  1. P_F, you got sucked into a necro post...

Liquid was wanting to shoot the 'mancer.
  2. I thought Lord Recluse was torturing Statesman in CoV somewhere.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
I got a new question. There's a CoV available at Amazon.com, however it doesn't specifically say pre-order - does that mean it's not, i.e. it's just a way to "reserve" CoV, or is it just that amazon doesn't specifically write pre-order but if I order this item it'll be like getting pre-order?
(Heh, I'm not sure if that sentence made sense )

And if it's in fact not pre-order then the next question is, does amazon do pre-order deals in general?

    kthxbye

    [/ QUOTE ]

amazon.com will let you pre-order anything they plan on carrying once they have "part numbers" for them. This is not the City of Villains pre-order deal, however.

Another example of what Amazon.com has for preorder is Revenge of the Sith (widescreen) DVD

The guy is nit-picking about the difference between "Free." and "free with purchase".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not at all. There is no such thing as free with purchase.

It is a bonus item included at no additional charge. I just hate the abuse of the word free. It's not like NCSoft/Cryptic are the only ones doing it. That's why I used the buy X get Y free.

It's been a topic of discussion with my kids who say we get to eat at my job free. No, they pay me (and my coworkers) less money and don't charge us to eat at their facilities. You cannot walk in and eat there at no charge.

I'm sorry that some are taking this as a jab at CoV.

A gift is free. This is not a "gift horse" because the pre-order is a prerequisite. This is a marketing ploy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, for the love of...before you start quoting the dictionary at us, do you know how pre-ordering even works? It's really amazingly, mind-numbingly simple. Experiments on pregnant women have shown that even fetuses understand the idea. You pay $5 or $10 or whatever now and get $5 or $10 or whatever deducted from the cost of the actual game when you buy it later. In the meantime, you get a bonus CD full of stuff, and you're not spending any more money than you would if you bought the game on release day. Hence: free. You dig?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. It is not free. It is at no additional charge. You can be as obnoxious and insulting about it as you like, but that doesn't change its reality. It is a marketing gimick.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Jeez, what a bunch of whiners. They offer you a FREE add-on for pre-ordering and you all complain about what they give you.

It's FREE!!!! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is not free. For something to be free you need to be able to get it for nothing. In order to get these items you must make a purchase. Therefore they are at no additional cost. This is a marketing ploy to encourage pre-order sales. It is ignorance to see it as anything else.

A gift is free. This is not a "gift horse" because the pre-order is a prerequisite. This is a marketing ploy.

Free may be one of the most abused words in retail. Buy X get Y Free! No, get Y at no additional cost. If Y were free, I would get it for nothing.

If you lookup the definition of the word "free" you will see it is without restriction. Since the restriction is a purchase, it is not free.

Would this constitute a PSA? "The more you know."

Thanks for the update, but let me get this straight?

If I'm a women who likes to play female characters and already ordered from EBGames because Gamestop was not accepting my creditcard due to a webpage malfunction I'm getting bleeped?

    How fun...

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's worse than that. What if you make some male and some female? Or even if you want to make all male villains, you have to choose only one helmet to be available.

Well - wouldn't it be possibly the BEST EVER event if the police drone network was sabotaged and we get a day of full-on free-for-all?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you ignore the hundreds of level 50 heroes ready to take us down

Depending on the day, the level 10 heroes would be ready to take the villains down.

Thank you for this guide. I now understand the role of the healers in teams much better.

I am soooooo glad I tend toward scrankers and regen scrappers.

I am going to Comment on Mars' post even though I said I wouldn't be posting anymore. Only because he has been complimentary of my posts.

Looking solely at the method of delivery is, IMO, an incredibly short-sighted way of looking at things. Don't look at how it is delivered, look at the content that is being received. Like I mentioned above, patches do not do the following:

1 - Raise the level cap
2 - Give a new zone (The Hollows)
3 - Give another new zone (Striga)
    4 - Implement PvP

In addition, like I mentioned above, Cryptic/NCSoft is trying a new method of delivering major updates to their customers. For free!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay...sigh..going to try to explain this one more time for the small minded people out there that can't seem to grasp this concept.

