Quote:Sad but true.Ninja Run or Beast Run with Hurdle work well enough, as others have mentioned. But what no one else has yet mentioned is that on many characters, they just look downright retarded.
I have one Huge frame Brute build that I just couldn't fit in a travel power for. Looks so stupid Ninja Running around. Hmm maybe I should have another go in Mids'. -

My experience with Revive was that most times I would get pwnt immediately after using it before I could do much of anything. As someone else said, MoGing immediately after might work, but I'd hate to have to either wait for it to recharge or waste it just to rez. I had Revive for a while but was happy to drop it when I recpecced.
One way I guess you could use it more reliably would be to pull a hard mob you're fighting away from their spawn point before fighting them. Then you could rez in safety when they return. Then again, e-mailing yourself a few awakens gives you most of the same benefit while saving a power pick. -
Quote:This...What bothers me about KB, and on energy blast specifically is that it's unreliable. Any AoE power with a non-total chance to KB will invariably scatter the spawn.
Quote:Knockback, particularly in Energy Blast, is disruptive because it's uncontrollable. If every power did knockback every time like, say, Gale, then I can anticipate it and direct it. But I can't. In fact, if I shoot an Explosive Blast into a crowd of 10 people, I'm virtually guaranteed that some won't get knocked back. It doesn't matter how well I use knockback, it will always scatter enemies when it's AoE, simply because it will affect some, but not others. -
I can't speak for others, but I'm able to exit Equalizer glue patches by toggling on a Raptor Pack and flying away. That's exactly what I usually do when hit by a glue patch or the ridiculous -tohit of wtfpwnsauce. I Raptor Pack my way to the entrance and exit the mission, then go make a sandwich or something. It's easy enough to get extra time in mayhem missions that the delay is not an issue.
It's not just the magnitude of the debuffs or their durations that makes them so over the top, it's the combination of the two. If the magnitudes were low enough that I felt I could put up a meaningful fight through them, I would do that. If the durations were short enough that I could wait them out, I would do that. Neither is true. I'm either not hitting anything due to -tohit, or I get to use each of my powers once, then stand around getting pummeled.
The durations are long enough that even if I fought through them, I'd be carrying them into the next fight and possibly risk getting even more stacked on me. So to me the only thing to do is wait them out before moving on. At their durations, that's basically a forced AFK. Any power that has that effect is poorly designed IMO.
I'll fight PPD in any level range other than 20-30 all day long. I think it says something about the design of the faction when a level 50 PPD is easier than a level 20 one. -
Tornado may qualify. If I'm understanding the CoD entry for it correctly, there are no aspects of the power that require a tohit check. It doesn't take straight accuracy enhancements, but most of the sets it takes include accuracy, and it even takes Accurate Defense Debuff sets.

Quote:Get out of my head.
- Reduce AS animation time to .83 or less; up recharge to 60 seconds; no interrupt; must be used in hide
- Give Stalkers same HP cap as Scrapper. (But not base modifier)
- Return all removed AoEs to their native sets as a tenth elective choice available at level 18. Like how Scrappers were the first AT to get a defined inherent, this would be the start of the long abandoned 'tenth power per set.'
- Reduce AS animation time to .83 or less; up recharge to 60 seconds; no interrupt; must be used in hide

Not so slim that it doesn't happen. DA is my favorite armor set, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that this can and does happen, because it's happened to me more than once. To make matters worse, there will probably not be many enemies in range to fuel the self-rez afterwards either.
-
I like WM/DA. You get a damage aura to add to WM's decent AoE, and a stun aura to stack with WM's stuns to keep bosses drunk-walking.
-
The sword attacks in Fire Melee don't cause "redraw" per se. That is to say, there is no extra delay caused by using them. If you want to avoid them for aesthetic reasons that's one thing, but from a performance standpoint there's no reason not to use them.

I'm guessing Regeneration for Brutes will get a taunt added to Integration. I wonder what other changes, if any, will be made during the port. I have a Fire/Regen Scrapper that just hit 50 I will probably re-roll as a Brute, but I'll have to wait for details to make that decision for sure. I guess I'll be shelving that character for a few months.
*sigh*...75 crafts away from Field Crafter on that toon too. -
I'm not a big fan of the Brute changes for a number of reasons, but I find that I still prefer Brutes to Scrappers. Not having to chase runners is almost reason enough.

So you're saying now is the time to corner the market on common salvage?

