  1. I've been tossing this idea around in my head since the introduction of Merits and the realization that non-mission holders do NOT receive Merits for participating on the missions (unless it's an Ouroborus team) combined with the decline of teaming outside of TFs/SFs.

I didn't want to come here submitting an idea until I has thought it through and did some number crunching to back it up. The following were my goals:

    1) An easy process to transition to from the current.
    2) A system that encourages teaming, but doesn't punish soloers.
    3) A system that encourages and works for all developed content.

What I'm about to suggest is tracking Merits by increment and awarding a whole sum to a character when missions or tasks are completed. Please, bear with me here...

    Merit Increments
    +0.05
Per Team Member (Task Force/Trial/Strike Force due to the increased Merit bonus upon completion)

    +0.10
    Small Map
    Per Collect Object
Per Arc Team Member (bonus awarded mission completion for those not running the current Story Arc)
Per Team Member (not on Story Arc/TF/Trial/SF)

    +0.20
    Per Free Captive
    Per Free Ally
Per Defeat Boss (only Boss required)
    Per Destroy Object

    +.0.30
    Medium Map
Per Travel to Contact (note: only Arc Holder or members of TF/SF are awarded)

    +0.40
    Per Escort (Rescue/Kidnap)
Per Defeat Boss (encounter or room required)
    Per Defend Object

    +1.00
    Large Map
    Defeat All

    +?.??
Completion of Task Force / Strike Force (all team members)
Completion of Story Arc (player holding arc)

Yes, I am suggesting that Merits be awarded for non-Arc, non-TF/SF things such as Newspaper/Radio missions. It's all Dev-content and saving or robbing a bank should award me some Merits, just not bonus Merits.

No, I don't think the players should see the increments (unless you want to put it on Combat Attributes under Base attributes. The way I see it would work is the game would "store" excesses of whole numbers after checking to award you Merits. Example key:
Yellow = What YOU the player see
Green = What the game tracks
    White = General Information

    Your Salvage Inventory: Merits: 41.65

You join someone's arc as the fifth person.
Mission details: Med Map 0.30/Defeat Boss (encounter) 0.40/4 other team-mates 0.20
    Mission Complete!
    +0.90 (from mission) + 0.65 (from previous) = 1.55 to be awarded
    You receive 1 Reward Merit

    Your Salvage Inventory: Merits: 42.55

(In my haste, I thought my math was off... you can also just add the .90 to the original to get the same result.)

    Some results and examples:
    Positron Task Force
Team of (min) 3's 17 Mission Total: 18 Merits
Team of (max) 8's 17 Mission Total: 26.5 Merits
Positron Task Force completion bonus: 40.00 Merits
Current Reward: 66 Merits (no matter what team size)

    Team of (8) Total: 66.50 Merits (26.50+40.00)

Katie Hannon Task Force completion bonus: 3.00 Merits

    Team of (4) Total: 36.40 (11.40+25.00)
    Team of (8) Total: 37.60 (12.60+25.00)

Dreams of Peace and Acts of War via Serpent Drummer
Team of (min) 1's 9 Mission Total: 6.00 Merits

The Origin of the Snakes via Matthew Burke
Team of (min) 1's 3 Mission Total: 3.80 Merits
Team of (max) 8's Bonus Total: +2.10 Merits (.7 per Other Member x 3 Door Missions)
Mission Holder's Story Arc completion bonus:
Current Reward: 6 Merits (Mission Holder only)
    Mission Holder's Suggested Total: 5.80 Merits (3.80+2.00)
    8 Participant's Suggested Total: 5.90 Merits (3.80+2.10)

Current Bank Mission (level 50) Example
Side Mission Merits Awarded upon Exit (per player):
    SAFEGUARDS
Stop the Robbery: (Defeat Boss encounter) 0.40 Merits +0.10 per Other player

