So, I'd say on that point, it is just flat out wrong to say there is no Market PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I agree.

Here are some forms market PvP can take:
    1. Buyer vs Buyer - I need to outbid you
    2. Seller vs Seller - I need to underlist you
    3. Seller vs Buyer - I need to get you to pay me the most I can
    4. Buyer vs Seller - I need to get you to take the least amount I want to give you
    5. Varied forms of playing with the different groups (like painting the tape though I no longer recall what that means) to trick them

I enjoy the dynamics of 1-4 as they intertwine.

The super rich will continue to mock the poor for their lack of vision and inability to manipulate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I mock them for their laziness and desire for the best rewards without putting in the effort to earn them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
As well they should be. Reward without effort seems to be a common desire in games, for some reason. I'm not sure where the sense of entitlement comes from.

But I equally reject the stance that all things can be answered by more money, and that anyone not pursuing that goal is a fool who deserves to be gouged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the sense of entitlement comes from single player game cheat codes.

    how very Zen.
I prefer the classics though: if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I prefer this one....
"If a man says something in a forest, and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course he is. She will just know and he should too.

learn to make money on the market directly. It's amazingly easy in this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know you are right on this.Or I assume you are because everyone seems to agree with that statement. But if there one part of this game I very much dislike it is the market.
I think some enterprising ebil marketer should start some sort of investment service.I give them a few 100 million, they double it and keep a percentage.Just so I don't have to go near the market.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is those guys don't need your money to make money because they already have billions so they aren't motivated to do it. I know some had done it in the distant past but any mention of it now tends to get a "Why would I want to do that?" response.

I've gotten 3 on sub-50s (soloing on heroic at level 48).

Ad-Astra (I think it was in your post); I hate to say this but to get a fully fuctional blueside base is closer to 4-6 mill. I know because I am in the middle of building my blue side base. This is taking into account the plot size and rooms for everything, placing all telliporters and becons, the power and control. Unless someone else has a better way for power I am having to save for the next step up in a generator and after I craft the darn thing it will cost me 1 mill prestege. Having a small SG this can be hard to get your hands on.

I have been paying atttention to this thread though and I have to agree with SwellGuy, I can see the devs trying to control the "ebil marketeers" as he defined and my quesiton would be how many of those "ebil marketeers" would build a base just for themselves to hoard there things....it would seem that they are more interested in getting money at the market than taking time to learn how to putiing together a functional storage base.

    Your thoughts?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think some of us have different meanings for fully functional bases too.

I have one on Triumph I made a few months ago I consider fully functional.

I have my Pillar of Flame and Ice, 2 teleporters, 1 med bay, 2 Salvage bins, 3 or 4 enhancement bins, 3rd level empowerment station, crafting table and the personal salavage vault.

I consider it fully funtional but I know there was no way I had 4 million prestige to build it. It is padded with my alts for the 300k base plus they have earned just slightly over 1M combined.

I even have a villain base which has only earned 62k and only has 9 members (so only 180k from that) and it has 5 enhancement tables, 1 salvage bin, 3rd level empowerment station, 1 inspiration bin, the storage vault and crafting table.

So don't underestimate how little a motivated marketeer would need and they might be willing to do the horrible conversion especially the ones I've seen post who have many billions of inf.

Edit: Oh the reason my little villain has so many bins is Field Crafter. I've been storing all the IOs for the possibility I might play the alts on that server someday. I'd hate to delete them.

In summary, Deflation means people run around with better Enhancements, and spend less time getting them. That means faster leveling, dogs and cats sleeping together, and the end of civilization as we know it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In the scope of recent intentional dev increases in leveling speed, I'm not sure we could even perceive the effect of that power shift in a statistical analysis of leveling speed across the playerbase. That doesn't even include (other) potential unintentional increases.

Edit: It's also worth noting that the whole "my enhancements are expiring" was one of the more consistently mentioned dislikes of the legacy enhancement system. I wouldn't be too sure in assuming that the devs didn't swamp it intentionally.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's a good point.

The benefits from IOs vs SOs do seem to say "Hey, you can use SOs if you want but that's just crazy."

I still recall thinking IOs were overpowered when introduced and I expected them to get nerfed across the board but it hasn't happened. They have tweaked some here and there but the basic benefits are still there.

When the game feels like a job, and a boring job at that, it's grind to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. And this game is a grind for me up until at least around level 25 on any given character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally I agree with this which is why I try to focus on enjoying the story arcs until then and distract myself from working my way to 25.
  9. As doms are now, as long as you think like a controller they won't be any fun for you.

I had to break that mindset to "get" doms and really enjoy them.

There are some excellent guides on dominators so go read a few and then try out what works for you but they will all tell you the same thing: doms are not controllers. (Though I do know someone who plays controllers like doms so it was an easy move for him.)
  10. I miss Living... Oh wait, he's back!!!

