  1. IMO, the best way to do this is get a mouse with some side/thumb buttons. I have a logitech mx 510 (I think). You can do this in the options menu in game. I binded target next enemy (Tab by default) to the top thumb button and target nearest to the bottom thumb button. It's VERY useful in zone/arena with a high volume of people. Target nearest is great for counterattacking quickly, or re-targeting after being confused or placated.

Im finding it hard to believe there are 87 players ACTIVEly pvping... especially on champion. *glances at champion forums*

I'd say you can't go wrong with that

I want to work on that toon because I love it, but if people respond with "How dare you even suggest such a thing, I'm going to kill you and your family!" I will be willing to try something else, and implore you to leave my family alone because they are decent, hard-working people who have done nothing to you....Anyways, if it is an ok idea I'd appreciate anything from general advice to a build that would work well. If it isn't, here are some other toons I have that I could work on if you think they'd be ok in PVP:

    50s
    Martial Arts/invuln scrapper
    ice/ice blaster
    Dark/rad defender
peacebringer (most likely a terrible idea I know)
    EM/EA stalker
    necro/traps MM

    non-50s
    nrg/kin corr
    pistols/rad corr
    emp/nrg def
    elec/shield scrapper
    kin/fire scrapper
    stone/elec tank
    elec/battle axe

If these are all terrible ideas for PVP, does anyone have a suggestion other than a Psi/em blaster or a /regen scrapper?
To be honest, despite what others might say, ANY build can be made pvpable. Nothing (except for human form warshades by design) is really THAT bad. Yes some are better than others, but if you have a little patience and are willing to get your *** kicked in zone starting out you can make a good pvp toon.

From what you listed for level 50's, your dark/rad fender and EM/EA stalker are what I think would be pretty solid. I'd even say an ice/ice blaster built with lots of +recharge time from IOs would be really good. Ice is quick and you can throw out three attacks by the time some toons get off one. I've seen some pretty tough peacebringers out there too.

Out of the non-50's nrg/kin corr or kin/fire scrapper could be made into good pvp toons. Just my two cents
  6. Or pickup tactics, get some acc boosting IOs... then PFF isnt so bad. You should have been around before DR. It was almost impossible to hit someone in PFF. Now I can get a few hits in here and there, which is juuuuust enough to land a kill if the enemy is low HP.

Elude is pretty OP, but with the current state of the rest of the SR set in PvP I think its okay. Super reflexes outside of elude is... meh.
  7. I am sitting in a three hour class and bored out of my mind, so I figured I would throw some opinions and suggestions out there. I would also like to acknowledge the fact that the pvp player base in this game is low, and from a high level perspective of this game I see why it is on the backburner. I also recognize there is a very extensive PvP wishlist stickied in this forum so I will keep things simple and suggest ideas for methods of change implimentation. What do I mean by that? I mean there are a lot of LITTLE things that can be done to START creating a more fun pvp environment.

First of all, I would hope there is a solid team working on power balancing. One person can't be in charge of it all. I do feel like, however, the pvp community needs a representative. I would like to elect the ocho, mod 8, or whatever his other aliases are. As mentioned in another thread, he actually PLAYS with other players in zone. Wow what a good candidate.

At this point I would like to bring up DotA. (www.getdota.com) For those who don't know DotA (Defense of the ancients) is an old Warcraft 3 mod which has lived through the years. It is a 2 teams of 5 person player versus player game. The objectives and fact that the game is a real time strategy is irrelevant. The point of bringing this up is to mention the developer of that game whose alias is "icefrog".

Dota has stood the test of time, and is being recreated by Valve (makers of half-life, team fortress, etc) as their new main game. Icefrog has been hired by them. Why bring him up? There are over 100 selectable characters in dota each with unique powers and there are over 40 items all with different effects. The amount of time icefrog spends on balancing and improving the game is staggering. Why? Because he loves it.

Now Im not asking for any dev to commit his/her time to that much pvp balancing and improving as I know time is needed on other content. However, icefrog's methods for gathering data is what this game is lacking. Not only does he play his own game, he is an active listener in the community and actually implements improvements requested by players if he deems it a good idea and within scope of his next game update. Here is where our pvp representative comes in. If one staff member spent those extra few hours a day actually PLAYING in pvp zones and collecting data from experience and the community.. we could have a MUCH better pvp environment.

