True, but I didn't know he was in the AP police station upon first landing in AP from the tutorial. Once I found him, I realized this is an option. New players, however, will not know this (it's not in the tutorial nor in popups, you are directed to Ms. Liberty).

And BaBs as a seamstress? Surreal.

No, sir, I do not like it.
ha, I saw the same thing in beta. And at least two people right next to Ms. Liberty who were AFK. I had to jostle around to get to a spot where I could click her to train to my brand new level 2. If that is how vets are, imagine what it'll be like when new players come on and truly don't know how annoying it is to be crowding around like that (especially if you're afk, spamming powers, just standing there reading some phone contact text; i.e. not really needing to be glued to Ms. Liberty), impeding other players from actually doing something at that trainer.

I dincerely doubt anything will stop this going live anyway, since it's patently been implented to increase exposure to the Paragon Store, but I've noticed that a lot of players seemingly dont bother viewing the Open Beta boards to see what's coming, and if you don't go voice your opinion there about anything you don't like, you've got less justification to complain after it goes live.

    Eco
True. But this won't be changed. They want freeps and premiums to see all the cool costume pieces they could be wearing, and they want them to see it at each and every level. It's like when you go to the grocery store and they have all the good stuff at eye level. Supposedly it works. We'll see. I still think it's insane to make Infernal, Ms. Liberty, et al. into tailors, but it's all about da' monies.
  6. Really not a fan of this change. I don't mind them putting a tailor in more zones, but Ms. Liberty? Swan? War Witch? Valkyrie? Infernal? It just . . . boggles the mind.

I'd rather merit vendors could do it; they're everywhere (usually two standing right next to each other). That would at least make more sense (and make it easier for people to buy costume slots and pieces from the Paragon store--because that's what this change is about, nothing to do with the game's lore. Obviously.).

I guess I just don't get this. A lvl 50 was always massively more powerful than a lvl 1 (or 39), and there was always a range of "uberness" in lvl 50s (purpled out, multi-billion inf blasters make SO'd or even regular IO'd blasters look like lvl 39s in comparison, even if they're played poorly.). Even before incarnates, there was a limit to how uber your toon could be, an end to it, if you think of it that way. Is it just that the disparity is wider now and seems more obvious? Or that it takes less to get the same uber results and is now not exclusive to hardcore gamers, min/maxers, and marketeers? Even so, a purpled out, multi-billion inf incarnate toon is going to be more "uber" than an SO'd or IO'd incarnate toon. Run on a team with one of each, or heck, just build one of each. The difference is startling (and, to me at least, quite pleasing ).

    - Start/Join a concept group. Honestly, it is one of the most fun experiences I have had. The story is happening to you and the rest of the your supergroup/team; you are all living the same saga. You aren't running missions with a bunch of random heroes/villains. Rather, you are running missions with people who have a dynamic together, which leads to a much tighter teaming experience. Also, since it is a static team dynamic, you never feel useless on the team. Your role becomes crucial to the dynamic, and your absence is very noticeable.

    - Try out a bunch of different power set combinations to find a new one that fits. In my case, I am currently in love with my Sonic/Sonic Defender. I always disliked Defenders because, to someone like me who usually plays Blasters, the lack of damage output was depressing. But this guy turns teammates into monsters, and thanks to the debuffs, has a decent amount of damage output as well. Find something else that works for you?

    - Take a break! Sure, stay subscribed, but step away from the game for a week or two, or more if needed. Odds are, you will be drawn back to the game, just like you are drawn back to playing the game now. Except, after being away from it, exactly what it is that you find fun in this game should be crystal clear, and you can focus on doing that once you return.
These are awesome suggestions! Joining a concept group or something that you enjoy (like an all-one AT group or hardcore or . . . ) really brings back the fun. At least it did for me. You like support toons, check out the plant superteam that runs on Freedom (the only reason I ever play on that server is that). It's so much fun. But that's just an example, there are so many such groups that options are massive. Check out individual server forums or the player events forms or the individual AT forums for a group that sounds fun to you or challenging and run with it. Another group is the Iron Eagles. Want a challenge? How about when your toon dies, it's dead. Over. The end. It's amazing fun, very challenging, and a completely different play style (it also makes comments like "if you don't die x number of times, you're not trying" hugely amusing ). So, yes, consider finding some concept group that clicks with you; it really does breathe new life into the game.

