It really depends on what you will be fighting, with whom you will be fighting, and what powers you have but mathematically a normal player should be more than fine with 1 ACC.

But if you like to fight +4 bosses more is better.

Forget everything you know from traditional MMOs like WoW and EQ.

There is no gear (though we do have inventions which is similar). There are no skills to achieve though some badges can simulate that in a way.

Don't try to play CoH as WoW with super heroes but as a completely different kind of MMO and you will do fine.

I absolutely disagree with this. If two people are doing something, and one person is more effective at it, the person who's more effective should get more reward. Period. Otherwise, the less effective person is incented to put themselves in situations where overall it's actually more beneficial to everyone for them to back away and let the more effective person do everything.

Which, of course, is the situation we find ourselves in today.

Carrying this principle to its logical conclusion is what causes leeching. If the devs hadn't put arbitrary XP gain limits on level differential, your principle says that a theoretical team with 50 members, of each level from 1 to 50 inclusive, fighting one AV, would get increasing rewards as you go down the chain from the 50 to the 1. No one below 42 or so is even going to hit that AV, so if they're damage ATs, the situation is patently ridiculous.

But even for buffers it's all wrong; the level 1 certainly isn't buffing the 50s "better" than a 48 would, and yet your principle says they should get higher rewards from the defeat. That's nonsensical to me. At best, taking into account Arcanaville's position, all the buffers from 42 on down should be equivalent and should get something, since they can still buff even if they can't attack. But I argue that the 42s etc just have no business being on the team to begin with, and the fact that they can affect the outcome because buffs don't diminish is a design flaw that should be corrected and not an inherent to be balanced against.

I really have to wonder what other MMOs do.

Most have no means to sidekick but IIRC when I played EQ all team members got equal exp splits and there was ninja looting the corpses.

I need the market because I want inventions. Without a market, inventions would be hopeless.

But it is the inventions and the benefits they bring me that really engaged me in the game 2 years ago.

Before that I had very little influence, only 1 level 50, only 2 accounts, and only 111 characters rolled up. Now I have over 1 billion inf on each side made primarily by selling my drops and selling crafted IOs across my 256 characters across my 3 accounts with my current 8 level 50s (and 2 in the 45+ chasing in on it).

Now since I suspect what you may be asking is actually more along the lines of whether we would be here without playing the market, then I am not one of the ebil marketeers in that way so I would be here since I don't play it, I use it. But I do know it wouldn't be very useable if it weren't for all elements using it including the market gamers.

Not necessarily. In other MMOs you are often in great need of other players to do things so they may simply be going by what they expect. You probably need to explain to them that this is a very different breed of MMO.

A competent pair can even take down some GMs though of course it gets easier with more people. And lots of players solo AVs.

There's this town nearby that has a farmers market at the end of summer in the town square. One year I was working at a supermarket during the night shift, I was getting off at 7 am. I noticed one guy kept coming in around 5-6 am each morning buying lots of vegetable in bulk during the event. Sure enough I found the guy reselling the "fresh" produce from the supermarket as being grown on his farm and at almost twice the price. I called a local news station and one of their reporter's checked and then confronted him on TV. Funny as hell watching him get caught and we found out he didn't even own a farm. ROFL!

Those questions pretty much existed long before MA. Along with 'where do I find the lost?', 'where do I register a villain group?', 'How do I get to Boomtown?', etc. The answers aren't presented in-game by a NPC, for the most part. You find out from the forums, player guides or broadcast.
