to often call for it to be made canon. -
Quote:Except no one chose you. You commandeered a canon NPC, without Dev permission (and they are the only ones in charge of canon) and godmoded it.Since you sound like your trying to understand Ill try to explain one last time as clearly as possible.
LORE BASED RP. You do know who Bentley Berkeley is for example right? No not my character, which he isnt, he is my role, when an actor is chosen to play say new kirk for example, he is no more or less then the other actor to portray the character( for the purpose of the anaology)
This is like turning up to a stage production and pronouncing you will be the lead role, despite not being part of the acting company, a credited actor, or even very good at acting. The company and actual lead actor would sling you into the street.
Quote:Sometimes actors can even have interesting insights into thier roles and use them to expand the character further then even the original writer who created it imagined. That is the only reason I have for my characters.
Quote:The original post isnt about an RP plot played out by a group, its just like many other theories on how or why we could bring back statesman using the new ritual from the holiday event.
Ill try and point to how I am using in game lore and content to create a viable idea that just like now few others suggested, offers a way to bring back marcus cole who not all are happy to see fall, at least not yet nor so quietly.
With the new holiday event we have a ritual and the requirements pretty clearly spelled out. Some suggest why cant this work for all. Some say well statesman is alot more then just some crazy lady and would take bigger magic.
I replace the generic coins with the 2 used for an ancient incarnate that yes I personally have long imagined Ol **** dates back to cimorea, and yes have long imagined as having some connection to the oracle since I chose for him to bea psi/ment blaster.
I honestly believe you would give even a Dalek an inferiority complex with that level of arrogance.
Quote:I listed a number of lore characters, and a few names of characters I play or know played all based on lore involving the very subjects being used in the comic series quite alot. Its not about my ego when I suggest those names but simple logic. Ive seen others suggest roughly the same using more main stream names, but imo **** is a bigger wiz then younglings like numina, he is just alot more humble and out of the spot light.
Do you not comprehend just how much you are godmoding canon? Do you even know what the word means?
Quote:Other things I make reference to are the remains of tielekuu, seen in the cim section of the club, I make use of vlamaz because its a simple fact demons deal in the stuff of life that is magical, who else makes more sense to know before mention of the ritual that states own final breath might be handy?
Its not hard to imagine that an immortals blood, and last breath would likely carry some bigger boosts to a ritual then a typical person. Could you imagine a blood mage having a stock pile of Highlanders blood? People go on about how much they wanted a selfless and heroic sacrifice for statesman, why not a really old human who makes states seem young, who knew the last incarnate, maybe even was given a prophecy back then about states and his hour of need. Why not kill off a background character from lore who was always left in the dust anyways like Berkeley and let marcus cole have a chance at a final normal lifetime without power and responsability but who could still act as a NPC in some minor way, perhaps the new city rep in RP? so he wouldnt over shadow our own characters, but niether be removed so casually as to have no few players feeling like the face of thier game just got hit with acid then beat with an ugly stick.
again lore based RP isnt even about just RP its about being an immerssive part of the game even solo, even ona non rp pug, your trying to add an extra layer of depth for those around you.
...what? Lore Based RP is still *RP*! And this isn't adding depth, this is badly written fan-fiction, at the best. -
Quote:You mean you getting rightfully torn apart for god-moding game canon itself?Very nice discussion so far, I even was inspired to start a thread telling my own Lore inspired RP ideas around it on a seperate thread that has been lets say interesting and leave it at that.
Yeah, lets leave it at that.
Quote:Pretty much I can understand that those who are pro statesman whom I do hope understand are likely a real minority and its the overwhelming bitterness that jack and this his virtual avatar have left in so many mouths that I feel prompted the less then truly iconic death some felt he deserved.
I despite being happy statesman is gone offered up in my thread a valid improved version of the new ritual that I felt could bring back marcus, I felt bringing him back as a mortal man to live out a final mortal life would be a honorble enough retirment of the character and leave him no longer a overwhelming force who many felt kept thier best efforts at characters in an eternal shadow.