Dabbling with various powerset combos is also fun. There's a thread (somewhere in the forums, forget where) where someone is taking on the challenge of taking the "worst" AT/powerset combos and trying to make it uber, thus debunking the "worst" labels. That sounds intriguing to me (not something I'd be interested in, but I'm interested in seeing how that experiment goes). I started MM's for a change of pace, and found myself absorbed in learning how to manage them, set up binds, and stuff. I'm no good on them, for the most part, but it's fun to try and there are great guides for . . . well, everything.

Taking a break is sometimes just needed. Burn-out and blah happen no matter how fabulous anything is; too much of a good thing and all that.

Other things I do when I just can't face doing yet another door mish or iTrial:

    1. badging (not for everyone, but absorbing as pancake if you like it)
    2. slowing down and actually taking time to read arcs that I haven't read in years (they're surprisingly good for the most part, and if you stopped reading them after the first time, revisiting them can be fun and absorbing)
    3. soloing if you usually team or teaming if you usually solo also adds a "new" twist
    4. working on my sg base (it's not special, but I do sometimes get engrossed in adding to it, redesigning it, stocking it, changing colors/styles, etc.)
    5. starting a new toon with a plan (this toon will only level in AE, via arcs, on radios, solo, teamed, on tf's, whatever)
    6. joining server events if you don't usually (hami, mothership raids, the upcoming beach party on, I think, Virtue), etc.

You get the idea, just set personal challenges or take advantage of something that you've not yet bothered with (create and test your missions/arcs, if you've never done that, try your hand at farming/marketing/whatevering, etc.); play the game differently, in other words.

No need to even mention that you're doing it, either...just slap it down and go on your way making things confused and viney.
This would work on a team that didn't need a troll for the actual battles or have a back line of squishies to protect (and if the buff could be acquired by running right past it).
  11. Tahliah

    Spirit Tree

The trees are quite useful in trials and other AV-heavy / big fight endgame content. Just plop them down in the middle of the action; they recharge rather quickly (I usually cast one, then before it's gone, cast another), so can be dropped again if the team/league moves on (such as at the end of lam).

That said, the HoT would be very helpful in many more scenarios, making the spirit tree more attractive to players. Personally, I have "trial" build and a regular build on my plant troll, and the "regular" build does not have spirit tree because it's rare that a mish or tf team will stand in one spot long enough to make it worth dropping the tree or even necessary to do so (she's plant/emp).

I do wonder how effective a "stand by the tree and get a buff that stays with you" would be if there were also a HoT element added, though. Another thing is that teams move fast, plowing through content, so it seems unlikely that a team is going to stand around a tree, even for a few seconds to get a regen buff. It would also make those annoying "GATHER!" messages far more frequent, a definite downside.

I'll be interested to see what others have to say; the ideas an intriguing one.
  12. Big big dittoes. I love the game, too, and feel the same way about some of the not so positive feedback I've been posting of late. It's no reflection at all on my general feeling about the game or even about Freedom. There are some things in it that I don't like and will never like, but so what? I don't currently like grinding iTrials, either, and never will, but that doesn't mean I'm an unhappy camper. Not by a long long shot.

    Summer Event?

There could be surfing contests (hoverboards seem to have a viable animation for that) and Frisbee (or as catching it would be difficult, how about kite flying). We could use our cocktail umbrella salvage to buy neat costume pieces like sarongs to wear over our bikinis (sort of like the steampunk skirts, only maybe shorter and turned/tied to the side) and floppy straw sun hats. Ooh, and garish "Hawaiian shirts" and big flower leis, maybe water wings or something silly instead of the rock or lump of coal.

