But I *am* one of those great unwashed masses.

LOL, that sounds more obscene than is allowed by the law!

Thanks for the compliments. As an artist, I'm never happy with my own stuff, but that's pretty standard affair for most artists. I feel that art is meant to be shared and enjoyed, so even if I hate all my old stuff, perhaps someone out there will enjoy it.
I also love fashion and character design, so most of my stuff has that theme in common. 'Normal' is for other people, I'm more of the 'Out There' type. -
A lot of people have been asking me about where I keep my stuff. The reality of it is that I do a lot of NSFW content, do I can't really show much of it. I dislike Deviant Art quite a lot so I won't post there. That leaves me with little options.
Until now. A friend of mine is allowing me to have space on her server with which to post my art. This allows me to post all the clean and proper art for people to enjoy. So for those that are interested, you may access my gallery of art at:

I'm flattered that you remember her insane chittering in PvP. She's got quite the mouth on her, with over 64 different semi-random phrases, 3 battle cries and 9 different magical spell incantations. Getting her to shut up is usually harder than it is to simply kill her.
While she's a FotM or even FotY, Mel was straight out of beta as Fire/Dark. I wrote a guide about it in the forums and I like to think of her as *the* Fire/Dark, not just *a* Fire/Dark. She wears her "Weapon of Mass Destruction" badge more as a warning than as a boast. If you hear the mad ramblings of a cracked little brain while things are dying by the dozens, keep an eye out for a tuft of red hair with two horns peeking out. -
While I know that my opinions aren't popular around here sometimes, I feel it has to be said.
There's way too much black in your outfits. While black is a nice shade to make your outfits with and it goes with pretty much everything, people abuse it way too much. This has nothing to do with being "heroic" or "villainous," it has nothing to do with wanting people to be brightly colored rainbows. This is from a serious artistic perspective.
The black is ruining any detail that you might be putting into your outfits. When it's all such a dark shade, everything in your outfits runs together. You can't tell where anything starts or stops in the outfits. There's many ways to get around this problem without having to sacrifice your character's look. If you simply pick a dark shade of gray, you'll still be "black" but not so much that everything becomes washed out. There will be room for shade variants and thusly room for detail again. You can also pick the darkest shade of a color, and not just black itself. This gives you a black look, with a slight hint of chroma. It sometimes appears even deeper than a straight black, while allowing for some flavor.
Because most of the details of the our outfits and costume pieces are done as a texture mapping that must work with every color, the details are drawn with the darkest black. When you make your outfits this same pitch black, you lose every texture in a messy blotch of shade. If you take a look at every "black" thing in the game, it's actually a dark shade of gray. So when light sources hit them, they actually appear to be real items with volume and substance.
Even swapping to the 2nd or 3rd darkest gray in the color pallet will do wonders for bringing back the volume and detail in your outfits. For now, they're just silhouettes in super powered shapes. -

if you ever need a colorist I'd be happy to lend a helping hand

You did a great job on the colors of the DB pic, I'm really happy with the outcome on it. While I typically draw for B/W, because that's generally what I prefer in my art, I always enjoy it when people color my works. For some odd reason I always hated coloring my own stuff, but I never had much issue coloring other people's works. *shrugs*

You're off the Christmas list. -
Nah, my only love is myself, cause I'm an ubar egotistical artist who cares only about himself. Bradders' character just happens to hit a soft spot in my love of punk/goth chicks. Then he happened to gift me with some very cool art right when I wanted it the most. The holidays were very mean to me, art wise. ;_;
-
Gah! So... much... black...
He's just a mess of ink with green eyes, the poor guy is practically a silhouette. -
It was kinda done that way purposely. Though that was only because I totally screwed up the energy effect on paper. ;_;
-
A small update. I did another pic for Bradders, so I post it in here rather than taking more space up with needless threads.
Blitzkrieg Rush! -
That's so completely cool Bradders! It means a hell of a lot when someone who's not confident in their own work puts in the effort to do art for other people as thanks. I am extremely grateful.

I give you my Japanese hero tribute, Wild Rider! I never got him to 20 to give him his appropriate red scarf trailing behind him.

