Quote:They messed around with this a bit a few years ago and I don't remember the final outcome. I think the final outcome was that name on inactive account under level 10 = available?I have noticed that when I create a new character that the hardest part of character creation has been finding a name that is not already in use. If there is anything a player wants it is unique character with a cool name. I do not like the idea of throwing a number after a name just to have a certain title. How about a name generator or giving veteran players some priority on names. I am sure there are pleanty of dead accounts that are soaking up some very cool names. Just a suggection.
Server transfers have caused me to lose some of my older names, "The Flashlight" being the saddest.
However, I was tickled to get Tooth Ache yesterday on my new evil dentist. -
I’m three months shy of 48 and not uber, but still wanted to reply
Quote:The day I purchased my account I rolled two characters. My fire/storm/ice controller and my Emp/Dark/Power Defender. The controller was my first 50, the defender my 3rd.What toons have you been playing for all this time?
Quote:Have you played one from when you started till now?
Quote:Whats your favourite build?
Solo, I love the slobbering carnage of a brute. My DM/FA has been a blast ever since her teens and Claws/WP is already showing signs of being just as much fun. -
Quote:Any combination of 4 defenders, controllers or corruptors. Four defenders that skip the fitness pool in favor of the leadership pool are going to steamroll through the content. Some friends wanted to start a static team to level up together and take on the SF/TF. I we have yet to deside CoV/CoH. So it got me wondering, what type of combos for a four man team THAT ARE FUN to play would be truely effective, if not game breaking; something that could really steamrole AV's come mid to late 30s.
Any ideas?
Gamebreaking would be all rad defenders. A group of us formed one of these a few years ago. It was before IOs, so it took more members to keep stacked AMs permanently on everyone. We set ourselves on invincible in King's Row and never lowered it. I can't remember if LR gave us issues in the STF. I do remember Carnies were the first group to actually challenge us and require some strategy. -

Quote:No, what you do is make a female character, make it look very similar to her except go too far in whatever area about her body she is sensitive about.Mine never nags me about my game time, but she won't touch the game either. I've even tried to get her to make a character for me just to get her into the character creator, but alas... no.
She's got her books and I've got my games. And her books.
Then say "Look honey. . . I made YOU in the game."
Once she gets done hitting you a few times she will kick you out of your chair and fix it. . .. . . and then four years later you'll be asking her to lead another Posi because you need the merits.
Of course, I wouldn't know from personal experience or anything. I have absolutely no body image issues about my thighs. -
Quote:One of the nicest teammates we've ever picked up was around 12 playing on his dad's account. He was so happy when he found out it was a Mom, dad and teenager playing.<-------------------------43 right thurr
I think the youngest player (that I know of) that I've played with was like ten? She was playing with a parent in e PuG I was in in the Hollows, most likely on another parent's account because she was running a squiddie. She was pretty cute; her Keldian(sp?) kept saying "meep!" and I'd go "Hm, must be squid-talk."
I'm still kicking myself for not adding him as a global friend. -
Quote:I know you're going to claim this doesn't count:The DEVs aren't pro-farming. I would like to see a quote where they say that they are. They have said all along that they are against farming because it decreases the longevity of play for some players because they find it boring.
Quote:Some people enjoy having specific self set goals. I enjoy building some of my characters towards specific goals, those that I have specific goals for I play with a mind towards those specific goals.
When I play my Ill/Rad I'm focused on getting to the final goal (my final goal, which is different than anyone else's), I have so many goals for him that I strongly doubt I'll ever achieve them all given my playtime and style, but every step closer makes me smile.
Other characters are more for less directed fun. Those that I don't have goals for, I tend to play in a much less directed manner. I don't really care what I'm doing on my scrapper for instance. If it sounds fun, that's where I'm going. I doubt I'll even bother with common IO's for that one, much less an optimized build.
Farmers farm because they are farmers. It doesn't matter even how you define farming, it could be street sweeping in atlas. If you define their group membership based on an activity, if they participate in that activity they are a member of the group. There is not one answer to why all of them participate in that activity, each one has their own personal reasons.
Given that it's a video game, I'm guessing that the answer for most people is they derive some sort of enjoyment from farming. And that's probably the only true answer to your question. -
Quote:LOL! We were running a +4 STF this weekend (get 'em while you can). Went very smooth, but there were a few reminders to please "run into the mobs if you're going to die" by the rad defender.Teammates (if they can be called that) that immediately use an awaken when they fall in battle, when they've been asked not to several times, while I'm on a Radiation Corruptor that has taken powers designed to take advantage of the situation: Vengeance, Fallout, Recall Friend, and Mutation.

The AE discussions remind me of the heated debates about TF recipe rewards.
Remember how upset people were over QKaties. There was much back and forth about if it was an exploit, villians were being excluded, the flood of recipes keeping them cheap. (Sound familiar?) Remember how happy some people where when that was fixed. People came onto the forums declaring how great it was that they could get other TFs going.
How long after that did the Hessathons start?
There is a trend, Im curious as to what the next one will be. -
Quote:I just rolled a new brute, guess you'll get at least one play.I was thinking this would be the case as well and I made a lowbie villain's arc because snakes get old. It's been up for like two weeks now (I think) and it's not been played once. :P
On the other hand, even if it never is, guess what? Now I never have to fight snakes again.
I think a lot of what's slowed down AE play is the whole perception that's "it's lousy XP so no one's interested so I'm not going to bother either" (sort of like how 'lolstalkers' still exists even if wrong). The doom-criers sort of provided something of a self-fulfilling prophecy on this one.
Quote:Another really good feature would be similar to Amazon.com with a "people who liked this arc also liked..." list that would be presented to you when you complete the arc. That would make a lot more sense to have than that big search tags window that doesn't do anything. (WTF is it there for anyways?) -
As far as playstyles that drive me nuts (many of which listed above):
Attention ******. If you decide to play on a team, be a member of the team. Dont try to get everyone to notice what an amazing job you are doing.
Blaster teammate: Did you see that! I was totally tanking that mob.
Me: Yes, those cold shields and quicksand had nothing to do with it. *eyeroll* -
I'm an ADD farmer. I kept meaning to farm this weekend and would then get distracted by a shiney.

