Basically, whatever you can try and come up with here?
Okami will always be better.
Oh, and still /unsigned -
Quote:Disa- What? No, seriously, What?! MMs are, as far as I know, NOT balanced around an 'annoyance'. Balancing by annoyance is the most cheap and un-fun shortcut that is available. The strength of pet-centric ATs (i.e Masterminds) is that they have many pets to use for attack and defense. This gives them advantages that non-pet ATs don't have. To balance that strength Masterminds have to endure the difficulties of maneuvering their pets and adapting to situations that are not pet-friendly.
Basically your pet powerpool idea removes some of the built-in disadvantages that exist in the game mechanics to balance ATs like Masterminds. While your idea is not strictly a bad one I see little hope that the Devs would ever allow such a powerpool to exist without new pet disadvantages in place to counter-balance it.
MMs are NOT ultimate, unstoppable killing machines like people keep harping on and on and ON about. MMs are balanced around a number of factors;
1) They need pets up and running to have meat/metal-shields for their otherwise pitiful HP
2) They need pets up to do any meaningful damage, due to poor personal attacks
3) They have lower buff/debuff numbers than things like Defenders or Corruptors (unsure about Controllers)
4) They usually have a higher focus on DoT, rather than the raw and usuaully higher burst damage of such ATs as Brutes, Scrappers and Stalkers
5) They suffer far more from AoEs than other ATs, due to the relatively low health of pets, shields and buffs not withstanding.
So, frankly, pets should be able to ALWAYS keep up with their summoner, because, frankly, they are the entire point of the AT and the only way it really survives.
It'd be like telling a Tank "Oh, you're going to be really good at withstanding damage, but everytime you move your defense powers will drop as mini-pets and have to catch up to you before you can use them." It's that patently stupid. -
You say that like nearly every forum poster wouldn't already happily lay aside all differences for the duration of the Destruction of the Golden Monster TF/SF...

Quote:^ ThisVenture raises a good point. When game storytelling makes you ask for a third option or a way out, there's something wrong with the storytelling at its core. Putting players in a situation where it feels they should have a choice and where they really want to have a choice but the game doesn't give one is rarely a good situation, and even more rarely something you want to write intentionally without VERY good reason.
Why can my Robotics MM simply not make new robots that happen to look like the Lore pets, and have similar levels of power, all without an undying connection to the Puddle of Annoyance?
'Because the Devs say so!' I hear some scream.
Would they be saying that if the Devs made it public order for all Heroes to HAVE to wear red and white only, and all villains HAD to wear black and greys? And Brutes HAD to wear traffic cones on their heads because they said so, so it must be right!!
Being told 'The thing you know as the 'Well of Furies' is your Earths manifestation of the source of all power' I can deal with. Lots of comic book worlds have that, no big deal. It's just a catchall term for 'This Universe has superpowers'.
Being told 'You cannot do x, y or z without effectively selling your soul to something that is certifiablly batpoop insane and empowering some guy who, hey, WANTS TO CONQUER YOUR WORLD LOLS!' is something that makes me simply ignore such terribad writing and do things my own way. -

Quote:That wouldn't explain Shock Treatment stun-crashing when I fought her, on a character with no stuns, though.Mistaken impression Techbot. What you're running into is Invul NPCs who have the old version of Unstoppable.
AkuTenshii- I've fought Shock Treatment recently and the godmode didn't last that long at all. Additionally there were some cases where NPC godmodes were putting them over the Resistance cap, and a lot of those were fixed. When I fought her last, I would have been able to hurt her but it wasn't worth the Endurance since I was myself an Electric Melee.
This may need more examining, I'd need game access for that however, heh. -
Oh yeah...whoops!
Whoever did that obviously isn't very good with photoshop, heh. -
Hmn, that doesn't sound like it's WAI. The vast majority, if not all, of the Rogues Gallery, at least in my experience, now have crashing and stun-crashing godmodes. Least ways the ones I've run into have.
-
Was this recently? Because more and more recently I've had Gallery NPCs, like Miss Thystle, run out of things like Unstoppable and suddenly lose HP, End and stagger around stunned. I'm fairly sure Shocky was another who fitted into that group.