So.. much... black! Agggh!
Your outfits are put together very nicely, but the lack of chroma really hurts most of them. They don't need to be bright rainbows, but even shades of grey and dull or dark colors work nicely at bringing a character to life. So much detail is lost when the outfit is just a sea of ink. -
Also this is a great site to see lots of different interpretations of your card:
http://trionfi.com/0/i/c/ALL-78/
Use the links to the left and pick the number of your card. Mine for example was the Devil, which is number 15. It'll show you tons of that particular card in various different decks. Lotsa inspiration material there. -
I officially want to be a part of this now. Sounds great. I also officially request the Devil card, in fear that we'll get a traditional big evil dark guy if I don't.
-
That idea sounds pretty interesting actually... one of the more unique projects I've heard of here.

Nobody sees the Berry next to Gnome, and below Feral and Spino?
Also, Melanie has a head start on the rest of you. She's right on the "Hopeless" one's trail, above Vampi. -
Since you asked, since the outcome might be totally hilarious in ways people don't expect and because your very first hero pic was Archmage from the Ars Technica forums (who has been clanmate of mine for ages) I'll actually bite.

Bah! No more black!
Seriously. If you tweak the colors a little bit, you can achieve a very dark color that looks like black, only has some chroma and allows you to actually see the details in things. Try very dark blues/red or a deep grey instead. It looks more natural and people will be able to appreciate the little details in your outfits. -
I already did this a while ago, but for kicks, I'll repost it since it matches with the theme prefectly.

I spot some tools of the trade in that avatar. :3

Let him have his opinion DB, everyone has one. And I am a jerk, but I'll admit that info readily and easily. The difference is that I don't care what people may think about me. Wrong is wrong and I'm not gonna sweep it under the carpet like so many others have.
The OP himself seems to simply not know what he's doing is wrong. Or he might and I'm giving him too much credit. I don't care either way.
The discussion was originally about him, but it's moved onto the masses here in the art forum. There's a lot more people around that are guilty of this beyond a single poster. A tolerance for this kind of behavior does not make it right. People might get mad for being called out on being art leeches, but that's pretty much exactly the truth. Especially when there are so many people here that go about it the right way and commission or make deals with artists legitimately. -
For some people, yes it is. It outs them and makes them look bad in front of all the people here on the boards. People that they consider to be nice as a community. It's a passive aggressive thing to do and it's not fun when you're being used as a workhorse for all the random people who enjoy having art. You know, we all want art. It's a universal love for our toons, which is why we're here in the first place.
I, on the other hand, don't care what people think of me and I'll gladly tell you no. But it's not such a cut and dry issue and very few people have as thick of a skin as I do.
Do you make a habit of going over to a random BBQ and asking if you can have a plate of ribs? Cause that's *exactly* what it's like. In fact, it's more like asking them to cook you some new ribs right there and then. It's rude.
Now if they're openly giving them away, well then sure. But that's an entirely seperate situation. That's not what I commonly see here. It's always "Wow that pic you did of ***** looks great, if you ever wanted to draw me, here's the references." Even the threads offering up their characters for any artist to draw are better because you're not directly confronting someone about it. That doesn't make them un-leechy but it's definately preferrable.
If you want art, then why don't ask nicely and then offer something in return? "If you ever wanted to draw my character..." is *not* a nice way to ask. It's a passive aggressive way to do it. "I would please like you do draw my character, I can pay for it in some fashion." is better and nicely direct. Some people can pay in talent, some people can pay in cash, some people can pay with in-game items or RPing. There's no reason for the take mentality other than greed. Just because it's become a social norm for this section, doesn't make it right. -
[jerk mode on]
Aside from all the people derailing the conversation to avoid the topic, trying to guilt someone into an art trade by telling them that you're going to draw them first is a pretty low thing to do, IMO. Bad form. Very bad form.
If you're gonna draw someone, do it from the heart and don't expect anything in return. If you want an art trade from someone, ASK them first about it and then work out a deal. This is as bad as all the people I see shoving their way in to the "OMG that's aewsome! Can j00 draw my toon too!?!?" cache. If you really want something, go about it the right way.
It's really tough to get under my skin, but this is a serious pet peeve of mine. There's a lot of good artists around here and lot of greed following them.