Quote:I hope that I'm half that cool in another 25 years.I will officially out my mom. She plays with me all the time.
I'm 42, and she's 21 years older than I am.
And she's an awesome player, working on her 42 month vet badge.
I've been the baby on the team at 38 years of age. My husband is 42. I remember one of our friends celebrating 63. -
I need to post the butthurt reply form. . . . .but my mortgage demands that I don't google "butthurt" at work.

Quote:My Ill/TA is a ton of fun. There is always something to do, and TA brings some of the hard control that ill is missing. Thanks Mirage
I gave it a shot, but it wasn't clicking.
Oddly enough, I assembled an Illusion/Trick Arrow controller, and I love it :P
I personally need to stay active to enjoy a combination. Ice is not a very active primary, so I would be bored pairing it with any of the secondaries with long duration buffs such as Thermal.
To be fair though, my plant/thermal is the only "shield" controller I've played, and it's been stuck at 45 for a while. I guess I just tend to enjoy them more on a defender or corruptor. (I'm thoroughly enjoying my cold/arch right now). -
Quote:Welcome to the game. Feel free to PM me if you want to set up a time for someone to run you around a bit, show you the basics.I just joined the game yesterday and played on my first team up last night playing a defender. Had fun doing it, but I'm sure I made my share of newbie mistakes. I'm still getting a handle on chats, tells, etc. I'm a little slow sometimes in reacting--especially if there's a lot of stuff going on. I'm sure I'll improve as I continue to play the game. Your comments here help, but if you see my character playing on your team and I screw up, please feel free to pull me aside after the fireworks and tell me what I've done wrong.
Definitely visit the defender boards for specific advise about your build, but I'll give my standard emp comments.
1) Early game your heals are going to be your most effective powers. However, your buffs and attacks are going to be what you use late game, so you'll want to take them and slot them. Fortitude is considered one of the best buffs in the game.
2) Unless you are committed to only one character at a time, playing the other ATs will give you a lot of insight into your defender. For me, playing the other ATs (including a variety of other defenders) caused both the buffing and healing of empathy to become instinctive.
If you play with the same attitude as your post, you're going to find that people are more than happy to answer any questions you might have and laugh with you over mistakes. We were all new once. -

One of the advantages of ice is that it is so effective with just a few powers. This helps with a secondary that has very few skippable powers (Cold would be one of those secondaries).
My damage went up exponentially once they added IOs and I was able to slot procs into Arctic Air (I actually only have 2 of the 3 damage procs in it) and when the changed Jacks AI so that he actually entered melee instead of throwing snowballs.
But, like grav, its not a set I see myself rolling over and over again. At most Id roll each one more time with /storm. I love earth for its ability to actually. . . . control. Ill and fire will always be the controllers that can also solo. Ice was just a nice change of pace. -
My goto, can handle anything - ill/rad
My can't stop playing, will never retire due to fun:
Tie between fire/storm troller and dm/fa brute.
None of my characters are currently maxed out, I've just recently developed an interest in end game builds.
That's why I love the game, there are so many different facets to focus on. -
Too cute.
They grow up so fast. <sigh> -
There are times that even CM is necessary on a tank. Stacking mezzes can overcome their protection. On the STF, you need to stack CM to keep GW from mezzing a tank.

God I love this server. . . . .. . .While I'll make fun of anyone that wanks about neg rep, I received my favorite rep to date with this thread
"I just repped all over your face"
You know who you are, and I <3 you for it. -
Quote:I haven't played with color customizing sonic yet, I know what I'll be doing tonight. Thanks for the ideas.A problem easily rectified with color customization. A blue-tinted Sonic Blaster I teamed with was some of the coolest effects I've seen. The "classic" Sonic blasts are indeed pretty boring, being translucent, but toying around with the colors makes for some very nice effects.
Quote:Sonic has resistance debuffs - which means that you decrease the enemy's ability to resist the damage you do to them. End result - you do more damage per "hit". You can see this if you observe your numbers after a successful hit or two.
Blue sonic powers... hmm, have to give that a shot on my Dark / Sonic defender...
You will see a lot of fire blasters as the set "looks" like it does more damage, and many folks who play blasters want to feel... well... blastery. It also has a very early AoE power, and no matter what, you just can't help feeling like a bad*** when you shoot a fireball into a group and see all those orange damage numbers float over their heads.
Of course the flip side is that if you don't kill them, then you will soon be seeing many RED numbers floating over YOUR head. Then the pavement rushing up to meet your face. Then the inside of a Hospital. Hopefully, you'll have Viv as your nurse.
There is a section with player guides that can help you with your power choices. -
Quote:Do you realize that we are pantless on Triumph? I'm not sure that sending RP'ers to a server full of pantless people is the best idea. They are right, RP folks are the minority, so perhaps since your IN THE MINORITY, then move to a smaller server, establish a whole new RP community there, I suggest Triumph or Infinity. You'll have the D to yourselves & entire areas of to RP in, without issues with the Non RP folks.
