  1. That was a concern of mine, Rangle. The quick movement doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I have a few friends who are bothered by first person quickness too.

With the limited space on my PC and the amount of details per 37 total bases... I felt this was the only way I was going to meet both ends in paying tribute to the creators and having a memorial of sorts to the contest.
  2. Quick Tech/Science video tour added above. (Page 4 - Post 76)
  3. I was going to add Forum Handle/Global Handle details if that was okay with people... once I find out who is who.

I think we had 10 entrants, but 2 didn't have any work to show.

I do apologize in advance if anyone feels I missed something in their creation, but keep in mind I'm trying to compress them all into 1 quick video tour of the categories... plus I think I've now logged 12+ hours into touring and my harddrive space is being eaten up as these sit in a folder waiting to be added to overall video.
  4. Quick Video Tours by theme:

    Magic/Arcane
    Technology/Science
    Freestyle 1 and 2
    Modern/Livable 1 and 2
Warning: Quick Video Tours recorded in 1st person and somewhat quick and jerky. Watch at your own risk.

    Notes:
Video shot during a second pass through the base and not the initial tour.
The amount of time spent per recording is based on what I felt I needed to capture.
Base # in lower left-hand corner as its tour begins.
Base order is by which fit with the music timing, and nothing else.

My apologies in advance to any designers who feel I missed an important detail in the recording, which I'm sure I did.
Thank you to the owners who joined us on Vent. It made the experience for me much more enjoyable.
Connecting Base # to respective designer in Info and Annotations may still in progress.

I will add more details in the video descriptions later.
Hope they're somewhat enjoyable to watch as I had touring.
  5. First off, want to thank participants in the Bases on a Budget as well as MP, Arky and PERC members for the time and effort you've put into this. I truly am inspired and amazed by both sides in the ability to utilize this feature of the game and create a community from it.

Hopefully this aspect of CoH will receive further attention in the future, as I had no idea how enjoyable it is for designers to be able to express themselves through base construction and design... tho, I can relate in some way with me being an aspiring A/E mission designer. You are all very creative and your skills and creativity are eons beyond mine in this aspect.

Also wanted to let any participants and/or observers know that I will be posting my quick video tour compilation for each theme on my YouTube page. I will post a link to the videos here, but if you are annoyed by grown men who make immature videos pertaining to a superhero MMO... then I recommend not deviating from the links. I get way too much maturity time in each work day running a business to come home and keep up the routine. Thanx!

*Food goes in my belly now*

What can I say, I highly recommend this arc and the author is a pretty cool cat to boot.
  7. Played "Crime is Art and Art is Crime" by Twoflower

    For Reference Reasons:
Character: Level 50 Spines/Ninjitsu Stalker (Fully IOed)
    Settings: +0/x2/Bosses Off/AVs Off

    Overall: 4.12 / Rated: 5

    Story: 4.83
    Logic: 5.00
    Details: 4.75
    Dialogue: 4.75

    Action: 4.83
    Immersion: 4.75
    Flow: 4.75
    Cast: 5.00

    Technical: 3.83
    Presentation: 4.00
Lots of white tends to make everything blend together for me.
    Maps: 5.00
    Balance: 2.50
Felt some of the customs in missions 2 & 3 were a bit overpowered for their rewards.

    Rewards: 3.00
  8. Author's Update: 11/14/11

Will no longer be editing "Black as Midnight: Team Spirit" unless the name filter bug or something strikes again. (still have 2 enemy names borked due to filter)

I am extremely happy with where it is now, due to extensive testing results:
    1) Can be followed as a story through Clues, NPC Dialogue, etc.
    2) Can be ran at any level and any AT on standard settings fairly well.
    3) Map is linear, no side-tracking or back-tracking.
    4) NPC Allies (non-required) help take alpha but not too much rewards.
    5) The amount of different encounters makes for a unique experience each time.
    6) It's very fast paced after initial room.
    7) It's not a complete cake-walk, nor is it overly challenging.
    8) I don't have to be */Fire or Melee at x8, just Incarnate.
    9) It takes 15 minutes or less, depending on build.
    10) That equals a slight challenge, with mucho rewards and a story. Mission accomplished.

And so now I can move on to writing and designing the next one... and playing arcs by others in the mix of the everyday fun in CoH.
  9. Oh snap! Backfire couldn't make it this week and needs someone to pretend to be as good as him at posting the shenanigans of the AE Storyteam. Do you accept the challenge before you $name?
(Mission Accept) Put on "poser" britches!

