Since you do not suffer this malady, this probably makes no sense to you. But it is a good market for a game like City of to look for customers in. ince they have one of the best character design systems on the market, marketing to people that like to alt, wel, it might make a little sense.
    Hi. I'm SuperFerret.

And Professor Quick. And Storm Krow. And The Mad Zookeeper, Doctor Orca, Major Villainy, Triceratops Man, Neural Interceptor, and Fafnir the Dragon.

And that's just on the Guardian server, my primary server. And there are more each and every day.

I only plan to fully IO out (with sets, though no purples) just SuperFerret and Mad Zookeeper (my main hero and villain). The others will be set up with either SO's or generic IO's. This, however, is my short term plan. As I get more 50's, of which I currently have none, I'll probably be IOing the rest out, and so on and so forth (since I'll continually make more characters).

After playing the game on and off for about 6 years, I've only ever had one 50, a version of SuperFerret, which was deleted and remade twice before the one I currently have now, due to boredom with being 50, AND having gotten him to 50 during the AE PLing binge. Most (and by most, I mean, all listed about aside from Neural, my newest) have been deleted and rerolled multiple times due to various reasons.

I'm not just an Altaholic, I'm the Altoholic. And that's Altitis (which of course means "inflammation of the alternative character") hasn't stopped me from making attempts at playing the market nor has it prevented me from using IO sets (in fact, it's helped me get some of the more common recipes that I need due to random drops). The only reason I've not yet considered purples is that I see them as wholly unnecessary, since I can achieve the same results with more common (and therefore less common and easier to come by) recipes.

Anyway, I've always hated these types of posts, where it's just me beating you over the head with a wall of text.

    So, for the tl;dr crowd:

I'm an extreme altaholic and I still utilize the market without being deterred by the higher end stuff, which I admit to being a bit out of my grasp (but that's comparable to a level one seeing a level 50 standing around under Atlas, I'm not there yet, but it's just a matter of time).

Ultra rare "stuff" keeps people playing because they have things to continually strive for. There's always that next IO or next badge that they want, and that keeps them playing longer.

Let me ask you this, after you pimp out your character with IO's what then? What will you do then?

Actually, based on the prior buying prices, the person who bought that IO must've wanted it NOW, so they paid over the last sale price. It's not uncommon to do. I've done it once or twice out of impatience.

  6. This really irritates me. I use a word (in this case, "skill") because I lacked a better term for what I'm trying to say, and it gets targeted like a weak joint. It also annoys me that I can't explain what I meant or defend myself against these arguments. (This irritation and annoyance is directed inwards, not to those who responded, and I'm only stating this in an attempt to explain why my following arguments and statements may not be the best.)

The moment someone decides to set themselves a goal such as soloing AVs/GMs, soloing Pylons or the RWZ Challenge they are no longer a casual player.
I agree with what you say, and I did not intend to imply that SwellGuy implied that casual = no skill.

Purples and PvP IOs are exceptional rewards, and to get a lot of them, you have to do an exceptional amount of something. If you think you are entitled to them, either you're not a casual player, or you've got an unreasonable sense of entitlement. MHO.
What I'm talking about isn't regarding any sense of entitlement. A casual player that plays this (or any game) for fun still has the chance to get one of these drops and potentially use it.

And the Casual vs Hardcore is exactly why I wrote what I wrote. When somone looks seriously at getting the ultra rare loot they aren't casual any more no matter how they want to twist the meaning of the word.
I understand what you're saying, but the statements that I responded to seemed to state that those casual players who have the luck to get these random drops don't deserve it and should give them up.

Also, deciding to seek out IO recipes and improve your character doesn't remove your casual attitude, at least in my eyes.

You would become a modern version of various mere mortals that have done astounding things with just skill, muscle and limitless will. Mythology is full of them.
  9. I'd say it's Science. Tech brings to mind the idea that the poison (while still chemical and scientifically created) is mixed and deployed via a machine.

But as people have said, anything can be anything. I've got a Demons/Traps MM that's Tech origin, who hunted down his demonic minions and fitted them with radio collars that allow him to control him. (He also hates all demons, his own included, which fits my typical Mastermind strategy of "I've got disposable tanks! Yay!")

I disagree with the "no right" part, and the "they stop being a casual player" part.

Casual vs. Hardcore is an attitude, not a measure of how skillful the player is in game.

    Heh.

I wouldn't mind FF getting a new costume, or even the suggestion of changing his mission to someone else, but I know what I DO want: the Frostfire map in AE.
  13. But how close were you to him. He's bots, so if he's attacking, it's at range, so you shouldn't be close together.
  14. Never thought they were that much of a problem. They're just an enemy that garners a bit more priority (though less than certain enemies, like Sappers), and we do get XP for that.
  15. I know that I was just recently informed that in PvE, Taunt is autohit, so Accuracy slotting is pointless.
  16. "Patrol" and "that guy" seem to work fine with me.

Also, (and I know this isn't the case in the majority, and that kinda saddens me) I play this game because I'm a fan of superheroes, not because I like MMOs.
  17. "Mob" means "group", and is often used in conjuction with "angry". Provided that my role in this game is to hit them in the face (thus angering them), calling a group of enemies a "mob" makes sense.

Also, the less I'm smacked in the face with gamer terms and technical crap, the happier I am with this game.
  18. Mind if I ask where in relation to the mob of enemies you and the MM were respectively? What type of MM was it aside from /FF?

You don't just run missions by walking in the door and snapping your fingers and teleporting the bad guys into a jail. Even with your Omega slot and huge glowing yellow hair that's 47 feet long... Malta Sappers will ruin your day. You know, those average humans? Who just beat your demigod ***?

    Yeah.

    Them.

    They're still going to suck.

So I take it all with a grain of salt that you'll suddenly be godlike.

Something I hope is that they make the animations on some of the powers interesting and able to fit with characters. The Judgement AoE? Is that going to be a straight energy blast or will you be able to, say, on your dual blades scrapper cut the air so hard you make a shockwave?
    Like a claws scrapper can?
  20. Yeah, but I've used it as a "Keep those guys with their pointy hurty things far away for my sake" in the past, so it's really hard to say who's in the wrong here. If the Mastermind was getting into the thick of things or otherwise being stupid with it, then it's their fault and you can kick them if you want with good reason. If it was just an "Oh no, knockback" type of thing, then the brute should just move forward and stay outside the force bubble.
  21. That depends on how far the enemy moved and whether or not the Mastermind was intentionally doing it to annoy you.

Aside to your aside: I prefer English to gamespeak, and "mob" as a singular enemy grates my nerves a bit.
  23. Farming isn't necessary to earn money. Run high level content to get merits, run AE mission arcs to get tickets, make friends in game (believe it or not, many people have craploads of cash that they wouldn't mind giving to a friend to help them out), enter costume contests, play the market, etc.

And then on top of everything else, remember that you don't need those hyper-expensive enchancements, and that you can get the same or similar results by using less expensive ones.
