Put on the list to play.
I'm looking forward to other reviews. -
Quote:For all my examples listed above, there is absolutely no time I'd rather have the knockback than knockdown.Actually, the same argument can be used the other way round. The OP suggested -kb enhancement to suppress kb, which imply that kb "suck." Currently, there is no mechanism to suppress kb, which might suggest that kb is "great."
But if you ask yourself, is kb always great? And also, is kb always suck? In my opinion, it depends on the situation. Sometimes it is the best not to kb. The problem with the OP's suggestion is that the suppression is done at the enhancement level, so the effect is permanent till the player switches build. This is not ideal as sometimes it is great and essential to kb. Although the suggestion is going to the extreme of eliminating kb, it doesn't mean that the idea of suppressing kb situationally is entirely wrong, because it is good not to kb sometimes.
I think what is missing in the kb mechanics is the ability for players to control kb and kd in real time rather than using enhancement for powers like energy blasts.
However, if this was put into place, I would use the dual build on my energy/pain corruptor. Knockdown build for teaming, knockback for solo. -
Quote:How do you know? The Devs won't give you your own base nor add that function any time soon.
Over the years I've seen a lot of things added to the game that people suggested just to have other people came in and tell them "devs are never going to do that."
I fully support your idea OP. I'd love to support the SGs in my coalitions and still have my own personal storage/crafting space. -
Triumph - first we were the "nice" server. Then we became the "pantless" server.
Now we've become "Triumph - don't you wish you could have more than 5 global channels?" -
As we discussed in other threads, the difference between knockdown/knockback is magnitude (easily seen by using a knockdown power on a green enemy or a knockback power on a purple). People seem quite tolerant of allowing players to slot knockback into their knockdown powers but then argue against allowing people to slot knockdown into knockback powers.
As also stated in the other thread proper use of knockback on a team is essentially using the powers as a knockdown. (i.e., hovering, using a wall, etc.). It could be argued that being able to turn knockback into a knockdown could overpower some sets. That is the reason I dont believe well ever get the enhancement.
Still, I have quite a few powers Id love to be able to slot this into so that I dont grief myself as the knockback is a hindrance to my own powers (not even talking about teams).
I could bore you all with a list, but here are a few:
Fire/elec blaster. Radial knockback thunderstrike means that I have to either wait to use this high damage power or grief my own fireball/firebreath.
Gravity anything the knockback on wormhole is ridiculous.
My dark blast, archery and sonic defenders dont take their knockback AoEs. Inconsistent knockback does not make up for risking enemies out of a debuff.
My corruptor will not be taking Explosive Blast or Nova. If I cant gurantee theyll all die, Im definitely not going to send them flying in every direction.
When is the last time you saw anyone take handclap on a SS character? -
Quote:I think those of us that are stuck doing vendor testing for a living are always going to scratch our head in wonder over people that do it for fun. (but I'm extremely grateful to all of them for doing it.)Speaking as a battle-scarred software developer, I don't really think that's true (there's always a limited capacity to fix bugs before release) but even if it was true, I don't get it. When I go to eat dinner at a restaurant I don't particularly want to help prep the kitchen to make sure I get good food.
Don't get me wrong: I appreciate that a lot of people want to get in on the closed beta tests (if nothing else it helps detect any obvious load or performance issues), I just don't understand them.
I wanted to get on the test server the other day and started cracking up when the first patch being applied started with 2006. -
Welcome aboard to all three new people. The only server I share with you David is Protector. While it's not my "home" server, it's a wonderful home away from home. I'd highly recommend checking out their forum and perhaps joining either their badge channel "Protector Watch" or "JelloShooters" which is more of a community channel.
About 50% of the time I use click options instead of chat commands for invites, etc. Over the years Ive managed to kick people off the team, SG, etc. One day, I did both to one friend. Its a good thing she has an excellent sense of humor (and drinks a lot of beer). -
Wow, this is a wonderful bit of information for any annoying sounds. Thank you.

Quote:Yes, my husband dug out his Invul/SS to check the defense numbers and jumped into a huge mob, it was deafening. I'm pretty sure it's a known issue, but now I need to do some searching.I've only recently gotten Invincibility on my new tanker but this past Saturday I was running him and we were hearing this mechanical noise while fighting enemies. It sounded a little like a sewer pump.