Ok, I miss other long absent posters like MMZ_Torak.
  11. That temp phase power you can buy the recipe for is ideal for this mission.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
    Thanks for the olive branch.

Some of the base Building community has the impression that there are are some long-requested items that we can't have in bases because there would be an adverse impact on The Market - mostly around increased storage and storage items for recipes. The speculation (I've never actually seen a red name post with this answer) is that to give bases that would encourage hoarding rather than moving items on the market.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, a lot depends on what a marketeer is. If it is the ones we call the "ebil marketeers" (price manipulators, flippers, etc.) then:

Hoarding leads to shortages which benefits the "ebil marketeer" types.

Dev actions to help the market are to the detriment of that group of players. The more quickly stuff flows through the market the less the flippers and company can do to it.

So, I'd suggest if you see a dev say something is for the market to bear in mind it is likely against the "ebil marketeers".

Now if by marketeers you just mean pro-market people, well yes I would like to be able to buy and sell stuff there so I can move what I don't need and buy what I do from other players and not look at a vast wasteland and not be able to buy things because people are hoarding them in their bases.

But you can bet that group of "ebil marketeers" would hoard far more than anyone else if we could put more in our bases.

i really would like a serious explanation: why the perma 46 if the devs dont like farms? why castle in PI? why PI aint a lvl 40+ restricted area? why atlas is not a minus lvl 20 forbidden one?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know the answer to the XP off and the perma 46. The XP off option really is for the ability to not skip content, and i know people who like to do this. They had a plan once they figured out people were making lvl 46 perma bridges but i think there is some issues putting it into place. If I remember correct the fix to the perma bridge was going to be that if your XP was off then anyone you sk'd would also not recieve XP. Again not sure why it was never enacted.

The other questions I can't answer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would guess they didn't enact no exp for the SK is because it is not inconceivable that someone might turn it off and SK a friend to get them caught up. A manual leveling pact of sorts. So to fix a perma 46 scenario they would need special coding beyond just an exp block for an SK to.
  14. If they do not have an anti-virus and have an internet connection they are already vulnerable to a virus. The game isn't going to give them one.

    Playstyles

    Awesome latest list.

    I declare myself a soloer/fighter/mechanics explorer/wanderer/daredevil.
  17. I think that's the thing. People who play as you and I apparently do just have fun playing and the gains are (usually) a byproduct of that playing so we avoid any sense of grinding.

But I also don't want to assume what others do that I would find grindy they also find grindy. They might see it differently and be having fun. I'd gag running the same map over and over and over like they did/do (Dreck, Wolves, Family farm) but they must get some enjoyment out of it otherwise I cannot imagine why they keep doing it.
  18. I know people have run it off of flashdrives.
  19. What if it is the same person???
  20. I only think something is a grind if I don't enjoy doing it.

I've not found playing the game to be grinding except when I used to hunt certain badges. Since I don't do that any more, I don't experience any grind but since that is based on my feelings of what I am doing it is pretty clear others might do the exact same thing as me and find it a grind and what I would consider a grind another player would not.
  21. Some people get lag from MM pets so they don't want to invite MMs.

Some people have dealt with bad MMs who only buff their own pets or buff their pets first so they distrust all MMs.

There isn't much you can do for the first group to be on a team with MMs and you can only show the second group that not everyone plays MMs the same.

Sell it and buy a Karma KB protection IO for Hover or Combat Jumping. You probably won't want the Fighting pool, and you can't get a patron armor until level 41 so that thing will be sitting around a long time if you keep it. If you aren't taking a defense power either, sell it and use the inf for other stuff, then buy a new one at 41 (or whenever you get your patron armor)... you'll be able to afford one no problem by then.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This or the Blessing of the Zephyr KB prot one.

    Come Home!

    I wondered who it was...

The best part of the Luck Charmers for me was selling all that other common arcane salvage I was getting while holding the luck charms for the big dump.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Hi guys, i'm new to all this. Quick question:

When selling crafted IO's is it often better to list them slightly below the value of the last 5 sold?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It depends.

At certain times of the day/week they can be grossly overselling and at others a badger may have dumped stock and driven the price too low.

Another factor you need to consider is how quickly do you want to sell to clear your slot.

And the final factor is how much is your bare minimum to profit that satisfies you.

You really need to study it and see. The best thing to do would be to make a few of the most popular ones: accuracy, damage, endurance modification, endurance reduction, and recharge reduction and list them at a couple different price points to get a feel for them over the course of a week.

More people tend to play on the weekends and they tend to play more and therefore level more so sales can be more brisk and higher on the weekends than during the week in general but if supplies run low and people are in a hurry they can pay the highest at the deadest times.
  25. I don't. I had to get up to walk over to the 13" TV to see what was on the other 2 channels.
