Thank you Positron (and all the Devs) for all the hard work, tough decisions, and great game. This year has had a whole new level of fun for me.

Thing I got to do to for the first time, thanks to City of Heroes:
    1. Fly
    2. Run faster than a speeding train
    3. Laugh at bullets
    4. Knock a space alien out
    5. Fly (I always wanted to fly)
    6. and many, many more...

    Thank you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What he wrote! Did we mention fly?
  2. Die-hard casual gamer thanks and congratulations to all involved.

And as an aside, Happy Birthday to QueenVoodoo!

Thank you, Positron! I am no longer bummed at my deletion of my original characters.

Bummer! Not like the V.I.P. badge which was based on the account. I don't think any of my original ones from last May didn't get deleted at some point last June.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm, you may want to reread the badge description. You get it for logging on, starting this Sunday, May 1st.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe that is a typo. I hope you are right.

  6. My only experience in using SJ in battle was some sky skiffs were part of my Raider ambush. without SJ, my scrapper wouldn't have been able to get in range.
  7. I feel like I'm at the end of "Wayne's World" where they are all getting along talking about what they have learned...

It was only our third event (if memory serves)...so we're still learning.

Rikti invasion was nice...Halloween worked well...and the Winter Lords had some good stuff.

We noted our errors and will rectify them next time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I somehow missed the invasion and Halloween I didn't understand the giant pumpkin guys so by Winter I got with it.

I really liked the presents. Especially the one that prevented debt on death. My blaster sends his regards to you and the other developers!

While using WLs to level up to 20 may have resulted in some gimped characters, at least the individuals who utilized this method didn't spend hours upon hours to get to 20, only to realize they had done themselves a dis-service via their power and slotting selections, and then discover they would have to grind thru the next 4 levels to attempt a respec.

I took my first character up to 12 before re-rolling - I had slotted rest x4 or something like that. People who have extremely gimped characters can always re-roll and lose a little time, armed with more knowledge (especially if they choose to visit the boards to find out what was wrong with their character).

I'm actually wishing I'd created a couple different ATs and leveled quickly - just to get a better sense of other ATs strengths, and power sets. But I was too busy doing my missions and teaming to be distracted by WL hunting.

I don't think the event was a failure in any way. Sure it was harder to find a non-WL team for a while, but that's ok. And if I end up on a team that doesn't know what they are doing, I'll try my best to help, and if I can't I will politely excuse myself. Keep in mind, once you determine you don't like another person's playstyle you never have to team with them again.

    To each their own.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am so glad to read I am not the only one. That free respec saved my 23 blaster from limbo and WL saved him his existing debt. So, that at least was nice of the WLs.

Yes, I took TP, Recall Friend, TP Foe, Hover, Fly, and a few other stupid powers.

He's doing much better now torching Council werewolves (Warwolves, whatever) in Striga now at 27.

Man, they can't make ANYONE happy, can they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm quite happy - that's at least one out of the multitudes.

But if you read enough forums (other forums have just as many people who live to complain), you start to get the impression that some people aren't happy unless they're complaining.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then they too MUST be happy! All is well.

In general would it not be to create an environment where there are more subscribers? The servers were yellow during the WL event and now they are not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem with this theory is that people come back for challenges. The WL was like getting crack injected into your eyeballs. It was just an XP frenzy. There is a game for this, it's called "Progress Quest."

If the WL was here all the time, sure we'd be yellow dotted. And it would last a month then everyone would get bored and quit. Then there would be fewer subscribers than before, because some of those that became XP addicts might otherwise have enjoyed the game for its gameplay which is good and the content which is getting better.

PL events do not help the game. They help more experienced players level up alts and so maybe cause a return of some interest on their parts, but there are better ways of doing this.

I suggested some playtime rewards. If you hit a certain number of hours played, you could receive a bonus of starting a toon at L14 with your travel power. Another level hit, you could start at L22 and have access to SOs. Another level hit and start one at L27.

This way now it is considered a reward, and by doing it in a way that it is rewarding playtime, you have experienced players who are not going to be screwups getting access to a pre-levelled toon. Now you have the beneficial side of an XP event like this without the drawback site, which is saturating the servers with players who don't know how to play.... no doubt players who will soon become frustrated both at the pace of progress because they used to have it easy, and now this "sucks" and players who don't know how to handle difficult villain groups because they never cut their teeth on skulls to learn the basics. Players who would otherwise be the experienced and dependable players who love the game in their 30s, now have quit to find something else.

    That's why it's bad.

Not because a dude with a L50 used it to skip some boring levels that he's seen 10x already, and moved his Kheldian in a position to play with friends in his SG. That is beneficial to him and keeps his interest in the game.

