If we were the same person, how would we be able to call each other out during the end of beta event on CoV?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Two computers with an account running on each.

    Next question?

You're under the misguided perception that Cuppa is actually a person.

Well, if she's not, then you are correct, I am.

  4. I like it. Something to do on the last day of the rocket packs.
  5. Mu Guardians are numerous in the Ghost Widow/Wretch arc for villains and they tend to be out and about around the technology store building in Cap Au Diable.

At least that is where my level 17 villain encountered them in CoV.

For heroes, Mu Guardians are in the bloody bay door missions.

Keep in mind that a really good central gathering place similiar to Atlas park hasn't developed in COV. People just don't seem to gather in Fort Darwin like they do under the statue of Atlas.

Thank all that is good and holy...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can't. I've been playing my mastermind exclusively and there is nothing good nor holy about him. Well, his droids are well constructed but the term good doesn't really cover them given the mayhem he puts them towards.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

Either that, or we can just accuse Statesman of lying here and continue shouting about how nobody is playing the game and we should all just quit now to avoid the forced server shutdown booting thing.

I'm good with either actually, (calling Statesman a liar is still in vogue now, is it not? That might be the way to go then).

    [/ QUOTE ]

No one is playing CoV either!!!eleven! I logged into breakout last night and there was only one other villain in it!!! (Was I supposed to do that in all caps?)

Hmmmm. Yeah, it couldn't be that they are in the higher zones or in missions or in CoH or... No, it must be Statesman is a liar.

    I'm with Craban.

    You are correct!

Larva is actually her protector and Miyu is herself a guardian but close enough by my reckoning.

Something about this avatar just resonates with me. It being a mask and at the same time blonging to a Shinma, who also happens to be a protector. It just seemed right for the City of Heroes boards during Holloween.

    The one that got away...

I got my pics of States and Posi, but no Manticore. Perhaps you could hunt me down sometime...
  10. That was so great.

I called out States in local, he turned and booted me to the curb followed by a quick TP to the hospital. I just stood next to Positron getting screen shots until his AoEs took me out (along with everyone else).

I loved events like that in EQ too, where GMs played and attacked. They couldn't do that too often (well, they could but wouldn't have the time).
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I've alluded to this in a couple of places, but I wanted to describe something we'll be doing for Super Reflexes quite soon...

Super Reflexes Auto powers (Agile, Dodge, and Lucky) now add some minor damage resistance. This Damage resistance starts at 0%, but improves as the caster loses HP. The Resistance kicks in at 60% HP (when HP bar first changes color) and markedly increases at 40% and 20% (again, when the bar changes color). We have not yet determined the exact values.

This change is in addition to the recent modification that gave most Defense Primary and Secondary powers resistance to Defense Debuffs (self Defense powers).

My 2 SR scrappers thank you from the bottom of their hearts.

Ok, you're right about Croatoa. I tend to even forget that the zone was added with all the hoo-rah over the rest of I5. Point taken.

I love Croatoa. You (not just you, Tom, but all) must go there if you have not. Even if exemplared. (Bummer for those too low to see Croatoa and Striga.)

Obviously you didn’t get the point.... You must have been to busy kissing Statesman’s [censored] to see it.

The community as a whole brings a sense of logic into the game. Things that we want that make sense. Statesman brings in things that do not make sense to us, the player. Things he says should make the game more fun, which ruin it.

    Therefore:
Statesman = You will have more fun
Reality = It's NOT more fun

Thereby proving that at the VERY least Statesman is wrong about making the game more enjoyable. But maybe not that the community is more logical. Though if you look at 80% of the posts on the boards I don’t think you would find to many people who are against bringing back perma-unstopable, perma-mog, and our old pets back. Not to mention rolling-back the ridiculous changes to my poor regen and my fire tank.

Issue 3 was truly a city of heroes.... Issue 5 is more a city of zeroes....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Obviously, I must post more often to bring my percentage up.

I played my INV tank from late July on to present, and I would *never* want Perma-Unstoppable back--ruined the game.

The game's a lot better, in my opinion, since I5, especially where teams are concerned.