Quote:Pretty sad by the way that with all the talk of in game lore heroes with longevity one of the oldest in lore and the basis for my beloved blaster, none other then Bentley Berkeley, specifically noted to be an immortal whose secret is sought after by nemesis, who has been an active enemy of Requiem, a founder of the Midnighters, an accomplished wielder of the arcane, and at least active since the early 1900s with some suggestions he could be much older and has been actively fighting the Cult of the Dark who most I know feel refers to Rularuu and the whole ending existance by devouring the entire dimension thing.
Which is why once again I feel rather happy myself about my choice to make lore based characters as the content made by the devs once again feels almost custom tailored to some of my favorite characters and I myself have no trouble using abit of imagination here and there to spicen it up further.
Or have I just been very successfully trolled? I would almost rather it were the latter.
Fecking hell, I am NEVER going on Virtue, if that's where you spend your days... -
Eh, problem is, I find the limited room a problem.
Not because of horribly long rambly life stories. I much prefer to keep it short and sweet, as people have already mentioned.
However, that still doesn't cover other things that are important, in my case for example, in RP. Extra details that might not be obvious; pose, any odd scents, any weird sensations, magical auras. That kind of thing. There's usually not room to fit in both a *Decent* potted version (I like writing, and I like it to be of a good quality when it's my own stuff) AND extra stuff that might need mentioning so people have a quick reference card.
Ultimately, though, I'd just be happy if they went back and fixed the smeg-damned bugs with the text box itself. That thing has been wearing its pants on its head since the AE came out, and never got fixed... -
Quote:Oh, this is going to be fun. For starters, no, I'm a Union RPer, but not a 'rep' (guessing you mean representative). I will say that the quality of RP on Union is what I would consider quite high for the most part, and I'm also not afraid to wager most of them would share my sentiments on this.Hm I could be mistaken but dont you rep Union RP? Just to keep in line with my typical arrogence that is like a SYFY movie actor trying to talk trash to some classic great like Basil Rathbone. Yeah I went there.
I do love it when the ignorant try to decry my character as a godmod. Let me count how they are not.
Quote:T'Keron Valmaz is yes the Lord Of Demons, frankly put when after 3 months in year one of seeing tons of really poorly concieved non canon related demons, devils, fallen angels, and half breeds running around I was like know what I am going to make a proper Demon character to RP just to try and spread some Lore.
Quote:I did some research, naturally it always circled back to the CoT and Infernal. I came to see the very concept of T'Keron Valmaz as exactly the kind of concept so many where trying....and utterly failing at, creating let alone RPing.
He was the most powerful of his kind,
Next bit almost felt ok, until-
Quote:-now suddenly shackled with aspects of humanity, morality for example, emotions like guilt and doubt suddenly plagued a mind so ancient and complex it would be a truly worthy challenge to try and RP. I ended up drawing mainly upon inspiration from the Xanth saga by piers anthony and the Demon Xanth. A being who simply put saw our world as a speck of sand in the bigger picture, but wasnt so disconnected as to not recognize the impact Powers from even a single dimension could have.
It takes little logic to assume it would of been Valmaz who made the first pacts with Orenbega to arm them with power ancient enough to match Tielekku the God.
You clearly have no idea how massive and stupid a god mode of canon that is.
Quote:I actually see as in IRL view point valmaz and not tielekku as the first and most important hero in COX lore.
Quote:Had he not stood on our behalf game over right there, tielekku enslaves humanity, nothing left but a world of her zealots.
Quote:So I try to give such a figure life, to use it to educate my fellow players on the actual game world they are playing in rather then using some generic Im a evil monster cus Im a demon tripe. In my book a demon of the caste of Valmaz is the icon of the moustache twirling to cool to have to kill villain with a secret heart of gold Benevloent dictator type.
Quote:And really considering what you can guess of my RL personality isnt that the absolutely perfect kind of character for me to RP? I mean come on would you want anyone but an egotistical in game lore junkie to try and play such a character?
Quote:Someone would have eventually used that name if I hadnt and could of easily been one of those Emo drama queens rather then a guy who just likes to sit at the D talking about moments in game lore history as if they where moments that actually meant something to me.
Quote:Really though just know if you truly love the game like me then I am not really any different from you no matter how you want to try and seperate yourself.
Quote:Side note: WoWtard more or less means someone whose first MMO is a wow type, or worse wow itself, and that you put more energy into the numbers aspect of building a character then the story concept. Pretty much as long as you always put the concept first, no matter your reason your not a WoWtard.
