  1. My friend Muju recently did a commission of one of my characters from CoX. While it was in process, I thought to myself that his talent might definitely be worth sharing here.

    Muju is open for commissions and he's told me that he'd be more than happy to render people's CoX characters if they so wished. While I cannot list his prices here, I can say they are *very* affordable. He does not yet have a full commission page up and running with price details listed.     Samples of his artwork range greatly in complexity and detail. When I asked for my commission, I told him to do anything he wished, but he can do much more traditionally simple art as well. Here's a sample of works going from simple to complex quality.

    It's a good opportunity to see a wild take on your own character, or simply to get the normal look done in a sharp style. of course art is all preference and not everyone likes this kind of heavy game and anime influenced style, but there's at least a few on the forums here that I'm sure would appreciate it.

  3. Muju can do more simple art that's easier to see, but I told him to do what he wanted with Mel. He has a natural inclination to go hog wild on the details and I myself really enjoyed that, being a fan of well crafted black and white lineart. I won't get this colored, as I think it would destroy the qualities that I like about it.

    The good news is Muju is available for commissions and you won't believe his prices. I'll make a new thread about it.

  5. Aim lasts for 10 seconds while it's up. It's a 42.5% damage boost as well as a 42.5% to-hit boost. While that's a short period of time to act in, you can get your important powers out during it. From experience, I know you can hit it, and get Blaze, Fireblast, Fireball and Firebreath out during it, all of which receives the buff. Aim also buffs the damage and accuracy of Rain of Fire as well, but I shy away from this usage because once the buff ends, RoF loses the benefit as well. It's better used for those heavy hitters in Fire.

    By the nature of Fire/Darks, we're creatures of burst damage. We lower things to the scourge point quickly, where our DoTs take over and finish the job. Most times in my fights, I neglect Aim because I'm already done with the spawn at hand. It's always up for bosses or alpha striking a large mob, but if you're coming from a blaster perspective, you may miss not having either Aim or BU available at all times.

    For protracted fights, Aim will be missing from a large portion of your fight. You'll have to learn to make it into a battle of attrition and slowly whittle the enemies down with a steady chain of damage. Your Dark powers are more important in this case.

    Just for kicks, I ran some numbers. Your damage output at base is considered 100%. With maxed damage enhancements hitting the ED cap, it rounds out at around 198%. Tar Patch is a 30% res debuff, boosting your damage done to things caught in it up to 257.4% damage. Now, if we add in Aim beforehand, your base damage is boosted to 240.5%, then if we add in Tar Patch the total comes to 312.65% damage. Since the -res debuff effectively multiplies total damage, instead of simply being additive, you get a larger benefit out of the high numbers than Aim can bring you to.

    It's that ability to self buff and debuff enemies that makes you so dangerous. The combination of both is greater than either one separately.

    The reason I slot 3 slows is because the Tar Patch and RoF combo is the center of the build. I want it to function to it's maximum potential. I do run into cases where I'm fighting +5s and I want the ability to slow the mobs the same amount as if I was fighting even cons.

    Note that Lts and Bosses naturally resist your debuffs more, so while you can slow a +4 minion with 2 slows, that +4 boss will wade through and eat you alive pretty easily. Also, there are a number of mobs in the game that have naturally higher run speeds and the extra slows help to keep them in. Slows are always optional, but since people wanted my advice, I gave it to them. Your own mileage my vary.
  7. Cept you can't change the body height after you make your char. You can only adjust the legs which gives you about a foot of play. Shame really, but tis the limitations of the game at the moment.

    Also, yay for split personalities. Mel is a split personality char, but her dominant side is pretty much always in control. The original comes out every once in a while, most notably when she's battling heroes in Siren's.
  8. Next time, I'd go into the various art threads that are abound and apply for a place in line like everyone else. These kind of threads might get a bite or two, but you're likely to distance yourself from artists here that would otherwise do art for you.

    Also, I'd go take screenshots in the tailor screen at Icon. They're much more clear and it's easier to see details of your outfits in them. Hit print screen while you're in the tailor screen and it'll copy a screenshot into your system clipboard. You can then paste that screenshot into any graphic editor.

    Those are standard drawing exercises that will help you in all aspects of drawing. I would recommend that even normal pen and paper artists practice that.

  14. I'm a San Jose native and I go to the same RPG store that some of the Cryptic guys frequent, but probably the last thing I want to do is be slave to random people's desires to have their character drawn. An art jam sounds fun, but sitting at a table doing sketches for people doesn't.
  15. The pattern on the pants in the first pic are pretty distracting, but the second outfit is made of win. I'd put my vote in for the above Hero Automaton in Tights.
  16. Changing the color of the belt details to gold will only serve to divide the outfit in half more than it already is. It seems better to keep the main trunk looking like a uniform piece and the other brighter colors towards the extremities. That's part of why the outfit looks nice in the first place, as it radiates colors outwards.
  17. I think there's a disconnect between how much of her legs are padded, and how bare her upper arms are. I always hated that about that particular costume set, since it doesn't really flow well between top and bottom.

    My suggestion is to try and increase the coverage on her arms. Easiest way to do that is to grab the Longbow style padded shoulder armor instead of the small pad you have currently. If you could only pick separate arm patterns this wouldn't be an issue. >:x

  20. I don't particularly like the blades myself, as I wanted shorter swords much like everyone else seems to have wanted. But! There's a logic to this. Look at the blades themselves and the style of the handles and hand guards.

    Ninjas have Katana. Now Pirates have Dual Blades. Ninja VS Pirate, go!

    It's half a joke, but I honestly think there was some decision on the part of the devs to make them a Pirate friendly design.

  22. Personally, I prefer .7mm mechanical pencils, though I'll use 2mm lead holders instead for when I want a varied softness of line. For sketching layouts, 4H is good, with the normal 2B being better for the darker final lines. When you want to shade in something or apply a lot of dark grit to the lines, a very soft 6B is great. I find I enjoy the .7mm thickness more than the .5mm because it tends to snap less and I wind up wasting less lead over time. It's good to have both types for changes in line thickness, if you're into line art.

    As for inking, while I never do it anymore, I've found that I prefer Sakura brand Microns for my pen of choice. They're cheap and don't run or bleed easily, as well as being quite varied in thickness available. I have 1mm down to .05mm for all my different needs. The tips are nice, being fine point ends and they stay good for a nice long time.

    This is of course all subjective. There are much nicer pens in the market, but I prefer ones that I can actually get easily and that don't cost 12 dollars each. Microns are generally available in most craft and office supply stores.

    The blue pencil that you see people use is typically a non-photo blue pencil which does not show up in photocopies or graphic art cameras. This does not hold true for a lot of scanners, however. Scanners will typically pick up the blue color anyways, making that particular usage void.

    Instead, blue pencils are used like drafting pencils, to lay down a basic structure and layout, before the final lines are locked it with a standard dark color. As the artist works, the light blue lines fade into the background when compared to the darker black lines of the final, making it handy for them to get a clear picture of what they're drawing without the muddy grays of a standard pencil layout. This technique applies to any color, really. So long as the color is a light shade, it will be easy to differentiate the layout lines and the final lines. I myself use green Colerase pencils for layouts. They show up better than blue, but are still easy on the eye. Colerase also have the benefit of being erasable to a certain extent, making it easier to correct mistakes even in the layout stage.

    A skilled graphic program user will be able to take the scan and grab only the colored portions, then erase them without damaging the final lines. This removes the need for inks entirely, leaving you with clean smooth lines in the digital file, even though the physical art would have many more lines overall. Inking has it's own merits, but it's nice to not have to use inks simply to get a clean picture.