I am also convinced that when CoV hits live, everyone will understand I5 a lot better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I don't think everyone(all) is right.
    1) Some (many?) understand most(all?) of the I5 changes already.
    2) If they do not currently, CoV will only bring enlightenment if they:
    a) get CoV
    and
    b) do PvP
and the enlightenment will only be to those changes related to PvP.

I do not believe that all the I5 changes were for CoV related PvP any more than I believe none of them were primarily because of it. (That is in a world without CoV some I5 changes would not have happened and some would have anyway.)

Hope I didn't mangle that too badly. I am sleepy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was not referring to PvP.

And, I *meant* everyone, since even if folks don't have CoV, if they read the boards, or talk to folks in game, they'll eventually get the knowledge of the other game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

sorry, my bad. But I still don't see how it is possible everyone will get a better understanding of I5. Perhaps it is the "always/never/everyone/noone statements tend to be the false ones" they hammered into my skull in school.

Maybe I overread or underread. I can see almost everyone would get the motive for most of I5. But really, what did Croatoa have to do with CoV? See what I mean? Not looking for a fight.

Try Fighting the Cabal - very different AI there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You talking about those flying things my blaster blew out of the sky over Croatoa?

Usually all the AI looks the same to my blaster:
Target, burning target, down burning target, fading defeated burning target.

They mocked my usual pattern. They were brougt in line with the other AI.

So you dont think for example phase shift was put on a timer as people could stealth through entire series of missons with not thought or or risk.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. Can do it with Invis and Stealth too. And they listed badge hunting first in the list.

I think Phase Shift was changed as it was primarily for PvP with PvE excuses added on. It would have to require much more work for a PvP only change and I would not decry them that, but trying to paint the Phase Shift hack as a PvE issue is beyond my ability to believe. If there were no PvP I do not believe Phase Shift would have been changed as it was.

LOL way to completely miss the point gang.

I was making a bit of commentary on the many uses of the term "Conspiracy Theorists" I've seen in this thread and where that all started.

It all happened to start with the I4 regen nerfs and the devs claims of how overpowered Regen was. Their examples included Regen doing such amazing things as solo'ing large groups of +8 bosses. They even went as far as to provide demo "proof" of this feat, a post in which Statesman made a snide comment about us "conspiracy theorists". Well, low and behold, their test enviroment was completely borked.

Apologies were made and thanks given, of course it did nothing to change the course of the nerfs, but I guess that could be viewed as a seperate issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I could have sworn they changed the degree of the nerfage, but even if they didn't playing a Regen Scrapper is "easy" mode in CoH when all other things are equal (difficulty slider, soloing or same team, etc) for me and many others. Now part of that may be our play style.

Now, I will join the crowd who chants "But my regen scrapper is fun, don't mess with it." But that doesn't change that I don't have to work as hard in missions with my 2 regen scrappers as I do even with my Invulnerable and Super Reflex scrappers.

I sympathize with the devs needing to make sure Regen isn't overly unfair in PvP, but I at the same time do not care about PvP and do not want it to ruin my fun in PvE.

None of this = conspiracy by the devs to force me to PvP or that all of these changes are due to PvP. The flip side is, though they are not due to PvP, PvP makes some of them necessary or necessary to address in some form or fashion.

Did I mention I hate the change to Phase Shift?
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
You know what you guys are right. This place would be much better off without all the conspiracy theorists around. I mean, if the devs say that Regen scrappers can plow through a dozen +8 bosses it must be true, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hyperbole.

What you imply, and what I take issue with, is that the Devs having borked that test means that they're also wrong about Defiance, Phase Shift, and retroactively, Purple Patch.

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Take each instance as you see them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I loathe, despise, detest the Phase Shift hack and hope they alter it to be one way in PvP and another in PvE. But that is besides your point...

I saw a funny skit on a Seattle TV show (or was it Comedy Central?) about 10 1/2 or 11 1/2 years ago "Who Killed J.F.K. Today?" Everyone except Oswald.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
To further comment, with only a handful of exceptions, every player that I know has at least one L50. But then, the community and friends I've built up over the past year+ of playing kind of weeds out most all of the players who are just starting, or don't yet have a L50.