Think you mean Judgement not Destiny, Sam

"Scotland is not a real country! You are an Englishman in a dress!" - The Soldier

Alpha was particularly easy.
SCIENCE! meant that he ended up absorbing and fusing with the Lunar Orbital Railcannon platform he had made, effectively boosting him and his bots (Level Shifts).
Ion Judgment is merely a massive energy blast from his now supercharged core. Barrier destiny is an overclocked shield from the FF-Gen and Protector bots. Reactive is simply high powered plasma and lasers eating through armour and leaving burns. And Lore (ignoring the silly aura) is two stolen/customised/self-built robots patterned after the Praetorians very nice robots. -
Quote:There's frankly no need.Part of me wants to say that the Incarnate path is simply not one those characters should go down. At all. Due mainly to the fact that once you begin to acquire progress in the Incarnate path, you cease to be a "Natural" character at all.
But, there is also the idea that those characters should be able to compete (for lack of a better word) with other characters for whom Incarnat-ing does make sense conceptually.
So, I am unsure if I support this idea or not. :~/
My Crab Spider, for one, is not an 'Incarnate'. Alpha slot? Better armour plating and cybernetic add-on's for her armour-interface. Lore? Arachnos minions (ignoring the stupid aura effect). Judgement? Not picked one yet, but likely Void, which will count as an over-charged, short ranged blast from the armour's generator. Interface? Arachnos toxins added to the longfang cannons to make sure all shots and cuts are tough enough to chew through armour and cause more damage (Reactive)
See? All in line with a character who is little more than a peak human, some cybernetic add ons and a big suit of badass armour. -
Quote:Yes I think you are missing the point of the whole "Lore" thing with the Well.
I can kind of sort of deal with the 'Source of all Powers in the City Of Universe' part of the Well/Furies/W/e you call it. But telling me the powers of my robotics and technology based MM HAVE to come from there? I'm sorry, take a hike.
Alpha builds things. He does not 'summon essences' or 'call on the Well' or any of that. As I said, he would either steal the robots and improve them, or simply build them himself. Telling me 'Your character cannot do that, and has to break character to access these powers' is railroading and going too far, and thus I refuse to accept that. -
Quote:It's nothing of the sort, actually. Some of us are still rather miffed about having the Well retroactively shafted onto EVERYTHING in the City Of lore. So I think it's understandable and perfectly reasonable, actually, to have alternate options for things like the lore pets. But the Incarnate content is part of the setting and story. I also get that there are role players who hate it, but honestly I don't really empathize. City is a living breathing world of its own, that you are playing in. Asking them to change the Lore pets so you can pretend they aren't what they are is like asking them to remove specific mention of city names in NPC text so you can pretend you're running around Metropolis, because you don't like the setting the game provides so want to RP something different.
I mean, I'm not asking for the Warworks to actually look like unique cyber-megadeath robots that don't exist anywhere else in game. I'm only asking that the silly wispy aura be removed from them, so that they look solid. My Robotics Mastermind doesn't mess around with mystical BS stuff; he'd either steal a pair of Praetorian robots and upgrade them, or build his own. Telling him 'he can't do that because the Well says so' is so much rail-roading guff as to be unstomachable, frankly.
Quote:When you're getting a Lore pet, what you're getting is the in-game ability to do X, within the specific setting and theme elements of the Incarnate story being told by the writers and developers. You're not calling in reinforcements, you're not calling in favors. If you want to ignore the actual story being told which those powers are a part of, go you, but asking the developers to strip the specific rewards of that story of the thematic elements of that story to facilitate your RP is just... bleh. I don't get that mindset.
Quote:It'd be like asking for the ability to rename temp powers because you want the benefits of the Wedding Band, but your character has a major phobia about rings. At some point your role play has to actually connect with and allow for the specific elements of the setting you're playing in, and if you can't do that, I don't really see why the developers should cater to you. -
Slightly off-topic on the Supes vs Batman point. The only example I can think of is the fight in The Dark Knight Returns.
Bats nearly wins because of;
1) Hitting Supes with three ground to air missiles
2) Hitting him with high power sonics
3) Effectively plugging him into the City Powergrind to zap him, which goes on to power-
4) A massive suit of power armour to up his strength and give him at least some protection against Supes uberstrength
5) Having Green Arrow hit him with a synthesised Kryptonite arrow, thus bringing all his advantages crashing down.