At first I thought it was the trolls we were fighting and filed a bug report. But when we got outside and were ambushed by tsoo they were making the noise too. Finally we each engaged a different random group on the street and found it was only me making the noise. Then I tried turning off various toggles and found it was Invincibility.
It was so annoying I played the next hour with that toggle turned off.
I'm 19th level so I'm certain I've played with this power in our previous session. I find it hard to believe I didn't notice the sound then. I'm hoping it is a bug with the latest patch, or perhaps a side-effect of using the minimal fx customization. I guess I need to change it back to default to see if it erases the noise.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Edit - Looks like BaBs is aware:

Quote:Poor /ice, it fell from glory to being the secondary that people completely forget about.Yeah, for me one of the biggest things in choosing secondaries comes down primarily to the 'utility' type powers, then the general choice between AoE or ST. (Though I have to admit, most of mine are concept driven, so I choose by that anywise, and take what I get.)
/Thorns: gets aim. this is great for if you hate missing, and gives some damage. Also great Aoe's, which works out well if you team a lot. (Or post I16, crank to higher team sizing scales.)
/Energy: greater controls via power boost, mostly single target damage. Mind/Nrg gives some of the best control in the game, especially in domination. This will help control on teams, but doesn't offer much if you're aiming for a steamroller build.
/Elec: good damage boost, damage focused on single targets. If you want more damage, this is a build that can give you *oomph* against limited targets.
/Psi: A 'middle of the road' set, has some good Aoe, good single target. Mastery of neither. Drain psyche, however, lets you bypass stamina and helps heal you between controls. My Mind/Psi has no fitness pool, and rarely needs to carry greens.
/Fire: good AoE's, good damage. This gives you a good, long +damage, as well as a way to recover endurance. The downside is that it has no mitigation, but as a mind/ you have that in gobs. The other downside is that fiery embrace works well with most everything, but works better for a fire/ dom. No biggie. Other downside is, this set can feel a tad slow at times.
/Earth: this one's pretty new to me, but it seems to have more mitigation built in, even besides power boost, but seems slower as well. Looks to have mostly St, so again may not be the best 'steamroller' set.
Me? I'd lean toward /fire for helping with large spawns, /psi for longevity, or /energy for control. /Earth helps for the latter as well, just be aware that the damage type is a bit more resisted. -
Yes, there are certain people that are just unlucky. Come join our club.
It's even worse when you are married to one of the lucky ones.
It used to be more blatant when the end of the TF would drop the recipe, but he still does great on random rolls.
Since the fix, my best drop has been a Crushing Impact. I'm not complaining, I've made so many millions selling the standard IOs that have dropped, I'm almost done with a build I thought would take another month.
My husband logged on for the first time since the patch last night. We were in the RWZ, parking characters for a MSR and decided to smack around a few Rikti.
In the second group, one of the bosses dropped him a Numina rec/regen. -
Quote:Thanks for the support
I am closing in on 40 with Biospark, and it keeps getting easier.
For everyone else, Very much appreciate the responses to this thread.
My next character project is going to be WildMage (a controller) and I want a very flashy and potent elementalist. Kinda leaning toward Fire-Storm-Earth, but not very fond of the earth Armor graphics. Earth-Storm-Fire would be a great teaming build with lots of end game potential AND Consume , mmmm yummmy
Mine is Fire/Storm/Ice, and I'm currently working on a build where my #1 focus was +recovery. -

As the others have said, earth/ta is not a combination I would roll for solo play. I have an earth/kin with 2 vet powers and air superiority, I still save her for teams.
Quote:I would take both. Quicksand also has def (which helps those vet powers hit) and glue arrow has recharge.I am not sure if I need both Glue Arrow and Quicksand
I did take stone cages to help with wandering after stalagmites. I dont use them on top of earthquake. Later in the game, AoE immobs are also handy for setting up containment for the epic AoE damage powers.