We could get a "summon lifeguard" temp power (like build snowbeast, or maybe a build sandbeast), and the summer mission could be to stop [insert villain] from ruining the beach party or save lifeguards from some summer horror. The villains could be evil sand monsters (like shivans maybe, only sandy), with the eb/av being some kind of uber sandmonster, and the mission could take place in a sand castle. Or it could be some kind of water event, with villain fishes, and the eb/av could be a monster murderous shark who's killing all the summer surfers and swimmers thus ruining summer fun for everyone in the new beachy-summer zone (or just drag Lusca over and have a water battle between Lusca and the summer shark thing ala Jack in Irons and Eochai, while teams and / or leagues take them both down). Or the villains could be winter event villains who want to bring perma-winter to Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria. We have to track them down by following their evil trail of frozen waterways, perhaps shining our summer sun on them to thaw them all out. Okay, getting sillier by the minute, but I do love the idea of a summer event.

    Cor/Def = SKIP IT! *cries*
The crash makes nuking on defenders practically useless; a defender needs end to defend the team and her/himself. I think I've only used the nuke on my defenders in a handful of special cases where the circumstances meant that my being unable to use any of my defensive powers (from debuffs, to shields, to bubs (especially when dispersion bubble detoggles), to heals) was acceptable.

My theory is that the Devs' numbers show that nukes with crashes are not being used often, probably even less now that Judgement has been around for a while. I know that, in my case, this holds true. I use Rain of Arrows at least 10 times as often as other nukes. While half of that maybe to due to the extraordinarily short recharge time, another part of it is that, after I've launched it, I can go right into using any of my other attacks without having to pop a blue, or run in to use some endurance recovery power. And nowadays, I would much rather launch my Cryonic Judgement and be able to keep on shooting rather than launching Blizzard, having to hit a blue, having to re-toggle 2 or more powers and THEN keep on shooting.

In short, I believe that those that use their nukes as often as they are up are in the minority. While "less damage" sounds bad in my head, I know I would use my nuke attacks far more often if I didn't have to worry about any end crash. And considering how seldom I use crashing nukes now, I probably wouldn't notice the damage difference.

    -----------

I do want to say this: If such a change were to occur, I think PBAoE nukes and ranged nukes should be treated differently. As has been stated, an Elec/ or Ice/ blaster does not have to worry about being surrounded by anything their nuke does not kill. As to how to do that and keep things balanced between power sets, and in relation to the game, I do not know, there are a lot of variables to consider.
Well, having a nuke act as any other high damage power . . . sure, I'd use it more, but it wouldn't be a nuke.

Adding to that difficulty is that the current crashless nukes really do hurt mobs, so a reduction in damage to their levels (or higher, if the Tier 9 for Beam Weapons is used as a targeting point) would not be a bad thing.

I also rather hope the recharge would be reduced on the Nukes (since their damage is lowered), which would also up their utility considerably.
I agree. I wouldn't mind the crash so much (popping blues isn't that hard), but retoggling is a major pain and keeps me from nuking as often as I otherwise might (maybe that's the intent?). I get that some people don't run a lot of / any toggles on blasters, but I do. Quite a lot, actually, and I want them on when I move to pick off any survivors. So it's nuke, gobble blues, turn on toggle, turn on toggle, turn on toggle, turn on toggle, turn on toggle, turn on toggle, pick of the remaining ones. Sure, sometimes, I just gobble blues and pick off the survivors, but that depends on what they are (how likely I am to be killed while hitting my toggles) and how debuffed they are, and it doesn't bypass the turning on of toggles after they're dead. It's annoying and time-consuming and keeps me from nuking as often as I'd like.

That said, I was once on an ITF where I got a tell from an emp/ telling me that they'd ensure crashless nukes. And what do you know, I nuked and giggled my way through that ITF with what seemed like perma-AB/RA, and I didn't end crash even once. Now I only wish I'd noted that emp's name, so I could bug him or her mercilessly to team with my blasters.