Stop the Breakout: (Defeat Boss encounter) +0.40 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Stop Sewer Bombing: (4 Collections) +0.40 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Stop Weapons Deal: (1 Collection) +0.10 Merits +0.10 per Other player
TOTAL SOLO: 1.90 Merits vs TOTAL TEAM of 8: 6.40 Merits

    MAYHEMS
Rob the Bank: (Collection/Defeat Boss Encounter) 0.50 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Rob Jewelry Store: (Destroy Object/2 Collections) +0.40 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Torch the Building: (4 Collections) +0.40 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Kidnapping: (1 Escort) +0.40 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Break Out a Villain: (1 Destroy Object) +0.20 Merits +0.10 per Other player
Raid Weapons Deal: (1 Collection) +0.10 Merits +0.10 per Other player
TOTAL SOLO: 2.00 Merits vs TOTAL TEAM of 8: 6.50 Merits

    Notes:
1)This is assuming Mission Archictect is a similar tool to those the development team use and the details can be easily tracked.
2)If unique maps don't have a size, simply add a hidden value of small/med/large to those maps.
3)Defeat X mobs: is a situation that could be a problem. Perhaps +0.01 for each enemy defeated on these missions by team members. So "Defeat 10 Tsoo" would = +0.10 (only enemies that award XP provide the +0.01).
4)Outside of a TF/SF/Trial, you will have to be eligible for mission XP to receive the Merits.
5)The bonus XP at the end of an Arc should make up for the difference for Arc holders if their value ends up slightly under Merit total of 8 man team.

I dunno, wanted to get the idea outta my head and onto text tho. Got things to do today. Smell ya laterz & peace out!

A lack of the CoP isn't going to sway someone outside the game who's never heard of it.
I do beg to differ on that. If they advertise a new/improved Cathedral of Pain correctly with a fun system, I would put money on new & former players coming to check it out. If it's repeatedly fun and a strong system, they'll stick around and occassionally check out bits and pieces of the rest of the game.

Not in CoH, but in UO and WoW... I PvPed quite a bit. Maybe "casually" - "moderately". I dabbled in it here at "City of Heroes", but it's so pointless and unfun for me. I do have an urge to break from TFs/SFs, etc once in a while and either beat down or get beat down by others.

If a "Cathedral of Pain" system were on par with the fun factor of ITF, LGTF, etc... it could be a draw to the PvPers who've yet played or formerly played. Subscribers = $ as ya know. Same with Zone & Arena PvP.

PvP if handled correctly can form a strong community and be a very attractive feature, even if there's no "carrots" to make some players participate in on it.

I would hope PvPers would just expect a great system in which to PvP with very less effort put into the development of content for it over the PvE aspect. If the game is largely in part focused on story, PvPers would have to understandably (since they bypass creativity of the story writers) go in knowing that. Unless, there was a system of story-telling to that PvP system.

UO, the first (debatable) MMO is still going (debatable) strong enough with outdated graphics after 12+ years. Their community is approx 70% PvE, 30% PvP from my last experience there. That PvP community is strong, because their system is fun. Heck, it's probably one of the three best MMO PvP systems out there based on feedback I read on forums.

I would love it if City of Heroes could be mentioned that high in that system. I would love it if people say, yea... I play CoH/V cuz it has a fun and balanced PvE system with great stories and teaming, and man... the PvP there is off the hook!

I'm not stupid, I'm sure as a successful company that Paragon Studios would love the same reputation.

I'm hoping that this and other lacking systems in "City of" are about to get their much needed boosts. Just waiting for the word...

    Quote:
A presence, I concede, would have the opposite affect.
Then, I suggest have the CoP/PvP system and PvE system aid, but not rely on, each other through small perks by participating in both maybe.

I don't know. I'd hafta really, really, really analyze the other systems out there as to what is successful and what is not. It's a different animal of sorts with CoX sorta. UO & WoW from experience could be unbalanced due to gear or lack thereof for the casual to jump in and have fun.

Maybe CoX is onto something with the "diminishing rewards on sets" as a solid foundation for something forthcoming, maybe not.