Even though it doesnt fit my playstyle, there are people that like flash arrow (and smoke from fire) for the limited stealth it supplies. With all the control you have between your two sets, 5% -toHitt is not going to do much for your team. -
Quote:Agreed. Not whining, but I just can't get into doms like I used to. I might be imagining it, but the dom boards seem to have slowed down quite a bit post-buff too.Doms used to be my favorite AT hands down but not anymore. I honestly had alot more fun on my doms pre "buffs" than I do post. They play alot different to me somehow now and I just don't like it. If I were still into playing doms I'd join you.
Not sure how many of the doms on that carnie team were mind/psi, but I remember thanking my team for allowing me to leach exp on carnie missions while playing mine. -
Oh, nice.
If I can keep my eyes open, I'll be there for both. -
Quote:This summarizes my family and I, along with most of my ingame friends over the years. That's why we all tend to stay on the "low" population servers. Some people need more close knit socialization than large groups provide. I can't theorize on the reasoning behind that, due to my mental disorders. But I would expect that these people would play on lower population servers, but specifically seek to join established and relatively stable communities within those "smaller" servers, provided that they are not "ZOMG TOP NUMBAR ON SG" groups. These people want extended virtual families and dear friends, not fame/glory/to be part of something larger.
There is a comfort in teaming with the same people year after year. People tend to bring their personality and playstyle to the team more so than what is "expected" of that AT. So, even if everyone on the team is on a brand new character, it's probably going to go smoothly, and we know instintively how the others will react. This leaves time for inside jokes and bantering, etc. -
Quote:Except for those times where OSA doesn't light for the entire mission.Yep, this is true. Plus it has a certain style when you're fighting Malta or something in the 40s and you use the wussy little power most people don't use after level 5 to toast an entire spawn.
Made me very sad the other day as I was in the mood for toasted crey. They aren't nearly as tasty raw. -
Quote:This is actually a reasonable suggestion and I'd support it.I don't have a problem finding names, quite honestly. But I wouldn't be against a 60 day name retention policy for trial accounts - if they don't purchase the full version, the names and such are wiped. I don't know how many names are tied up *there,* and they max out at 14 (now,) but you never know.
-
I'm not ebil (yet) but I love seeing these screenies.
Mainly because I love how seeing people set up their trays, arrange windows, etc.
And congratulations. I think your screenshots make it very clear that the devs hate heroes and that villians are overpowered -
Quote:I tried to keep the +reps going through the entire process, but thank you!...all of you, devs and players, for helping fix the drop rates.
I didn't get a chance to test until this morning, but ran the Unai 1st dimension map this morning at 0/8 and had to leave to sell before clearing the map. No purples, but made a good dent toward the cash I need for her next build and had a LoTG Def drop that allowed me to put some nice bids in on recipes I did need. -
We've been running Posi TFs a lot in our house. We can start it with our three accounts. It's been quite pleasant to run it while having stamina and getting exp.

Quote:After we ran our all rad defender team, we created an all corruptor team, play whatever primary secondary you like and we all took assault/tactics. Pain didnt exist back then, but we had a mixture of everything else with two of us running /sonic.Toss me in the stacked corruptors camp.
I'd mix it up some, get say two Son/ to double those debuffs, a Fire/ for the pure damage, a /Pain for the odd heal, /Kin cause really how can that not help, a /Cold and a /Son would have +def and +res shields for buffs and the cold for debuffs. Toss in a Dark/ for the -acc debuffs
hmm no rad tho.. drop the pain and switch it to Son/Rad.
Son/Rad
Fire/Cold
Son/Kin
Dark/Son
that'd be a fun group
Poor Back Alley Brawler, I think he melted the fastest.
When it became time to run the LRSF, one of the members was not able to make it. We jumped on (then Liberty teaming channel) LBx and announced that we needed one more. We had fun imagining the brutes face when he hit accept and saw that he had joined with 7 corruptors running leadership. To call it a cakewalk would make it sound more difficult than it was. (he/she was an excellent brute IIRC). -
Quote:The best part is that you learn a little bit doing the research.Well this won't end well. By the way, I suggest a thesaurus and an encyclopedia.
Of course, you get some interesting names too. When I couldn't get any combination of Nettle for my spines/fa, I ended up using the name "Urticaceae" No one types the slash command to invite to a team and my husband keeps declaring that it sounds like a female body part.