What I'm saying is that there are likely other layers of data that substantially alter the interpretation of the data, depending on which ones you take into the account. Only Cryptic and NCSoft have those numbers.

On a tangential note, numbers have a pesky way of playing perceptual tricks. It's not the numbers themselves; it's the temptation to interpret numbers as hard-and-fast. It's easy to forget that numbers are simply abstract representations with which we communicate ideas and relationships. As important as they are, the numbers themselves cannot be any more important than what the numbers mean.

8% of the player base has a level 50
A smaller proportion has multiple 50's

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ya know.... I remember when this number came out. I didn't buy it then, and I still don't buy it.

It only took me 4 months to get Bill to 50. Without powerleveling. (Mind you for the most of that four months I was on an extended vacation so I played 12 hours a day)

Celmor got to 50 in like 6 months. Maybe less.. can't remember when I-3 came out. Again, no powerleveling beyond less than a level. (Had to find out what was so wonderful about wolf-herding. Bored me to tears.)

If I can get 2 50s in under a year, working now 40 hrs a week, with a son and wife, taking care of dogs, only getting long game time runs when everyone's crashed or I take a day off....

I just find it impossible to believe that only 8% of the playerbase has a 50.

    Just doesn't jive with logic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Edit: I see Flaming's and your subsequent comment, but I want to leave this response here to merely echo the other messages reminding people that we are not necessarily representative of the player base.

Your logic omits the most important factor in all statistical analysis. Your selected subset does not necessarily bear out to the entire world.

That is the problem so many of us make when posting. "If I and none of my friends..." does not mean anything unless my friends are the entire base.

I have a level 33, 24, 23... I have no 50s. I like to make new alts. I do not assume everyone is like me.

I do not like PvP. I do not assume everyone is like me.

I hate the Phase Shift change (perhaps due to I do not PvP?). I cannot assume everyone else feels the same way.

I will stop with examples now.

The devs here do, to their credit, communicate with the players. Too often to their own detriment.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
If, as mentioned above, the cutoff for the badge is something like 20% of the monster's hit points, wouldn't it be possible for 5 teams of 8 to each do 20% of the damage and for 40 people to get the badge at once?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Possible, yes. But very difficult to pull off each team getting exactly 20%.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Let me clarify this. I was invited to a team twice. I declined the invites because I don't believe I should be forced to team just to get a badge. If someone makes a contribution then they should get a badge regardless of whether they are teamed or not. I watched a level 30 Scrapper get up close and personal with Jack once, take damage, inflict damage, and not get a badge out of it. He took the risks and made a contribution to the effort, but didn't get a badge. I have seen people die trying to beat him. No badge, but they get the debt.

I didn't get this off the Internet, I saw it happen. I also watched someone who located Sally working to get a team together only to have someone swoop in and hit her before they could get the team together, which kept them from getting her. I can understand the 'fly-by and run to get the badge' reasoning, but I can't agree with the 'you have to be teamed if you want a badge' reasoning.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whether a person agrees with something or not is irrelevant when it is true. Imagine I say I disagree with needing a parachute to leave an airborne aircraft in order to live?

There are several badges you may never, ever earn soloed based on your AT. If you want the badge, pay the price and team for the event. Badges are optional. I do not like teaming in general but when someone said the ghost ship was cruising through, my non-blaster joined a team and didn't get very many ghosts but got the badge with the team. When I was on with my blaster, I could have soloed the badge but did what I thought was fair and teamed with those who cannot wipe out dozens of them in a few minutes (controllers, tankers, defenders).

Only you can decide how badly you want these badges, but the game is setup that teaming is the best way and in some cases about the only realistic way.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

Since the badge system doesn't award everyone who fights with a badge, only the person or team that does the most damage, which makes fighting Jack and others an every man for himself deal, unlike Luska and the Paladin construction,

    [/ QUOTE ]

Where do people get this stuff?

    [/ QUOTE ]

On the internet. And you know if it is there, it is true!