In my opinion, we should be able to progress XP-wise in PvP though. Less than the AE XP though, since we do indeed want to encourage participation on "developed content" primarily. (no sarcasm)

Okay, I'm done venting. I'm just gonna go back to reading posts again when I'm here for a while until something really irks me again or gets me pumped.

    You guys rock, peace out!

    Outsider's who don't play...
Check again (my edit was to fix mispelling of Imperious) but I never said "...never played it before..." I was referring to both former and never played.

For the record, I really feel Going Rogue is going to be awesome / over-the-top and bring people in... it's just these Issues lately are lacking on the "Content" aspect for us veteran players (again, that's my opinion, not fact).

There's little to interest me in PvP, AE or soloing my arcs alone (I prefer to team in an MMO)... so (yes, I know the fault is my own) the only worthwhile thing for me to do as of late is repeat TFs/SFs for Merits (again, prefer to team... and I desire Merits for character progression). So, I question myself as how can "I" convince anyone outside the game (I have 9 friends unsubscribed) to try it out again? They're way too casual for TFs/SFs.

What do I say? Ummm, come play the MMO to solo arcs because you'll want Merits if you don't TF/SF. You don't get Merits for partaking of someone else's arcs. Ummm, PvP is dead, there's no point to it and little reward for it. Oh, careful playing AE... just do Dev Choice or HoF cuz you'll get screwed out of rewards if you play someone's creative and awesome arc cuz farmers exploited the system and they were able to nerf that real, real quick... but in 5 months, they can't aid the ones who use the system correctly to tell stories. Oh, but look at what we got coming in April for you so you have something to look forward to for content.... oh wait... nevermind.
  4. Quote:
So your only suggestion is that the devs evaluate something that they're already aware of? Voila! I didn't think you'd be so easy to please.
*sigh* No, I'm not making any suggestions here... it's not a suggestions thread. And that's not the only phase I said they need to evaluate. PvP, Base Raids, Mission Arc Merits for non-arc holders, enhancing team dynamics to make it more desirable to team, etc. etc.

My complaint is about a vague I17 listing of features. In my opinion Content is what will help bring in and retain subscribers, not badges, emotes, graphics & UI. I'm not saying those phases are meaningless at all, if that's about to be assumed.

If I were to step outside the notion of being a current subscriber, what do I see appealing to me? New missions (content). Okay. Missions could be 2, it could be 20. They could take 5 minutes to absorb, they could take 5 hours to absorb.

They made it clear I'll be able to purchase "4" new stances and even named the costume sets I could purchase. Both which will give me about 2 seconds of content.

Look! I'm standing different! Look! I look different!

Again, clarifying due to my sarcasm. I'm for introducing new things like stances and costume sets. I'm not seeing emphasis on Content.

Please, please, please forgive me if I don't get excited about being able to stand there doing a new Emote after I got a new Badge while you look at me in Ultra Mode. That's not why I pay $ per month to play City of Heroes. I can get that same feeling from Sims. I pay to experience stories, content and team with others in a "super" setting.

I thought as a paying customer for 5+ years, I'd have the right to express my dissatisfaction with the I17 list and not be assaulted for it by what I considered a great community. Am I wrong?

Feel free to look back at ANY of my history of posts, I NEVER attack someone for complaints or the like unless I'm attacked first. If you don't like my dissatisfaction, ignore me and move on to reading the next post. I do. I don't think it's cool to impose on someone's opinion in an attempt to try and sway them to mine or belittle them because it doesn't fit my opinion.