So. All of those things are rather out of the ordinary for the 'Sprays that fix everything' gadgets Bats usually uses. Which makes me to think; maybe those are 'natural' examples of Incarnate abilities?
Character suddenly doing more damage (Musculature) or having more energy (Cardiac)? Special munitions for AR/DP users, powered gauntlets for MA users, Vanguard style energy swords for blade wielders, etc. And Power-suits, super serums, etc etc.
So, yeah. Anything can go. I tend to ignore the Puddle of Annoyance when it gets too silly anyway. -
Also, y'should come to Union Sam
Where I can drag you onto 'Kill EVERYTHING nice and steady!' TF runs and the like. I also hate skipping missions. That leads to a LOT of dead Rikti in the LGTF
Fun times
On the off-topic of animations, however, I really wish they'd make an alternate Total Focus animation. The 'big floaty fist flap' thing looks so un-inspiring. It's too slow, lacks weight and looks silly when used with hover. -
Quote:Just like Red side is dead, and no one rolls villains any-Galaxy City is a dead zone, it's about time they do something with it.
Oh, wait.
I know plenty of people who still use GC. It's one of the main RP hubs on Union. So, subjective and unfactual opinion is just that. -
Meh, a 'Brute of a man' can be a Hero or Villain. In the same way that the giant in black and red can actually be Captain Stalwart the Hero, while the cute little girl in the frilly pink dress is actually Evil Emily the dangerous demon summoner.
A 'corrupted' thing is not necessarily evil, either. If a metal is 'corrupted' it simply means that it's not 100% pure anymore. So, a Corr can 'corrupt' an enemies defenses, resistance or buffs and make them not as 'pure' as they were.
Works fine for me, so /unsigned -
Galaxy Girl RP. Statue RP on Union has always been very marmite (love it or hate it), but I started out a few fave characters there, including my Peacebringer Luminescent Spark. Inspector Jen Kerringer and my other PPD Detective also had Galaxy on their regular beat lists.
Honestly, for everyone saying Galaxy was 'empty of content', the exact same was and is still true of Atlas, at least until the revamp. It's just more people went to Atlas. And, while some people like that, bear in mind that, hey, not EVERYONE likes the same things.
I honestly hope that, outside the tutorial, Ruined Galaxy is still a complete zone. That way it really is win/win. But just removing it wholesale? Meh to that, I say. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure it was, actually. Something along the lines of 'everyone having a Mediporter would completely overload and blow the system'. That and, when it comes to the likes of the Praetorian War, getting meta-class fighters up and back into the fight ASAP to make sure tomorrow even happens is kind of a top priority.4. The big mysterious reason why mediports cannot be issued out is never revealed.
I liked the Cooling arc. The mission with the three SWAT sergeants attached to you, I became incredibly protective of them. The first time me and a friend ran it, we slowly but surely lost all of them. What surprised us both was how we actually went 'NO!' over chat when they got ganked.
Second time I ran it I was very careful, letting them rest up between mobs. That, to me, is a sign of good writing; when even standard NPCs become important to me. -
I find this problem a lot in FPS games and the like where level and such actually has an effect on what kit you get.
A certain game based around the story of aliens, super soldiers and long forgotten ring-shaped worlds does this just right; level means nothing.
Well, ok, not true. 1) You unlock more vanity-only armour pieces and, 2) Higher levels tend to be more experienced. The guys/gals in the uber-high level range you know are going to do their considerable best to hand you your backside on a plate.
Others do it 'wrong'. A certain series of games based on war and military Duty started of great, with the weapons being mostly balanced throughout the levels (bar the nade-launcher....damn cheap thing...) It's successors fared far worse. Higher levels DO have an advantage. It doesn't help those games tend to be rife with glitchable spots on maps, leading to immense frustration if things go bad.
And then there is a certain chainsaw-gun based 3PS. The second game was a case of 'Hosts team wins', end of. Fortunately the third games dedicated servers should fix that a little. And it's vs NPCs wave mode is fan-flipping-tastic...
/rant
Also, Sam; you should start doing your own recorded blogs or somethingwould make good reading/listening

I'd personally rather have a segment of GC for the tutorial. And the entire ruined zone right where it is now. So, y'know, best of both worlds?
Given how little solid details we have atm ("The zone change is permanent" doesn't equate to "We got rid of the whole zone and replaced it with nothing"), I say there's still a possibility. -
One Astral being worth one RM is just...ugh. It's made by the guy who made the Inf-Prestige conversion, I swear.
As for 1 Emp breaking down to 1 Astral? Yeah. Demonspawn love child with satan right there...
