  1. Yeah, so far it handles like a decent feeling Vista install. No real complaints although no advantages except some bug fixes on my current setup.
  2. Even though hubby's system ran smoothly and with nice 50+ FPS on test, his gaming today on live was not so slick. He'd start a FPS slowdown, getting down to about 0.5 FPS and then have to use /unloadgfx in order to correct the behavior. Needs to say he now has it macro'd on the toons he plays regularly. Meh.
  3. You know this is the second time this week that the dual monitor configuration has been raised as an issue. I think Zloth may be looking into adding that info to the coh helper report. Somehow it totally slipped my mind to ask you to make sure your system was set to Single Monitor (Performance Mode) from the Nvidia Control Panel. I hope this works for you!!
  4. Yes, the FPS difference between the 169s and 180s is (sadly) sizeable.

Some things to try, in no particular order. No promises if any of this will work, much less the logic of why it might work.

1)Physically break SLI. Remove card or bridge.
    2)Move up to sp2 beta.
    3)Disable Aero
    4)Try windowed mode.

PS: Be sure you got the October version of the hot fix, not the June one.
  5. Master, your issue is the same as this thread. You do however have a 9xxx card making it more prone to these issues not getting fully resolved. Your first step is working through the guide, completely, and getting back onto the 174 drivers. Going onto newer, beta drivers, wont help your issue. If you have however worked through the guide, your welcome to start another thread (not a reply) with your coh helper and hijack this logs and we can look and see if theres anything else that looks odd. That said, some 9xxx cards we arent getting full fix on, and your crash rate isnt particularly high currently.
  6. Well done! Leaves open ended questions, but thats a good thing for future character development. Very Touching.
  7. Leave them off unless you have an actual stand-alone ageix physx card.
  8. They're already posted with links... think the updated driver list made it to page 2 or three however. I posted drivers for the 9x and the 2x cards.

Those 174.74s are the ones that tech support is rolling 9x cards to, and where I've had the most luck. If that driver doesnt get you stable, I'm going to hazard a guess you have something different either hardware or software going on.

However theres a good chance if you dont have a hardware issue, they will get you stable, because as I've said repeatedly the 9x cards are still requiring a rollback in most cases.
  9. I'm so gonna get in trouble for cross-posting...

    For Vista 32 bit users:
    Windows Vista All (Global) x86 sp2 Fix245313 Vista 6000 2529929 10/22/2008 12:25:04 AM

    For Vista 64 bit users:
    Windows Vista All (Global) x64 sp2 Fix245313 Vista 6000 3177788 10/22/2008 12:26:21 AM

Open the hotfix page with IE. All other browsers are mis-reporting.

Once its open, FIRST click "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages" and THEN click "Show additional information". It takes TWO clicks to fully expand this menu to see all the details. (If you dont see it expanding you may have a slider bar as well.)

    Screenshot

The 245313's are the October (v2) copy of the hotfix, those are the ones you want, but you have to be very careful to get the correct one for your OS. If you get the incorrect one, when you try to install it it will tell you this patch is not for your system. That tells you you got the incorrect one.

This is gonna be my last post in this thread. Theres no reason for me to need to be posting all this twice.

Starting to think it has to be a drivers issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Theres a reason I have so many driver options posted for the 9x cards. Roll yours back to the 174.74s. However listening to the rest of your posts, I'm convinced you have hardware issues as well, and we may never get this one fully stable. Many of your issues do NOT line up with this bug.

Switched from a 9600GT (which did not have the issue) to two 7900GS cards in SLi mode. Single mode has no crashes. SLi mode would slowly start dropping frames, then give me the display driver not working error. Crash happens within half an hour of the game being started. After the initial crash and game restart (no reboot), the game normally runs fine for as long as I play, but occasionally i may crash again with the same symptoms.

I dont know whether to laugh at you or cry with you having given a working card to your wife! Uggh! Thats gotta make you want to pull your hair out!!

This is I THINK the first I've heard of this errror on a 7xxx series card, but then again your not getting it until you SLI. I was previously asking folks to break SLI for testing and that may have been part of it.