All I'm asking for is for some hint of "content" other than "New Missions". Here's recent "Content" provided by the game:
Issue 10: Invasion (yes, still love the improvements to RWZ) - We got a great Co-Op TF, a pretty cool Raid feature, repeatable RWZ Missions, Vanguard Merits, roughly 4 arcs with 20 missions.
Issue 11: Stitch in Time - 4 new missions per side, and 3 minor TF/SFs that are soloable.
Issue 12: Midnight Hour - Both sides got an arc with 4 door missions to join the Midnighters (not counting the go to contacts or craft Wand/ cure Lost), repeatable Cimerora missions, and the still-popular Imperious Task Force.
Issue 13: Power & Resp. - Heroes got 3 arcs/11 door missions & Villains got 1 arc/2 door missions from Mercedes Sheldon (Midnighter's) and Heroes got 2 arcs/6 missions from Daedalus, Villains got 1 arc/9 missions from Sister Airlia.
    Issue 14: Architect - none
Issue 15: Anniversary - Dr. Kahn TF (5 missions) / Barracuda SF (5 missions)
Issue 16: Power Spectrum - none

Yes, we've gotten a slew of cool game features in the mix of all this... but as players... seriously... when we talk about this game to outsiders who don't play... out of that list... how much is something to brag about to make outsiders want to join our game?

I almost guarantee that ITF is on top of the list, followed by LGTF or something RWZ-related. I doubt there's much else on that list to write home about, correct? Yes, the other content is great to experience and it's not subpar by any means... but they're not "Hooks" to draw outsiders in (at least I don't hear them desired to be repeated on channels).

So... when someone says the last thing we need is more Co-Op, I look and see that "content" being the most popular experience as of late. No, I don't want Villains doing TFs or Hero content or vice versa... but I do feel 2 Co-Op is not OMG2much!

It's the community/interaction with others that will drive this game and keep it above the competition. Dispute it or not, it's lacking as of late. If "New Missions" is on par with Issue 13, we're looking at another issue of self-absorbed soloing for badges, hanging around AP doing emotes, and all the while being able to do it in Ultra Mode with some UI updates...

Oh, and one more thing. Epic Power Pools at 20 now?
  5. I'm pretty much with ya Gorbaz.

If the target audience for that Issue 17 listing of features was recent subscribers and the players who purchase all the boosters with every character as a ninja now... yea, that's a successful list.

If the target audience for that Issue 17 listing of features was for subscribers who have ran a majority of content or potential new subscribers... nah, I think it's a fail.

Gotta head out to work... Peace Out!
  6. And harking back to what I said about "eye candy"...

Whether the comments on the bottom of these are legit non-players or not, I think that sums up what I mean. I know Ultra Mode is a very nice improvement, but it's not enough alone to draw in new subscribers (again, in my opinion). I was kinda saddened to see early outside comments such as these...

While I'm sure GR is pretty much finalized, I'm equally sure that the Devs are open to suggestions. I'm curious as to see what manner of well-conceived and thought ideas you have to present. I mean, we're all here because we love the game, too--we're sure to love your ideas. So, let's hear them.
My ideas are either equal to or subpar to those I see on the Suggestions thread. I've been sending in /bug "Suggestion" stuff on a regular basis here lately because I don't want to clutter the boards with my opinions.

If I was full of good ideas for video games I wouldn't be doing construction for a living, now would I? o.O

I do imagine it's very hard to come up with ways to meet the intended goals sometimes without it being easily exploited or quickly tiresome.

I feel I've said my peace about what phases I'd like to see enhanced in earlier posts without repeating them, but I just rechecked and it's been since Sept. 15th, 2009 (5 months approx) since the unfavorable quick fix to custom power selections and custom groups has been in. That's one thing that's bugging me, and was about to drop $40 for additional MA slots until that went in...
  8. Quote:
Considering that "the competition" is all about eye-candy rather than content or substance, I'd say this is an excellent way of "leveling the field" in those areas and taking away their perceived advantages over this "old" game.
Not saying Ultra Mode is a bad thing at all. Eye-candy is nice, I agree and it does help to compete with the other MMOs. As a whole though, the list is not something I drooled over because of the vague "New Missions" which could be a total of 8 for all I know.
  9. I'm mainly ticked at the lack of anything worthwhile (to me) mentioned in Issue 17's preview list.

I'm not attracted to "shineys", I want content and all systems to be desirable options. Arcs, TF/SFs, AE, PvP, etc.

Honestly, I could care less about EATs available at 20.