There is some pro and con here, and it would be nice if the devs explained what they were trying to achieve with this, what went right and what went wrong, and how they can do it better in the future.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your conjecture that a month of WL and the yellow dots would go back to green. This is probably true, but that would not be what I wrote. I wrote expect more of the same. What would that be? A few weeks every few months of giant monsters, not an unending WL event.

Why? Because it added interest and people. More people means more money. More money means boss-type people tell devs 'Do it again!' And that could even be to the point of destroying the game. It depends on how smart the bosses at CoH are.

If the base said, "Please no more WLs." that doesn't mean anything because we were still playing doing missions, etc. If they quit because of repeated WLs, then you might see a change.

But if all that happens from WLs is a lot of complaints with higher profits during the time of WLs due to increased volume, we must expect more of the same. We are only in charge as customers when we speak with $. If a million people grumble about your business but keep using it, why would you change practices? If no one buys it, but everyone says how great it is, how do you keep your doors open?

And you assumed they WLed us for the benefit of people quickly leveling to travel powers, which seems reasonable I will admit. Follow the path, then those same people now have a level 15-20 toon that needs DO enhancements and has not nearly enough influence. Only 2 things can happen. Acquire influence from another toon or get killed for being too weak for where you are at.

Perhaps the purpose was to be remove excess influence from the game before I4?
  13. Seems to me we are defending the developers, not the alleged PLed by WL toons.

But here's some food for thought: What is the job of the developers? In general would it not be to create an environment where there are more subscribers? The servers were yellow during the WL event and now they are not.

    Expect more of the same.

As for me, once I got tired of them I found pickup groups that felt the same way but while I was doing it I met some bozos and some good people.

I found it an interesting event and they are welcome to do it as often as they wish, I will do as much of it as appeals to me and live and let live. Debt is not a serious issue. In fact, a search might reveal that I believe debt is good.

An apology would be nice yes.

If youd know what the mid-lev characters are dealing with when they invite tanks who think that the controller should take the aggro, youd understand too.

They will learn yes. But it shoulnt be at mine or other hard working heros' expense.

Are those your actual "mains" you've listed in your signature?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Deleted my lev 50s after my brother took them over.

So technically they are my "mains" but I have 2 50s on Infinity and a 43 on Virute.

    (relevancy?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

If all someone had was a handful in the 20s what do they know about playing the game? Think about it. According to the boards the game changes in the 30s. Since I have only made a few into the mid-upper 20s I have no understanding of Terra Volta, wolf herding and a whole lot of other content above it. And if I don't get on teams with people who know how to play from having been there, the only way to learn involves many trips to the hospital. Not all of us are born uber players. Took me a year to get my ranger to 25 and druid to 21 in EQ and am at 8+ months for my blaster to be 27 and tank 21.

My blaster was schooled at 23 in a pickup group. I was doing what I had always done soloing. The leader could kick me or teach me. He chose teach. I still have lots to learn.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

Noobs arent noobs by the time they get to lev 25. People at 25 know their build and how they want to grow. Thats just common sense.

    1) Although a contact might send you to meet a contact in a new zone, after visiting that person, you can go back and continue the mission set you were doing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this might mean that the higher-level toon who just ran past you is in fact not powerlevelling his worthless buddies or hunting "your" Winter Lords; he may in fact be doing a mission in your zone for completely legitimate reasons. I've had 10th level characters with missions in Atlas Park and Galaxy City, and I've had a 15th with so many missions in King's Row that it made my head explode. Some folks on Triumph may remember the "jesus god could I get some missions that aren't in King's FREAKING Row" broadcasts the day I finally lost it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Great, guess who got your old contact.

Especially painful when they send me to the far corner of KR for the mission, but not buddy enough to call and they are far from the train in Steel. And I was level 12 running past level 15 Tsoo to get to contact. Sorry, I'll stop whining now... And be glad I hit 14 and could fly over trouble and am now 20 and they think I want all my missions to be in, oh, King's Row again!

Bah, capes shouldn't have to be earned. It shouldn't be a 'prove you are uber' type game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't think of earning things as proving you are uber, just proving that you've accomplished something. I like the fact that you can't get a cape until 20, it's indicative of a player who has been around for at least a little while (barring people who PL).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with the spirit of this, but it seems stupid that you cannot "make" a cape for your costume until level 20. It's not like they (unless I missed it) claim you get your costume assigned to you by the "authorities". Perhaps some sort of medal around the neck or even opening up new costume items would be a better carrot for lvl 20.

Besides, some of my characters won't ever need a cape for their costume.