Changes don't even have to be extensive. It's all about being creative with what is already in place. We all know it isn't hard to create small pvp only changes. EVERY power can be modified to have pvp only effects without messing with any pve balances. We all know this. If $target == player versus $target == critter right? I understand that is exactly what i13 did. Every power got a different damage calculation for pvp, mezzes had special pvp cases, etc. The problem is the lack of continued support because of this huge communication barrier. The devs im sure dislike people constantly whining about pvp im sure, especially when there are no sound arguments to accompany a complaint. So there is this huge block in communication between developer and pvp player. This is what a pvp focused mod/dev would be for! If it's easier to communicate, it is easier to collect data and feedback, the easier it is to implement changes without angering everyone with a massive overhaul (i13).

There are people in this community who are willing to help improve pvp, let us help you guys (the developers) by staffing someone you guys trust to listen to us. PvP is a LOT of fun and if small wins can keep being made in pvp, maybe more people will come out of their pve comfort zone.

It's late.. i'm tired.. and slightly delusional! Thanks for reading! If.. you bothered lol

  9. I'm pretty sure by this point EVERYONE agrees travel suppression needs reworking.

Movement slowing powers should be *slightly* more effective so they are viable, can stack, and aren't too overpowered. I think DR prevents a lot of things from being overpowered. Does DR effect slows too?

EXACTLY. Im so tired of people saying "this game is build around PvE". PvP was introduced in issue 4. That was YEARS AGO and they've made MANY changes to pvp since then. I know I'm not the only one here who has PvPd in this game for years. Why is everyone so negative when asking for PvP fixes? They are making changes.. they just can't do everything at once. That's why I suggested rewarding reputation. That can't be hard, even from a software engineering perspective.

So long as PvP is reasonably balanced and there is a place for factions to fight...People will gladly walk out and kick each other's ***** for the sake of it.

I think there is an important element lost when PvP is rendered down to just a slightly more complex means of grinding for 'phat lewt'.
I agree with Alkirin here. I still think more frequent and not crappy rewards would bring a good chunk of pve players over to learn the system.

I'm not going to PvP regardless of how good the rewards are, unless the game requires it (in which case I'm probably not going to be playing that game).

I've always kind of gotten the feeling that the people who like to PvP are going to do it regardless of the rewards, simply because they like to do it, and the people who don't like to are going to avoid it, also regardless of how good the rewards are. Sure, adding rewards to PvP is nice for the people who do it, but I'm not sure how successful it will ever be at bringing in the people who don't.
I don't think PvP was doomed to fail because it can be fun and the engine from what I understand wouldn't be that hard to make simple improvements to. I feel like the devs understand that and we all know they have to put off pvp because of the general population.

It shouldn't be too hard to add rewards for reputation could we at least have feedback on that? It's been asked about for years if I remember correctly. You have a point that PvP rewards wouldn't bring anymore new players in if they didn't want to. In pve, IOs can be purchased alternative to random drops through merits from pve content. In pvp, pvp IOs can be purchase alternative to random drops through merits from pve content. Shouldn't we at least have a purchase alternative through PvP content? I hope that makes sense it's been a long day...
  13. I would love to see a dev pop in here and tell us what the design logic was behind this system. What do you think devs? Is the system fair? If you guys are trying to increase the pvp population it's not very motivating going into a zone knowing you probably won't be rewarded for kills and you have to spend months just getting one pvp set by grinding.

Haven't the devs learned that pvp in this game is lacking motivation? Before balance you have to have motivation. Balance changes can only be made when you have data and statistics to go on. Data and statistics aren't created with empty PvP and arena zones. Why should I pvp? What is my motivation to enter a zone and actually TRY to kill another player besides simple satisfaction? (Which only goes so far) Pvp IO's were a step in the right direction but come on at least make them more obtainable by the masses. Let me do something with Rep to get them if anything. Perhaps cash in Rep for PvP IOs? What is reputation even FOR? I like being solo and seeing +5.00 rep for a kill, but for what? I can get 400 rep in the matter of a week to a month depending on play rate, let us exchange this for some IOs. As of now though I'll just stay at rep cap like I have been at for the past three years.
  14. Thanks for the calcuations. The requirements for rewards are simply too high in my opinion. I want end game items. I've been playing this game for over 5 years ALREADY, just give me some good rewards for once without having to pay BILLIONS or flip IOs on the market.
  15. The drop rates do need to be increased a little bit. Someone mentioned farming purples as end game... No. They are developing end game content already how is mindlessly farming fun? "Rare" io's should be hard to get but not so few and far between.
  16. I'm really really really wanting to know how this combo fairs in PvP. I love the combo for concept reasons but we all know that doesn't usually play out in pvp very well. I haven't tried mine out yet it's only lvl 35. Does anyone have any experience with an elec/elec dom in pvp? Enlighten me. What are some good things about it? What works well? What is dissapointing? If you survive long enough, is end sapping viable? Thanks in advance
  17. Ha, this will be amusing and someones gotta add more meat to this festival.