Team-play in this game has gone down bigtime (from what I see) over the past few issues. I'm 100% fine with the option to solo, trust me. But this *MMO* is become less multi-player (again, in my opinion) and that's what's really got me irked.

I see nothing mentioned on that list to help this game's longevity. I was hoping (yea, poor me) to see something that would make the competition wipe the sweat from their brow. New badges? New emotes? New visuals? Eye-candy. Need substance!

What's that quote about the supermodel? "Somewhere in the world some guy is sick of her $#!*."
  10. Quote:
More Co-op? No thanks. What we have atm is more than enough.
Ah, I see that your opinion or definition is all that matters. Gotcha.

If you mean 'go to Atlas' in a PvP sense; No. Just no.
Wow, you do read waaaay too much into things. There was ZERO mention of PvP anywhere in that.

    Quote:
More Villains?> Miss Lib would simply get off her pedestal at lvl 53 and kick the daylights out of people. And then the rest of the Phalanx could show up.
Yea, they're doing a top-notch job keeping the level 1 Hellions at bay. So much, that new players are crying there's no enemies to defeat.

And they did a fantastic job keeping my Soldier out of IP yesterday while doing his Patron Arc.

Oh, but to *really* travel to IP to do that arc would somehow get me killed by Statesman or Sister Psyche, right? Gotcha. But if I do it through a story and just jump in a submarine and pretend I went to IP, I somehow bypass Statesman & Sister Psyche's power.

Well damn, heroes are dumb just like Dark Helmet says.
  11. Quote:
Does it cheapen it? Only if you're that narrow minded.
I don't see where that was called for. If something used to cost $50 and now it's $20, that makes it cheaper.

I'm not going to get into some stupid Socrates evaluation of the word "Cheapen" vs "Epic". By definition, it's been cheapened.
  12. Popping in to give my feedback on Issue 17 announcement.

    Quote:
    • New badges, new missions and new player emotes
Badges: I stopped caring about those when Inventions were introduced unless they gave me an Accolade power that boosted stats or performed some sort of combat use.

Missions: Great, hopefully pertaining to upcoming content? But how many? 4-5 per side like Cimerora? That'll be absorbed in a few days.

Emotes: Wow. I'm sorry, but this should not have been at the top of the list or one of the new features primarily mentioned.

    Quote:
    • Epic Archetypes now available at level 20
Epic: Not anymore. Cheapened. I'm not going to be surprised if Superior Recipes drop at 20 now and once crafted able to be slotted at the "Epic" level of 20. Sorry, but I fail to see a reason for this move. Were there cries from the community I never heard about?

    Quote:
    • Improvements and additions to Mission Architect
MA: Vague. More maps & critters? How about making it a desirable option again. The quick fix for custom critters and custom groups (lacking a ranking) was very poorly handled. As an avid fan of AE and being super excited about it since it's announcement, I'm feeling the same cold shoulder that's been given to the avid PvP community.

If XP & Influence/Infamy is to be kept low, why not throw in a perk like improved Prestige bonus at least?

    Quote:
    • Enhancements to UI and game systems
UI: I agree that some aspects of the UI and game systems need re-evaluations and upgrades, so this is good.

    Quote:
    • And more
Hopefully CoX isn't falling into the "move onto new stuff/disregard the stuff that needs fixed" trap I've witnessed in other MMOs I've played in the past.

There are quite a few current aspects of the game that are VERY UNAPPEALING to a majority of players that have continuously been passed by. PvP rewards, Base Raids, MA rewards, the way Merits are handled for team members on another player's Story Arc, the decline of teaming outside of TFs/SFs from my perspective, undesirable zones such as Boomtown, Crey's Folly, Dark Astoria, Terra Volta, etc.

As I've been logging on lately, I find myself only caring to do TFs/SFs because it's the fastest/easiest way to get a team and the best way to get probably one of the only things worthwhile right now in Merits.

So, basically I find myself farming the same content over and over and over and over because the other systems are subpar. This is not helping me want to continue on my subscription here since Beta.