Quote:I agree, to a point. The example in my first post was meant to be just that, an example of one possible reason a person might have for wanting to move to the VIP server. It was meant to imply that there are other valid reasons, but I guess I should have been more explicit.Free players in other games behaving a certain way does not automatically mean they will behave that way in THIS game.
None of us know anyone else's experiences or reasons for making their decisions unless they clearly state them for us. To automatically attribute the worst possible motivation to someone absent that knowledge reflects poorly on the commenter.
They don't have to all behave badly to significantly impact the experience of those around them. In fact only a small minority is required. I have no doubt there will be plenty of cool, fun new people showing up after CoH:F is released. Will there be enough of those behaving badly to have a significant negative influence on the overall community? We shall see. I'm cautiously optimistic for now. I am reassured by the presence of the VIP server though, which is no doubt the sole reason for its creation. -

My post wasn't directed at you, or anyone in particular. I was just commenting on a trend I've observed.
Quote:But I think it's highly amusing that you're engaging in the same behavior right now that you are claiming to dislike.
The fact that the people hurling those insults are also trying to make themselves out as standing on the moral high ground seems ridiculous to me. If you want to call me a hypocrite for pointing that out, you're welcome to do so. I'm happy to let what I've said stand on its own and let people judge for themselves. -
I think there are perfectly valid reasons for wanting to avoid F2P players. For someone whose experience in another F2P game has led them to conclude that F2Pers are mostly potty-mouthed children whose fun consists mainly of spouting racist comments, I'd have to raise an eyebrow if they didn't want to avoid such players.
I'm amused by the people putting down those who want to move to the VIP server. A lot of them seem to be looking down their noses at them while patting themselves on the back for being so enlightened as to willingly rub shoulders with the common man, while using the word "snobs" to describe those moving to the VIP server. To me this smacks of the most delicious irony.
As for me I'll probably be mostly staying on my main server unless the asshattery gets out of control. I'll probably roll some new toons on the VIP server and see what kind of community develops there, but I expect to spend most of my time on my current server. -
On my Fortunata build I built for softcapped Ranged/Melee defense, but a bit lower on AoE defense. I played around with softcapping AoE defense but it wasn't worth the tradeoffs I'd have had to make IMO. I also built for perma Mind Link, though mostly as a team buff and buffer against defense debuffs.
You could argue that softcapping plus perma Mind Link is overkill, but I like to have the team buff up full time, and any time I'm facing heavy AoE I know I can softcap to AoE by firing Mink Link.
IMO AoE defense is less important on a Fortunata because I'm fighting from range and am seldom the target of a lot of focused fire. Not like a Night Widow who is constantly in the middle of things. -
Quote:You'll probably get some resistance on this one. For one thing it's handy to suppress enemy-affecting toggles while stealthing without having to re-toggle those powers.Invisibility: Vastly Reduce Endurance Cost, remove 'Only Effect Self' penalty, reduce recharge
Then there's Brutes. Because of the way Fury is implemented, it notifies nearby mobs to the Brute's presence. Entering OAS is the only way to avoid that. -
This still seems a little unclear to me. If the purchase of GR doesn't unlock incarnates, then does that mean everyone will get access to incarnates once CoH:F goes live? If not will incarnates be an unlock available separate from GR? If so then when someone purchases access to incarnates, will they still lose it when dropping to Premium?

Quote:I agree somewhat, and I do shoot for a certain amount of energy defense, but if something has to be sacrificed to achieve my other build goals that's one thing I'm willing to compromise on. Rikti are probably not the best example since all their ranged blasts have a smashing component, and therefore can be protected against with smashing defense. There are a lot of pure energy attacks though, especially in end game content full of Praetorian Clockwork.I'm actually of the opinion that the E/N defense is more important than S/L for Dark Armor since energy resistance is such a hole. Otherwise things like Rikti tend to shred my characters. If I can't get 45% defense, I aim for 32.5% so that a small purple will be all I need to hit the cap from there.
I work around it. As a Stalker being able to take a lot of focused fire is not as big a requirement as on other melee ATs. It's nice to be able to open with AoEs and not worry about return fire, but to me having to allow a Brute or Tank to open up first if I'm facing enemies with a lot of pure energy damage is a worthwhile tradeoff for getting the other things I want into my build.
That's a very personal value judgement though. Regardless of which direction you go, I think you'll really like that toon.