    @Syndace

    Mega Deth (Ice/Fire) Dominator
    Tornado of Souls (Mind/Energy) Dominator
  18. One of my main pvp characters for a long time was mind/nrg. I haven't updated him for GR yet but I'll throw in some tips.

First thing's first, you can slot every ranged attack with an extra damage proc from a knockback IO set which is really really nice especially when combined with other damage procs. The damage starting off is not bad, the procs just make it that much sweeter. Total focus hits like a truck, again even sweeter with damage procs. Powerboost is great for a variety of things: Offensively it's nice to have your hold and confuse having an almost 8 second base duration to counter the resistances of armor and acrobatics. Defensively powerboost can almost max your runspeed. Im not sure of the exact numbers but even after DR you will run and jump faster than most.

For pvp and the base mind control powers I chose mezmerize, levitate, dominate, and confuse. A hold, knockback, confuse, and placate with the proc. That's all you really need from mind control with a good bonus to recharge IMO. I took all three ranged attacks, the snipe, powerboost, and total focus from the assault set. The snipe is nice as an opener or to finish off that runner. The tier 3 ranged attack hits pretty hard and I've noticed I can knockback quite a few squishies with just energy assaults natural knockback.

Since mind/energy can be very powerful it was important for me to see and hit my targets, so I picked leadership for tactics. Assault is nice too, I like the extra %11 my total focus hits for. I went fitness/SS/SJ/leviathan for the other power pools. Levi was nice for hyber and a resistance shield (I prefer taking less damage per hit without the concealment pool phase). With the changes in i19 I will be going SS/SJ/Leadership/Concealment.
  19. Yes. You can't ever go wrong with mind control and energy hits single targets pretty hard. I pvp with a mind/nrg and love it.
  20. I agree with a lot of the people here in saying soloing elec/ IS actually rather easy. As stated static field is such a must have. Static field makes sleep very good. The confuse helps tremedously along with jolting chain. Mobs are very simple to end drain and take down when you open with paralyzing blast and electric fences in domination. Elec/ takes a little finess and patience but is a very good set.
  21. Leadership! Assault and tactics have been growing on me heavily and will make a nice base addition to build up. Stealth is always a good option too. This will be nice for my ice/fire as I took teleport, leadership, stealth, and fitness as my power pools. I can replace fitness with SS or SJ finally!

I feel like we will see a lot more people running around with just sprint and ninja run lol.

    I agree with this.

Out of all the doms I've played and gotten to 50, Ice/fire has been the most fun. Ice control may not be as good as mind control for control in pvp, but I gotta tell you the damage is insane. Besides elec control's hold, ice has one of the most damaging ST holds in pvp. On top of enhancements and procs the hold and immob are amazing to spam for damage along with any ST attack your assault set. Throw in poisonous ray and embrace of fire and you can pump out some good numbers. Jack Frost does some decent extra damage, and Arctic Air is amazing for the confuse effects. Shiver I like to use for the -recharge every now and then. Everything else in the ice control set for pvp is meh.
  23. Jolting Chain has an 8 second cooldown, saps the targets end, and has a 50% chance of -100% recovery. The knockdown is nice and the chaining over minions is cool. If it misses its really no big deal because it recharges fast. Synaptic Overload is a chain confuse and has 8 seconds of -recovery. Awesome! Combined with conductive aura and other sapping powers any single target boss or AV loses endurance very fast... I love it.

What do you guys think would be the better dom for pve/pvp(lol). Elec/elec or elec/psy dom?
  24. There are a lot of combinations, and to be honest the most fun I've had on a character has been my main ice/fire dominator. I RARELY see other ice/fire doms. I think I did once or twice? I had a buddy roll fire/ice dom and that was a fun one too.

One combo I've heard about not working well makes me want to try and make it work: Elec/Storm controller. I don't know how well it would play, but it would look very flashy and cool thats for sure...