I must say that I would be in favor of this. I don't mind the weaker nukes like RoA, HoB, and Full Auto, because they don't have a crash. I do have crashing nukes on my Energy and Electric Blaster, but I don't use them all that much because of the crash. If those were removed, they would probably be used in my arsenal often, like their Judgement powers.

What do you all think of the idea? I think we'd like it, given past Blaster discussions, but I am curious to see what everyone else thinks.
Hmmm. I have mixed feelings about the damage-lessening thing. I'd love love love a crashless nuke, but if it's not nukey, what's the point? Better to tinker with the recharge/up time than to reduce damage, I think. I'd rather wait longer to do my nukey thing without crashing than to nuke and find everything damaged, but still standing.

I agree with this. Ill/ anything solos painfully and frustratingly slowly early on (to me, at least). Slow slow slow. It's not until you get to the Phantom Army (lvl 18) that it's doable at more than a snail's pace, and not until much later when it's actually fun (again, all of this is highly subjective, but that's been my experience). Post-32 Ill/ is about as much fun as you can have on a toon (if that's your thing), but getting there solo is . . . ugh.
  20. Best AT for leveling and solo play? An MM hands down. I don't PL or farm, and by far my fastest 50 ever has been my ds/poison MM (with my ds/dark MM is closing in on 50 fast, as well). I don't think I've teamed with either of them more than a handful times because I have so much fun soloing. I know that other MM's level equally fast (or faster), but for some reason I really love the demons.

I do think that a speed ITF is a bit much for someone with so little experience (but that's largely because I'm not a huge fan of speed anythings, I prefer to take my time and get as many drops/shards/shinies as possible, but that's a personal thing, many people love love love speed runs), but again, you went above and beyond, I think.

/This. Why not simply get a group together on your server who wants to play as you want to play? There are a lot of groups who run as all one AT or hardcore, etc., so why not start your own not-incarnate group (or whatever)? There are plenty of people who don't have any incarnate toons at all and lots who have only one (I have only one, for instance), there are also a lot of people who still don't use the invention system (at all. ever.), so it shouldn't be too difficult to find people who want to play as you do. Tell people you run with, or people in your sg, or post something in your server's forums to let people know you're starting such a group and run with it.

Welcome to the game! I'm so glad that you are loving it, but I do see the point about the lack of challenge, particularly at lower levels where the biggest challenge is usually end crashing and travel (running the Hollows used to be torture). You've got some great advice, and in addition to upping your difficulty settings or starting in Praetoria (noticeably more challenging and a very different lowbie experience), you guys might consider running some TFs. Granted, at the moment your lvl 9 is too low, but as soon as you get to lvl 10, head to Steel Canyon and visit Positron, he'll send you off to fight loads of clockworks (old style ones, not the new Praet ones) and CoT. Oh, and while you're there and after the Posi tf gets you a few levels, visit Montague at the University for the Midnighter's Arc (not a tf, but good fun and needed to get to Cim later). You'll fight Lost and CoT in that one. Those should be plenty challenging if you have your difficulty hiked up. Heck, just dealing with Lady Jane is plenty challenging. Heh.

With that out of the way: I was among the many that crashed the gates of VIP/Open Beta today. Unlike many others who headed straight for the new shinies like powersets, I headed for the not-so-shiny, but very desireable leak from Comic-Con: The purchasable Enhancement Trays. I wasn't very surprised, but was pleased to find out that there's other storage available too.

Aside: I was concerned, based on the Devs' previous stance concerning unslotting Enhancements via respec, that we'd only have access to one tray during a respec. This is not the case; we can use all the trays we have unlocked, and potentially pull up to 30 enhancements off a character per respec.

The various items are of varying cost, capacity, and maximum number purchasable. I can't log in from work, so this is from memory:

    Enhancement Trays (10 extra) - 1600 points/$20, Max 2
    Salvage (10 extra) - 800 points/$10, Max 10
    Recipes (5 extra) - 800 points/$10, Max 6
    Vault (5 extra) - 800 points/$10, Max 6
    Auction House (5 extra) - 800 points/$10, Max 6
    All purchases are account-wide.

