If a person sees an arc is rated at 5 stars, they expect it to not only be good, but be excellent. If they go in and it littered with things that might have made it a 4, 3, or 2 star arc and yet it was rated a 5 (or a 1), this might make the "reader" suspect of the whole system. And thus, in combination with the horrid search system, might drive folks AWAY from the AE system.
My thoughts on this... a player should be able to tell after either contact of first mission if it's worth their time to continue on. And if they do quit, it's not like they need to travel across Nerva to get another mission... it's less than 5 seconds away to choose another.

    Quote:
Keep in mind an arc with a lot of 5 stars may be very still NEVER be seen due to the volume of arcs in the system in general. So . . . I'm not really sure what 5 staring ever arc accomplishes other than making the authors feel good. And if it's only the author's feelings we care about then I see the entire system as a pointless endeavor.
Gotta disagree with you here. IMO community and encouragement are not a pointless endeavor. I do the "5 or nothing" in contest of the ratings system. But inspiring authors (such as myself) need feedback just as much as a rating. A 5 with no feedback on what I feel is wrong or may need re-evaluated is pointless.

Let's take a comparison to why some PvP communities fail.

Good PvPer owns an aspiring PvPer: Laughs and taunts only as feedback.
Aspiring PvPers: Gives up. PvP competition: Down

Good PvPer owns an aspiring PvPer: Tells aspiring PvPer how to improve.
Aspiring PvPers: Continue on. PvP competition: Up

Since the ratings system is the gauger on how one's best progressing in A/E, I will continue to "encourage" aspiring authors who show potential. I don't care if it's "not really one of the best" at this point. If I give them feedback and they do care and continue to improve it... the HoF status will be the true indicator.

People can deny it all they want... but we're drawn to positivity, not negativity.

    Why fire?

Yea, a "true" threat assessment would be a calculation nightmare...

In theory it would be nice... but the more I think about everything that'd need to be factored in, it'd be a huge undertaking.

Maybe at least a Primary vs Secondary matchup tho... *shrug* ... dunno
  8. Nerfarios Ghast added to the list... thanx

    Why fire?

What we really need (not just in A/E, but overall) is a Threat or Challenge rating... something to do a quick comparision between player and enemy and reward accordingly... this and so many things would go away... IMO.

    Why fire?

1 > Fire Tanks have good Fire Resist
2 > Fire Damage vs Regen is easy
3 > Fire Damage from enemies has no side effects (Slow, -To Hit, Stun, etc)
    4 > Maximum gain
  11. Looks killer! I'll second the Mr. Burns' "Excellent".
  12. I won't downrate Farms...

    I just won't rate them.

If the Devs seriously want to curb this without hurting authors, there's ways...

You know my take on this... I think.

    ?nvasion Plans

I'm hoping @Djinniman takes note of this about the customs groups on teams.

Zamuel had to straighten me out on how unbalanced mine were for teams on Black as Midnight.

Adding a new "bot-type" or two and/or Changing/Removing a few powers here or there should be doable for that arc to really shine.

I see a lot of potential in it. Story and presentation seemed great.

The problem I see here with downrating is... most likely the downvoter will not return to replay the arc to see if it has improved to their tastes.

    Case in point...
    The Fractured Dreamer by @theHedron
I picked it for the AEnvasion of Guardian for its potential...
Who has replayed it to see how much better it is?
    o.O

Why should he/she get stuck with a 3 or 4 for where it was?

Again... my message to authors in comments is usually...
"My challenge to you is this: Live up to the 5 stars"

The system ain't perfect and neither are we authors...
My thinking is we're friends here, not overbearing nuns with wooden rulers to discipline each other.

Agreed. YouTube switched from a 5-star system to a like/dislike system and I, personally feel that this sort of thing works a LOT better.
I would love a Like/Dislike option vs the 5 star system.

Actually, I feel I am using Like/Dislike in a sense...
No Vote = Dislike (it's so far off from final, it's not funny)
5 Stars = Like (even if it may still need improving)

    Is that wrong? o.O
  16. I'll agree with Zamuel that "same names" in a group might not be a good idea... unless they look different enough to distinguish the two... then it may not be so bad.
  17. And BackFire, I'll add that I agree that 2x per week could result in burnout from outsiders. But... I don't see anything wrong with having multiple days for those who can't make one or the other.

I know I don't personally like to Mothership Raid or Incarnate Trial more than 1x per week myself. And I really wish there were alternate ways of getting Fame because Tips are starting to wear thin on me too.
  18. If anything does land on Guardian... I'm gonna check with the community to see what time may be best.

    Just throwing that out there.
  19. Chiming in to give a FINAL tally of what the prizes will be:

1st: Recipe (Superior): Armageddon: Damage [50] <-- valued at @600 million
    2nd: Recipe: Respec [1] <-- valued at @200 million
3rd-26th: 25 million per winner <-- total of 600 million to give to 24 winners

The rest of my funds will be diverted to:
    Community Donations
Occassional Rewards for completing my arcs (will post updates over in Architect Forums)
    Finishing my builds

    Why?

Cuz I'm just plain freakin' crazee!

    PEACE! (and happy gaming...)
  20. Thanx HardRider! Added to the list. Good to have a Villain submission for Union now...

Just 7 more holes to fill...
  21. 4 of us villains went on a rampage doing 2 arcs in roughly 2 hours, earning nearly 30 Merits and causing much chaos in general. Thank you to Armeros, Psymate Dayton and wife for showing up and participating as I learn to get my feet wet hosting events.

    PEACE!
  22. Chiming in for a few updates...

    1) First Villain-side arc Dead by Midnight is now up and 100% evil! (3 plays so far approve) - this leads up to the arcs containing the winners here...

    2) Seems I got a Respec Recipe drop yesterday... adding it to the pool of prizes... looks to be a few Superiors extras starting to build up too. And since my builds are adequate at this time... looking like 2 Alignment Merit Recipe choices should be available to add to the pool as well...

    3) More Submissions!!! O.O
  23. I'll submit:

Black as Midnight (Arc #482914 by @SupaFreak)
  24. Looking good so far, I'll be watching to see when you stamp it ready to go (or close enough to final - seems to take a while to get it to that stage)
  25. And again, another struggle in choices... back and forth, back and forth deciding...

But... I'm pleased to say I'm "lock"ing in Liora Kate to the top 5 villains of Virtue (yea, that server again!)

I really do appreciate "personal"-type names as well... she's mysterious and well... just all around a memorable character in my opinion...

Thanx again for early submissions (gets my mind going on the possibilities) and looking forward to more.

    PEACE!