But it is spreading and rampantly. I meet more and more on virtue, on sarlona in DDO, pretty much every last haven for mmoRPGers is slowly being enroached on by people finally leaving WoW or AoC or very likely soon a mass exodus from ToR once they cap each class once and relize that is the exact depth of the content. Like any natural creature in existance, slowly we lose the enviroment originally made for our kind to those who would steralize it in a realm of perfect min max meta gamed optimal play/build/team composition.
I am a Sith Lord so please keep feeding me all those yummy negative emotions.
Quote:Oh and Han didnt shoot first nor 2nd. He was the ONLY shot! Han is also probably the only one bad *** enough to have taken shots at Vader and lived -
((Tried to stick as close to canon as possible with this one, but I felt some of the main characters should get a look in))
Grandville, The WEB
Arbiter Daos was not a man who felt fear. These days he barely registered any emotions at all. They were an inconvenience at best, a weakness at worst.
But even he, a man who had stared down and out-right threatened some of the most horrific and inhuman scum the Rogue Isles had to offer, felt uncomfortable in the room right now.
Webmaster Commander Marien King did not seem to share the feeling, or was too preoccupied to notice the metaphorical chill in the air.
With Statesman gone the Heroes will be in disarray, she commented, tapping an armoured finger on the map that occupied the main table, lacing the H word with predictable venom I can have two strike forces in motion immediately, with three more ready to deploy as soon as they hit Paragon. We can crush those fools before they even know what hit them!
You will do no such thing, Commander.
Kings gaze jolted upward, blank helm staring at the back of the figure by the window. The Lord of Many Arms was stood by the red tinted plexiglass, hands folded behind his back and spider-arms twitching faintly.
There is nothing more to discuss here, he added without looking round. There was something in the tone, something even Daos had not heard before. Something that made the venerable Chief Arbiter take a slight step back.
With all due respect, Sir, this is the perfect opportunity! King snapped, straightening up. We will not have another chance like this.
When Lord Recluse did not reply she sighed sharply, turning to Daos.
I will begin mobilisation at once, the fliers will be airborne in-
The move was sudden, swift and violent. Recluse spun, spider arms lashing out with their bladed ends gleaming. With a sound like tearing paper half the table was shorn off, before being thrown forcibly at King. Only a lifetime of training and enhanced reactions stopped the Commander from being smashed squarely into the wall; as it was, the force of the glancing blow hurled her across the room, landing in a heap by the door.
If you DARE to countermand my orders I will gut you myself, you miserable little whelp! Recluse roared, eyes blazing like an inferno. Even the air itself felt static and heavy with menace. There will be no action at this time, he hissed, lowering his voice and fixing both King and Daos with a seething glare. Obey, or die. Get out.
Without another word he spun back to the window, resting both clenched fists on the sill. Behind him he heard the quick, subtle footsteps as Daos swiftly left, followed by the sound of Commander King pulling herself upright and ducking hastily out the door.
Silence fell, and remained so for many minutes after. It was finally broken by a ragged sigh.
Gods damn you, Marcus, Recluse growled under his breath. Who gave you permission to up and die ? -
Going over the OP...
Uh, yeah. Sorry, this looks like it's been blown way out of all reasonable proportion, compared to what is actually stated in the dialogue. -
Everyone seems to be handily forgetting the parts where;
1) Marcus doesn't want to give up.
2) He does NOT get a lot of choice. You know, that powerful, Incarnate killing Ritual that Wade spent all this time setting up, one that was designed specifically to kill an Incarnate exactly like him?
3) Not everyone has the power to bring someone straight back from the dead. And if people are saying their characters can? Well...I'd say canon disagrees, but I would need to get some reasonable citation.
I really think this has gotten a little past honest story discussion, myself. -
Quote:^ ThisNote that Statesman's death is a part of *fiction* and determined by a *fictional* universe's owner, who has made it VERY clear what is meant and intended. Someone IRL who's just shot on the street or whatnot would likely have a passer-by (someone not aware of a DNR, etc.) try to save/revive them, or at least call an ambulance.