However, I notice your still on a 178 driver. You've probably figured out that my stock answer at this point for anything the hotfix isnt fixing is "roll em back!" But if your happy with only a few crashes a day, enjoy!

(I still think its sweet you gave your wife your working card!)

I do get a bluescreen on windows boot up, which is new since I applied the hotfix. The machine tries again and no problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Glad to hear its working for you even if this bluescreen makes me raise an eyebrow. Hrrmm. Anyways, glad your in game and thanks for the update!

For some reason, my new rig can't play COH without the latest driver for my card. When I try to rollback the driver to one of the ones listed, only the top left quadrant of the screen is used for the window. I tried typing my username and password blind, but it doesn't take. Has anyone heard of an issue like this? I don't mind a rollback, but it doesn't seem to be working

    [/ QUOTE ]

When your rolling back its grabbing a stock resolution that highly doesnt match your monitor. I'm pretty sure the answer folks used to this was to grab tweakcoh and set the settings before starting the game. I think you also can try starting the game in safemode for about the same access to the game panel.
  14. I clarified how to get the files in my other thread, including posting a screenshot, although its out on page 5 or such I think.
  15. I promised a reply and now several days later my Vista 64 machine with 8800GT is stable on the latest WHQL drivers using sp2 beta.

This is starting to look consistent for MOST of the 8x cards and 2x cards... still not looking so good for many of the 9x cards though. Like Ex noted from tech support in a previous thread, most 9x's are still requiring a driver rollback. Wish we could puzzle out why, but at least we know.

I tried various flavors of drivers with the v2 patch installed and CoH invariably crashes after 0-10 minutes of doing essentially nothing in game.

That's MIGHTY fast for this bug. ..... This topic is going to turn into a big mess real fast if we try to help everyone in one topic. It's best if you all make your own topics. (Preferably after reading the "common solutions" topic. Hint hint. Nudge nudge. )

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT!

Also a mess because we have two very similar threads going on, one of which doesnt mention that it sorta covers vista 32s.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Not sure how to get into safe mode on Vista.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    How about following step 5?
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I have a problem where Vista will not let me downgrade or rollback to another driver... it automatically upgrades itself again and I can't stop it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even when you follow my guide and use the driver sweeper from safe mode?
  19. Just because you have the right fix# doesnt mean you properly selected your OS. Infact if your using anything but IE, it told you to get the incorrect version. You MUST expand the options and be sure to get the OCTOBER fix for the CORRECT OS. This browser issue is annoying.

For Vista 64, you want (x64)
For Vista 32, you want (x86)

The fix numbers are the same, but the OSs are not.

Edited to add: On the hotfix page, FIRST click "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages" and THEN click "Show additional information". It takes TWO clicks to fully expand this menu to see all the details. (If you dont see it expanding you may have a slider bar as well.)

    Screenshot
  20. Expand the details, you want the one from October.
  21. How bout the ones I actually listed in the guide once you flip the x64 and x86 flags?

    Windows Vista All (Global) x64 sp2 Fix245313 Vista 6000 3177788 10/22/2008 12:26:21 AM

Basically you need the ones from October. Version 2 of the hotfix although they dont call it that.

Folks... please remember if you want me to look at these I need your full reports.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget Tease, there are others here who help and we also want to see those reports.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Truth! Okay.. take two... *WE* need to see those reports.

However in this case, it simply sounds like Shining just needs to do a driver rollback. We're going to have to keep an eye on that 9xxx series cards though and see if they're simply being particular or if this is still showing in other cards.
  23. That hotfix page lists both, you just have to do show additional hotfixes or additional information. Its only showing one because its (trying to) autodetect your system specs. As far as I understand it, the hotfix is included in sp2 for both x86 and x64.
  24. No, the sp2 designates that this hotfix is included in the sp2 (beta). Once everyone has sp2 installed, this wont be something we have to send folks to download.
  25. Shining you actually havent given me much information on the crash or the rest of your system specs. It is however definitely worth attempting a driver rollback. As Ex noted in another post the 9x series card particularly has been one that the tech support has been dealing with on an older driver.

Folks... please remember if you want me to look at these I need your full reports.