While I cannot speak for all, I can say I stop reading anyone's post when they write this kind of arrogant and insulting nonsense...

Now Braveheart... There's some historical innacuracies for you!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

What the HELL are you talking about??!?!?! That was a DOCUMENTARY. Brilliantly done. Verbatim about what happened. I can't believe they found actual video footage of all of that in such great detail.

I just wish the guy documenting all of this would have helped out once in awhile...but I guess if he was a true historian, he didn't want to alter any outcomes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ARRRGHHH...

That film drives me nuts, especially when whoever I'm playing with, when they find out Im Scottish, immediately says, "I liked Braveheart".

    NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo....

I live not 100 yards from Stirling Bridge, where was the bridge in the film... WHERE WAS THE HUGE SWAMP IN THE FILM!!!

    <pant, pant, pant>

    Sorry, but gah!

    Anyway back on topic...

I'm fairly sure North America (And I suppose Canada from the maps they showed at the time) didn't fight off an invasion of Snow-man like creatures recently...

(Or maybe the Canadians did... damn PLed hockey players!)

    Egor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the swamp and bridge were unable to work out their contracts for the film.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That'd be a bit like suggesting there were historical inaccuracies in Washington's Cherry Tree story. Sure he was real, but the story isn't anyway. By the same token Wallace was real, but whether you view him as a bandit or rebel ((or anywhere in-between) is strictly a matter of who's telling the story, as most of it is largely legend.

I had a piece of cherry pie last night. Just though with all the doom references a pie deserved a slot.

The purpose of this board is to have a single, well-organized place where all complaints about nerfs can be collected and ignored/deleted.

    That is all.

I went to Origins this year and had a chance to ask Jack Emmert a few questions about the new ATs and other new things coming in CoH and CoV. But, the most astonishing thing was when I asked about scrappers and this happened:

Heh ... that's good stuff. I wish they had conferences here in Omaha so I could meet Jack ... unfortunately there's not much cool here besides me

Been that way since I moved away last summer, has it?

If you were here, you'd be happy to still be in Omaha!

Developers are gamers too. From what I've heard, many of them do play the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But what kind of players are they? With inside information and such, they would mop up the floor with someone like me.

I realize it is hard to do, but they need to be careful they dont end up causing the casual players to be unable to play in order to stop the power gamers.

I just want to be able to have some fun and arrest some villains. Is that too much to ask? (This would be funny if I could get Jon Lovitz to say this in his Harvey ? voice.)

    [ QUOTE ]
If the standard truely was "if invincible offers no challenge prepare yourself for the nerf bat", that wouldn't be so bad. The problem is that the standard really is "if anyone with your powerset has less challenge than we want you to have, prepare for the nerfbat." If you're not min/maxing the build, learn now, the nerfs are going to be designed so that the min-maxers are brought to "normal" so anyone less optimized will be subnormal.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this my friends, is my problems with "nerfs" in a nut shell. Yeah sure, SOMETIMES something really IS out of wack and needs fixed, but 9 times out of 10, nerfs happen because a few people learn how to beat the system, and the rest of us "normal" gamers are the ones that end up paying for it. I can't DO what tankers on these boards brag about. I can't herd whole maps... i can't solo AV's. (I have a hard team beliving this one personally..) I can't tank 50 +7's, at all, let alone go cook dinner while i do it. But apperently people here brag they can, the dev's belive them, and nerf us ALL as a resualt. Ah well... at least my tank hit 50, and i hae my memerories of being a "super" hero... seeing as how Statesmen's plan for 50's basically involves rerolling... I'll guess i'll give that a shot... Can you at least tell me, Mr. Statesmen, who you aren't going to nerf anytime soon... so i can give them a shot.... You've said Defender are where you like them... but i've heard that before about... tanks... scrappers.... hammi o's.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I agree. I cannot do what the "uber" players do either and when a 'nerf' hits players like us, it is swinging too low.

  21. I liked #1 but it seemed to be missing something I cannot put my finger on. The "rushed" seems correct as well.

I think it was more real than the Blue King series but that is only because of the story. (real as in like real life, where the BK series was like the game) I don't know that I feel real is better than game, but it was different.