The two things I'd like to participate from time to time are AE and PvP, but as I said... they're unappealing in their current state.

Right now, it's like TFs and SFs are the Death Shaman and AE and PvP are the two minions he summons to annoy us. I defeat the Death Shaman and leave his unrewarding minions in the dust.

    Quote:
A while ago, we announced Ultra Mode...
Ultra Mode: Yea, you know... at the time, SWG and EQ2 was breath-taking to me when I played them. Lack of content and borked systems drove me away.

I love this game and have been a loyal player for over 5 years.

    Please take note...
  13. I'd personally hope any upcoming new content would include an upgrade/overhaul of Boomtown with 5th Column posing a threat on the scale of the Rikti to where it's considered a Co-Op zone spanning the 20-35 range.

Introduce a slew of new content & stories pertaining to the events transpiring there and canon for future content (vigilante/rogue).

I know it's been said that Heroes & Vilains still won't be able to access the opposing faction's zones, but I'm still voting against that. You have level 1 Hellions running around in Atlas Park, yet a level 50 villain player can't seem to get there? I'm sorry but the only one problem I ever see to allowing this to happen is griefing of those who "Street Sweep" and we all know that's highly irrelevant.

I can't help but think of the possibilities opened by allowing factions to enter the opposing zones with story arcs & task forces/strike forces. Villains get to Paragon via Black Helicopter Line Cap->Faultline (back area) and Heroes get to Rogue Isles via Longbow (rooftop) Kings->Nerva.

    Bleh, I'm envisioning too much...
  14. I just didn't want to go thru the time to get to level 6, but I ended up doing it anyhow.

Appreciate the links I missed tho and the time to reply
  17. Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not, but kinda want to know the code for the customized Sniper Attack for Energy Blast. Can't find anything on the web and it'll take a while for me level high enough to do it myself, so if anyone can help me out... I'd appreciate it.

Hopefully, someone can hook me up with the /demorecord code for this!

  19. I remember when I first saw the Evil Multipliers in AE during Issue 14, I was typing I's and L's trying to figure out that's how these 5 people pulled it off... I didn't realize this is all one person? o.O
  20. SupaFreak

    12! Wait... 13!!

Wait, wait, wait. Fiddies? How did you obtain all this XPeeez? o.O Is there some sort of "pepsi-perk" I know nothing of?
  21. *walks through Noire's PC room, trips and falls on Aion subscription*

Ooops. Back to CoH with ya!

Seriously tho, I do hope ya having fun there. You are missed here, despite you playing a game with wings and crafting and PvP and .... wait, what game you playing again?

Congratz on the weight loss thingamajig too. I'm a big believer in moving in positive directions (still a smoker here *cough, contradiction, cough*) and am happy for ya.

    Be well in your adventures!

    Oooo, a cookie....
  22. Jeez, seriously dunno how I missed that. I thought I checked all the new videos by you.

I was gonna shoot you a YouTube mail asking if I could do a reference to your Catastrophe guys down the line (if I don't get sidetracked from continuing City of rejeX too much). Like 3-4 Issues away, I believe.

It's not that I don't think anyone likes them, it's that they're not really that professional... (compared to say something like Dark_Respite's or quite a few other jaw-dropping CoX vids I've seen around)
  23. I'm just a novice, but been trying my hand at creating videos in my free time lately (which I really don't have a lot of).

Mind you, my immaturity and amateur skills are reflected in City of rejeX if ya watch it.

    Positron TF Quick Overview

    Virgil Tarikoss SF Quick Overview

City of rejeX 1 Dumb comedy

All these can also be seen on My YouTube Page if need be.

My apologies on the lame username.....
  24. Congratz again to EarthclanElite for breaking the top 10. I got too restless after the Costume Contest to hang around, but really wanted to partake in the Pocket D Arena events. Still. Congratz and thanx for hosting the event!

    PEACE!
  25. Great to hear SS! Hope to continue to hear nothing but good news on this.