Alright... Players' Choice Æwards! was the theme for the week and here's a summary of what transpired:

#470181 "Tutorial Arc 3: Dark Harvest"
    5 missions/Heroic by @Khonshu

    #474611 "Cole in your Stocking"
    5 missions/Vigilante by @Venture

We decided to try out the lowbie arcs since a majority of us were on with lowbies. Hey, 2+2 really does equal 4... just like Barney teaches us!
Dark Harvest Looking for a fresh spin on manipulation of Kheldians? You got it right here, pal. It was a "keep you on your toes" arc with a solid mix of patrols with static enemies! BEST ACTION!!

Stocking The Resistance are looking to rob us of Christmas in Praetoria? I got my poser britches on already... so seems this calls for donning my vigilante boots too. BEST OVERALL

Next week: 11/20/11 theme was not discussed and Backfire had no server on the list. So, Where Ære We Now? We'll post the server when we decide, and as usual... all levels and ATs are welcome
  10. Updated with 1st. Son's additions and my first arc's modifications.
  11. Azure, you do a great job as always and I'm always happy when I get a chance to participate on your runs. You'll probably never recognize a character of mine because of my altitis and it takes quite a while to cycle around to one again. :P

    Keep up the great job!
  12. Thank you Guardianites that participated and congratz to Song Cricket and Maggie Mae. Hope to see you two on December 3rd on Test (as long as Character Copy tool is good).
  13. First Son, I very much enjoyed hanging with you and giving my input/feedback. You've put a great deal of care into catering to both crowds here, which isn't easy to do.

Yes, the lore in CoH is deep and strong for those that do take the time to dig into the canon... but then again... this is a fast-paced MMO that tends to lean towards team-play.

I feel it's important to try and make sure you get the jist of your story across while keeping the action moving at a good pace... and keep it interesting. Filling a map with 1 unique encounter/objective is sooo 2004 and I feel "A Favor for Liberty" is very much with the times.

It's a memorable arc and you should be proud of it.

And I am honored to have experienced it with you.

    PEACE!

(note: I'm gonna get around to updating Tips & Tributes list with the arc this week)
  14. No Epic AT or low-customized AT should feel intimidated into not entering. We have seen quite a few of these ATs chosen into the final 8. As MP said earlier, putting on a performance and displaying your concept to the best of your ability is what's being looked for at that point, since strength of bios and in-depth background is for the Finals.

    Good luck to all participants!
  15. Don't forget, Guardian is this Sunday at 8 EST! Good luck to those participating!
  16. SupaFreak

Knew the name, but never teamed or met. Far too young. Rest in peace, Muad_Dib.

First Round of Server Wide Competition

    Contest Basics:
    • Any Hero, Villain, or Praetorian may enter.
    • Only one entry per account per server is allowed. You may compete on multiple servers (if you are not chosen as a server winner).
    • Characters must be at least level twelve (12) to participate.
    • Once judging has started, no late entries will be accepted.
    • No member of P.E.R.C. may enter (since P.E.R.C. Representatives will be judging).
    • Male and Female characters will compete separately. Huge body types will considered male.

    Costume Rules:
    • Customized Weapons are allowed. This includes shields, blades, guns, etc. Players are asked to only draw weapons however and not utilize power animations.
    • Powers Usage is limited. We understand that there are a variety of power customization options, however powers can affect other players unintentionally and can also diffuse attention away from other character components. Players should limit their use of powers and utilize them for Aura purposes. Examples include, but are not limited to Fire Shield, Rock Armor, Personal Force Field, and Invincibility.
    • Be very careful in your power choices and avoid overusing multiple powers. Powers should not hide your costume.
    • Powers that affect other players or have a large radius may result in disqualification from the event. Examples include, but are not limited to Steamy Mist, Lightning Field, Hot feet, and Shadowfall.
    • Please contact a P.E.R.C. Representative if you have any questions about a specific power.
    Judging Rules:
    • A panel of P.E.R.C. Representatives from other servers will be compiled to judge this event.
    • Players are urged to utilize costume choices, weapons customizations, emotes, and auras in building their concept for display.
    • Judging for the contest will be scored based on concept, costume, and creativity.
    • Judges will pick a total of 16 contestants (8 Male / 8 Female) at the end of the Server Judging Round to move on to the Semi-Finals Round
Second Round of Server Wide Competition

    Semi-Finals:
    • Semi-Finals will take place in the Pocket D Arena.
    • Each Semi-Finalist group will be taken into the Arena separately. Males first, followed by females.
    • A P.E.R.C. Rep will start the Arena Event and set up the teams so that it is Judges vs. Semi-Finalists.
    • Each contestant will have 1 minute to show off their powers! Temporary powers will not be considered, only how well customized powers work with the overall concept. We are looking for you to put on a show!
    • A "dummy" or "test subject" will be announced for the person to target.
    • During this round it is IMPORTANT to listen to all P.E.R.C. Representatives for any additional rules & details.
    • Anybody who griefs and / or kills another contestant inside the Arena will be disqualified.
    • All attendees, who do not make it to the Semi-Finalists, are invited to observe the Semi-Finals event once it starts.
    Final Round of Competition (Overall)