So, I was looking it over, and trying to determine the value of each to me.

Enhancements: I always slot IOs, even before I use sets. Enhancement drops are essentially vendor bait, and I really don't notice or care if my enhancement tray fills while playing. It will be nice to be able to craft multiple full sets without stopping to slot them in between, but the real value will be in respecs. As stated above, these will allow me to pull three respecs of IOs off a character for each respec used.
Value: I feel that this one is close to the right mark. After all, there may be less respecs purchased as a result of this. I will eventually pick up both of these, though I might save up points rather than paying cash.

Recipes: Recipes are the opposite of enhancenments when it comes to drops. When I get the "Recipes Full!" pop up, I stop what I'm doing and delete crap, mail stuff to myself, or whatever else I need to do to free space. I've even stopped mid-fight ("Hey guys? I'm gonna stop killing you for a minute. No, go ahead, keep doing your thing, I'm not going anywhere" *starts rummaging through backpack*) to make sure that I don't miss out on any potential purples.
Value: I'm uncertain about this one. I want all the slots, but at $2/recipe, it seems a bit steep. Drop it to 400 points, and I'll be all over this. At the current price, I'll get them eventually - possibly via free points.

Salvage: Salvage, I treat much like SOs - when I fill up, I eventually get to the market and dump it. If I look in my salvage window and see that I have 21 Kinetic Weapons, I'll probably delete the stack, but I won't put more effort into saving room for "the good stuff" than that - the best salvage drops are easily obtained cheaply through the market and AE vendor.
Value: Low, to me. I do go out of my way to unlock all the Salvage space I can in-game, even spending Vanguard Merits on the Salvage Sack. But that gets me to 80 slots. I'd likely only buy them at 200 points/10 slots, and then, only if I had nothing else I wanted.

Vault space: Salvage space that can only be accessed when at a special building or in your base. Essentially becomes additional bag space if you have /vault, but that's a T8 reward. It also costs the same amount, for half the slots.
Value: None whatsoever. No matter what the price, I would not purchase these slots. However, if the Vault were changed so that it could hold anything - Enhancements, Recipes, Salvage, Inspirations, whatever! - I'd suddenly place a lot more value on these slots and the /vault command. Still, I'd be unlikely to pay more than 400 points/5 slots if I were even willing to pay that.

Market Slots: I don't store things on the market. I have personal SGs with plenty of bins; I don't need the market for storage. I'm not particularly patient either. I pay buy it now prices, and list most things for 1. So my market slots empty as fast as they fill. I don't tend to marketeer either - I make a lot just playing the game, so when I decide to slot out a character, I usually can without having to find the money. However, it annoys the crap out of me when my salvage window isn't empty yet, but my market slots are full.
Value: I'm OK with $10/5 slots for these, but I'd buy the Enhancement trays long before these, and probably the recipe slots too. And there's no way I'd buy all the slots. I'll never need 30+ market slots on a level 1 character.

Right now, if Freedom went live with these prices and you bought all the inventory increases, you'd be looking at $300 or all your free points for 5 years. I can't say for sure if I think these prices will drop. If they were all halved, it would still be $150 (or more than a 1 year subscription, or 10 months paid a month at a time), or all the points included with your subscription for 2.5 years (2 years, 2 months for a T9 VIP). Some of you are probably looking at these numbers screaming "TAKE MY MONEY!" while trying to cram your credit card into the CD tray. Others are shaking their head thinking "No pancaking way", even to the halved prices.

What about you? What would you buy? What would you buy, if the price drops. What would you never think of buying? And why?

*If I've remembered any of the above prices or limits wrong, or erred in any of the math I did in my head, let me know, and I'll correct it ASAP. Thanks!
Even halved (at the whopping $150 or 2.3 years), there is no way in the world I'd buy any of this stuff. I seriously doubt I'd pick any of it if it were one the free vet reward choices (depending on what the other choices were).