... you *do* realize Statesman is a fictional character, right? Just checking. -
Quote:What, apart from the Menders rather tight grip on time travel via Ouroboros? The 'do as we say to keep the timestream going the way it should be' schtick? My problem is that the permanency of Statesman's death doesn't make any sense.
Ms. Liberty already knows about and has access to Ouroboros. It wouldn't take her but 5 minutes to pop back in time and warn her Grandpa about his ensuing demise. She used it before to try and intercept a group of villains attacking her mother who were also using the time-traversing power of Ouroboros. Regardless of what Statesman felt at the moment he "surrendered", what he felt in an earlier time would have adversely affected his perception in the present. The presence of Ouroboros breaks the justification for his permanent death with ease.
Yeah, I don't see that happening, otherwise EVERYONE would go back and undo every death, ever. And Time would probably implode. Which would suck. -
Except the two characters couldn't be more polar opposites.
Marcus Cole is an ex-soldier turned Hero, who for years and years has been THE unofficial mascot of America and US based Heroing, along with a pretty prominent world Hero figure. He's the parallel to Recluse himself, he's a paragon and a true blue believer in the good in people and 'Truth, Freedom and Justice'.
Wolverine is-
"You're chatting too much, bub. Time to pipe down." *SHNKT*
Yeah. Logan is about as far from that as you can get. States is a believer in doing things the right way. Wolverine goes on claw-abouts (word coined by Deadpool). He doesn't do reasoning, niceness or very much of the whole 'friend' thing. He just cuts stuff up.
Logan seems to have a lot of emotional baggage. Which he deals with by clawing people. And being borderline headcase most of the time.
And he's never been a figurehead. Marcus has. For years and years and years he's been 'doing the right thing'.
And now we're here. The new Incarnates. The next generation of Heroes, with power enough to fight the Coming Storm. Ultimately, we don't need him...and he knows that. He even says it. We step up to the plate, and he can finally do something a bit less self-less and rest.
*shrug* I mean, sure, something maybe a bit more 'epic last stand' would have been good. I liked K's suggestion back up thread, it read really well and had an A grade Epic stamp.
But I'm also not too 'meh' about it. Hell, I doubt I'd be able to have coped in his place. Iunno. -
I.....seriously. What.
Does it really, REALLY matter who shot first in a tiny section of a completely fictional story that's however many years old?
Yes, I love the original trilogy. It's probably a big part of why I love sci fi as much as I do. But....this boggles even MY cerebral circuits here. I can get really intense about the smallest of things (anyone listening to Union RP channel when we discuss game stuff should know that...)
So.....yeah....we know this is Lucas. What else is new?
Edit: Just watched the link. And yeah, he shot first. Even if Lucas changes it, so what? Han's still a badass. -
Ok, long list;
-Vanguard Back Details
-The PROPER PPD gloves, not the fake, 'never used by ANY NPC of that faction, ever' things we have now;
- Legacy Chain parts
-The CoT heavier gauntlets
-Two tone variant of the IDF gloves that only has the glove colour and the glow colour i.e. So I can have Metal gloves with a red glow;
-Victoria Arm blades
That's all I got for now. Still image hunting. -
Many of us are not 'WoWtards' as you put it.
Many of us LIKE RP.
Many of us are also better writers that don't try and godmode canon itself with 'Im so speshul' syndrome. Hate to break it to ya. -
It can be a fine line. There's a difference between playing a total jerkwad that no one wants to be near and, say, an actual villain. One who might be amoral and in-human but respects places like Pocket D, understands the rules, and goes along to watch.
Even if it is for nefarious reasons like sizing up prey, listening in on gossip, or tying peoples shoelaces together
Villains can be interesting characters too. Same for vigilantes, rogues, prejudiced people, people who genuinely believe in greater goods...the whole gamut. All it requires is a good RPer playing the character. -
As someone who was entirely sick of the sucking void of silence that used to exist, I'm very much glad they DO do these talk sessions.
Not least because, actually, you can pick up hints here and there where the Evil Black Pebble (yup, you're a full AV now, well done) may have stopped them saying anything concrete but...Come on 'Hmn, that's interesting' to an idea smacks of 'soon™' to me.
And nice to see a request and acknowledgement of lessening of normal maps on faces. High res yes, normal map no. -
What is this I don't even @ Star Wars 'fans' (read fanatics)