    Finals:
    • The finals will be based both on concept / costume design (same rules as above) and additionally, contestants will be asked to tell the judges about their character concept.
    • The finals will occur on the Test server, players must be present to win.
    • Costume scores will be formulated the same way as they were in the individual server contest rounds.
    • Power customization and showmanship will be factored in as well.
The Player Event Resource Committee would like to thank Paragon Studios and the Community Team for their support and generosity. If you have any questions for this contest, please feel free to contact Madame Pistacio or Arkyaeon via private message or send an email to PERC.COH@gmail.com.
  18. Played "Cracking Skulls" by Flame Kitten

    For Reference Reasons:
    Character: Level 50 Ice/Energy Blaster
    Settings: +0/x3/Bosses Off/AVs Off

    Overall: 4.38 / Rated: 5

    Story: 4.83
    Logic: 5.00
    Details: 4.75
    Dialogue: 4.75

    Action: 4.75
    Immersion: 4.75
A good mix of unique encounters to keep me interested.
    Flow: 4.50
    Cast: 5.00

    Technical: 4.41
    Presentation: 4.00
While most formats were great, not sold that Nav was used to best of its ability.
    Maps: 4.25
Not sold on mission 1s map being the best for that mission.
    Balance: 5.00
Can't go too wrong when using Standard critters for the majority of missions. Customs were in-line and blended in with the standards so well, I had to do a double take.

    Rewards: 3.50
  19. With Bosses being Lieutenants unless the player has Bosses on... I don't see how adding a few unique Boss encounters would be overpowering, personally.

Anyhoo... I hesitated joining up on this because most of you are "Dev's Choice" writers and I really don't have any right being here because I won't ever have that status... but I felt it couldn't hurt hearing feedback from an action junkie such (yes, I still read all the text) and I could stand to have a few writer's tips/story pointers myself.
  20. Played "To Dream of Nothing" by Zaphir

    For Reference Reasons:
    Character: Level 50(+1) Illusion/Empathy Controller
    Settings: +0/x6/Bosses Off/AVs Off

    Overall: 3.75 / Rated: 5

    Story: 3.83
    Logic: 4.75
    Solid basis, no inconsistencies found.
    Details: 4.25
There's pleny of details throughout and at times I found myself needing to re-read.
    Dialogue: 2.50
While the dialogue wasn't bad at all, the sheer amount during a few encounters requires a seperate NPC Chat tab to make sure you don't miss anything.

    Action: 3.75
    Immersion: 3.00
Aside from the required bosses and allies, there was little going on NPC-wise in the missions.
    Flow: 3.75
Due to the white optional objectives mixing with white required and some chained objectives, found myself stopping a bit to figure out what to do next.
    Cast: 4.50
The customs were pretty well done. Male ally most memorable.

    Technical: 4.16
    Presentation: 3.00
While I felt there was good use of paragraph breaks and italicizing(?), there was a bit too much white for me everywhere.
    Maps: 4.50
    Balance: 5.00
Can't go too wrong when using Standard critters for the majority of missions. Customs were in-line.

    Rewards: 3.25
  21. Adding...

#482914 "Black as Midnight: Team Spirit" (33 plays)

*Overhauled from a long 5-mission (22-27) Intro arc into a short 1-mission (50+) Intro arc designed for Incarnate (solo) or Team play.

*The encounters are set to Medium or Hard (barring 2 Ambushes) and there's Allies to help out.

*Mix of Custom & Standard enemies.

*Tested with 12+ level 50 Incarnates on x8 and 3 pre-32s on standard settings, so I know it's still doable.

    What I'd like feedback on:
    1) Is there enough here to entice you to try the short upcoming missions when I get them finished or is more info needed?

    2) Is the action fun?

I'll get to playing 2 arcs this week...
  22. The Player Event Resource Committee would like to thank all of the players who submitted an entry to compete in Design Challenge - Bases on a Budget! We were extremely pleased to receive 42 entries. Rather than eliminating two players, we felt it best to extend two of the categories to eleven for maximum competition. It was extremely enjoyable to read the short essays on why people wanted to enter and view the gorgeous base screen shots that many players submitted. There are many passionate Base Builders and it will be amazing to see what can be done on a small budget!
Contestants were asked to rank their preference of category they would like to compete it, PERC is very pleased to say that every contestant will be given their first choice to build!

  23. Hey, all I need is a good reason to use my current Server Transfer Token to transfer one to Justice...

Otherwise it'll hafta wait til I get more.
  24. Updating that this service is still available with a 3 day notice and that I now have level 50s transferred to the following servers: Exalted, Freedom, Virtue, Victory, Liberty, Union & Defiant.

    That is all.

    Thanx!
